1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/24/2020

While driving and attempting to stop at a stop sign the brakes became spongy (not firm) and pedal traveled to the floor resulting in longer braking distances unless I pump the pedal. This occurred after applying the brakes ahead of a stop sign as the vehicle rolled over a bump/irregularity in the road. The abs and vdc (anti-slip) activated briefly then the pedal got soft. It remained in this condition (spongy and excessive pedal travel) until reached my destination. The first instance of this occurring the brake system seemed to correct itself with the vehicle parked and ignition off overnight (good pedal firmness and normal pedal travel and braking distances the next morning). However, after a second time this happened (brake gets soft after abs and anti-slip activates) the spongy and long pedal travel remains. Replaced master cylinder and bled system (used motive power bleeder) did troubleshooting on brake booster, booster vacuum line and check valve and all checked fine. Inspected brake lines for bulges, damage and looseness at all calipers all ok. All pads and rotors checked good (no excessive wear or missing parts). Also, disconnected battery to see if the abs/vdc system resets. No change to brake pedal travel and spongy feel. Brake problems as described still remains.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/21/2017

The brake pedal lost all pressure and brakes did not function properly immediately after hitting some small bump in the road. This caused a collision with the car in front of my vehicle. Even after vehicle was repaired following this collision, master cylinder replacement, and full brake service, this issue still persists. Small road bumps make the brakes momentarily non-functional.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

While applying my brakes in traffic while not moving very fast I hit a bump in the road and lost full pressure to my brake pedal it went to the floor and the truck jump to the right hand lane the some thing happened to weeks ago - the master cylinder was replaced at that time - the 1st time the pedal did not come back to full - but on 6/23 after an hour or so the pedal pumped back up (2011 Nissan Frontier).

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Truck total mileage is only 55,000 as it is not used very much. 3 issues occurred approx. At 49,000miles. 1) engine started to miss. Upon checking spark plugs it was discovered that the plug cavities in the head were full of oil. The valve cover gasket seals had leaked and the oil filled spark plug holes caused it to miss. This is not covered under warranty so repairs were done at my cost. Had to replace all of the top end valve cover gasket and spark plug hole seals as well as the cam end seals. 2) one day I got into the truck and when I started it up and pressed the brakes the pedal went to the floor. Upon checking the brake master cylinder reservoir it was empty. Found that the rear axle brake line had rusted through and had burst spraying brake fluid all over the spare tire. I have never seen a brake line develop a hole like this. Not covered under warranty and a new brake line and master cylinder was replaced at my own cost . The system had to be bled out and flushed at all 4 wheels. I was very lucky that this did not occur while driving as a crash would have resulted. 3) currently having an issue with the "check engine light" coming on. The code says that it is a emission issue. With the computer code reader I am able to cancel the code and it stays off for a while but comes back on days later. The code is a leaking gas cap but I can detect no leaks and have changed out the cap with an oem cap with same results. Truck runs okay so I have not dug any deeper on this and it is still occurring. 4) while under the truck fixing the brake line issue I discovered that the drive shaft was completely covered with rust. It was never painted from the factory. I had to remove it to kill the rust and paint it with a good coat of black heat proof paint. Corrosion seems to be an issue with these Nissan vehicles.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

Left work about 4 days ago at night when I was driving on the highway and the truck cut out on me(no gas pedal) so I look down at the voltage gauge and its reading about 10v. . . . . So I thought to myself "ok well maybe the alternator finally went after all the [xxx]I put it through. " went to pull over and here is where it gets weird, I went to hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor, I coasted to the slow lane and turned my acc. Off and got it back home safely. Long story short I tested the alternator and battery, both of which were shorted/old/dead. . . . Replaced both at the tune of $191 for the alternator and $70 for the battery. Now, I hooked everything up today. Started the truck. . . Volt gauge is back at 10v. . . Then I see a small amount of smoke from under the hood, shut the truck off to find that the brake lines going from the master cylinder to the abs module are smoking. . . And the lines leaving the module are as well. I cooled everything down, went inside to grab a drink (4-5 min) and came back out and the truck was completely dead. . . Unhooked the battery and put it on a trickle charger for now. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

