The brakes locked up, experienced vibration on the steering wheel, and brakes began stuttering. This is about the fourth time that this incident occurs. This occurs as you apply the brake slowly at slow speeds, usually around 20-30 mph. Brake warning light in the instrument panel flashes. The only way to reset is by turning off the car and turning it back on.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph and attempting to slow down to make a turn, the brake pedal went to the floorboard. The contact managed to control the vehicle. A metal-to-metal grinding noise was heard from the brakes and the brake warning light illuminated. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the rotors and the wheels. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the dealer edden prairie Nissan, bloomington, mn, where the technician diagnosed and replaced the brake booster. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was approxitmately 50,000.
I have had a braking problem with my Nissan Armada for years & years. When driving, the brake light on the dash will come on & when you apply the brakes it will make a grinding noise & barely stop. Yesterday, while I was driving 68 mph in the fast lane on the freeway the brake light, vdc light & slip light randomly came on the dash, I had not applied the brakes. I have included a picture of my dash yesterday when this occurred. I knew from experience that I now had compromised braking so I quickly pulled over to the right & got off the freeway at the first exit. My car slowly ground to a stop. It took a much longer distance to stop than it should have. As always, when you turn the car off & restart, it resets, and the brakes work again. Whenever I have taken the car in & mentioned this problem they always act as if they have never heard of this problem before. The first time I experienced this was probably when the car was 2 years old & it has happened intermittently throughout the years, probably about 5 to 10 times a year. Nissan must be aware of this problem, it is all over the internet if you investigate. Updated 06/17/13.
The incident has happened twice already once while driving and going about 35 miles per hour. The 2nd while sitting in a drive thru. While slowing down for the light, it felt as the brakes gave out. The brake pedal did not have any pressure in them and gave this loud crunching sound. Also sounded like a spring moaning. Immediately the brake light came on as if I had my emergency brakes on. I was in a panic and swerved to the side of the road not to rear end the car in front of me. This continued until after I completely turned off the car, let it sit then turned it back on. The light went off and the brakes worked as normal. The 2nd time I was in a drive thru moving forward and the brakes seem to give out. Crunching sound, brake light and only went away when I turned the Armada completely off and then on again. After researching the problem online it appears that many other people are experiencing the same problem. This Armada, my wife drives to work every day back and forth. We can¿t afford another car and I fear for her safety and the cars around her. Here is a link of just some of the people having the same issue. . Read more...
Problem with car accelerating spontaneously when brake booster sensor fails at random times. Initial problem with brake peddle going soft and the anti-lock braking system gets activated when braking trying to do standard braking. The brake light turns on, the peddle goes to the floor, brakes are not normal and very touchy and the car shudders viciously to a stop while. Loud noise is scary while brakes not firing in the usual peddle position and feel like mush. Now in January a new situation started occurring when the brake booster would fail is that the Armada would also accelerate the engine on pressing the brake. I went to stop my Armada's and the engine surged its rpms while the anti-lock relays were firing. I stood on the brake peddle with my every muscle in my body to try to get the Nissan Armada to stop. I could not shift the car into neutral because the shifting lock seemed to engaged. I ended up turning off the engine and was able to stop. I called Nissan America to report this issue. Also stopped by the local Nissan dealership and service manage informed me that the braking issue was caused by the delta sensor in the brake booster and was a know issue but that this was the first time he heard about the spontaneous acceleration when applying the brakes at low speed and that he only had heard about the spontaneous acceleration when applying the brakes at higher speeds. He said this was caused also by the delta sensor in the brake booster. I think I understood him in saying that when this sensor fails it allows the booster to inject air into the intake that causes the car to accelerate. I replaced my brake booster yesterday to find today that my Armada has the same deadly issue! please have Nissan fix this known safety issue!.
