Air Bag Light On Problems of Nissan Maxima - part 1

The passenger side airbag light comes on each time my mother is in the passenger seat. It stays lights for periods of time. At times the light goes off, then back on. I have brought it to an automotive repair shop and have notified fidelity warranty services since we purchased the royal protection plan which is still in effect until November 2021. I am afraid that if my mother is in the front seat and the light sensor is not fixed and we are in a front impact accident she will be injured.

Purchased 2017 Nissan Maxima at passport of marlow heights on 3/17/20. Took car to first service at passport on 6/22/20 for oil change & tire rotation. After further issues with my front left wheel and going to sheehy of waldorf for my second service I discovered that passport of marlow heights service advisor did not notify me of "the left wheel stud issue" while purchasing the car and until a week after my initial service visit of 6/22/20. The service advisor at passport reported a incorrect service date of 6/25/20 to cover up the late multi-point "lug nut" notification. On 1/8/2021 2nd scheduled maintenance at sheehy of waldorf, I requested oil change, tire rotate, 4-wheel alignment and balance. Sheehy found: lug nuts were crossed threaded which caused studs to be messed up as well. Sheehy "replaced 2 lug nuts and 2 studs on driver front tire. " for an added amount of $251. 53. I left sheehy of waldorf after my service and as I accelerated, I felt strong vibration at each interval, I returned to sheehy and asked for someone to ride with me. A shop foreman drove my car and he felt the vibration at each interval. The foreman took vehicle back in garage and inspected wheels "& found that the right rear wheel has been welded & the weld has split & cracked. The other 3 wheels have bends in the wheel & out of round" video & photo provided by sheehy. Sheehy also informed that air bag light is took car back to passport to re-inspect wheels/rim/air bag issues they created and after further research I found: air bag recall: report receipt date: Apr 26, 2016 NHTSA campaign number: 16v244000 component(s): air bags - air bags: sensor: occupant classification. Now - passport is stating that my air bag light is on because "rodents have chewed thru my wires in my engine harness. Based on my research passport knew about this issue, dealer didn't disclose accident.

Driver airbag light has been on for two years and dealership states that it will cost thousands of dollars to be replaced and/or repaired. I have researched online and this seems to be a problem with this year, make and model and may be a continuance of airbag issues that were included in a recall prior to this year model. Today, I am unsure as to whether or not the airbags will work properly in the vehicle if it is in an accident.

While on and moving, the passenger air bag on/off indicator light turns on and off, with an adult in the passenger seat. It will turn on (indicating bag off) for several minutes at a time. This occurs with a 150+ pound passenger sitting normally in the seat, with seatbelt fastened. This occurs throughout turns, on straight roads, and at varying speeds. This behavior has been ongoing for years, but I have only now done a search for it. Google searches indicate this is a problem with many 2009 Nissan Maximas. But Maximas prior to 2016 are not recalled.

Condition is present whether vehicle stationary or moving. Investigated by dealer ( courtesy Nissan of richardson, texas) and told that first stage repair ( replacement of front passenger seat cushion) costs ~ $ 2100 with no guarantee of solution, followed by further attempt to solve at additional cost. I believe this is a safety issue to be solved by Nissan. Also reported to Nissan north America but no response.

The airbag light comes on when someone gets into the car on passenger side , then stays on sometimes. As long as the person is in the seat it stays on. When they get out it goes off. I wasn't in any accident. It was like it when I got it.

This has happened on multiple occasions. When driving with my wife (usually my only adult passenger) we have both noticed that the air bag light is on, stating that the air bag is turned off. This seems like it would be a dangerous situation if we got in an accident. This happens when we are driving or just sitting in the car stopped with the car on. Date of incident is a random date as this has happened multiple times.

Blinking airbag light. Blinks all the time. Been doing this for 5 months.

February 2009 I purchase a 2009 Nissan Maxima VIN#1n4aa51e29c. . . . . . . There have been minor issues that I have dealt with. Let me explain, first the motors that move the steering column up/down (warranty covered) and in/out (a $600 estimate) both have gone out. Secondly, the left front tire pressure sensor ($186) was found to be faulty on February 20, 2015 with mileage of 47,859. Thirdly, the front left strut ($142) had to be replaced and both front strut mounts have been replaced ($176), which is a recall for some vehicles but not mine. I'm confused by this but let's move on the biggest problem I'm having with Nissan. Today the only recall on my 09 Maxima has been the escl, which was replaced on July 21, 2017 with 73,429 miles of the car. I immediately noticed a different sound when starting the car. I was told there was nothing they could do about the sound, so I drove the car home. Shortly after, the airbag light on the dashboard started blinking and the passenger airbag indicator came on. On February 19, 2018, my car was taken to a local Nissan dealership to get the airbag system fixed with 76,443 miles on the car. The service department ran a diagnostic report ($95) finding code dct b1018 as a problem. They reported their findings to me and gave an estimate of the repairs to be between $2,000 and $4,000, a big difference. I talked with the service department about what had to be done to fix the airbag system, how much time the repairs would take, why such a wide spread in the financial estimate and what may have caused this problem. I learned a lot from this conversation. The biggest surprise was learning that Nissan changed how their airbag system sensors worked from always on to off until a seat was occupied. I would feel more like a valued customer when Nissan pays 100% of a problem that has been caused by �no fault� of the consumer.

When there is a passenger sitting in the front passenger seat, sometimes the �airbag off� indicator light will go on randomly. I even have video proof of this happening while my girlfriend, weighing 130 pounds, was sitting in the front passenger seat with her seatbelt on. The light would stay on for minutes, sometimes an hour, before randomly turning off. Also, the engines oxygen sensor randomly triggers the �service engine� light as well, I believe it needs to be reprogrammed.

Driver airbag light continues to blink on the dashboard. Dealer states that it is the drivers airbag (diagnosis cost 119 ) which needs to be replaced at a cost of 1100 dollars. They replaced the airbag in 2010. . But now it comes on the car has 87000 miles on it and I have had it since 2009.