2008 Nissan Frontier. Consumer states problems with braking system the consumer stated steady pressure on the brake pedal caused loss of position and eventually sinking toward the floor. Sudden stops did not have firm brake pressure on the brake pedal. The dealer replaced the master cylinder, but the problem continued. The second repair attempt was to replace the booster pump, but to no avail.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/25/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Frontier. He stated that his vehicle was purchased in November 2008. While driving approximately 35 mph and engaging the brake pedal it extended to the floor until he heard metal to metal. The vehicle stopped; however, the vehicle accelerated when the accelerator pedal was engaged. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that they couldn't duplicate the problem. The vehicle was taken to an independent facility where they stated that vehicle had a leak in the master cylinder. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was 200. The current mileage was 13600. Updated 03/12/10. Updated 09/21/10.

9 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that when depressing the brake pedal, the pedal would seem loose and extend to the floorboard. The failure was intermittent when in traffic and when the contact was braking a lot. The dealer replaced the master cylinder but the failure continued. The failure mileage was approximately 1,500 and the current mileage was approximately 28,000.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2001 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/09/2005

While driving at 4:30 am on July 9th, 2005, my wife experienced a momentary brake faluire while exiting a frewway ramp at anthem way in anthem, az wjile traveling about 65 mph. The brakes restored themselves prior to a stoplight at the off-ramp of anthem way and I-17. I have experienced this on a few occaions, but thought it was just my imagination. I have not sought recourse from the dealer, even though the vehicle is under an extended warranty, as I realize that they have to reproduce the problem, which does not manifest itself that often. I believe having been in fleet mangement for 25+ years, that it may be a faulty brake valve. Also I am a member of nafa. There was not any accident.

11 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2002 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/08/2003

The brakes on my Nissan Frontier s/c are not able to stop the vehicle loaded much less than unloaded. Since it was new it has a soft pedal that requires varied pressures, despite similar conditions. To bring it to a stop and or slow it down. I have complained to Nissan and the dealer. The dealer service manager told me that this is the way "they are" and that they have tried everything that they can do but this is all they can do to the system. Nisssan headquarters want me to, and I am, take it to another dealer to see if it is normal. My feeling is that it is "normal for the vehicle" but not safe nor acceptable. There is no way that they will fix a "normal' vehicle, though it does not meet a safe standard for stopping, compared to the many cars that I have owned in the past. I am not saying that it will not stop. I am stating that it is not consistent and it seems like it will not stop in many different types of conditions. The problem is that there is little feel and/or control and this is an accident hazzard. I have an appointment with another Nissan dealer next Tuesday to see if there is any thing that can be repaired or if this is "normal". I don't believe that there is an answer to my problem, that does not involve larger rotors and calipers and a redesign of the master cylinder. Infact, I was told last time I was there, by the service manager that the system has been redesigned for the new model year. This is not my rationale for complaining, as I was totally unaware of this new design, however I do applaud their reengineering.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 1998 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/08/1999

Two incidents of brake failure. The first time about a month ago when the brakes failed, they did engage and started working after pumping them several times. On June 8, 1999 the brakes failed again even after pumping them and putting the brake pedal all the way to the ground, and the vehicle ran into a fence in order to stop. A police report was taken at the site, and both police officers agreed that there were no skid marks and in fact this could be a master cylinder problem. The truck was towed to a body shop and repaired (approx. Cost $4000. 00). West valley Nissan in glendale and pinnacle Nissan in scottsdale both examined the vehicle and stated that they did not note any failures in the brake system or master cylinder. It was stated that mr. Moore, a Nissan representative, inspected the vehicle with the same report. There has been no explanation on why the brakes did not work! this is not the first incident but the second! both the police and a service advisor at pinnacle Nissan explained that the master cylinder can in fact work intermittently. My biggest fear is putting this vehicle back on the road and driving at a speed that I will not be able to stop safely and could either cause excessive property damage, injury or death. What I don't understand is that I purchased the extended bumper to bumper warranty on this vehicle. Why don't they just change out the master cylinder instead of the possibility and liability of another accident. At this moment the vehicle is still at the pinnacle Nissan dealer because I refuse to put the vehicle back on the road.
