I purchased a brand new 2003 Nissan. The first time I heard about a recall issue with the 2003 Altima, I took it back to the dealership and they told me there was nothing wrong. The car will sporadically not start. I have had to replace the tires early on, the plugs were also replaced because it was misfiring, the brakes were squeaky at about 20,000 miles, the ac and the heater did not work (at about 30,000 miles and we had to replace them), water sloshing sounds, and had to replace the rooter. At about 55,000 miles the car started stopping sporadically. I took it to the dealership and they claimed they had fixed it. On my daughter's birthday, (3 months later) the car stalled on us on the road and she missed her own 3rd birthday party. I took it back to the dealership and they said it was the battery (less than 3 years from the time it was replaced). 2 weeks before christmas, I was on the road with my 11 month old infant, making a left turn at a busy intersection and the car just stopped!!! the driver behind me was just inches away from rear-ending me with my infant in the back seat facing back. I called Nissan headquarter and told them what happened. I explained to them that I fear for the safety of my 2 young children and myself in the car. I explained to them that we drive on one of the busiest freeway in the country (CA ? 405). My children's lives are in danger each time I drive them in this car. I requested a replacement car from Nissan and was told that they could not do that. This vehicle is my main means of transportation. I am very frightened about driving this car. I fear being killed with my children in this car; this car is a death trap just waiting to happen. Why has Nissan refused to take responsibility and do something to prevent someone from being killed in their poorly built-malfunctioning vehicle?.

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 2. 5 s I have had for less than 2 years. About 6 months ago at around 80k miles my engine started to randomly overheat even though coolant and fluid levels were correct. I had to tow it to a mechanic and he said the radiator was split. I spent $500 t replace that but then shortly after it happened again. We then replaced both thermostats on the vehicle and this helped for 2 months. Most recently we have been encountering a severe stuttering and shaking of the whole vehicle immediately upon starting it up. Regardless of it being in neutral, drive or reverse the car jerks back and forth very violently. After you drive it for a few minutes and the vehicle warms up it ceases this action. In addition to this though there is never any warm air coming out of the vents no matter how long the car is driven for. This is all happening simultaneously in addition to now the car is overheating all the way up but then jumps around so we never know where the temperature is at. Nissan themselves is very uncooperative in any capacity when attempting to rectify this situation. This is very disheartening as me and my wife are both working full time students and cannot afford to continue to chase this with time or money. My wife is a nanny part time and has had the car stop and need to be towed while she is out in the middle of the city with her 2 toddlers she watches. I am doing my best to avoid missing work as a result of having only one vehicle. We have a 2004 Volvo that has had no problems but this Altima is going to drag us down.

: the contact stated the vehicle would not start for two days. The check engine light was illuminated prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who was not able to duplicate the problem. Also the heater defroster was not working.
A few problems here. I bought this vehicle brand new. From the second I took it off the lot the heat did not work. I bought this vehicle in November, do you think I was happy? so they fixed this problem on a brand new car. Then last year in 2004 my car decided it would not start at all. Turns out it was the starter that went and that had to be replaced on a vehicle that was only a year old. So because of this I had to have my car towed from my driveway to the dealership. Then the latch broke off on the center console inside the vehicle. I am not rough using it at all. Its normal use for this latch yet it broke off after having the car for a year. The problem that I face now is that I cannot get out of my car!!!!!! I arrived home one day and found that the drivers side door would not open from the inside. I am 7 months pregnant and was very scared when I found this problem. What if there is ever a car fire or an accident and I cannot get out? you can open the door from the outside but not the inside. Hyannis Nissan claims its a door latch problem and it had to be replaced. So since my warranty just ran out I have to pay $192. 00 to get this repaired. Are you kidding me? on a 2004 vehicle? talk about unsafe and dangerous!!!!
the last problem is that there is a bad smell coming from the vents in the vehicle upon turning the car on. Not sure what that problem is. Could that be hazardous to my health? not sure but it worries me with the baby I am carrying. I am sick and tired of paying for repairs when the problem is not me its Nissan yet I have to pay for it. And to think I have to pay $433. 00 per month for this vehicle plus pay for repairs that I can not afford. It's not fair and Nissan should have to pay.

When using the heater the vents blew hot as long as the vehicle was moving. As soon as the vehicle stopped, the vents blew out cold air. Vehicle had been to the dealer four times trying to find the cause of the problem. The dealer finally informed the consumer that the temperature change was normal.
