11 Sun Roof problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/25/2007

On or about the evening of October 23, 2007, I heard a loud boom! as I was driving down the highway. I didn't see anything airborne, or feel any sort of impact. At first I thought someone had blown-out their tire, but there were no cars around us. So I parked and looked at my tires. All all my tires were fine, and there was no sign that anything had hit the body anywhere in the front, rear or sides of the vehicle. However, the next morning it was drizzling, and as I was pulling out, I noticed a small trickle of water coming from the light panel above. It was seeping in from the roof somehow. This was strange, because I don't have a sunroof --only a skyview and that doesn't open. I slid back the roof panels to investigate. As the daylight shined through I was horrified to find the skyview window full of cracks. It looked liked cracked ice which started above the frontseat area, and continued into the backseat area. I immediately called 1-800- Nissan-1 and reported this to customer care rep. Christine basille x. 51276, and told her what had happened. Furthermore, I told her that I had received a recall notice about the skyview with my VIN some years earlier, back in 2004. I was told to contact Nissan whether I had experienced any problems with it or not. I told her that in 2004, I had taken it to the dealer in response to the recall back then. The dealer had kept my vehicle overnight to inspect it, but chose not to replace my skyview saying something like my vehicle didn't appear to be affected. Christine basille told me that a representative would get back in contact with me by Monday. In the interim, I took my car to the dealership for assessment, because my service rep said that he would be able to tell the difference between a warranty issue and damage due to impact. Although, the service dept. Reported that there is no sign of impact, they have declined covering the repair. I still have not heard back from my regional Nissan representative.

While driving on the highway during the night, the glass of the electric sunroof shattered and broke. It was raining, so the roof lining and the sunroof cover got damaged by the water. 17 Sun Roof problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/15/2005

3rd problem with Maxima: purchased 2004 Nissan Maxima brand new. After 2 major problems that I spoke about in two earlier complaints, I am not on #3. In October, 2005, two weeks before my wedding, while my area was getting some rain. I got in my car as usual to begin driving to work, when I noticed a big puddle on my passenger leather seat. My sunroof was leaking. When I called Nissan in huntington, NY, again, I had to wait days before I can get an appointment, even though it was still raining. The dealership verified the sun roof glass seal was leaking and the replaced sunroof glass assembly. They actually gave me a rent a car this time, because I complaint to a manager.

20 Sun Roof problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/27/2004

I was driving to work & I heard and felt a blow and heard air from the outside, and then I looked up and saw my sun roof was shattered. I was freaking out, and drove to the dealership. They knew this sun roof was a recall. I was never notified nor received a letter from Nissan. I had glass, and my arm and my back and my 17 month old daughter car seat had glass all over it, and pieces of glass in it's fabric. I will never put her back in her car seat nor will my family, nor I feel safe ever again. Although the dealership fixed the problem. I do not feel safe!!! I feel Nissan should reimburse me for my baby's car seat, and put me into another vehicle. I will tell my fmaily & friends not to buy this car from Nissan. It's not safe at all!!!.

25 Sun Roof problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/08/2004

Electrical problems; during warranty period and I had to take the car to the dealership numerous times because the driver' s and front passenger's seats quit working and required electrical repairs. The power sun roof also quit working and required electrical repairs during the warranty period. My car was no longer covered by warranty, and power windows have now quit working. I had so many different electrical problems since purchasing the car that I could not help but to think they wereall connected to the same common problem, and it made me wonder what will happen next. Also, during the 2nd year of the warranty period, the battery went completely dead for no apparent reason, and it was not covered by warranty, however, they towed my car to the dealership , early in the morning, and yet had to keep the car over night. I didn't know if repairs to wiring were performed or not, but they didn't admit to any underlying electrical problem, yet they couldn't explain why the battery became dead, or why it required more than 24 hours to replace a dead battery. Were these coccurence's commenly reported for this model year.

Opened the shade for the sky-view glass roof of a 2004 Nissan maxia and glass flew into the car causing the driver to swirve on the highway. Glass cut both passangers hands, arms and face. The sky-view glass roof had apparently shattered. This has been confirmed by the dealer where the car was purchased. This is a sky view roof that does not open. The glass panel runs the lenght of the vehicle. This is not a conventional sunroof that pops up or slide rearward. Consumer brought the vehicle to dealer to be repaired. The shade was closed at the time of the incident. Cw.

30 Sun Roof problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/30/2004

The car started up and was running fine. My wife went back into the house to get our daughter and found the car had stalled. The car has not started since. I am concerned about this situation, because of the fact that the car justed stalled for no apparent reason. I hate to think what could have happened if my wife was driving the car. In addition, according to several post on edmunds. Com this is happening to other consumers. I have had other problems with this car since I purchased it 3-12-03. It has been back to the dealership several times for the following reasons: service engine lights coming on, leaking sunroof, cd not working, a fog/condensation behind center console screen, and interior molding coming loose. I have called Nissan USA and spoke to matt at 310-771-8454 ext 8454. If you can help with this please contact me at 410-239-0119. Thank you for your time and efforts.

31 Sun Roof problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/22/2003

The sun-roof on my 2003 Maxima se would open randomly; once when I was doing 70 mph on the interstate. I took the car to the dealership after the first occurrence and they were unable to duplicate the problem (see "random"). I called after the second occurrence and they still had no formal knowledge of any problem with this equipment. After the 3rd occurrence, when I brought my car in for regular maintenance oil change, I again mentioned it to the service tech. He looked in the technical bulletins and found that this was a documented defect. I was unable to find it on the NHTSA site however, so I thought it was worthy of a conplaint so that others experiencing this problem will know that Nissan is aware of the defect and can replace the malfunctioning component.

33 Sun Roof problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/25/2002

On two occasions (so far) while driving with the sunroof closed, the sunroof has opened by itself. Both times the back of the sunroof opened, instead of the entire panel sliding open. The sunroof switch did work to close it. I have not yet taken the car to the dealership for this defect nor have I contacted Nissan.

34 Sun Roof problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/12/2002

Sunroof opens on it's own and allows rain and wind into car. Jim sigel automotive requested a replacement switch from Nissan. Nissan would not send new one and would not discuss situation with jim sigel texhnician! I e-mailed Nissan twice, asking them to resolve my problem. To date they have not responded to my request. My e-mail was sent to nnacustomeraffairs@Nissan-USA. Com. Jim sigel texh. Took another switch out of another Maxima on the lot and replaced the switch in my car. It appears the switches are both defective. The only recourse I have at this time is to disconnect the moonroof operating gear! this is clearly a satedty situation, due to the integritoy of the roof and the tremendous (unexpected) rushing of wind when the unit opens on it's own. Nissan tech. Would not discuss anything with jim sigel tech, other than there may be a problem in more 2002 Maximas with moonroof than mine. Please contact Nissan and resolve this issue ASAP. Thanks.
