1 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/17/2021

The transmission has failed prematurely. The car has stalled creating a dangerous situation. The vehicle will vibrate and pulls oddly at low speeds. A burning smell has now developed and I cannot drive the vehicle due to safety concerns. There are many many other Nissan Altima owners reporting the same issue and there needs to be a recall on the cvt transmission on my car.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

Car jolts and shudders on the road intermittently. Very unsafe as car jolts forward on its own. Car stalls sometimes on the road. Extremely dangerous as you never know when it is going to happen. When you give a little gas, car will sometimes go normally or it will jolt forward like a clutch being let out even though its an automatic. Always happens while driving on the road. This has been an issue with 2013 Nissans and still they have not done a recall. Things that are this dangerous should be recalled because most people cannot pay 4000 dollars for a new transmission.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

7 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced random issues while attempting to accelerate from a stop. The vehicle would fail to exceed 2 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle shuddered with an abnormal sound. The vehicle was turned off and restarted for the computer to reboot. The contact received a letter from the manufacturer citing a known issue with the cvt transmission. The manufacturer extended the warranty coverage to 7 years or 84,000 miles. O'neil Nissan (849 street rd, warminster, PA 189740) was made aware of the failure however, there was no dtc codes retrieved. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take it to another dealer for a second opinion. A field technician was sent to diagnose the failure however, the field technician had not shown up to diagnose the vehicle. Montgomeryville Nissan (991 bethlehem pike, montgomeryville, PA 18936) was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that no failure codes were retrieved. Both dealers informed the contact that other Nissan vehicle owners had reported the same issues however, the manufacturer had no remedy for the repair since the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 63,665.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/12/2020

I own a 2013 Nissan Altima purchased from my friend who originally purchased it from a Nissan dealership. The car's shown transmission issues 12th July 2020 when I was about to stop for a signal. The car was shuddering before coming to a full stop. Initially I thought it was a brake issue, naively thinking given that I experienced it when coming to a stop. But when I pressed gas after signal turned green, the car did not accelerate as it would do normally. I rode the vehicle for another 5 miles the next day and the problem continued to get worsened. Upon researching and finding that it is a transmission issue, I scheduled an appointment with Nissan dealership for July 15th morning. The car did not go in reverse at the beginning and I had to change the parking gear before I tried to reverse again. This time it slowly moved. When moving forward in roads, the car was not able to go beyond 20 mph and the rpm would go up and down when pressing gas. I barely managed to reach the dealership and they assessed the vehicle to have transmission issues. They told that the transmission needs to be replaced.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/29/2020

Driving down road, car shudders and then loss of all power. Transaxle has/had no forward or reverse gears. No warning or dtc, just quit. Driving down a city street fortunately with little traffic at the time.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/09/2020

When coming to a stop the car will shake a little bit and then when I go to accelerate through a light the transmission will slip and the car will just sit there for a few seconds and then the transmission will kick in and there will be a jerk and off I go. This happens way too often. This happens alot. Your entries only have place for 1 date. Bedn happening on and off for over a year.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving, check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. Additionally, the key not detected message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and shuddered without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Princess anne automotive center located at 5333 e. Princess anne rd, norfolk, va 23502, and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000. The VIN was invalid.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2011 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/23/2020

While in motion exiting a highway at approximately 35 miles per hour, the entire car shook, and started to lock up the wheels until the entire transmission released and had no further response. I had to coast over to the side of the road and the car was disabled as I had no forward or reverse gears despite the engine running perfectly. Car was free wheeling as it would not remain stationary on an incline road (had to use emergency break to restrain the car as wheels were free wheeling in park. It was very scary and had other cars been around or next to me I may not have been so lucky. It was nearly impossible to control the car while the shaking was occurring until the transmission released and steering was regained while coasting.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle vibrated with a loud sound was coming from the front of the vehicle. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,000.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/16/2019

My transmission is slipping. . Car won't go in reverse or drive. Was driving then the car started shaking then stop moving. Check engine light is on.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

My car starts to shudder and sound like it's in neutral. I was turning into a store and it stalled, but it then kicked into drive so I could move out of the way of oncoming traffic. I have had it checked by a reputable transmission person and was told to take it back to Nissan because there have been some recalls or extended warranty. I called and long story short, I was told it has no warranty due to being over the mileage and there aren't recalls. I have checked and see some complaints filed back October of 2018. Mine is doing the exact same thing. I see it was some of the models; however, if all of these cars are having the same transmission problem, the warranty should be extended so they can be repaired.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

Have shuddering of the car when driving up to 40 mph. Took to the dealership (where it has always been serviced) and diagnostics determined a "bad" transmission with identified "judder" code. However, the extended warranty issued by Nissan to address to this issue does not currently extend to 6 cylinders, of which mine is. I have an issue with this, as my car is experiencing the same issues as stated in bulletin ntb16-085 and ntb15-015g.