My brakes failed twice in my 2005 Nissan Armada w/55k miles. The first time, my brakes failed to stop me at an intersection, with a near miss collision. The brake light came on & there was a horrible grinding sound, the brake pedal pulsated & I had to take it all the way to the floor to attempt to stop my vehicle. I immediately pulled over and was towed to my mechanic. I was told there was nothing wrong with my brakes? the light no longer came on and the sound was gone. Approx 3 months later it happened again. Driving 35 mph I started to brake and the exact same thing happened again. This time I drove home and parked it, got back in the vehicle to check it and the brake light was off & the sound was gone, brakes still felt different however. The next morning, I did some research online, saw a bunch of people having the same exact problems. I called Nissan directly & opened a case. Made an appt at the dealership, they knew exactly what I was talking about. After inspection they told me it was my brake booster & it needed to be replaced and reprogrammed & it cost $975. I called Nissan to let them know the cost & asked for assistance since it was a defective part. I was informed to not pick up my vehicle until I heard from them. I had rented a car from the dealership. Nissan took 5 days to respond & called at 5:30pm to say sorry we decided not to help. So not only did I pay for the part, reprogramming & service, I also had to pay for the rental as well! they denied me for two reasons, my vehicle was out of warranty & I did not have it serviced at a dealership. Poor customer service! because of that I will never buy another Nissan ever again! and I love my car. . . They need to own the problem! people are at risk because of faulty programming and parts. They will probably wait for someone to die before they actually take any action!.
When I was driving today, the brake light came on and it was very hard to stop. This has happened several times in the last several years. It's scary because you can't stop like normal. When this happens, I pull over, turn my car off and then on again and it clears it. This seems to be an ongoing problem from online complaints I have read and Nissan is aware of this. This is a huge safety concern. Please do something about this. This should be without a question, recalled. Thank you !.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the emergency brake warning light illuminated as the vehicle exhibited an abnormal grinding noise. The contact merged to the shoulder and powered off the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician advised the contact that the power booster sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact stated while driving the brake lights illuminated without warning and the brake system failed to engage. The contact had to coast onto the emergency lane. The failure was experienced numerous times. The brake system returned to normal function after the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle also experienced a failure with lost of acceleration, the air bag warning light illuminated, the drivers side door and the rear hatch door failed to lock electronically. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 118,000 and the current mileage was 129,000.
I needed to stop and my brakes wouldn't work completely. They slowed me down a little but did not function completely. The pedal pumped up and down made a weird noise and the brake light came on. If I had been traveling at a faster speed and been following closer, I would have wrecked.
Driving home about 45 mph, the brake light came on. I slowed down for the upcoming red light but the brakes did not work, they went into abs mode so I removed my foot from the pedal, re-applied pressure to the brake pedal and the brakes started pulsing and grinding violently. I could not stop for the red light so I dropped it down into 4th gear and made a hard right turn about 25 mph. Thankfully there was little traffic so no accident and no one was hurt. I drove the remaining two miles homes at 25 mph and without using the brakes until I got to my driveway. I applied very light pressure on the brake pedal and little noise but not much stopping power, thankfully my driveway is uphill. When I got home I looked up Armada brake failure and realized that there were hundreds of posts dating back to 2004, so this appears to be a common issue with the brake booster and computer.
My 05 Armada has problems with the brake senor light coming on and the abs system start acting erratic, vibration under dash and pedal moving back and forth the brakes lock up and start making grinding sound and is hard to control. When the car is stopped and restarted all problems vanish. Sometimes it does it when the car is parked like when I went to the store came out and try to drive it but it was locked. When im driving the car and it with just a touch to the pedal the brakes would just lock up. Its unsafe because there is no warning when it happens. I called the dealer and told the person in charge what was happening she said it might be the brake booster. I think its a computer hard ware or software issue because once its re-started it goes back to normal. Since my insurance has already expired and the lady said it will cost me about 1,000 dlls which I don't have right know it will be difficult for me to fix it right away. If it is the brake booster. I hope in the meantime im lucky enough to not be in a car accident because of this problem thank you. Help.
