Nissan Altima owners have reported 28 problems related to transmission solenoid (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Altima based on all problems reported for the Altima.
Car started having problems when attempting to accelerate, began jerking and a shaking randomly while driving. These problems started around 70,000 miles. Recently my car started jerking while trying to drive out of a subdivision then the engine light came on and also the traction light. I couldn't accelerate so I safely pulled to side of road because it felt like I lost power. I was able to take it to autozone nearby where the scanner read a code for a stuck solenoid. After taking it to Nissan dealership where they were supposed to work on recalls related to my vehicle (including a cvt reprogramming),they called me and told me the transmission completely went out when mechanic tried pulling it into shop. Now I'm stuck with a car I can't drive and can't afford to fix. They quoted me $4200 to replace a transmission that seems to be faulty in the first place. Your customers need to be compensated for this. An extended warranty shouldn't have been the only solution. I'll never buy a Nissan again and will be avoiding cvt transmissions if possible.

My wife was driving our 16 Altima that just crossed 50k miles on 3/20/21 when she could not accelerate after stopping at a red light. She noticed the rpms were moving higher but the vehicle would not move. She turned off the car while in the middle of the road and was able to restart it. After restarting she could not exceed 40mph. While driving the rmp bounced between 1000 and 3000 and the car "jerked" while she continued to drive home. By the time she made it home the check engine light was on. I used a code scanner to see what was going on and the car returned the following codes (p0776pressure control solenoid b performance or stuck off; p0841 transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch a circuit range/performance). I took the vehicle to the dealership and after they did their diagnosis I was told the vehicle, needed a new transmission. This vehicle has been well maintained with only 50k mills and now needs a brand new transmission. The tech from the dealership told me this a common thing with cvt transmissions, especially on Nissans; which is why he recommends customers buy an extended warranty. If this is a known problem with cvt transmissions why hasn't there been a recall or redesign to fix the issue? it is very dangerous to not have your vehicle accelerate when you need it to. How many accidents have been caused or lives lost by defective cvts? it is a very scary thing to drive a vehicle with this problem. Please do some about this. We do not what this to turn into a takata airbag situation. After being warned about this problem. If you google Nissan cvt transmission problems, you will find videos and forums with complaint after complaint regarding this problem. Please get this issue fixed. My wife and I both have videos of what took place.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was at a complete stop, there would be a delay to accelerate with the transmission light illuminated. The contact had to turn off and restart the vehicle to fix the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with diagnostic trouble code: p0776 (pressure control solenoid b performance or stuck off) however, the vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000.

The issue happened multiple times but seems to happen more, the longer the vehicle is running. The first time I was waiting in a parking lot with the air condition running. I was leaving the parking lot and the vehicle paused and lost accelertion power for a few seconds and started going. I though it was an issue with the air condition so I turned off the air condition to see if it would happen again. When I got to a stop light and started to accelerate it paused again then accelerated. The pause seems to be from 5 to 10 seconds before the car would move. The longer the car was running the more it happened. At this time the check engine light was not on. On shorter distances the problem would not start but on long distances or on acceleration, the pause would continue. Finally the check engine light came on and I went to auto zone to get the code checked. It was a p0776 code,"pressure control solenoid b performance or stuck off" . I finally took it to the dealership to get the issue checked and they stated that the transmission would need to be replaced for $6000 on a 3 year old car with only 74000 miles. Problems 1. Lost acceleration for a few seconds before the vehicle will accelerate again 2. Completely lost acceleration and could not move and a hill. 3. Lost acceleration on the freeway and barely made to the side to turn off the car. Seeing the issues for the Nissan Altima and the complaints about the transmission, Nissan needs to take responsibility for a transmission they know has problems and repair the issue. They updated the warranty up to 2016 but not the 2017 or 2018 models that still have issues, using the same transmission as the 2016 models. I will not be buying another Nissan again because of their knowledge of the issue and not correcting it.

