1 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle became inoperable and the contact felt the rear suspension drop. Through the rearview mirror, the contact observed sparks coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road and had the vehicle towed home. The dealer (Nissan kia of middletown, 4961 route 17m, new hampton, NY 10958) was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The dealer advised the contact to call NHTSA. The contact believed that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 06v046000 (suspension). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.

2 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/08/2011

On several occasions my car as suddenly cutoff, while driving!!!! luckily, nobody was ever physically hurt. Mentally and emotionally it scared the crap out of several people, including myself. While on the expressway I've started to notice my car automatically slowing down after a certain speed, without me even touching the brakes. For awhile I stopped getting on the expressway, in fear of my car completely stopping with cars driving behind me at a faster pace. Also, at 55 + miles/hr my tires start to wobble and there's a scrubbing noise with the wobble sometimes. It feels like my back tires are about to fall off. I've bought 3 sets of tires already, and tomorrow will be my 4th set. This is ridiculous and very unsafe!!!!! please help me, thanks.

3 Rear Suspension problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/22/2010

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima, that is burning oil. I have to put at least two quarts of oil in there every 2 weeks. Now my car is shuttering and hissing at me and not getting anymore when I accelerate. I'm being told that I will need a new catalytic converter and possibly an engine. Nissan is willing to do nothing about this issue. After doing some research I'm showing that this a common problem with this year of car and should be taken care of by Nissan. As a consumer what can be done. This is unfair to us, thinking we are buying a reliable car when it's really a piece of crap. I will never buy a Nissan again. Sticking to Honda's.

4 Rear Suspension problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

2002 Nissan Altima. There is severe rust and corrosion in specific locations directly under both the driver and front passengers seats and floors. The corrosion appears to be related to two factory holes in the floor, one on each side of the vehicle. The corrosion on the passenger side of our car is less severe: a large area of rust but a relatively small hole (tennis ball size) through the sheet metal. The drivers side of the car has a large hole (soccer ball size) in the floor. This is the only major corrosion on the car (the "rear subframe" assembly was replaced in 2006 due to corrosion under a Nissan warranty program). The fuel filler neck is also rusty and does not seal properly, which can cause an engine alert when the fuel vapor seal leak reaches the point where the alert is triggered. There is little or no corrosion in the wheel wells or fenders. Based on two bids from auto body shops in this area, the cost to repair the rust damage will be between $2500 and $3200. I have taken photographs of approximately forty Altimas in this area. All but five have corrosion in this specific area to varying degrees. It is clearly not limited to only the car we own. Nissan has a warranty program which covers rust perforation for a period of five years from the date of manufacture. I have spoken to a number of people at a dealer in this area regarding this problem. They claim that Nissan is aware of this problem on 2001 through 2005 Altimas, but has chosen not to warrant it due to the expense, preferring instead to refuse to be responsible. Nissan will apparently take the cars in trade and sell them to wholesale auto operations where they are sold to customers who may or may not be aware of the problem. Updated ivoq 11/05/10 the battery was replaced. Updated 12/22/10.

5 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/22/2008

I purchased a new 2008 Nissan Altima from baker-jackson Nissan, houston, for my daughter on may 21. My daughter drove the car one day and returned it to the local Nissan dealership in her city of arlington, texas. This dealership, don davis Nissan, informed us they don't know how we were sold this car, because the rear suspension had basically come apart. The studs holding the struts were missing and broken off; one missing completely and the other sheared off. They indicated my daughter was very fortunate to have arrived in arlington safely without a major accident occurring. I have asked Nissan to replace the car with an exact make/model/style, but to date they have not and are telling me they are planning to repair the car. They sent a Nissan engineer out to the arlington dealership to review, and he indicated to the service shop personnel, the studs were not torqued properly from the manufacturer. I have placed a claim with Nissan consumer affairs, I have talked to baker-jackson Nissan to replace the car----to date, I am only getting the run around from both. We have only driven the car 1 day and have been inconvenienced for more than 2 weeks now. I think Nissan may be trying to cover up a manufacturing defect. I'm ready to go public with this and am considering legal actions. Can someone from this office please call me and discuss my options. I don't trust this car, even if it is repaired---what else could be wrong with it. We are very dis-satisfied, unhappy and frustrated customers. Baker-jackson Nissan, houston, in my opinion does not deserve to be in business--if this is how they treat customers. Nissan's attempt to cover up a defect should be revealed as such. I only want to replace the car and make sure Nissan fixes this problem for other consumers before someone is seriously hurt or killed. I understand, manufacturers make mistakes, but they need to do their due diligence to correct this problem before someone is killed.

