Takata recall. On 10/24/18 I had the passenger side airbag fixed at the oxnard team Nissan shop. I asked about the driver side airbag, and they said the only one to be taken care of was the passenger side for my car model, is this true? my concern is, as far as I know, the injuries and deaths have been caused by the driver side airbag. Can you clarify this for my peace of mind. Thanks a lot!.

My wife's 2010 Maxima has issues with the airbag sensor in the passenger seat and it doesn't operate correctly. It is the same issue with the 2013 Nissan recalls but that recall doesn't go back far enough. I've contacted Nissan headquarters and they just blew me off. The contact person's name is cody with Nissan consumer affairs and he has yet to contact me by my cell. They keep calling me on my home number and we aren't home most of the time. I've recently called them again this past Friday and the representative said someone will contact me in a few hours. Today is Wednesday September 14, 2016 and still no phone call. I was advised a few weeks ago to take the car to the dealer and get a quote by Nissan hq and call them back with the information. I've done that and now they won't return my calls. Cody's contact number is (615)-725-7675 and MD case # 23718765. Nissan keeps closing my case number and won't address this issue. I just don't want my family put at risk if the passenger side airbag doesn't deploy because of a faulty sensor in the seat. I want Nissan to take care of this problem before something horrible happens. The contact person at the dealership for Nissan is james smith and that number is (512)353-5116. He can verify how much it would cost by the quote he gave us. It's approximately $1,100 to fix. Thanks for your assistance in this matter NHTSA.

The passenger side airbag will not activate when I sit in the passenger seat. I am a 5'4" woman that weighs 125lbs. Our 2015 Nissan altima was recalled for the same issue, only I did not experience the problem in that vehicle or in any other vehicle I ride in as a passenger. Even if my purse, which weighs at least 10lbs, or my dog that weighs 25 lbs sits in my lap, the sensor does not register my weight properly. I feel this issue is due to the sensor not being positioned properly in the passenger seat. I have complained about this issue to Nissan and have 2 case numbers. 22789194 and 23879183. I was instructed to take the vehicle to 2 dealers, which I did. I was informed since there was not an error code on the computer, the airbag was functioning properly. I requested a specialist to come and see my size and further investigate the safety of the Maxima, but my request for further assistance was denied by Nissan and I was advised by them that I would need an attorney for any further complaint. We own multiple other vehicles for our business and I have been a passenger in many rental cars and well as those owned by friends and family. I have not experienced this serious safety issue in any other vehicle and strongly disagree with the service technicians comment that I weigh less than a small child. I have taken pictures on many occasions of the airbag sensor light, including one with my purse on my lap and one with my dog on my lap. This issue happens if the vehicle is moving or stationary. If I lift myself off of the seat and wait for the the airbag to reset, it works for 2 to 3 minutes before it deactivates again. This has been an ongoing problem but I chose a service date for the required field below. I do not feel safe riding as a passenger in my 2014 Maxima as I believe I would be seriously injured in an accident.

I have the same symptoms with my airbag that the 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima has. The passenger side airbag will always turn off when my wife sits in the passenger seat.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Maxima. While operating the vehicle, the passenger side air bag sensor illuminated, which indicated that the air bag was turned off even though the passenger was occupying the front passenger seat. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
Takata recall; according to your website, my driver's side airbag needs to be replaced. (passenger airbag replaced in 2014). When I went to the dealer I was told that it does not need to be replaced. Who is correct? car always registered in georgia.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Maxima. While operating the vehicle, the front passenger side air bag sensor light illuminated, which indicated that the air bags were deactivated although a passenger occupied the front passenger seat. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 30,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Maxima. The contact noticed a crack near the front passenger side air bag on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to repair the dashboard due to it being above the air bag. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.

My passenger side airbag list has been on for a year now. I am worried that if I have a passenger side they may get hurt because the airbag may not work!! it is highlighted the entire time the engine is running.

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Maxima. While driving approximately 35 mph, the front driver side air bag deployed independently without warning. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 147,000.
Driver side airbags deployed after driver side door was shut while parked in driveway. Terrible shaking when going 60mph and especially bad when brakes are applied, which then cause a hard jerk or pull to the right. Wheels were all four bent at the time I purchased the car, but dealer never fixed one thing I listed and he agreed to fix or attempted to fix before the sale. Car was repossessed months later and resold at private auction. The new owners need to be aware of the airbags that are missing. This car obviously was in an accident and does not show up on any vehicle history report but I am unable to prove it. The value of the car at the time of purchase was $4,000. The normal was $6,500 at that time. If I had kept the pos, I'd pay over $21,000 with interest and other fees included. This is fraud. I strongly feel like we're dealing with fraud in this situation, but unfortunately I cannot prove it by myself and no one will help me prove it.

