1 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 12/05/2011

While backing up from park position front brakes make a low groan or rubbiing sound like the calipers are not releasing properly. Have had in in the dealer twice, once they put molycote grease on the pads, then they replaced the pads and turned rotors all done with less than 5,000 miles, still has the problem. Also seems like once you brake and come to complete stop and start again takes alot of power to get going like there is a drag on the front end. Also rotors a very hot.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/07/2011

Braked hard to avoid collision with deer crossing highway and vehicle did not stop quickly as expected. Due for disc brake pad replacement in the future and this incident prompted a check of brake components. Discovered left and right rear axle seals, pinion seal and rear differential cover leaking differential fluid. Rear brake calipers, brake pads, parking brake assemblies and rotors were covered with differential fluid. Entire rear differential assembly overpressurized due to faulty, poorly designed oem check relief valve, resulting in failure of all seals. Same concern as in service bulletin ntb-10-008. Same problem with Nissan Frontier, exterra, titan and armada models. Nissan admits that fluid from the rear axle leaking onto the brake pads is a concern, but will not address why the axle seals are failing at an alarming and premature rate. A recall is needed for Nissan to take responsibility for their design flaw. All fluids personally changed out at 66,680 miles on 8/25/2011 and there was no evidence of leakage anywhere at that time.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/30/2011

Left rear axle seal failed and grease from axle coated caliper and brake disc, rendering braking ineffective on that wheel. This is a known issue with Nissan with a technical service bulletin (ntb100008) issued, but Nissan only selectively applies the repair. Grease coating the brake appears visually the same as brake dust, and owner's manual requires inspection of seals only every 7500 miles, so braking may be lost for a considerable period of time before discovery. Serious accident was narrowly avoided on 10-14-2011, ironically on return from dealer, when car ahead stopped in lane to turn left; hard braking and swerve into right lane avoided collision but truck stopped with front grill at same point as front seat in the stopped car.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

The consumer stated the left front caliper would seize. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they replaced the front pads and turned the front rotors. When the consumer took the vehicle for a tire rotation, it was discovered all four rotors needed to be replaced. The consumer believed the problem was due to contaminated brake fluid. Updated 02/14/11.

5 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Weak clutch 2009 Nissan Frontier se 4x4 4. 0 litre, 6 speed man transmission. 10,331 miles and clutch slips in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and little no engagement in reverse. Slips on sudden acceleration. Manufacturer always blame customer's on fault. Truck was not abused by me. Manufacturer is not admitting failure. If you search for Nissan Frontier clutch problems on the internet, you will see, that the same powerplant belongs to a 2006 Nissan xterra and at 13,000 and the 24,000 this person had to replace the clutch as well as slips. 2nd issue, the brakes assembled on my truck were missing on both left and right side front brake pad retainer springs. Brakes pull right and damaged rt rotor. Required machine shop to repair lateral out of round. Possible cause is missing lower retainers springs and now developed into sticking calipers. 3rd issue. Rattle noise from suspension area on uneven road surfaces or manhole lids at slow speeds. Unable to locate cause with suspension both loaded and unloaded. Have used even rubber mallet to no avail.

6 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 12/22/2008

I have a 8 month old Frontier Nissan vehicle , with just 1 service on time everything - the failure I got a loose nut on the rear brake caliper - while I was driving downhill on a mountain with snow - lost all brake fluids and brake systems just went hard to work and not a uniform brake. To correct I went to dealer and they said they just re-torque the nut and that's it.

7 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/27/2007

Tl - the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that the front calipers seized and as a result, the brakes failed. The contact stated that he replaced the calipers, brake pads and rotors on each side twice prior to the recent failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 24,000 and current mileage was 72,000. Kmj.

8 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 10/07/2006

The left rear brake assembly bolts fell out and the caliper flopped off the disc.

9 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/08/2003

The brakes on my Nissan Frontier s/c are not able to stop the vehicle loaded much less than unloaded. Since it was new it has a soft pedal that requires varied pressures, despite similar conditions. To bring it to a stop and or slow it down. I have complained to Nissan and the dealer. The dealer service manager told me that this is the way "they are" and that they have tried everything that they can do but this is all they can do to the system. Nisssan headquarters want me to, and I am, take it to another dealer to see if it is normal. My feeling is that it is "normal for the vehicle" but not safe nor acceptable. There is no way that they will fix a "normal' vehicle, though it does not meet a safe standard for stopping, compared to the many cars that I have owned in the past. I am not saying that it will not stop. I am stating that it is not consistent and it seems like it will not stop in many different types of conditions. The problem is that there is little feel and/or control and this is an accident hazzard. I have an appointment with another Nissan dealer next Tuesday to see if there is any thing that can be repaired or if this is "normal". I don't believe that there is an answer to my problem, that does not involve larger rotors and calipers and a redesign of the master cylinder. Infact, I was told last time I was there, by the service manager that the system has been redesigned for the new model year. This is not my rationale for complaining, as I was totally unaware of this new design, however I do applaud their reengineering.

10 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2001 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/05/2003

I have a 2001 Nissan Frontier that the right inner pad is worn to the sensor. The disc pad is wearing at noticeable angle from leading edge to trailing edge. The other pads are wearing normally. The truck also has a severe brake pull to the right. The pull is worse when hot. The car is undriveable at this time. The car will swith lanes when the brakes are applied. As an ase certified auto technician I believe the cause is the use of phenolic caliper pistons. Phenolic pistons are known to cause brake pulls, locked up brakes and uneven pad wear.