6 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/29/2007

I bought a 2006 Nissan Altima in November of 2005. I have now had this vehicle for 2 years. I just came across 2 recalls online by accident. I was never notified of these recalls and they both appear to be very serious. 1- (#06v223000) from June 2006 involving "engine and engine cooling" that lists excessive oil consumption and possibly engine fire and 2- (06v0046000) from Feb. 2006 involving rear suspension and possibly a cracked bracket. I have had to add plenty of oil since buying this car, but cannot believe I was never notified about a serious and potentially dangerous safety hazard as this, not to mention the damage it must have already caused to the engine!! what do I do now and what can be done to this obvious terrible shady dealership and unforgivable manufacturer??.

7 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/03/2007

I bought my Nissan Altima 2. 4s special edition package in December 2006. I was going back from my office to home for lunch and just near my office when I was in the right lane of the "corporate drive" to take a right turn on to "tennyson pkwy", the car suddenly went on the right curb and it was really difficult to control. The car moved so quickly from the right curb to left curb (corporate drive was a two lane street dead end to tennyson), I believe that something must be wrong with the rear suspension to go out of control. This 2006 Nissan Altima car needs to be checked for safety, it lead to los of control. I have registered the complaint with Nissan as well for my car they told me the car is not in recall list at "that" time for the NHTSA# 06v-046. How many cars they are waiting to cause similar incidents before they issue recall ?.

8 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

9 Rear Suspension problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/30/2006

Too many issues to remember than all but I'll try: - excessive oil use - excessive coolant use - overheating to the aforementioned issues - intermittent transmission issues - failing airbag - electrical issues - broken sensors - catalytic converters gone bad - oxygen sensors gone bad - intermittent failure to start - intermittent car shaking and so on.

10 Rear Suspension problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/26/2006

Back passenger control bar (2 rods) broke at the weld while driving and caused my car to spin out of control, causing damage to the tire, and the rear housing. I had my car towed to a Nissan dealership, this was the poorest customer service ever, I was then told it would not be covered under either warranty that I carry. I was told to turn it over to my insurance company. I feel that Nissan is not taking responsibility for something that was a manufacturers problem. This same part has a recall in other states, just not florida? how is this possible? I have been told because of weather conditions, how many excuses can they get away with? florida does and will always have weather conditions! I have owned 4 cars, 3 of them being Nissan. I guess this says that I'm loyal and there not! I feel like it doesn't pay to be a Nissan customer. I have never been so upset and disappointed with Nissan. My car is now at a second Nissan dealership and I have to say customer service is no better there. I feel I have been taken for a ride. I believe all there in for is a sell! it doesn't pay to purchase the warranty, it's a sell and nothing more!.

11 Rear Suspension problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

The quality of the rear suspension on the 2005 Altima is poor. The back end of the car sags a lot with only one passenger in the back seat. When I have more then one passenger in the rear, the exhaust bangs on the pavement when pulling out of my driveway or parking lots. I've noticed this on all 2005 Altimas.

12 Rear Suspension problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/20/2002

I purchased my 2002 Nissan Altima s 2. 5 in Nov. 2001. 1) after a few months, I noticed a shimming or vibration coming from the steering. It feels as if were coming up from the front tires through the suspension. However, though it is usually present, sometimes it doesn't vibrate for a while, then it starts again! I have changed the tires (though used the same brand), had the tires balanced, rotated and the wheels aligned, yet the vibration continues. In addition, at the last alignment, the mechanic had problems aligning the rear suspension in particular. The car has also shown abnormal tire wear. I have also checked the consumer's comments section of edmunds. Com, a car-based website, and a number of people have noted this vibration in the steering.

13 Rear Suspension problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/01/2002

My 2002 Nissan Altima 2. 5s has had three sets of tires replaced (four total sets including original tires) and three 4-wheel alignments in less than 6000 miles. Manufacturer has not determined root cause of problem. Symptoms are excessive tire vibration and interioir noise from rear axle and vibration in steering wheel and gas pedal at highway speeds. Manufacturer has not implemented any tsbs to determine root cause. Tire rotation and re-balancing exacerbates the problem.

14 Rear Suspension problem of the 2001 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/04/2001

Left rear of vehicle started making a crunching/rattling noise over even the slightest bump. Dealership determined it to be noisey swaybar link. This happened because bushing pushed out apparently. They had to install a washer on swat bar bushings retainer. Not sure if this could have been a potential safety hazard where I could of lost control of vehicle. I found this bad because car is new and only 2 months old and I drive all highway interstate miles. No side/off roads with major bumps to knock this out. Hopefully prob won't happen again. It is a concern since veh is new and there was no extremely rough driving done with vehicle.
