1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/17/2020

The passenger occupant sensor failed, I was in a auto accident that required my front bumper, ac condesor and radiator to br replaced. After getting it fixed I noticed my seatbelt light was blinking, I thought maybe it would go away. I got it scanned turns out the passenger occupant sensor went out and caused all the airbags to turn off.

2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/07/2018

The front passenger airbag (off) light stays lit on the passenger dash, even when there is an adult in the seat, and a separate one is on the driver's dash panel. Was told it probably was a sensor in the seat and would cost about $1600. It stays like that and never changes. Nissan wants money just to take a look.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

I was driving on the interstate where it started to rain and I hydroplaned slightly, so I let off the gas and recovered to a stop. The side curtain airbags then deployed due to a "tilt angle" being sensed, while all four tires were still in contact with the ground. The vehicle had no impact, no tilt, and no damage to the vehicle. I was able to continue and drive the vehicle home with the airbags taped to the ceiling. The car was then subsequently driven to the dealership approximately 50 miles away with no issue. I submit the vehicle to Nissan to analyze why the airbags deployed, and information was pulled from the edr. All I was told was the airbags deployed within an allowable time from a "tilt angle" being recorded. When questioned, the representative could not tell me how long that allowable timeframe was, why a tilt angle was recorded when all four tires were still in contact with the ground, and could not tell me if the sensors that send data to the edr were functioning correctly (but I could pay to have my own diagnostics run). Also, according the the edr report, in the "pre-crash" information before the event occurred, it showed the vehicle had already come to a full stop prior to the event. I have had previous minor electrical issues with the vehicle related to the radio and mileage tracking resetting themselves, which I had related to Nissan during the investigation, as well as the driver side automatic window falling open in the track when I shut the door. This investigation has taken two months, without any effort on Nissan's part to contact me with any updates. The dealership was also told not to touch the vehicle to even think about repairs, during which time I am still expected to make payments on a vehicle I don't have in my possession.

Multiple complaints about this same problem. I have children I have to bring to school daily. Please add recall for Nissan Maxima 2009 models as well. This is a huge safety concern.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

The passenger airbag sensor light comes on intermittently, meaning airbag is off, when someone is sitting in the seat and the car is in motion; the light also randomly comes on when no one is sitting in the seat, then it goes off for a while. This has been happening for over a year and I keep checking for a recall. I talked to the dealer and they said a recall would be coming out in March 2016, but it's July and there is still no recall. I am astounded that I am put in a position to have an adult child of mine in the passenger seat riding with me when they would not be protected by the airbags that I trusted Nissan to provide and keep in operational condition in my car. Fortunately, I have not had an accident yet.

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

While driving with an adult over 120lbs in the front passenger seat, airbag sensor would intermittently go off--signaling the airbag had been disabled (as if a child was in the seat). This occurred several times during a drive, and did not seem to correct itself.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Since I bought my car in may 2013 I have noticed several times that with or without someone in my passenger seat my air bag sensor will light up showing that the air bag is off no matter how I or the person in the seat moves it will not come on. The air bag just remains turned off. This is a huge safety concern for me I just found out how to file a complaint about it in hopes of getting it fixed. I know there are recalls on many Nissan makes and models for this but the 2012 Maxima is excluded.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

Since the purchase of my Nissan Maxima, the front passenger air bag sensor has been sensitive. It lights up indicating that the air bag is not engaged when I sit in the seat. I am a 125 lb woman. There is no indication of minimum weight to activate the airbag in the manual. This has been an ongoing problem since we purchased the car 2 1/2 years ago. We have taken it to 2 different dealers to check out the problem. They say there is no problem but I can't believe the car wasn't designed for a grown woman to sit in the front seat.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

My airbag module sensor light was activated , it has been flashing and becoming very annoying. I recently purchase my used 2008 Nissan Maxima 3 months ago. I went to the dealer, got a diagnostic check done and was advised it would be $915 to replace the module because I exceeded the 3/36 warranty. I feel this is a safety issue and Nissan should be held responsible for fixing the faulty equipment.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I was involved -- in front end car accident with my 2010 Nissan Maxima. The accident resulted in a severe damage to the front end of my car all the way to the cars engine. I was surprised that the drivers air bag did not activate under the impact. I towed my car to the Nissan dealer and I spoke with their shop mechanics, he was also surprise that the airbag did not activate and he suggested the airbag frontal sensors might be defected. He referred me to Nissan manufacture department. After contacting them, a representative emailed me an air bag manual. Im really worried about the safety of my family and myself driving a defected car. I would appreciate it if you advise me to what to do. Thank you.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/19/2007