While traveling on the highway (50mph) red brake light came on dash and when applying pressure to the brakes, grinding noise immediately began and pedal pressure was not available. Almost full pedal travel to the floor board. At the time, abs was kicking in and brakes were not working properly. Had to swerve to miss cars that were stopped off of the exit ramp at a red light, pulling off to the side of the ramp. Had to turn the car off and restart the car in order for the brakes to work properly again. After research, this is a confirmed and known problem by Nissan of America with the brake booster/delta sensor in Armada and titan trucks manufactured by Nissan.
2005 Nissan Armada abs issues. Vehicle brakes just start grindiing and grinding when brake is applied and braking power is at a minimum. If you turn off the vehicle and restart is seems to work for a while. This is a very intermittant problem but very very dangerous. I was applying brakes to slow down and turn into a grocery store drive and the brake light came on, they started making a horrible grinding noise like the brakes were falling apart. . . . Stopping power greatly dimished but luxkily I was able to pull to shoulder and limp into lot. Once I turned it off and back on it has worked fine for several days. . . But very scared.
I was driving in heavy traffic and a car unexpectedly put on the brakes in front of me. I had to hit mine suddenly. My brake pedal went almost to the floor and make a sound like tin cans getting crushed and the brake light came on. The brakes continued to do this until I got to my destination. I didn't know what to do. My brakes wouldn't stop correctly and I was scared I wouldn't be able to stop. I had my husband leave his job an hour away and come get me. He drove it to the closest brake shop. They didn't see any issues such as pads, fluid, etc and it wasn't symptomatic. When turning off the car and back on, it cleared up. The brake issue happened again approx 1 1/2 week later and on a Saturday, then on the sun. I was not at home at the time. I did research and found that my Armada had this issue with 1000's of owners of this model. There is even service tech bulletins. The code clears and will fix temporarily when the engine is turned off. This is a serious issue. I can easily lead to a serious accident b/c the brakes will not stop like they are supposed to and you don't know when this is going to happen. I took to the dealership on Monday and they said it was the brake booster and it will cost 810. 00. They said Nissan will not cover it since it is not recalled. This is not a maintainance issue this is a factory flaw. The dealership didn't have the part for 2 days and told me not to go great distances because this was very dangerous. I contacted Nissan consumer repairs from the dealership and they said I should procede home with caution.
The brake light came on and the pedal went to the floor also a grinding banging noise. I shut the truck off and started it up and it was fine. This has happened 4 times in the last year, the last 2 times within the last week.
I have a 2005 Nissan Armada, the problem is complete brake failure. When traveling at slow speeds (<20mph) the brake system gives out completely. The brake pedal goes to the floor, the red brake dash light comes on and the abs and vdc systems go into a confused array of mixed signals and sounds trying to correct the failed brake system. At the time of failure the braking power is <25% of normal. In a panic stop or while trailering a load there would be no way to avoid a crash and injury. This failure occurred 5 times in one day before the vehicle was towed to Nissan. The scariest part of this failure is that by turning the vehicle off and restarting it, resets the system failure and everything functions completely normal for a time, leading the driver to believe that it was just a computer error that needed reset. Nissan reported that it was code c1179, delta sensor failure and required a new delta sensor and brake vacuum booster. The vehicle currently has only 39,458 miles on it. This is a major safety issue, this vehicle is rated to tow 9100lbs, when the failure occurs the vehicle can barely stop its own weight. The stopping distance during failure going 20mph was approx. 200 to 300 feet with only one occupant. Nissan knew exactly what the problem was when I called them so I am not the only one to have this occurrence. Upon researching I found 48 complaints that match mine on aboutautomobiles. Com. These people all took the time like me to create an account and voice their concerns in much detail. This is a manufacturing defect that should not be occurring on any vehicle. Please correct this problem before someone gets hurt!!.
