1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2022

This issue had been going on for years with my 2004 Nissan Armada. Driving down the freeway at approximately 70mph and the brake light comes on out of no where. When this happens there us no way to safe stop the vehicle because the brakes will not engage. There is this rattling and grinding sound that happens each time. The only way to safely continue is turn the truck off and back on. This needs to be corrected immediately before there is a fatal because of brake failure. Nissan refuse to research all the complaints.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2021

As I was driving through the canyon at 55 mph I pressed on my brakes to begin to slow down for the construction zone coming up and they felt like air no pressure then there was a grinding sound like something was breaking underneath my vehicle as I let off my brakes the brake light came on and it sounded like a spring releasing under my vehicle. I attempted to use my brakes almost a dozen times attempting to stop with the same grinding and spring sound happening. Once I was finally able to come to a safe stop I turned my vehicle off and once I turned it back on the brake light was off and the pressure was back in my brakes.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2020

In the last several weeks on two occasions since being purchased in Jan. F this year (2020) the brakes on my 2004 Nissan pathfinder/armada off-road rwd have out of the blue, once at highway speed chattered while applying the brake and felt like they were not at 100%. The next time it was on a residential street, had just left a residence a half block away doing under 20 mph and it felt like the whole front suspension was falling off because it was chattering so bad. Didn't even hit the brakes hard and was afraid it wasn't going to stop at the stop sign. It continued to do it every time I depressed the peddle even very lightly. I had to pull around the corner and stop to check it out but couldn't find anything loose or wrong. I started off again several times before just pulling over and stopping to call a tow truck. It did not feel safe to make the 20 minute drive home. Once it was home it was like it never happened. I read some blogs that suggest that this is a widespread issue with this vehicle and they should be recalled and fixed free of charge. They say there is a fix (reprogramming the computer or something). The blogs say that the dealers are charging big bucks to do the work. This is a huge safety issue and should be dealt with immediately. I can't believe that Nissan hasn't been forced to recall these vehicles before this since it is way too common according the blogs. We purchased this vehicle primarily to transport our grandchildren and are now very hesitant as well as there parents are to have them ride in this vehicle. The brakes have been fully inspected by a mechanic and no mechanical issues are present. We are the second owner and it has been very well maintained. Cause: unknown. I am looking for a dealer now to see what they will do for us.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

Just recently purchased this huge monstrosity for my 3 children; today as we were driving the brakes completely went out! 10% braking power. Now im reading a 2016 class action and a lawsuit where a peron was killed. There are multiple posts regarding this issue. Nissan needs to recall this before more people are killed!.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

Press brakes and they start jumping and make a weird sound, don't work correctly as if you loose your breaks for sometime, pull over shut car off wait and then restart and everything is back to normal - scary at high speeds on the highway, this has been a continous problem and even my work around is no longer working. This happens atleast once a month with continued driving so I use my other car more often than not.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2019

I was driving down the road around 45 to 50 mph. I looked down and when I looked back up a car was stopped in the road. When I pressed the brake it made a weird noise almost like a spring going boing and air rushing. The noise is very hard to describe. The pedal went almost to the floor. The brakes had a weird grinding sound and a lot of vibration in the pedal. I had the brakes down as hard as I could. The brakes did work a little but nothing like they should have. There was only a very small light in color skid mark. I let the officer know after the crash. After looking into it I discovered this is a known problem. I was not injured but people in the other car were.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2018

Break light comes on while driving and when I go to stop it makes a god awful sound. Have to turn the car off and back on. This has happened several times since June 1st 2018. Turning if off seems to clear the issue but today 3 lights came on brake, slip and vds. Turning it off and back on did not seem to fix it. This is our family vehicle and we have 3 to 6 kids in it at all times. Nissan needs to issue a recall this is a huge safety issue!.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

The vdc off light, slip light and brakes pop up on the dash. The car begins to make a springy sound maybe from the brakes. The car has to slow down and it stops for a minute but it continuously does it while I'm driving. It happens with no discrimination as to where you are (city, highway, etc. . . ) .

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2017

In 20017 I was rear ended on i95 by another driver at no fault on my part. I requested the vehicle be fixed but a check of only $384. 80 was mailed to me 2 years later. Now the vehicles steering wables, along with the brakes and wheels.