When I was driving my car and stopping at a traffic light and when I would start to drive again the car at times has a problem with acceleration and all of suddenly the check engine light came on I scanned the engine code and it showed a po 776 transmission pressure control solenoid b performance or stuck off the car would not move but when I turned it off after 10 minutes rest the car will start to drive again but with very slow acceleration and the rpm was very high when the car was only moving at 20 mph, my understanding is that this happens to a lot of the cars owners but these Nissan cars Nissan should fix the problems with the transmission they built know full well that these transmissions are no good ,currently there's no recalls on the 2017 Nissan Altima sv with this issue I will never buy another Nissan again till they fix the transmission problems costing the customers money and not fixing the problems with their bad transmission that they know about shame on Nissan the trash vehicles of the century only good for a short time then it junk afterwards.
The solenoid in the transmission responsible for shifting went bad at 67,000 miles and the valve body had to be replaced in the transmission. I was driving and when it was needing to maintain the speed without gas or brake applied it would jump between gears without reason and felt like a shudder as I was driving it.
The cvt transmission step solenoid and the accelerator paddle not working write it wont go anywhere sometimes only like 20 miles an hour have to pull over and turn it off and wait 5 to 10 min then it's ok for a little bit if I hit a bump it also shuts off can u help please itsbeen doing this since bought from an individual.

When trying to accelerate, the car will hesitate to gain power from a stop position. Sometimes the rpms will ramp up without me pressing hard on the gas peddle. I have taken it to advance auto and the code that comes up is p0776 pressure control solenoid. The dealership says that the warranty is expired but I've only had this car for 7 months. And I'm sure others are having this issues if not now very soon. Customer will very much soon be very pissed off after 7 months of having their vehicle or when the transmission hits 60k. At this point I don't know what to do and this has been a nightmare and I feel like it was a mistake getting this car.
When driving the vehicle will make a vibration noise, loses power. Absolutely no throttle response. Almost like getting no fuel, but you can hear the engine revving and vehicle will not move. Then all of the sudden it will start to move slowly. Then it will go. This process will repeat over and over. Until stop and turn the car off. When you come back it acts fine. Then starts over once driven a while. This happen when city driving or highway. I finally got a light to come on after several months of driving this way. Check engine code p0776 pressure control solenoid. That's in the transmission. Dealer says its not covered even though there have been complaints and recalls on other Nissan models with cvt transmissions.
=tl-the contact owns a 2017 Nissan sentra. The contact stated that the transmission failed when driving at various speed the vehicle decelerates and fails to gain acceleration after a complete stop the transmissio jerks, and slip. The contact statd the when the engine is shut off the vehicle transmisstion regains normal function. Acceleration. The contact also stated there was no warning lights before, during or after the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to two unknown Nissan dealers to have a diagnostic performed that was unable to locate a failure code for the transmission failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was also taken to a transmission specialist that was able to locate a check engine light code p0776 the electronic pressure control solenoid failed and the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was not replaced. The manfuacturer was contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 49,000. Li.