While driving on local streets. Braking warning light came on. When applying brakes I could a hear grinding noise coming from the car and brake pedal feels springy. Took it to local Nissan dealer to have it check. But once the car is turned off and on. Problems disappears. Dealer unable to duplicate problems. Once I took it home brake warning light came on again with the same problem. Turn car on and off again problem disappears.
2005 Nissan Armada brake hydraulic failure. It happen at least once every other month ever since I own the Armada back when it's about 15k miles. While driving at low speed and coming to a stop, the brake light led up and the braking system is useless, it make grinding sound, sound like springs popping out in front of the Armada from tires. Almost crash the Armada into another car stopping in front several times due to useless brakes. Took it the mossy Nissan houston, they can't "replicate" the issue back years ago. Once you shut off the Armada, it reset and it went back to normal. And the problem continue, perhaps until someone get hurt or kill??????!.
11/10/10 while driving the brake light came on and the truck was not responding to the brakes I heard a grinding noise and the problem went away after I turned the truck off and restarted it. It has happen like 4 times to my wife while driving with my kids so im very concerned about this problem. I went to the dealer and all they could say was that they needed to get the code for them to try to find out was wrong with it. If there's someone out there that can help before its too late and something serious happens.
I started having serious safety issues with my 2005 Nissan Armada. The parking brake light came on and the Armada became difficult to brake. This has occurred several times over the last 6 months. While braking, I could hear a grinding noise and a spring popping. I only had approximately 25 percent braking power. The problem would go away after I turned the vehicle off and back on. Searched the internet and found the problem to be quite common and the fix to be quite simple: just take it into the dealership with fault code c1179 and TSB ntb06-040 and have them reprogram the vdc. I did so. The dealership told me that my Armada did show fault code c1179, but that my vehicle already had that latest software so my problem is likely not fixed. $68 to update nothing and the dealership has left me to continue driving the unsafe vehicle without providing a fix. I want Nissan to correct this issue before someone is killed. A search of the internet shows that numerous Armada owners have had the same problem. Spoke with Nissan corporate (david at 866-799-1690 x1476) but he too failed to acknowledge the deficiency and acted as though my issue was 1 in a billion despite overwhelming complaints by Nissan Armada/titan owners. Nissan has got away with essentially ignoring this serious safety issue.
I own a 2005 Nissan Armada and on at least 4 occasions my brake light has come on while driving. When I apply the brakes they make a grinding noise and the vehicle vibrates and the brakes are not effective. So far I have not had anyone in front of me nor have the traffic lights been red. If they had I would have been involved in an accident. I have had to coast to the edge of the road or turn into a parking are. When I turn the vehicle off and re-start it the problem disappears. I went on line to a web site listing problems with the Armada and find that mine is not the only one doing this. I think you need to recall these vehicles as there is something wrong. I know you wont as in my opinion most of you worthless government employees are useless and don't give a damn about the safety of the citizens of this country. Last happened October 10th 2010.
On a 2005 Nissan Armada this issue was previously reported under complaint #odi id number : 10339985. A summary of the problem:the issue/problem: the brake light comes on. When brakes are used, there is decreased braking power. The brakes make a crunching, springy noise with the pedal being extremely soft until it gets closer to the floor and begins to give braking power. When ignition is turned off, the problem resolves at least temporarily.
Nissan 2005 Armada 4x4, 50 k miles. 94 degrees sunny weather in rancho cordova, brakes completely failed in the lowes parking lot. There was some grinding noise but no forceful grip of the rotors. Brake light came on. I slowly pulled over into a available parking slot, turned off the vehicle turned it on again in 2 minutes and the problem disappeared. . Read more...

When driving to work and going over a speed bump the brake light came on. The brake pedal went to the floor. I then started to feel the brake pedal vibrating, as if the abs had kicked on. This has happened several times. I proceed to pull to the side of the road and turned the ignition off. I learned that by doing so the computer resets itself and it goes away. I am concerned about this problem. I tow three quads in the weekend to have some fun, but I don't want to get into an accident when going down a hill on the way to my destination. I also carry my kids and that is my main concern. I have took it to the dealership and they don't see anything wrong with it? they could not duplicate because it doesn't happen often. I suggest checking the 05 on a downhill, that always seems to cause it to happen?.