The brakes suddenly quit working properly, vibration, grinding, etc. The SUV will stop if you baby the brake pedal. If I turn ign. Off, then back on, the problem goes away.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2017

Break was fixed as part of recall but now the same problem reappeared. The dealer says fix was one off and now have to pay for diagnosis and repair. Spent hours in many different calls to 1-800-nissan1. They are giving me run around and not authorizing the same dealer to redo the recalled components. The Nissan agent refused to consider it a safty recall issue. Nissan created case number: 26306021 agent 7319032.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2016

Drive in parking lot with slow speed. Red break light is suddenly on then the grinding sound is occurred. If try to touch the break, you feel it is difficult to response. It seems the break is engaged. It will be back to normal when you turn off the engine then turn it on. The red "break" light is off then back to normal. No any beak oil leaking. Go garage to check the odb2 code and there is no any error code for it. It seems the break booster gets messed up and no code recording for 2004 Armada. It is safety issue that the break will engage randomly. It is lucky that it happens in the parking lot with almost stop speed. It will be terrible when it happen in the high way.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2015

While driving and reaching either a stop light or stop sign or coming to a stop when applying the brakes the pedal depresses to the floor and the brakes grind it will continue to do that until you turn the car off and turn it back on. It has occured since the purchase of the vehicle oct 2014.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

My wife was driving our 2004 Nissan Armada home from the grocery store. She was on a back road heading home when she applied the breaks to go around a sharp turn. Instead of breaking, the vehicle made a loud grinding sound and the break peddle vibrated violently. Thank goodness she was able to manage the turn and that there were no other vehicles in front of her. If this would have happened on the freeway this could have been fatal.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

I will be driving down the street and all of the sudden my brakes will stop working, I would have to coast over to the side of the road turn the truck off and then turn it back on. Then it will reset. Ive taken it to the dealership and they said it no recall on the problem. I was also pulling my trailer and the same thing happen and I could stop so I had to go up on the medium to keep from hitting another car.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I currently drive my Nissan Armada to work 3 times a week. On occasion the break light would come on out of nowhere and as soon as I step on the break a loud grinding and springing noise starts to take place. Luckily I was able to slow down a bit and pull over. I turned off the car and after a minute I turned it back on and it was safe to drive again. This continuously happens and I'm afraid to drive it especially if my kids are inside the car. I see over 300 complaints and yet nothing has been done. We see all these GMC recalls, yet here we are with this Armada in just about the same dangerous situation.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

Wife was driving on dry pavement, approaching turn. Brakes gave a grinding sound and failed almost completely. She was barely able to make the turn and enter a parking lot where it eventually slowed to a stop.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

I was approaching an intersection with a stop light what was red. There were 4 cars ahead of me. When I applied the brakes, my feet also hit the accelerator pedal at the same time. The car jumped forward and hit the car in front of me and also pushed it into another car resulting in a multi car accident. My car sustained minor damage but two of the other cars had significant damage. This was the second time that this occurred to me with this vehicle. The other time was a similar situation where I was approaching a stop sign. Fortunately, no one was in front of me. In both incidents, I was wearing western style boots. But it could have easily happened with work boots. I believe that the placement of the brake pedal is too close to the accelerator pedal. This vehicle also has adjustable brake pedals, which could also be a contributing factor.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

Was driving vehicle 35 mph slowed down to go around sharp curve. When vehicle drove around curve there were vehicles in front of us that stopped suddenly. Applied brakes and pedal pulsed and required alot of effort to slow down. Was unable to slow vehicle down fast enough and rear ended vehicle in front of us. Caused a 3 car pileup. The 3 passengers in our 04 Armada suffered whiplash, the driver sprained her wrist and was out of work for 3 days because of accident. The Nissan Armada was totalled and had to purchase another vehicle. The brakes not working correctly is what caused the accident.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2013