Nothing but problems with 07 Maxima we bought, later repossessed. The steering wheel and the whole front of the car would shake uncontrollably especially when brakes were used. Also wheels (not factory but they were on there when purchased, but asked to replace but never happened) were noticeably bent. And lastly, the front and side airbags deployed after shutting my drivers side door causing my arm to be burned.
Vehicle indicates that the passenger side air bag is on when seat is vacant; off with seat is occupied. The problem does not occur every time, but is a frequent problem. The dealer claims to be unable to diagnose the problem and has deemed the vehicle safe to drive.

Both the driver's side and front passenger side airbags failed at the same time. While there was a recall on many 2007-2008 Nissan models due to airbag issues, the Maxima was not included. The fact that both failed at the same time should point to a manufacturer defect/failure.
Visible cuts on the passenger side airbags started to form on the dash board outlining the shape airbag container underneath. Afraid that this might cause an accidental deploy. Contacted Nissan but they refused to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the passenger side air bag sensor light would illuminate. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

My passage side air bag leather is splitting! I've gone to the dealership where I bought the vehicle, I was told they don't fix it or don't know anyone that will. If they would fix it, the car dealership would be responsible if it did not open! I've asked around no one knows anyone that can repair it. . . Never had an accident in the car.
Takata recall-received a recall notice in the mail from Nissan about a recall on my 2003 Maxima passenger side air bags (NHTSA recall 14v-361). Scheduled an appointment for sept. 26, 2014 @ 3pm to have work done. Dropped vehicle off on the morning of sept 26, 2014 because I had to leave town before the time of appt. I picked my vehicle up later that day from the dealer. On April 15, 2016, I was at work on lunch break in our parking lot and I noticed a light on my dashboard on. I took my Maxima to the dealer to have light checked to find out it was about my airbag. Received an estimate of what needed to be done, total of work needed $1385 plus $90 I had to pay for the diagnostics done. The estimate was for the exact same work that was suppose to have been completed in sept. 2014. I finally had my mechanic fix the exact same problem that the dealership was suppose had fixed and I have not had an issue since.
Takata recall I have had my passenger side airbag replaced but have not been notified if the driver side is necessary to replace.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 3,000.
The passenger side air bag does not activate with my wife in the seat. She is well over the 80 pound limit for activation. Seat was changed but did not change. Dealer service department says there is no fix. This is not acceptable.
The passenger side airbag turns off when either when my husband which is 230lbs and myself 132 lb and some other passengers. Reported this to Nissan brought the car in. The say its working fine. Even when I have video that the airbag has clicked off for long periods of time. This is a major safety issue.
Passenger side air bag intermittently (a lot!) does not have an airbag for 130+ pound person, but does have airbag for 80lb child. Have had to the dealership multiple times, Nissan reports that this is within their specifications; they have dismissed the complaint. I have further reported to Nissan consumer affairs complaint #11108041, but since I've been working on this for a year now, I do not feel confident in their "help".
I'm was driving when my tire popped and my car went across all three lanes, across the median, then across three lanes of oncoming traffic into some woods and hit a tree head on. All side airbags deployed but the front on didn't, which concerns me since I hit a tree head on. The side airbags left bruises on my face and neck injuries.

My complaint is not about a part failing, but in Nissan's response to replace a part. My 2004 Nissan Maxima was involved in a collision where the side airbag deployed. In the repair work, the airbag module needs to be replaced (ordered). The part was ordered on oct. 12, 2011 and after more than two months of the part being ordered, the part has still not been produced by Nissan. First I was told it was a back-order issue, but then I lost my patience after 2 months and called Nissan corporate, I was told that it is a component distribution issue, which tells me absolutely (wait for it) nothing. The most frustrating thing for me is that I am being told that the delivery of the part is indefinite, so my car sits at the collision shop basically in limbo. I have researched and cannot find any recall information for my vehicle relating to this part. From what I have been able to gather, there seems to be an issue with the testing of the part, therefore the part is not being produced. In my opinion this is discreetly being kept quiet and disguised as a back-order issue by Nissan. I see recall issues for this part for the altimas, but not the Maximas. It seems like this is a bigger issue than Nissan is willing to acknowledge. I am trying to find all avenues to make this complaint about this matter and hope that it registers.

