8 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/18/2010

Unintended acceleration 3 times, each more violent then the first time, of a new 2006 Nissan Maxima, only 26,000 miles on it, this is the 3rd. Time it has happened, on sept. 18, kahului, maui. Terrifying, I could not stop the car at the stop sign of intersection, this was the worse of the past two accelerations that I had with this car. My husband was with me on the passenger side of car. It took off like a "race car" I could not break it or stop car from going. Had to pull the keys out and put in neutral, then reverse to get it to stop. ! took it to the dealer, jimfalk, the service dept. Could not find what is wrong, kept car for a week, driving it to "recreate" the problem, but it seems to do it after so many months, not back to back, something triggers it off it seems. We are stuck with his car now, it is dangerous to drive, as the problem cannot be found. Nissan sent a independent investigator to maui to check the car out, Nissan headquarters in tennessee said it will take 6-8 weeks to get a answer back to us, meanwhile we are stuck now with a rental car bill as our warranty onlycovers a loaner if there is a problem with the cars to be "fixed" and so far, the problem annote be found, so we are up the creek so to speak and technically have to wait for another "acceleration" to take place in which event we could be killed. What can we do? we have rights! some one must be able to find this death feature in our car! help!.

Failure Date: 10/07/2004

While stopped for 30 seconds at a red light my 2002 Nissan Maxima se suddenly accelerated (4000-5000 rpms) and surged forward. My foot was on the brake pedal only. I applied full pressure to the brake and applied the emergency brake. The engine revs dropped down and increased two additional times. When the revs dropped for the third time I quickly put the car into park and shut off the engine. When I turned the car back on the engine ran normally. I was very fortunate that there was adequate distance between myself and the car in front of me. I took the car to a Nissan dealer the same morning and no trouble codes or stored data was found in the computer. Nissan headquarters told me a factory rep will come to diagnose my problem only if the car is involved in an accident.

14 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2001 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

I bought a 2001 Nissan Maxima brand new in June 2001. One day while driving in 2004 I experienced sudden acceleration and the engine racing. It did stop after a few seconds but I took it immediately to my neighborhood car mechanic. He couldn't duplicate the problem but found a defective air pollution part and replaced it. The next day, while waiting to take a left turn at an intersection, the engine suddenly raced again and with me practically standing on the brake we slid across the intersection headed towards oncoming traffic. Luckily people slowed enough for me to slide across the intersection with rubber burning, engine whining, etc. A few seconds later it stopped. I was only about a mile from the dealer that I had purchased it from so I immediately drove there and pulled into the service dept. Area. I explained the problem and they told me that they couldn't look at it today but come back tommorrow. I said that I wasn't about to keep driving it with this problem and they said that I could park it in their lot and they will look at it tommorrow. I said "you can park it in your lot, I'm not driving it. " the next day they called and said it must be something with the onboard computer and they would have to change it, cost $1100 not under warranty. What could I do? so of course I did it and complained but it appears to have fixed it since it hasn't happened again. I still own it.