My car after it has warmed up from a stop it will not move when excellerator is depressed , even all the way to the floor, then will all of a sudden take off even peel out and if I continue to drive it will start revving the rpms but barely move. One time the check engine light came on and it showed the solenoid #2 needed to be replaced. Once the car was turned off it resets somehow and works fine for a while then does it again. So I will stop and restart the car before I get to an intersection so I won't get hit because my car won't go. It will also shudder on hills regardless of being cold or hot. Definite safety hazard and my daughter wants my car so bringing it in to get the solenoids replaced and transmission flushed to see if this fixes the issue. Rear passenger window has never been able to go down much from day I bought it, so may be related to door opening recall , guess we'll see.
Bought my Altima used with 60k miles. At 80k it started exhibiting a delayed acceleration from total stop after some warmup period. With 106k miles, after warmup, it now always has delayed acceleration from any complete stop. The accelerator pedal has no effect until 80% depressed then it starts like its in 3rd gear. Scary if turning across traffic. Dealer says its a faulty solenoid in the transmission. On line complaints across several models are prevalent.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving various speeds, the vehicle sputtered and a thud noise was present when the transmission switched gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the battery, but the failures continued. The failures eventually worsened and the vehicle randomly sputtered and stalled. On several occasions, the vehicle accelerated on its own. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission was damaged due to a faulty solenoid and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Don williams Nissan (310 western blvd, jacksonville, nc) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.
After driving at highway speeds for 25/30 minutes and stopping the car won't accelerate with the gas pedal pushed all the way for 10 to 15 seconds. On 6/20/2019 I stopped at a light, the car wouldn't accelerate and then started jerking in a manner that seemed as if the car was in the wrong gear. After this happened the check engine light came on. The code reads as a faulty solenoid in the transmission. After taking it to a Nissan dealer I was told I need a new transmission. This problem is similar to a recall that was issued in 2017 with the gas pedal and transmission acting messed up. If I stop the car and turn it off then immediately back on the problem disappears. Thus is a safety hazard because I can't always restart the car in a safe location but if I don't I could cause an accident when my car won't accelerate properly. Because of the similarities to the last recall and the fact that the problem is not consistent I believe this is a problem with the computer.
Shift solenoid has small metal plate that bends over time and loses contact the shifter. This makes car impossible to shift from park without depressing the shift lock using a small flat head screwdriver. After discovering fix, I dismantled the shifter and bent the solenoid plate back to the original position but a few months later, the metal plate has bent again. This small metal plate seems quite thin and flimsy. Search the web, lots of people have had this issue occur to their Altimas.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima. Check engine light, transmission failed at 60 mph, lacked forward power. Transmission did not shift properly vehicle unsafe due to lack of motive power taken to advance auto for diagnostic. Pressure sensor switch transmission needed to be replaced. While driving at approximately 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed of the diagnostic code: p0841 (electronic pressure control solenoid sensor). The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $4,000 parts and labor. The vehicle was not repaired. Nissan of elizabeth city located at 1712 n road st, elizabeth city, nc 27909, (252) 338-5161 was contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Piir=y. Ah.
P0776 codes populates after 02 sensors were changed. It's the solenoid b pressure line located in the valve body. It affects the car to the point we're it's undriveable and loses power. Car will not go over 3000rpms if it does it causes the car to go into lymp mode. There's been several complaints regarding the issue and Nissan has yet to make any effort to rectify the issue. Nobody has $3000 to replace the whole transmission, when it's only a little component that needs to be replaced and not the entire tranny. Rectify the issue and stop selling lemon cars with horrible parts.