New 2011 Nissan Maxima. Passenger side airbags sometimes fail to activate at all or activate only after driving several (12-15) miles with a passenger in the front passenger seat. Situation has occurred routinely since taking delivery of vehicle on 10/14/10. Consequently, front seat passengers are not protected by the airbag system. All passengers have been adults, ranging in size from 95 lbs, 5'2" to 145 lbs, 5'8". Heavier passengers activate the airbags quicker. Selling dealer has examined vehicle and replaced the sear bottom cushion containing the activation device. Old part was retained by dealer. Problem still exists.
After reclining my seat, the supplemental restraint system warning lamp started to blink and has remained blinking ever since. After diagnosing the side airbag module in the seat to be causing the problem. I found a Nissan technical service bulletin, ntb00-043, applying to all 1998-1999 Nissan Maxima vehicles, which states that the side airbag modules for the driver and passenger front seats are to be replaced with new updated ones that replace the side airbag modules and the seat-sub harness that the modules connect to. This is a manufacturing safety defect in the side airbag module's harness. The technical service bulletin states to route the new harness exactly as the old harness was routed, therefore eliminating the possibility of the harness routing in the seat being the cause of the problem. The technical service bulletin states that the side airbag module installed originally in the vehicle consists of a two piece harness; the airbag control module with a short section of wire that connects into a sub harness that is routed through the seat, where it is connected to the supplemental restraint system circuit. The updated side airbag module eliminates the two-piece harness system, repairing the supplemental restraint system fault and therefore eliminating the warning indicator constantly flashing. This requires the replacement of the side airbag modules, which is very costly and this issue creates a major safety issue regarding the functionality of the supplemental restrain system if ever required to be used. In addition, Nissan does not offer the side airbag modules for purchase to my extent of knowledge. After conducting my own research on websites for Nissan Maxima owners, this appears to be an extremely common issue that occurs on the 1998-1999 Nissan Maxima vehicles.

Airbag burn/ injury my car hydroplaned and crashed against center divider on freeway during rainy weather. The driver-side airbag deployed upon crash and caused a bruise and 2nd degree burn to my left arm (inner forearm). The bruise injury was from the impact of the airbag deployment. Additionally, the Nissan logo (decal) on the steering wheel impacted my arm and caused a 2nd degree burn - this burn has now left a permanent scar in the shape of the Nissan logo on my left arm. I noticed that this is a design defect on the Nissan cars their Nissan logo decals are not flush with the steering surface (like other car manufacturers) and hence can severely impact the driver in case of airbag deployment.
The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph a vehicle crashed into her drivers side which caused the vehicle to spin and crash into another vehicle on the passengers side. The side air bags did not deploy. And two occupants were injured. The cause of the non-deployment is currently unknown. She notified the manufacturer of the failure.
I was involved in a 50mph collision with damage to the front and drivers side. Frontal airbags and side airbags failed to deploy resulting in chest injuries, upper torso injuries, and neck injuries. Seatbelts also failed to lock. Have not heard back about why the failure occurred.

I also seem to be having transmission jerk problems with my Nissan Maxima. The car has 100000 miles on it. I get a jerking motion when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd that really hurts my neck. It jerks especially hard when making a turn and the car slows down and picks up speed again. And, in my case it also jerks one day and behaves ok another day. Also the problem seems to happen more with a warmer engine, and is rarely happening when the engine is cold.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. While driving 25 mph, the contact crashed the driver side of her vehicle into the rear end of another vehicle. She stated that only the passenger side air bag deployed. The contact's head struck the steering wheel, which caused her to have a headache. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle to determine the cause of failure. A police report was filed. The current and failure mileages were 70,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. On March 18, 2007 the contact moved the vehicle from the garage to the street with the engine off and the vehicle in park the curtain/side airbags deployed. The vehicle was currently being inspected by the Nissan dealer. The contact was aware of the safety risk involved. The failure and current mileage were 16,000.

Recall-Nissan Maxima alternator ,1998 . Open recall, does not need to be original owner. Before I was informed of recall alternator stopped working (on highway going 55 lucky to be alive)! after repairs were made, car came out of repair shop with air bag light blinking. Took car to Nissan. After paying $100. 00,they informed me side air bags were faulty and they're not sure if front air bags will work properly. After I was informed of recall I brought car back to Nissan, they replaced new alternator with another new alternator and paid me for the first alternator. My claim is that the faulty alternator under a recall notice caused my air bags to stop working. Nissan has informed me it's possible we will look into it. Have not heard anything from Nissan. They did inform me it would cost $1,200. 00 to fix. So now my son is driving the car without knowing one way or the other if the air bags will work. Nissans not sure if fronts will work! Nissan needs to replace air bags at there cost. There product caused the problem.