When traveling back from washington d. C. In heavy traffic I looked at the speedometer of my 2005 Nissan Armada and noticed my brake light was lit up on my dash area. When I tried to apply the brakes I had very minimal braking power approximately 20-30% at best. This became a very serious and scary situation when we realized we were heading into a traffic jam! I was able to ride on the shoulder and apply the brakes until we were able to stop but by no means did I have the braking capability that we should have. The braking system seems to fix itself when you turn the ignition off and restart the car however this doesn't fix the problem. Unfortunately the vehicle doesn't provide a code when it is restarted. When I was finally able to drive my vehicle to a service station they provided me with a code to give to my Nissan dealership. After doing a little research I was astonished to find how many Nissan owners were having the same issue and how the dealership can not really fix the problem. This has happened multiple times since our 1st incident back in 2009 and it is extremely scary. I have read other peoples complaints on the internet of the same issue and Nissans supposed fixes that end up not working and costing people hundreds of dollars. I simply want to be able to drive my vehicle without fear of my brakes going out and putting myself, children and others in a dangerous situation. Nissan needs to come up with a solution and fix the problem ASAP because if had I not been able to pull off on to the shoulder or off into a gas station when this happens with no warning it could result in injury or possibly death. I am about ready to go to the news with this story because Nissan is not fixing the problem nor is there a recall for the issue. This can cause great injury or worse death if not handled correctly and soon.
In the most recent incident, I was driving the vehicle at slow speed (approx. 10 mph). When brake pedal was depressed, it went to the floor and the nose of the vehicle dove down. Front brakes made a loud banging sound and vibration could be felt in vehicle cabin. There was a considerable reduction in brake performance, to the point of failure. Brake light in vehicle illuminated as well. These same symptoms have occurred at various speeds, under various driving conditions more than a dozen times over a period of one year. Vehicle was taken into local dealer today and a full description of the problem was provided. Dealer re-programmed vdc (code 1179) at a cost to me, but would not guarantee this would permanently fix the problem. If problem persists, dealer recommends delt stroke sensor/brake booster replacement at considerable cost to me. At higher speeds, this condition could be deadly.
3/28/2006 when braking there is intermittently a pulsation,75% decreased braking ability, brake light on. Braking decrease is a hazard! : dealer found steering wheel shakes when braking. Installed updated brake kit & brake judder bulletin. Still occurring every once in a while . . . Once ever several months, but cannot reproduce exact symptoms at dealer. 10/20/2008: when braking there is intermittently a pulsation, decreased braking ability, brake light on. Symptom appeared and stopped at local mechanic. He tested car, but symptoms disappear when car shut off and restarted. Dealer found no codes present. Not able to reproduce problem. Performed TSB 06-040 and advised it may not fix problem. Software updated and problem seemed to be resolved until 6/25/2010: when braking there is intermittently a pulsation,75% decreased braking ability, brake light on. Braking decrease is a hazard! reading about same problem in forums without a good solution. Hate to be a death or injury to get this problem noticed. Will take back to the dealer, but expect the same "not sure it is fixed" response.
Brake light comes on the dash board, push brakes and it makes this grinding noise and the brakes lose most of their power. After I put the car in park, turn off engine and turn it back on light goes off. The first time it happened was in 2010. . It started happening again in 2013 a couple of times and now it does it all of the time in 2014. I have two children and a lot of the time have multiple kids in the car that do not belong to me. It is a very scary thought that the brakes will just stop working. I just got new brakes around 6 months ago and has been happening a lot more since than. I will take my car to the mechanic again and need be file every complaint with whoever I can to get this issue resolved. I have read many, many forums about people having this exact problem. . Why hasn't Nissan recalled this issue??? someone is going to die!!!.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada le. The contact stated that while applying the brakes, the brake pedal was abnormally depressed into the floorboard. The emergency hand brake was engaged and the vehicle was shut off. The vehicle resumed normal operation once restarted but the emergency brake warning light was illuminated. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.
