1 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/19/2025

I am unable to see at night because my headlights are dim but keep passing inspection, and I am afraid I am going to crash. . . I have complained to my Nissan dealership since the recall was in effect but it has expired and I continuously pass inspection but when I drive at night I have to use high beams and can not see a thing. This is my 4th attempt for help. I almost hit a deer the other night. The lights are so dim that it seems that they are not even on. . I have to turn my high beams on just to see and I was warned that I can recieve a ticket for driving with high beams on. . I went to the Nissan company and they said there was nothing they could because they didn't honor the recall on the headlight assemblies anymore and I would have to pay $1500 to replace them. I'm disabled and can not afford to do that. . What else can Nissan do I am getting ready to get rid of this and advise everyone of Nissan practices.

2 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/04/2025

The headlights on my 2018 Altima sl are incredibly dim. I have tried two different led manufacturer's bulbs with the same result. It is beyond dangerous to drive my car at night. Sadly, my floodlights are far brighter than my low beams. There are countless complaints for this issue over the past few years. It sounds like their solution was less than desirable for most customers. This should be an actual recall to ensure that the hundreds of thousands (probably more) of the 2013- 2018 Altimas on the road are safe for the drivers as well as the cars around them. This issue is ridiculous and must be corrected.

3 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

I am writing to formally escalate a serious safety issue with my 2014 Nissan Altima. My vehicle is affected by the known halogen headlamp delamination defect, which Nissan has previously acknowledged in a warranty extension and service campaign. Recently, because of the dangerously dim headlights, I struck a speed bump and damaged my vehicle. More importantly, I nearly hit pedestrians crossing the street because I could not see them in time. This is a life-threatening safety hazard directly caused by the defective headlamps. When I contacted my local Nissan dealer, they refused to honor the warranty/service campaign. I was told I would need to pay approximately $2,300 for repairs because the warranty extension expired in 2020. However, I did not begin noticing headlight visibility issues until 2022, well after the coverage period had ended. This demonstrates that the defect often develops after the expiration period and should still be addressed as a known, documented safety defect.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/10/2025

(not related to currently open hood latch recall) I’m the current owner of a 2013–2018 Nissan Altima, a model range known for a headlight delamination defect. This issue causes the reflective coating inside the headlamp to degrade, severely reducing light output. It’s a major safety risk for drivers, other motorists, and pedestrians—especially at night. A class action lawsuit acknowledged this and led to a limited repair program. However, I—like many others—only discovered the issue after that window had closed. As a second owner, I reached out to Nissan requesting a “goodwill repair,” which they define as a discretionary repair for issues outside normal coverage. Nissan declined. I was told by erica on the executive team that goodwill repairs are more likely if there’s a history of maintenance at a Nissan dealership. In other words, if the previous owner spent money at a dealership, Nissan would be more willing to repair a known factory defect. This policy is unfair. Routine maintenance should have no bearing on a company’s responsibility to fix a well-documented safety defect. That logic leaves many current owners—who had no control over previous maintenance decisions—without support. Over 1. 5 million affected Altimas are still on u. S. Roads, many now in the hands of second or third owners. These drivers may be unaware of the issue or unable to afford repairs for something that should never have occurred in the first place. I’m asking Nissan to re-open the repair program or evaluate on a case-by case basis, considering fairness and safety. This could be offered to anyone who purchased the car after the repair window. Until then, I—and many others—are left to drive with dangerously dim headlights, putting ourselves, our passengers, and the general public at unnecessary risk. This is about more than customer service. It’s about corporate responsibility and public safety.

8 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

My regular headlights are not bright and cannot see 10 feet in front of my car without my high beams on. I have had my headlights "restored" by professionals and I can still not see in front of my car with my regular running headlights. This has now been an on-going issue and I am unable to drive at night because I cannot see in front of my car and I feel very unsafe in doing so. I feel like I am at risk because I cannot see unless my high beams are on and then that puts the oncoming traffic at risk as I am blinding them. I feel like oncoming traffic cannot see my normal headlights and at a risk of getting hit. I fortunately have not had any accidents but I cannot drive at night because of this issue. I do not feel safe for myself, my family or other drivers at this point. This has been an on-going issue that seems to be getting worse as the brightness continues to deteriorate as more time goes by.

9 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/29/2025

Went and started my car and the air bag warning light on the dash came on. I am worried that the air bag won't deploy properly also when the lights are on dim they don't shine very good and the lens are cracked.

