2 Transmission Failure problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

My 2015 Nissan Altima's transmission just went out at a mere 95,000 miles. I just had all the tires and brakes repaired ready to go for inspection and the transmission randomly failed while making a delivery for uber eats. The vehicle just started stalling out after stopping and got worse from there. No warning lights or anything it just won't switch gears. I turned on my hazard lights and went home and it wouldn't go above 50, I'm lucky I even made it home. There was a recall for the cvt transmission I had looked at 3 years ago after something similar happened and I saw a class action lawsuit related to this but now I am out the repairs on the brakes and tires and stuck without a vehicle and I rely on uber eats. I think I got sold a lemon. Ever car me or everyone I know had went until easily 200-250k miles before the transmission went on older vehicles; now a "newer" vehicle goes out under 100k? that's why there's a class action lawsuit out for this and I really wish I could have gotten in on it because now I'm out the cost of repairs, I can't do my job without a car, and I'm stuck with the bill for a car that doesn't work so I'm just out that money.

6 Transmission Failure problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/25/2020

On Friday, November 27th as my wife came home from work, she called me to report that the car was behaving strangely, shuddering and losing power. We have never had any drivability issues with this car since we bought it, nor any mechanical problems of any kind. She managed to get home and when I took a look at it the check engine light was on and we decided to tow it to the dealership on Saturday morning in order to get the issue diagnosed. From what was explained to us at the Nissan dealer today, Tuesday, December 1st, we were told that under Nissan's policies, any car that has a "branded" title causes the new car's limited warranty to become null and void. We bought this car used on February 7, 2017 when it had 2,356 miles. The vehicle today has less than 35,000 miles since new. The issue is the cvt transmission has failed, which is widely known by Nissan to be in an issue in several model vehicles including the Altima for at least six years that I am aware of. We are in no position to spend over $3500 plus diagnostic costs to repair this vehicle, and having the uncertainty that this issue could re-appear again at any time in the future and we will again be forced to spend another undetermined amount similar or higher than the current estimated costs. Additionally, if and when this transmission is replaced, we fall back into the situation that the transmission replacement will have an unknown limitation on the warranty of the repair. Through class action remedies Nissan has extended the factory warranty to cover these repairs to customers who are outside of the regular warranty period (essentially the same as not having a factory warranty), extending it to as much as 120,000 miles in some cases, and even transferrable to new owners. We contacted and opened a case at Nissan, but they said no. No more Nissan vehicles for me!.

Car stalled in middle of road while turning left. Started again, but died when put in gear. Pushed it out of the road after traffic cleared. Attempted to drive in for repairs next day, but it sputtered and died halfway there. Had it towed to dealer. Dealer says $4300. 00 for transmission replacement. Dealer said he was unaware of this particular problem and that the 3 outstanding recalls were for minor safety adjustments. Clearly lying to me given the wealth of data regarding similar transmission failures for this model/year I have found online. At no point was there a warning/hazard/engine light on. Very very dangerous defect and should be subject to recall.

15 Transmission Failure problem of the 2008 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

We were driving on I-695 in baltimore area when I started to notice that while pressing acceleration paddle, the car was not moving forward. It started to stall and eventually stopped completely. Luckily, I was able to pull it to the curbside before a collision may have occurred. But someone with less driving capabilities may have ended up in an accident due to the car stalling without any warning. Later on I found out the transmission failed and Nissan didn't care at all when I contacted them. I got transmission replaced myself. I thought I should speak out about this because a transmission stalling a vehicle at nearly 65 mph is a safety issue that needs to be addresses.

20 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/25/2019

Nissan Altima 2012 2. 5s model at 115000 miles :without indication the vehicle suddenly could not shift properly when the vehicle started and rpm would go up till 4000-5000, also the vehicle could not run over 65mph: the speed was locked up while rpm kept going up till 3500-4000 I had a near miss from an severe freeway accident because of that problem and dare not drive on freeway after that. The transmission was failing and the mechanic said that the failure pattern was exactly the same as older models(03-10) of Nissan Altima, where the warranty is extended to 120000 miles for transmission. Cost more than 3500 to repair and all the mechanics I met would call those transmission units junk and some of them had multiple Nissan Altima under repair with the exact same transmission problem.