I'm driving less than 5 miles in the school parking lots and all suddenly my brakes make a loud noise and the brake lights turn on. I had to turn my car off and turn it back on. This is unsafe for my family while this incident happened, my daughters were in the car with me. I was afraid for the life of my daughters. This incidents regarding the brake happened to me more than 5 times already. Nissan should had this recall. I had my mechanic check it out, he gave me a code c1179 delta stroke sensor signal fault meaning the brake booster and abs unit .
Last week we vacationed in gatlinburg, tenn. . . At our family reunion in the mountain at a chalet . . . . . I purchased my 2005 Nissan Armada and it had 50000 miles on it inapril. At 53000 I was descending the mountain and in my opinion not riding the brakes, although I delayed into shifting in to low. The grade on the descent was very steep and all I remember is the brake light and a loud noise coming from the front end of the vehicle and a gradual then dramatic decrease in my brakability. I was shaken and pulled over. In a couple of minutes I proceeded a little more and found the brake to almost disappear. I luckily found a driveway on an incline and pulled up and put it in park. I sat and wondered what to do because I was in such a dangerous mountain curve that was difficult to get help in. When I calmed down, I called my brothers to help me and let them know my location. When I saw a chance I put the vehicle in reverse and backed up, putting the Armada in drive to reach a pull off point going uphill. I shut the Nissan off and got out and waited. After a half an hour my brothers showed up and drove the vehicle without any problem. They told me I just rode my brakes and needed to let them cool off, but I thought they were right until I received this list of complaints and hear the same symptoms I experienced. . . . . I will watch for this again and since we have a 6000 lbs family trailer we haven't use yet -I am eager to get the solution. Nissan needs to troubleshoot this problem and resolve the computer glitch before someone gets killed. I am a experienced school bus driver and an off road lover and I was able to handle the situation. . . . . . . I would not like an inexperienced driver to have the same situation. I had no parts replaced because my family convinced me I was at fault and rode the brakes heating them up, and I just had new brakes before we left on vacation.
I have a 2005 Nissan Armada. I was driving and starting to brake when all of a sudden my brake light came on and a loud grinding noise was heard from the front of my Armada. I almost lost braking capability. I applied the brakes again and the same thing happened with the loud noise and limited braking ability. I pulled over on the side of the road, turned the vehicle off and restarted the truck and the problem was gone for that moment. A few weeks later, it happened again, so I took it into the Nissan dealer and they told me it was a code error and it had been reset (it was still under warranty then). Well, it has since happened about 10 more times. I had my husband take it to another Nissan dealer and they told him it was the brake booster, and would cost approximately $900 to fix. We did not pay the money to have fixed. The last incident was this morning with my two small daughters in the truck with me. I was in 3 lanes of traffic and was starting to apply the brakes, when the brake light came on and the vdc light and two other panel lights. This morning, it was the worst it had been since it started. I normally have a little bit of brakes, but this morning when I tapped the brakes, it brought the vehicle to a complete sudden stop in 3 lanes of traffic, then, I let off the brake and tried to ease up and reapply the brakes and it brought it to a complete stop again. I turned the truck off and it cleared itself. I called my husband and told him. Once I got to work, I started to do some research and I find that I am not the only person experiencing this problem! I count myself lucky this morning that I was not rear ended because I had my two small daughters in my truck with me!!!! Nissan needs to do something about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
I have a 2005 Nissan Armada, and when I drove the SUV and suddenly I heard the brake make a grinding loud noise and the brakes locked in. Then the brake light turns on and the master cylinder for the brake system just locked in. I was driving 15 miles in the parking lot. I then changed the brake fluid and master cylinder. The brakes still locked in.