18 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

Car shudders, idles up and down, loses power while driving. When accelerating, the tachometer will raise to 4500-5000 rpms with no real power supplied to the car, and will only slowly accelerate(slipping?) tachometer bounces up and down within 100rpm range while coasting. My cvt is about to fail.

19 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/22/2019

June 2019, vehicle started to judder, shake and stalled out at red light. Put the car in park, restarted the vehicle, put it into drive and it stalled again. This happened 3 more times until I was able to drive. Approaching another set of lights, vehicle slowing down and the judder and shaking began, I did not come to a complete stop so the car did not stall. I was able to drive home. I then let the car sit for 2 days before I drove it again and when I test drove it after those 2 days, the car seemed to be better, it did not stall out. It did shake a little and judder. No problems like that occurred until 3/9/2020. Approaching a red light, car judders, started shaking and stalled out. I then put the car into park, restarted, from park to drive, it stalled. I repeated this process for 5 minutes. I had to get out of the car and physically push the car off to the side of the road. 3/10/2020 drove the car to the dealership. Same thing happened in the vehicle on my way there. Juddering, shaking and stalling. I was able to slow down and make sure I did not let the vehicle come to a complete stop because it would stall out. I went on the highway because that was the easiest route. The entire time the car was shaking and I was going 60mph, which was 5mph under speed limit. Parked the car at the dealership. Explained to the technicians what was wrong, one of the technicians took my vehicle from where I parked and brought it into the garage. He confirmed my car was juddering, shaking and stalled. They notified me the car would not be able to be looked at possibly until 3/16. My car sat there for a few days, like it did back in 2019 when this first occurred. Upon further review of the diagnostics test, they were unable to duplicate the stalling, juddering and shaking. So they did not replace the cvt transmission instead they replaced the valve pipe.

20 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/17/2019

Vehicle shudders when coming to a stop, then shuts down. On occasion will not re engage into gear without shutting down and then must be towed( twice has died in the middle lane of a road, needing to be towed). Generally occurs when slowing down but has also happened when trying to accelerate. Nissan dealership claims there are no known issues with these transmissions and are unable to replicate issue.

21 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/30/2019

The problem started a few months ago with an occasional shuddering of the car and surging of rpms. This typically happened when I accelerated over 60 mph, but also happened seemingly randomly when maintaining speed. Over the last 3 weeks, the shuddering became more violent, more frequent, and less related to accelerating, just happening generally when driving 45+ mph. One week ago, I was driving home from a work trip and the check engine light came on, the car became extremely loud when driving, and I was having trouble accelerating (5/30/2019). The code was p0841, transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch. After reading about the code online, I was hopeful that the repair would be minimal, maybe just draining and refilling tranny fluid or replacing the sensor/switch on the transmission. However, within 2 days I realized the car was undrivable and immediately took it to the transmission shop. The owner looked up Altima recalls and lawsuits, thought my car was covered by the extended warranty (unfortunately, my newer 2013 model was not), and did not touch it. On my drive to the Nissan dealer, I could barely accelerate, could not keep speed, the entire car was shaking violently, and the noise was extremely loud which was very dangerous to myself and other drivers on the road. Given the diagnosis of near complete failure, I am fortunate it did not fail while driving. I brought it to the dealer for an official diagnosis, in order to have it in Nissan's system as backup for a formal complaint/class action lawsuit. After receiving an outrageous quote for a replacement transmission, I had the car towed back to the transmission shop for rebuilding (6/10/2019). The car is 6 years old, had a single previous owner, has lived in a garage, and has been well maintained.

22 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

My transmission is not working it has cause I as well as my fiance to have to miss work sometimes because of the cvt the car shakes and shutters and cuts off this happened to me while on the highway and my fiance where we could have been hit and ended up in a bad accident.

23 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

Car shaking coming to a stop then cut off.