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

When I make a stop and then I leave the transmission fails and the car is very slow but the rpm goes up very high.

28 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

I bought a 2013 Nissan Altima in 2017. 4 months after the purchase with only 65,000 miles the car stalled in the middle of the highway with my children in it. I was able to get it restarted and the next day while working the transmission gave out in the middle of a parking lot. The cvt transmission was replaced at the Nissan dealership. Now 65,000 miles later the new cvt transmission died while I had a youth client in my car for work. This is extremely unsafe for a transmission to fail at the drop of a hat in the middle of the road. There is currently a class action suit against Nissan due to this issue. This is effecting my work and is not a reliable car. This needs to be recalled. Also the air compressor is an issue as well. This also needs recalled. There are hundreds of people who are experiencing these issues. What if the car would stop in the middle of a road and someone would hit me while I am with my children or a client? this needs to be looked into please. Because Nissan is refusing to help me at all for this second transmission that is only 2 years old!!!!.

29 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving 65 mph, the transmission completely failed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to Nissan of sacramento (2820 auburn blvd, sacramento, CA 95821, (916) 604-4095) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,953.

30 Transmission Failure problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

With no mechanical warning of any type (warning lights or overall vehicle performance), my 2015 Nissan Altima had the cvt (transmission) fail. The car starting to sputter and act up while driving it, no warning indication of any issues still, and then the transmission failed. Stopping all forward motion of the car. After restarting the car, the check engine light illuminated. I am finding that this is a known issue with the Nissan 2. 4l engines with cvt, no matter the model of vehicle. Luckily I was not on a multiple lane highway going 70-80 mph at the time of failure as this is a serious safety concern! had I been driving in rush hour traffic, I could have been stranded in the middle of a high speed traffic lane, putting my life, along with my passengers lives, in danger. In speaking to my local dealership, they see this failure multiple times in a week. Had my 16 year old, new driver, been driving this vehicle at the time of failure, we could be dealing with an entirely different situation. This is a defect of the transmission that Nissan is knowingly installing in their vehicles even today. Nissan did extend the powertrain warranty for multiple models from 2003-2010; however the problem with the cvt has not been resolved even by 2015.

31 Transmission Failure problem of the 2011 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

Cvt transmission failed. Doesn't go forward or reverse.

32 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

The vehicle has around 57,500 miles, was bought certified pre-owned at a Nissan dealership in 2016, and has only been serviced by a Nissan dealership since purchase. The vehicle failed to properly accelerate after a stoplight. The vehicle was stopped at this light and could only accelerate to about 12 mph afterwards regardless of how hard I pushed the gas pedal. I tried stopping and shifting to park then back to drive, yet the problem persisted. This is incredibly dangerous as it happened without warning. No lights came on and no alerts populated on my dashboard screen. This has happened multiple times before, and it seems to be a common problem among Altima owners. This seems to result from a defective continuously variable transmission (cvt), and the failure to properly accelerate will eventually lead to complete transmission failure. Hopefully, this will not happen when I am on a busy road or interstate as this is immensely dangerous and possibly fatal.

33 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/20/2019

Transmission fail. My 2013 Nissan Altima started shuddering at acceleration for few days then suddenly started to hesitate and go into limp mode. The car would not move when pressing the pedal or in reverse. This has caused a safety hazard in the middle of the highway when the car suddenly lost its power to move as if it's in coma. Two mechanic shops said the cvt transmission system needs replacement. Costs 3500$. Cannot afford it of course and the car itself now is not worth this amount.

34 Transmission Failure problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

2016 Nissan Altima 2. 5sr cvt transmission failure at 26k miles. While in motion going freeway speeds, vehicle suddenly loses power when attempting to maintain cruising speed and rpms fluctuated intensely up and down. Felt very unsafe while trying to pull over to the shoulder and feared other vehicles could have struck me while having no control over vehicle speed. Brought vehicle into Nissan dealership and confirmed it is an issue with cvt transmission requiring $4k cvt transmission repair, luckily covered under 5 year, 60k mile warranty. This issue seems common with other owners of the cvt transmission and should have its powertrain cvt transmission warranty extended on newer models to 10 years, 120,000 miles just like the 2003-2010 year models with the cvt have received.

35 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/26/2019

Cvt transmission failure.