Car involved is a 2004 Nissan Armada. I was pulling up in front of my son's friend's house to drop him off. My foot was on the brake and I was almost stopped when the car suddenly accelerated forward and hit a chevy truck that was parked in front of me. It lunged forward with such force it pushed the truck forward about 4 feet and the front passenger tire ended up on the curb. There is a lot of damage to both cars. This is the second incident within a 3 month time period. On 1/8/13 while my daughter was pulling into a parking space in a parking garage the car suddenly accelerated and she crashed into a wall. I figured it was a fluke thing and paid my $1000 deductible and they repaired the $8500 worth of damage. I am very concerned because if I would have been slowing down for someone at a crosswalk I would have ran them over. I have a complaint into Nissan since this is the second time in 3 months that this has happened. I dont ever want to drive this car again and will not put myself, my family or other innocent people in danger as something is horrible wrong with this car. Nissan gave me a case number and I was told someone would call me back. It has been 48 hours and so far I have not heard back.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. While traveling 30 mph, the contact applied the brakes and noticed that the stopping power had decreased. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the failure. The current and the failure mileages were 90,000.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would depress to the floor when the brakes were applied. The anti lock braking system would also activate when the failure occurred. The contact would temporarily resolve the failure by shutting the vehicle off and restarting. The failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 149,000.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

Brake issue in 2004 Nissan Armada. Brake in my vehicle came to less than 10% and with a 6000 pound vehicle with no brakes, I am prone to get into an accident. I have complained this issue to Nissan file number 7181591 on 06/01/2011. They are not doing anything until there are enough complains to resolve the brake issue. My initial report for this issue was on 02/06/2011 confirmation number (odi number) 10380868.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2011

Abs system on my 2004 Nissan Armada disengages while driving. Leaving the driver with only the emergency brake. It appears to be a problem with thousands of Armadas. Abs re-engages after you shut down the motor and re-start the vehicle. It is my understanding the problem is due to a faulty abs sensor.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and came to a complete stop when the brake pedal locked. He then applied the accelerator pedal and the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle had to be restarted in order for the brakes to function properly. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The failure occurred three different times. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. The contact stated brakes were replaced a total of three tmes since purchasing the vehicle brand new in 2004. The dealer advised that the braking system of his particular year and model was not designed for a vehicle his size and the 2005 and older models. The contact stated the failure was a safety issue because he may potentially not be able to stop the vehicle. The failure mileage was 19,000 and the current mileage was 67,000. Updated 08/12/10 updated 08/17/jb.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2009

About once a month my brakes go out for no apparent reason. The dealer doesn't know what's wrong and through research online I am not the only one having this problem. It's only a matter of time before they go out when I really need them. The dealer re-did my computer but the problem happened again after this supposed fix.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2009

Sinking brake pedal with diminished stopping power. Pedal sinks to floor. Vehicle must be turned off multiple times to regain power . This has happened sporadically. Dealer has not offered a solution.

33 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

I was coming up on an intersection and the truck didnt stop, so I turn to the left and had a head on collision with another truck.

34 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2009

Luckily, I was only driving 25 mph on my way home from taking my kids to school back in March. I approached the stop sign by my house and applied the brake, but to my surprise the truck wasn't stopping. I held the brake down and nothing. I went right thru the stop sign and kept braking. Finally my speed had decelerated enough to come to a stop. I turned off the car and then turned it back on again and could not get it to repeat what had happened. The truck seemed to be stopping fine now. I thought that maybe I hit a patch of oil. I told my husband and he said the same thing. Then about 2 weeks later the same thing happened to him. We have had our truck for 3 years now and this had occurred prob. 4-6 times. We have had the brakes and rotors replaced. This still did not solve the problem. Hopefully Nissan can figure out why this is happening and fix it before something awful happens to someone.

35 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2008

While exiting the interstate, went around the exit ramp. The brakes depressed farther than normal and made a grinding sound. The brake indicator lights came one. The vehicle shook while I tried to brake. I narrowly missed the guardrail and managed to keep the vehicle in control. I was able to slow down, although it took longer than it should have, and I drove slowly to a service station nearby. The vehicle was examined, and I was told I had been driving with the parking brake on and that the brakes had just "heated up". I wasn't driving with the parking break on though. It happened again a few weeks later and was taken to a different service station. They informed me that it needed to go to the dealer to have the service codes pulled, and that there had been braking issues with the model and year. Further investigation online revealed it can be fixed by shutting car off. It has happened several times since then, at random times with no antecedent. I drive cautiously and leave plenty of braking room, as I am nervous about the performance of the brakes and my ability to stop. Please have Nissan address and fix this dangerous problem!.