10 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/06/2025

Low beam headlights produce very little light. They do not illuminate the road, a safety hazard. Driving full time high beams is the only way to drive this car at night, a safety hazzard.

My vehicle has 55k miles, and you can not see your headlights shining out front of the vehicle at night. It looks like you only have on running lights. Please note the headlights do not have any problem with lens oxidation.

The exterior lighting is extremely dim. It is an issue driving at night. I’ve had to pull over to make sure the lights were actually on. 16 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

The headlights are very bad and have to basically drive with the high beams on in order to see because on low beam I almost ran someone over I changed the bulbs a few times but it has not improved any and while changing them that it seems as the bulb burnt something. I have been on the Nissan forums and theres many complaints saying that Nissan knows something is faulty and they refuse to recall and fix it.

18 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

Headlight brightness has diminished to levels below safe operation of vehicle in darkness. Changing bulbs, adjusting beam pattern and restoring outer shell of headlight assembly did not increase brightness. Internal reflectors, which cannot be cleaned or replaced, have lost their effectiveness over time. Driver, pedestrian and all other driver’s safety are at risk. Independent observation and multiple video streaming service videos have reported similar issues. The only recourse is assembly replacement at the expense of the consumer.

19 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

I purchased my 2015 Nissan Altima in July, 2022 with 56,530 miles on it. At this date it has approximately 71,500 miles on it. I have driven it 14,970 miles in 2. 5 years. On [xxx] I was driving home from thanksgiving in east brunswick, NJ to my home in south philadelphia on [xxx] in new jersey when my car suddenly began to have a slow down in ability to accelerate. I ended up pulling over after a moment of slowing down and not knowing what was happening. When I got to the break down lane, the car stalled. I ended up getting road side assistance to tow me to ward's automotive in mt. Laurel, NJ, where my family and I have brought cars for many years (we used to live in moorestown, NJ. Ward's ended up telling me the following Monday that my engine was "bad. " I have no idea how my engine died after only 71,500 miles on this car! I got oil changes on it every 5,000 miles. I did report to the dealership in December, 2022 that I was hearing weird noises coming from the right front side but they told me they heard nothing. What can I do??? I am still paying for this vehicle (approx. $3,100 left on loan). I did not purchase an extended warranty when I bought it used. I have learned my lesson, but I need help understanding what rights I have. I don't know if there is any manufacturer's warranty on the car. Please help me! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

20 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/16/2024

Nissan issued a notification of a safety issue with dimming headlights caused my a manufacturing issue. It's not a recall, however an extension was provided to address the concern. The problem is the letter is not clear when that extension starts, it indicates it's began January 2022 and is covered for an additional 3 years, however per Nissan the start date was the end of the manufactures warranty. I have a vehicle driven by my son that has dim headlights. This is a safety defect, created by the manufactures flaw, and should be covered by Nissan. Both headlights would need to be replaced and they should be held accountable for their safety issue.

21 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

The headlights are very dim and it's very hard to see when it's dark outside.

22 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/08/2024

Delamination of headlight units has left low beam use unsafe. Seeing more than 20-25ft ahead of vehicle is impossible at night. There was a class action suit for this issue but I was not notified and now the window for replacement had passed. This seems like it should have been a safety recall. I attempted to get relief from Nissan but was stonewalled. Not even a discount on replacing the units.

23 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/03/2024

Headlights staying dim to the point of not being able to see after dark even after replacing the headlights.

24 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/26/2024

The low beam lights on the vehicle are almost non-existent. You have to use high beams for visibility which of course comes with the risk of blinding other drivers. I’ve replaced the headlight housing and still the lighting is poor. I don’t understand why these vehicles weren’t part of a recall after the class action lawsuit showed the lighting to be faulty. This is a serious safety hazard.

25 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle at night the low beam head light illumination was extreme dem creating a visibility hazard for the driver. After replaced the light bulbs the failure was not remedied. The cause of the failure was yet not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not eligible for the manufacturer's extended coverage for the failure. The failure mileage was 165,000.

26 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/14/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph, the interior dome light assembly detached from the ceiling of the vehicle and fell striking the head of the driver. No injury was reported. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the interior dome light assembly clip had failed, and the entire assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 42,000.

27 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/08/2024

The lights are positioned too low to the ground and they are not bright enough. I end up having to keep my high lights on when driving at night because the visibility is very poor otherwise. Dangerous.