24 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

When I was driving my car started grinding as if the engine wanted to shut down or the transmission I was getting ready to get on the freeway and I could barely move it was in gear it wouldn't do it in low gear either I will come to a stop light or stop sign because I was trying to make it home which was 5 miles away, and it would just barely inch out sometimes it won't even start for about 45 seconds to a minute to go into drive and the rpms at 25 miles an hour would hit up to five rpm's the whole time driving,I take really good care of my car in for this to happen to my transmission is not ok and then I started looking up that this is common in my car so why haven't you done any recalls? it all starts at 70,000 miles but there is no recalls for that because you only have your warranty is up to 60,000 miles which is a good thing because you know that the transmissions going to go out after 60,000 miles, anyway I barely got my car back to my home and I have a mechanic look at it and it's going to cost me almost $4500 to get my transmission fixed, and I still owe 16,000 on it. I don't know what's going on with your Nissan ultima's but looking up online mine is not the first one that this is happened to so therefore since I can't drive a car because I can't afford to pay all that money, and then I also am out of work because I need a car to drive back-and-forth, I am going to find an attorney that will do a class action lawsuit against you guys for the vehicles doing this! what is happening is not ok, and should never happen but with everything I looked up online there are hundreds of Nissan Altima's 2014's around 70,000 miles that the transmission is going out this is a problem and it needs to be addressed!.

25 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

When I start my car and shift the gear from n (neutral) to d (drive), and then press the accelerator, the engine stops. My car stopped in the city signal and I was shocked. I turned on the emergency indicator immediately and somehow managed to accelerate and move the car to a safe place. Also when driving I am seeing fluctuation in acceleration. When at rest in signals, my car engine makes vibrations. I have driven my car only for 53000 miles but I am out of warranty by 4 months. I have clean carfax history. I have good driving record. I have done all the recommended services. Still I get this problem. The multi inspection check they do during every service is superficial at best. Its free of charge for a reason. I am not sure why Nissan doesn't admit this issue and fix this free of charge for customers. This has been a recurring issue with Nissan Altima 2013 and I am surprised there is no recall issued by Nissan.

26 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/05/2019

While driving on city street, vehicle started to shudder and jerk eventually dying in the middle of the road while traveling with a toddler and wife in the car. Was lucky we were not hit by cars behind us and we managed to restart the car and steer away. Nissan dealership identified an issue with the transmission but were not able to reproduce the problem to provide evidence for claiming warranty. My car has 48. 450 miles on it and was purchased new in Nov 2012. Dealership returned the car asking me to come back when problem becomes more frequent. I am forced to drive a car with transmission issues and risking myself to an accident.

27 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

When coming to a red light on a one lane highway with a light. Light turned red, when coming to a stop, the car began shaking. I was behind another car and was afraid because the car was shuttering, jerkin, shaking so much I did not feel like I had control of the car. Once I stopped, the car engine shut off. The light turned green, but I was unable to move my car. When I tried to start the car, it would run in park, but when I put it in drive, it would stall out. I was stranded in the middle of an intersection. I could move by car by slight inches every time I restarted the engine and would stall out. Just enough to move the major of my car out of the intersection. Eventually, the battery died and I was towed to a local mechanic. This problem started the day before when I was going to work. I also, took my vehicle to the Nissan dealership I had bought the vehicle from months prior, because the car would shake and shut off when I came to complete stops at street light and stop signs. After, a diagnostic test I was told nothing was wrong. At that time, I was under warranty, I no longer am.

28 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

This is the second transmission issue I've had in less than a year. The car began shaking in February and stopped on me while at a stop light. There have been no check engine lights or anything to alert me of an issue. Now the car will hesitate severly before shifting gears. If I take the care out of park into drive or reverse, it takes upwards of 30 seconds for the car to engage into that gear. I have been stranded at home and at grocery stores due to the faulty transmission which I'm now being told needs to be replaced. I have had to endure random moments of shaking and even feeling as if the car has died while driving on the freeway. There have been no indicator lights regarding any issues with the car the car is less than 5yrs old and is a little over 100k miles I have been having transmission issues now for about almost a year.

29 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

The transmission was working fine as we were running errands and all of a sudden the car would not go into gear. The car also began to shake and then stall. All this happened in minutes. The car was stuck in the middle of the street creating an unsafe position. We took the car to autozone after it would go into gear again and they pulled a diagnostic code of p0776. The code is transmission related. The car was driven on city streets that night.

30 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

I was completely stopped a busy intersection waiting to make a left turn. With no warning the car jerked forward. The force of the jerking motion was so great that I initially thought I was rear ended. The car started sputtering like it was going to shut off, I had cars in front and back of me and had no where to go. I shifted the car into park to try and give it some gas to keep it from shutting off and it immediately shut down. I tried starting the car again and it immediately shut down as soon as I tried to shift into drive. I did this multiple times and the car kept shutting down. I was finally able to keep my foot on the brake and the gas at the same time and keep the car running. I made it to work thankfully I was only two blocks away and had to have the car towed back home. I was shaking and scared to death. I could have been killed!! I later found out the cvt transmission failed and will cost aprox $4000! this car is only 4 years old. After doing some research and reading all of the complaints about this car and the transmission. . I am shocked that Nissan is still allowed to continue with this "death trap" of a car! someone is going to get hurt in this car!!.

