Side/rear Glass Problems of Nissan Maxima

I was driving on the freeway (my normal route home from work). Suddenly, I heard a very loud 'popping' sound. I opened the sliding door to inspect the roof, and found out that the glass had suddenly shattered.

To NHTSA: I am filing a complaint against Nissan car dealership of shaker heights. On October 19th, 2008, I was driving my 2005 Nissan Maxima se on the highway along a straightaway when my skylight moon roof suddenly implode. It was a loud burst causing small microscopic glass particles to scatter throughout my interior. The glass cut my arm and flew in my hair. I believe it may have been due to the slightest possible twisting or torque of the frame bending with the road. The 2004 model of my vehicle recently had a recall due to this exact issue. My vehicle was manufacture in Jan. 2005, I suspect that it was made under the same parameters as the 2004 model. I believe that my vehicle should be covered as well due to the same issue. I have been without transportation since the date of the incident.

Letter concerning the skyview roof glass recall for the 2004 Maximas. ** answer required***. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have the recalled glass replaced but was told that her vehicle was not included in the recall, therefore the glass was not replaced. Eight months later the skyview roof completely shattered while the consumer was driving.

When coming out of an antique shop while the vehicle was parked the glass on the driver's side exploded and shattered. Glass was all over driver's front seat and rear seats. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, who suggested that consumer take vehicle to the nearest dealership to replace the window. Vehicle was previously parked in a garage and the occurrence happened in the morning. It was not very hot outside. After taking the vehicle to the nearest dealership, the consumer was then advised to go to a auto glass repair shop. They determined that nothing had hit the window. The repair cost the consumer $162 dollars. She was concerned that there is a safety defect with her window.

There is an air leak in the rear driver side window. I am worried this is going to consistently get worse and have my window shatter at some point. After reading another complaint of the same problem I felt compelled to file one of my own. I reported this to my dealer and they have not looked into the problem. While in for service, another customer was compalining of the same problem. Every person that sits in the back seat notices a very distinct air leak in this window.

After buying car I noticed an air leak sound coming from the back drivers side window. Before I could bring it back to the dealership the back window completely shattered while driving home one night. The entire back seat was covered in glass. Luckily no one was in the back seat. Serious injury would have occurred. No evidence of an object breaking the window. Definitely a defect with the window.

Vehicle glass has hazy,milky pattern on exterior of glass causing poor visibility during night driving and during rain.