28 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/24/2024

I am concerned about the safety of my headlights. I haven't had my car long but noticed how dim the headlights were in comparison to my other car. I frequently would drive my old car with the fog lights illuminated due to wildlife concerns. My Nissan, though ten years newer, has lighting that is way worse. Sure enough, an animal ran out across my part that I could barely see. I looked into replacement bulbs when I stumbled across a class-action lawsuit regarding dim headlights. However, since I recently bought this car used, I apparently have no recourse. This is most definitely a safety issue. Furthermore, if the issue is due to the projector lens, then the repair should be made at Nissan's expense. Additionally, several people say that changing the bulbs do not help. I haven't had my car looked at by anyone because they just want to change the bulbs. How do you fix headlights when charging the bulb isn't the fix? how am I going to be able to see at nighttime? there needs to be a recall for these lights. It is a safety issue. It cannot be fixed by a consumer by changing the bulbs.

29 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/23/2024

The low beam headlights are very dim. I’ve replaced headlight bulbs and tried even clearing headlight lens and still not good visibility.

30 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/23/2024

The headlights on my 2013 Nissan Altima sl are dangerously dim. The car was purchased used in July, 2022 and has been driven daily by my son since then. While driving with him recently on his way home college I was driving and could barely tell that the headlights were on while driving at night through the un-lit interstate in virginia. The extremely low light level was alarming to me as I could not see well without using the high beams which was not always possible due to surrounding traffic, and I was constantly nervous that the others on the road may not be able to see my vehicle. Nissan is fully aware that there is an issue. In response to a class action lawsuit in 2022 they agreed to replace the headlight assemblies for those that filed a claim within a certain timeframe. The lawsuit pointed to a delaminating of the reflective materials inside the headlight assembly, so replacing the bulbs does not significantly raise the lighting output. Unfortunately the deadline for a free replacement expired prior to me purchasing the car. I contacted a local Nissan dealer on may 23, 2024 and they indicated that the free replacement has long since expired and estimated that it would cost approximately $1,500 to replace the headlights. I then contacted Nissan corporate on the same date and received the same response. I honestly do not understand how this did not become a safety recall. The lights obviously do not produce adequate light levels to safely drive at night. This is worsened by the prevalence of ultra-brite hid halogen and led headlights on the majority of cars on the road today. Though Nissan “did not accept” liability in response to the class action lawsuit in 2022, Nissan did replace thousands of sets of headlights- admitting that they know the oem headlights are an issue.

31 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/14/2024

I purchased my 2022 Altima in June 2022. I didn’t encounter any problems until 5/2024. My horn stopped working for no apparent reason, the interior fuse that controls the light inside my car keeps blowing out every few months. My manufacturer warranty has expired. This is a hazard. Due to these issue I am not able to get an inspection sticker and not able to use my horn. Can someone call me to help assist!!!.

32 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/10/2024

I wasn't aware of the recall on my 2015 Nissan Altima headlights. The headlights on my vehicle are so dim, I am unable to drive at night. I was told the recall has expired for this function, which I never received any notification of the recall. This is very disturbing to know that a recall expires and I do consider this a safety hazard due to not being able to see while driving at night. Can someone please assist me with this recall. I would really appreciate any help due to the fact, it's very expensive to replace a recall item to my vehicle.

33 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/08/2024

I bought a used 2014 Nissan Altima. The dim lights do not work properly and is dangerous to myself, my familiy and to other drivers approaching me. Visibility is about a cars length, if that. The dealership I bought the car from did not disclose that there had been a lawsuit against Nissan for this issue. Someone needs to issue a recall on all these models with defective headlights before someone is seriously injured and I would be surprised to find that there hasn't already been. Im making payments on a car I cannot drive at night. Please someone help!!!!!!.

34 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

I understand there was a voluntary recall and a lawsuit regarding the headlight system on Altimas between 2011-2018. I also understand we were supposed to have received a notification which we never received. We own 3 Altimas that fall into this grouping and never received notification on any of them. The 2015 Altima's lighting is pretty much non-existent. You cannot see at night and it's dangerous. Took it to carson Nissan and although they were very nice, we were advised that we were too late and there is nothing they can do. It would be very expensive if we fixed at our expense.

35 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/30/2024

Nissan never informed me of the head light recall in 2022 and as a result I've been driving on dim lights which is quite dangerous. This week I took it into a Nissan dealership in anderson, SC to get them repaired and it cost $1500! they informed me it should have been covered under the recall but that it's expired. This is unacceptable. Nissan is responsible to inform it's car owners of all recalls and the fact that they didn't should not enable them to get away with making people pay for these recall repairs.
