I was driving down a main roadway when the brake, vdc, abs and 4x4 lights all came on. The car also started making a bonging grinding and vibrating when I pressed the brakes. I pulled off to the side of the road and turned the car off. I checked to see if I could find anything wrong. I couldn't see anything so I turned the car back on and all the lights were still on but the noise and vibrating had stopped. I made it home without it making the noise again. The next weeks went by and all the lights are still on and it makes the noise and vibration each time I turn the car on but and I pressed the brakes a few times it goes away expect the lights are always on now.
I was driving about 30 mph on a city street and step on the brakes when approaching a stop sign. The brake pedal felt real soft and I could hear a grinding sound coming from the brakes and the abs and vdc lights came on. I had to pull off the road, turn the vehicle off and on again a couple of times before I could continue driving. This has happened to my wife and I 13 times.
On June 6, 2012, while traveling approximately 10 mph I applied the brakes to stop and the pedal hit the floor, there was little or no resistance on the brake pedal and I heard crunching, metal on metal sound. Also, the vdc off, slip and abs lights were on. I immediately pulled over, turned the truck off and on to reset it, and it worked, however, I began to travel a few miles and it happened again. I went to a local service station and code c1179 delta stroke sensor popped up. The technician test drove the truck and it ran well with no problems. The truck was fine until June 13, 2012, while leaving the supermarket it happened again. I was traveling no more than 10 mph and the brakes failed. I tried to reset it as I did before, however this time it didn't work. I had to turn the car off and on several times in order for it to reset. Once it was reset, I began to drive home and it happened again. So again, I pulled over to reset it and after several attempts it worked. This issue is very unsettling due to the fact that I have small children. This is my only method of transportation and I need this resolved as soon as possible.
I have a 2004 Armada I bought new in 2005. 08/2011 was the first time my abs vdl slip lights came on as I was braking, along with a horrible grinding noise with my brakes. I was going about 20 mph and attempted to stop. My braking was impaired, and if I touched the brakes anymore, my foot would go to the floor. Not knowing what to do, after trying the brake several times (which was more grinding noises) I shut the car off, waited a few minutes and started with no further issues until 10/2012 when the exact same thing happened. This time I was going 40mph on a 4 lane highway. I reported it to my Nissan dealer. They told me I had to drive it in when this was happening. Then 04/24/13 & 04/30/13 the problem reoccurred. On 04/24/13, I was driving 40 mph at the time that I attempted to brake. On 04/30/13, I was right by an autozone when it happened. They read the code while lights were on, and said the code was 1179. Again, the same lights were on, and again, they turned off after restarting the car. I called Nissan service who told me again that they need to read the code with lights on. They stated 1179 "meant nothing to them" because it wasn't done at a Nissan dealer. I called Nissan consumer affairs who said they didnt know anything of this problem. 08/18/13 reoccurrence of same issue while driving downtown chicago in stop and go traffic. Brought it in with no lights on to Nissan service (who have said I need the lights on to see what was wrong). Now all of a sudden they are telling me I need brake booster and to reprogram abs = $1100. That should correct the problem, should is what they said at service. I called #2 Nissan service, who told me I just need the brake booster replaced. Called a third dealer, they stated I just needed the abs reprogrammed.
When driving the abs light comes on then when you press the breaks they grind then goes to the floor.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. The contact stated while trying to decelerate the brakes would pulsate and slowly come to a stop. The abs lights also illuminated on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was inspected by a independent mechanic who informed her to replace the brake pads. The vehicle was repaired and the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was also inspected by the dealer who advised the contact that there were no visible signs of a failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Emergency brake light came on suddenly. Brake shudders and vibrates through steering wheel. Car makes a grinding noise when brake is applied.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that the brake light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle then lost power and the brake pedal went completely down to the floor. The failure occurred twice while driving 30 mph. He stated that it feels as if the abs is engaging and the vehicle has approximately 20% of its braking power. The contact has an appointment to have the vehicle inspected. The current mileage is 38,000 and failure mileage was 37,000. The consumer stated Nissan has TSB for this issue in turn the charge was $85 to reprogram the vsb control. Updated 08/23/07.
We have experienced problems with the abs system on our 2004 Nissan Armada since early 2006. Periodically while driving the brake light will illuminate, when brakes are applied the abs system activates and the brakes are very spongy. When released it sounds as though a big spring is released. Each time (approx 8 previously) we've driven very slow to a safe location, turned the vehicle off and back which resets the system. The occurrence happens at various speeds from 25-70 mph. On one occasion I was able to take the vehicle to the dealership during malfunction. Although observed, the weekend technician failed to properly relay the situation to the regular technician resulting in no action taken. Each time we were assured if normal brakes failed, would still have brakes with abs. The system also malfunctions on initial start up, when turned off and restarted the system is reset. Most recent occurrence was 5/11/2007, I contacted my current dealership and scheduled an appointment. On 5/14/2007, they found the dtc c1179 delta sensor out of program, it was reprogrammed under ntb06-040 program. Malfunction occurred again during initial startup of vehicle on 5/19/2007, taking vehicle back for service.
Repeated brake issues; abs computer shutdown; brake judders. This has been ongoing since buying the vehicle in 2004. Vehicle has had at least 5 different brake kits installed and the abs computer has malfunctioned twice in the past 6 months.