31 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/30/2018

Car shudders at low rpm acceleration and sometimes stalls when turning on to a busy street. Told by dealer transmission needs to be replaced. Car has 46000 miles and a branded title. Car restored to perfect condition after minor accident. Nissan refuses to acknowledge any further warranty due to the branded title. The reason for complaint is that there is a high percentage of these vehicles with this same transmission issue. Under normal circumstances the warranty would cover the powertrain for up to 60,000 miles regardless of the extended powertrain warranty that Nissan has granted to other Altima owners with this problem.

32 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2012 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/17/2018

I was driving on the highway when my transmission misfired- my vehicle lost power and went flat at 60mph. I was not able to accelerate above 60mph for the remainder of the trip and the car vibrated excessively quite a bit.

33 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

As I was driving my 2013 Nissan Altima with 35k miles on it, I came to a stoplight at a busy intersection and my car cut off completely without any indication that something was wrong. I was not able to put my foot on the brakes, I could not move my steering wheel, it just cut off. I was able to cut my car back on, however whenever I shifted my gear into drive it cut off again. I had my car towed to the Nissan dealership, and they stated they could not find the issue but reprogrammed my cvt since there was a recall issued for my car. They determined that after driving it for 25 minutes that day and 25 minutes the next that the cvt reprogramming could have been the solution to the problem but to return it to the dealer if it happened again. 3 days later my car began shaking and stalling very roughly while in motion and again cut off in the middle of the road while in drive. This time my young son was in the car with me, and him and I could have both been harmed or caused an accident and harmed someone else. This is unacceptable that Nissan has not recalled these vehicles or the car has been returned to customers without a solution to the problem.

34 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

A few months back I took my 2014 Nissan Altima, 4-cylinder to the Nissan dealership for a recall that was in connection with recall with the software of the transmission of some sort. I did not receive notice but was advised of this recall when I took my vehicle to nisaan to get services for an oil change. The recall was completed. Since having the recall complete my vehicle has been having transmission issues. At times I am driving on the freeway and the car shudders and loses power. I have come close twice to an auto collision as I am shifting lanes my car completely loses power and drops speed without my control with he rpm dropping drastically but regaining within seconds. The car jerks and shudders. I have had another family test as well and has said that the car is unsafe and something is wrong. I researched and see a multitude of complaints identical to mine to this particular year and model. I am taking to the dealer to have diagnostic complete and have explained that my vehicle was fine prior to the software adjustment with the transmission. I have been told that they are not sure if this is the issues and possibly I will get stuck with paying whatever repairs. This is completely unfair to the consumer having to pay out of pocket for a transmission defect that thousands of Nissan owners are having the issues and nothing seems to be done to remedy this unsafe vehicle. I would like investigation to be done on this and in the event that while I am driving this vehicle and this occurs causing an accident I will hold the manufacturer at fault for allowing this vehicle to go un-repaired for a faulty transmission that thousands of consumers are complaining about as being a "lemon of a car" and "unsafe. " the date this issue last occurred with me driving my vehicle was around 8:30a. M. On January 5, 2018.

35 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/06/2017

We purchased a used Nissan 2013 Altima approximately 2 months ago. We were driving westbound on interstate 71 between florence, kentucky and louisville, kentucky. The car had about 86,000 miles on it at the time of the incident. While driving the car seemed to vibrate and feel like it was missing or stalling. Frequently the tachometer would rev high without any change in acceleration. We stopped at a rest area just east of louisville. When we left the rest area to merge back on to I-71 we lost all acceleration and had to pull on to shoulder before being struck by an oncoming semi. The car jerked back into movement and we made it into louisville and onto I-64. The farther we went the less responsive the car got and we slowed to a maximum speed of about 30 miles an hour and had to pull onto the very narrow shoulder to get out of the heavy traffic. After letting the car sit for about 10 minutes we were able to get it moving again and after 2 more stops made it to corydon, indiana. At that point we rode in the other vehicle we were traveling with the rest of the way home then returned to corydon with a trailer to haul the Nissan home. We hauled the Nissan to a local transmission shop where the owner determined the cvt transmission pan was full of metal shavings and the transmission was deemed shot! subsequent to this happening we found out that Nissan had extended their power-train warranty from 60,000 to 120,000 miles on earlier models (through 2010), but not the 2013. We have encountered significant time lost, very significant expense, and were in danger of being rear-ended on the interstate when the car lost all acceleration.
