Nissan Altima owners have reported 10 problems related to fuel injection (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Altima based on all problems reported for the Altima.
2002 Nissan Altima. Unit #1 was westbound on ir80 in the right lane when the engine compartment caught fire. Unit #1 pulled to the right berm and extinguished the flames. According to the police report, the burnt wires were traced to the fuel injection. (ohio traffic crash report #10-0425-90).

2005 Nissan Altima has defective crank sensor. The throttle stops working not allowing fuel to the engine therefore stalling the car even in motion. Nissan has redesigned replacements but are incorrectly redesigned. Even with warranty Nissan refuses to remedy leaving people without cars.

1) normal driving - sel light came on p0304 and rough engine idle
2) intake manifold gasket failed - poor idle - will not pass emission test - 60k miles
3) replaced gasket after finding many other owners had same problem even after 32k miles. Nissan should fix this under an extended warranty but they refused. Here are details of the issue:
there is an engineering or material defect on the ka24de engine in regards to the intake manifold gasket. From reading the posts of dozens of owners it appears it is happening to engines made in the 00-01 time frame. If this were just some random problem then you would expect to see about the same number of posts on p0304 and gasket leaks for any year car. Just about all the posts concern specifically 00-01. The first hand evidence I had is when I took off my intake manifold and checked the condition of the gasket. The side with the leak was at cylinder 4. When I took off the gasket, the material at the cylinder 4 side was what I can only describe as "baked". It was hard and brittle and would just crack or snap very easily. The closer the gasket was to the number 1 cylinder it remained more pliable. Obviously the gasket seems to hold up better closer to cylinder 1 because it is cooler there - that is where the passage for the coolant is. This problem causes a p0304 code to get thrown. That is a misfire at cylinder 4. Again, if this were some random problem - couldn't we reasonably expect a normal distribution of the cylinder misfire code from p0301, 302, 303, and 304? but that is not the case. I don't think I have seen any posts on anything other than p0304. There is extra heat around cylinder 4 above what the gasket material is rated for - which is an engine design issue. 2 cars verified so far happen to be California emission vehicles it seems plausible that the extra heat is related to the emission control devices these cars have - specifically the extra cat converter.

I purchased my vehicle 3 months ago. At approxiamately 2950 miles, my service engine soon light came on. Immediatly after that my car became sluggish and is having acceleration problems and feels like it is dragging. Brought to dealer service and they said the problem is with the throttle body and they have to order a replacement part. They released the car to me. I asked them if it were okay to drive, and if doing so would it make the problem worse, they advised no, it is okay to drive. I called in 3 days later to see if the part was recieved, they stated it was not, they claim the part is on back order.
(1) my 2002 Nissan Altima shutters and dies when being driven at low rpms. I. E. (heavy traffic, or stopping at a traffic light). (2) it shuts completely off when in motion. (3) I had the vehicle serviced last week, for this problem, and it's back at the shop again today for the same problem. I tried to explain that there was a related recall issue, but kevin at urban Nissan in duncanville told me that according to his system, there were no recall issues for my car.
A malfunction within fuel injection system caused vehicle to catch on fire.

I own a 2002 Nissan Altima, that my husband purchase for my 15 year anniversary, may 2002. In oct 2002, it started with lose belts that wasn't repaired until Dec 2002. Well, in Mar 2003, my car wouldn't start. So, the service guy told me to put it in neutral and try to start it, nothing!! so, when the tow guy arrived to tow to dealer, he tried with no success. So, my car was left at the dealer for 4 days, the service dept said it started for them. So, while I was checking out at the cashier, the service manager so happen to be standing by and over heard me talking to the cashier. So, he and I went out to my car and it started for him, but he stated that it's a delayed cranking and they've gotten a service complaint about the Altima's not starting and they believe it's has something to do with the fuel injection, but before they can recall the car, they must know how to repair the problem. So, he said whenever it does it again, while cranking the car, push down on the accelerator and give it some gas and it should start. Well, in April, while in d. C. , on vacation, coming out to start the car, it didn't start. So, I did what the service manager told me to do and it started, but I had to end my vacation, because I was afraid to chance it far from home. Well, I took my car in to get the oil change and I did let the service dept know of the problem. Well, here it is June 2003, my car stalled again and my husband was very upset, because he had driven it to work and he managed to get it back to work and when he got ready to leave work, it wouldn't start and he had to push down on the accelerator and give it some gas for it to start. Well, I'm taking my car to the dealer on Saturday, June 21, 2003 and who knows what excuse they'll have. And to make it soo bad, I'm going to a reunion, in florida and I wanted to drive my car, but I'm not sure if it's safe to drive at all, now. Well, I hope those of you get some solution to this problem.
While driving 40-45 mph, noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Consumer pulled over and fire department put out the fire. Vehicle was totalled. Fire department thought fire was caused by fuel injection system. However, cause of fire has not been officially determined yet. No injuries.