While driving on a highway at 75mph, my car just stopped going. I decelerated very quickly. I was pressing gas pedal to the floor and car would not increase speed. It just would not go. The rpms went over 3,000. No check engine light came on. I didn't even have any warning in the days leading up to this event that this would happen. There were a lot of vehicles on road at that particular time and a truck happened to be driving behind me. The truck and other vehicles were all swerving on either side of me to get out of my lane and as a result, I could not get my vehicle off of the road until they all passed. As I kept coasting along waiting for opportunity to pull over to side of road, I kept pressing gas pedal. Eventually that worked and I began to pick up speed again, but my car was accelerating very slowly. I drove to exit and got off of highway. I waited about an hour before returning home same way. On drive home accelerating was slow and rpms were erractic. There was also a whining noise when I gave car gas. This happened once more. I no longer drive car on highway so I haven't experienced it stopping while driving, but it still whines, accelerates slowly, and rpms are erratic. Vehicle has been parked at service department at dealership. My car only has 108,000 miles on it. I've never missed any scheduled maintenance which dealership performed majority of it. The warranty was only covered up to 60,000 miles. Now I'm told that at 108,000 miles, I need a new tcc, valve body, and solenoids.

I bought the car at roughly 54k miles. Approximately around 62k, the air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. I work on residential ac units. My pressures are equalized. I bypassed the pressure switch temporarily during diagnostics to see if the pressure switch was the issue. The problem continued when bypassed. The issue is either the clutch specifically or the compressor is bad. Here recently, I have noticed a "jerking" motion when attempting to accelerate. Obviously, this will be the shift solenoid or the cvt. Cvt fluid is good. These issues have been going on with 2009 Altimas for over 8 years now. Why hasn't there been a recall? what is required to get a recall in effect? there have been multiple complaints regarding cvts, start/stop procedures, and ac problems, but not one recall concerning this has happened. Nissan refuses to help.
Gear shift will not come out of park. Multiple tries sometimes makes the solenoid release, but dealer says the mechanism needs to be replaced $700. Many complaints on the web, but no recall.
Serious intermittent problem where my 2013 Nissan Altima cannot be placed into gear from the park position with the shifter lever. When issue happens many times you have to pull out plug and insert screw driver into override shifter release in the center console beside the shifter in order to get the car into gear. It seems the electronically controlled internal lock mechanism in shifter will not unlock. Presented vehicle to Nissan dealer which could not reproduce issue and service consultant stated if they could have reproduced the issue most likely they would find that some liquid spilled into shifter and any repair then would not be covered under warranty. Issue happens very often and is frightening especially in cases where you need to get your car moved out the way quickly. The issue happens after starting the car, pressing and holding the brake, squeezing the park release on shifter and trying to pull the shifter back to put into gear and shifter will it will not budge or move. Sometime when shifter will not unlock you can wiggle the shifter handle or try repeatedly and the solenoid lock in the shift mechanism will finally release however most times you are better off using the override however you need to have a screw driver in car to perform that procedure. I feel if this issue is truly caused by any liquid spilling down into the mechanism that Nissan has a serious design flaw in placing 2 drink holders practically on top of this mechanism.
Regular driving. I went to park car and could not take out of gear only able to put the car in neutral and leave key in ignition . The car rolled into and was stopped by curbing, thankfully, before rolling into a busy road. The shift lock solenoid on Nissan Altima locked up. The shift lock solenoid and shift lock control module were replaced and old parts kept by dealer.

The car began to hesitate at a stopped position. It took extra pressure on the gas pedal to get it to go. At speeds of 60 mph, this same thing was happening. It almost needed to be floored to get it to go. It revved very high when I tried to give it extra gas. Sounded like it was in neutral. Took it to a repair shop and they said the transmission solenoid pack needed to be replaced. Only has 76,000 miles. This is a safety issue because if I need to pass or get rapid acceleration, I could be in an accident.

Automatic transmission solenoid malfunctioned. Caused the car to make loud thud and bang into gear between 1st and 2nd gear. Accident near miss, but no actual wreck. This is a widespread problem as any online forum on the Altima reveals. . .

The service engine soon light began to appear in mid to late June. I have taken my vehicle to two different mechanical establishments and they have ran the vehicle through their scanners and can not find the problem. They have replaced the resister on the transmission however the car continues to shift hard. Nissan has a bulletin about problems on the transmission solenoid but it has not been reported as a recall. My car has reduced engine power and has stopped on me once while I was driving. My vehicle has been serviced thoroughly and the service engine soon light is still on.
When accelerating, the car attempts to change gears and hesitates before changing into the next gear. When hesitating, the car loses acceleration and sometimes when it does change into the next gear, there is a loud clunk noise. It only happens occasionally. The dealership has already replaced the transmission solenoid pack but that has not fixed the problem.
Had car two months, experienced transmission slippage, took car to dealer 3 times couldn't find problem, finally transmission shifting solenoid replaced. Con tinued to experience transmission slippage. Returned car to dealer no trouble codes found, wouldn't act up. Finally transmission drive gear failed, returned to dealer. Needs new transmission, used transmission installed. Two blocks from dealer at gas pump car fails to start, shifter linkage not properly adjusted. Returned to dealer. Next morning noticed puddle under car, transmission fluid. Returned to dealer. Thought finally it was fixed. Nope. Experiencing transmission slippage again. Called dealer. Will return Monday September 25, 2000. In four months the car has returned to the dealer 7 times. I finally sugested that maybe there was a misalighnment between engine and transmission, they agreed to take a look. We are now making payments on a $10,000. 00 car that is not capable of being driven more than 40 miles without transmission overheating slipping and is unsafe because you never know when its going to happen and I was stranded in the middle of a busy street with cars coming both directions. I am fed up!!!! what can I do?.