My 1999 Nissan Maxima se had one coil replaced in 2003. This year I replaced the alternator as well. My airbag light flashes constantly and my clock goes in and out of service. My service engine soon light came on and the car runs very rough. When idling it sounds like a choking piece of crap and on the hills the light flashes. I was told I had a bad coil again and took it for a diagnostic that said multiple misfire and replace all six coils. I have read complaint after complaint about coils. When I bought my Maxima new I thought I was buying a car that was reliable but I am hearing that coil replacement is the rule not the exception. I also have rear brake noise. . . . Since year three of owning the car. I have replaced two sets of brake pads as well.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/02/2006

I have a 99 Nissan Maxima se and I wish I had known about this website before purchasing. After reading the multiple and consistent complaints regarding the flashing "airbag" and "check engine soon" lights, I can't believe there has not been a recall. The defects reported are the same on each individual 99 Maxima listed. My vehicle has 90,000 miles on it, no wrecks, regular maintanence as recommended and have spent way too much money on repairs for sensors, cylinder failure and now the airbag malfunction! the service folks want $600. 00 to fix that. I have read the technical notices that went out and obviously the defects were not corrected on the cars whose owners are filing the complaints now. I also have a 1993 Maxima with 217,000 miles on it. I have now spent more money in repairs on the 1999 that I have had for 2 years than I ever did on the 1993 in the entire 13 years I have owned it! the 1999 model obviously has some serious failures. Again, review the technical notices! Nissan needs to step up to the plate and do the right thing. If not a recall, then at the very least take care of the ones here who have taken their time, energy and money and fix the defects at Nissan's expense. If not then I'm with the guy whose next purchase will be a Honda or a Toyota!.

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/13/2005

A week after the air bag light was flashing I took the car to the dealer to get it check. They told me that the right air bag module needs to be replaced. The extended warranty that I got when I bought my car a year ago did not cover this type of repair. I would have to come up with $500 to replace the air bag. The car has not been in an accident therefore I consider this a defective part on Nissan.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1997 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/22/2004

While driving our vehicle on the interstate, my son rear-ended a Ford winstar van. He believes that he was going approximately 60 mph and was able to brake to some extent before hitting her rear bumper. Fortunately no one was injured. However there was extensive damage to the front of the Maxima. This included the front bumper, grill, radiator, hood and other components that I was unable to assess. However our body shop and insurance company felt that the cost of repairs exceeded the value of the vehichle such that they "totaled" the car. My concern was that with such extensive front-end damage the air bags did not deploy. Nissan seems to think that this was appropriate. How can we determine if this is correct. Please advise. Thank you.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/17/2004

While driving air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dashboard. Dealership indicated that air bag module failed, and the problem still existed. No repair have been made at this time. The vehicle was out of warranty by only two weeks. The manufacturer was contacted for a goodwill service. The dealer was unable to obtain special assistance of even partial coverage of the replacing the air bag module.

24 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/20/2004

Two sucessive air bag disconnect failures on a 1999 Nissan Maxima. On 3/29/03 at 36,834 miles the air bag light came on and I went to the dealer for a diagnosis, the told me the bag circuitry was "open" and the bag would not deploy. They replaced the drivers side air bag module under warranty. On April 20th 2004 at 50,300 miles the air bag light came on again and I went back to the dealer. This time they told me the passenger side air bag circuitry was " open" and the right side module would have to be replaced. Initially ,they told me it was still within the 60 month warranty, subsequent to that statement they have insisted it is out of warranty and I have to pay $422 . My complaint is that a expensive car with only 36,000 miles has a air bag failure and then again at 50,300 miles the opposite side fails again. I am concerned that this is a design flaw and the circuitry could be in the failure mode and the light may not come on or the accident could occur and the air bags not deploy. I think there should be an investigation by Nissan and at least have the warranty extended .
