Abs stays on then the (brake warning lamps will immediately come after a short time, the engine will go into a "fall safe" condition which will limit vehicle speed. The engine will stop running and turn off on me. Also my subframe is rotten and is now disconnected the mechanic quoted me $2,600 to repair jus the subfreame.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

While driving the Murano it slowed down and wouldn't go above 20mph. After about a mile it just stopped running & wouldn't crank back up. All the fluids were at the right levels. Took it to a johnny's mechanic shop & they said it was the engine.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2020

While driving down the highway with my infant child the vehicle lost power I could not accelerate went from 75mph to a struggling 5mph. No matter how far I pressed the gas pedal there was no acceleration no revving of engine just complete nothing just pure panic. I was able to pull off to the side of the freeway in a not so safe place however I had no choice. I out hazard lights on and turned off the car. After waiting approx 5 min. I attempted to start car to no avail. The battery light as well as abs light stayed on. I again waited for another 5 -10 min and tried again nothing but same warning lights. I eventually had to wait for approx 45-_60 min when it finally started however I was only allowed to go no fastethan 5 mph. I was able to exit freeway where I parked car for several hours and walked home. Upon retrieving vehicle it still had same results. I drove home @ 5mph. I took car in for repairs and was told I needed a new battery wiring harness. I had that ordered a d repaired. Car drove home just fine however the following day the same incident occurred. Took car back in and was told I needed a new alternator which I replaced. However the following day the same thing occurred. Upon driving car back to a major dealership to notify them of the same problem, however once in their parking lot the mechanic attempted to drive car into the service bay and car wouldn't start. Immediately the mechanic said " OH you hear that clicking sound?" " that's the starter you need a new one". I once again had them service my car and put in a new starter. Yet once again the following day the same problem. In all these occurrences the car had just out of no where with no warning lost power leaving my children and I in a potentially dangerous situation multiple times. The vehicle has been parked in my garage. I can't afford replacing parts just to have the same incident. As far as dates go there were multiple dates that the vehicle stalled on me and had no acceleration.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2020

The car keeps on shutting off on me the motor and was caused a big accident.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

The car slowed all the way down on the freeway . Almost causing me to crash . It did it suddenly I was unable to pull over . I was going about 65 mph while the a/c was blowing it completely malfunctioned.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2015

Engine stopped without warning while driving normally. Multiple incidents while driving straight and when turning at speeds ranging from 5 mph to about 30 mph. Engine restarts after stopping, placing gear selector in park, and turning key to start position.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

As I was coming out of a tunnel driving normally at 55 mph, my Murano jolted and surged it's rpm into the red. This was very dangerous as I was driving with my 3 year old daughter. After going online and seeing that many others have had the same problem but Nissan has not conducted a recall on the cvt transmission. I called Nissan canada today and got no where. They extended the warranty to 10 years or 200 km. Which my car now at 158k and 2014 do not apply. This is completely ridiculous as Nissan is aware of this faulty problem and is just waiting for someone to get killed. She said it wasn't Nissan who makes the rules on recalls but the NHTSA. Which to me is just a cop-out! what company produces a faulty product and refuses to take responsibility for it!.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2014

Coming off exit ramp, stopped and turned left, was going around 25 mph when the car surged forward, accelerated, rpm shot up. I had to slam on the brakes and put the car into neutral. The car then slowed and began driving normally. A week later, my wife and I were on the interstate going around 60 mph when the car slowed down as though it was put into a low gear. We could only get it to go no more that 35 mph. We pulled off on the shoulder and parked. The car would not start again. Had to tow it. About a month later, I was on the interstate going around 65 when the same thing happened as before, it went into a lower gear, lowering my speed to around 30 mph which caused me to almost get hit from behind. Had it been a large truck it most likely would have hit me. I put it in neutral and pulled off to the shoulder. When I pulled out again, it drove at a normal rate of speed. I've taken it to the Nissan dealership and they claimed they couldn't find anything wrong. The internet is full of complaints from Murano owners with the same problems and stating that local Nissan dealerships cannot find the problem and if they do anything, they change out the transmission at a cost to the owner. I just purchased my Murano a few months ago in September of 2014 from a small lot. This is very frustrating for me and my family. Twice we could have very easily been hit from behind. Since this is a problem that's been going on since the first 2003 Muranos, I feel Nissan should order a recall and fix this safety issue before someone is killed.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

I purchased this car from a dealer as a used vehicle in September 2013. After several months I began to notice a very serious transmission problem. All of the sudden when driving the car does not respond to the gas pedal and then all of the sudden the vehicle will lurch forward. This has been scary and unsafe when driving in high traffic areas and I have run the risk of rear ending another vehicle. Other times it has been an extreme safety hazard when entering traffic that is traveling at a higher speed and you have to speed up to merge. If your car does not move when you press on the gas pedal others can crash into you. I have read that other Nissan Muranos that are the same year as mine have experienced the same safety issues and Nissan has received a significant number of complaints with regard to cvt and front transfer case (cracks/fractures) issues but that Nissan has not had a recall to correct this serious problem. I have a three year old grand daughter that I have in my car with me on a daily basis and I am afraid to drive the car! I also purchased this car after another serious accident that totaled my other vehicle and now I have a car that has major safety issues that I am extremely concerned about!!.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

While driving the transmission in the car spontaneously downshifted. As a result of the transmission failure, the engine has had a rod failure. Nissan will not fix the car.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2012

I was driving with my 2kids. . . And my Murano star to loss power. And speed goin up without pushin DE gas. . I was soo scared. . And the engine go completely off. . On the freeway . . Went a try to started don't star. . . I replaced one cam sensor en still the same. . Now I'm no have no more money to fixed . . An I'm stock with the car payment. Without car. . The dealer don't want to help me. . Hu can help me to fix my cat??? look nice . . . But. The motor is a piece a zssssshh. . . :(.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2012

While driving on a major freeway I began to hear my cvt transmission making a loud winding noise that sounded like a turbine engine revving up and then my engine light came on. After I noticed something was wrong, the vehicle went from 65mph to 15mph during extremely heavy high speed traffic and then I was not able to accelerate which brought the vehicle to a complete stop on the freeway. The vehicle constantly does a bunny hop in heavy stop and go traffic which almost caused me to rear end another car because of the sudden surge of acceleration. This has been an ongoing issue since I purchased the car and is now becoming a serious safety issue.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

It was hot outside. I was on a major highway and all of a sudden I was unable to accelerate then the car lost power. I had to have my vehicle towed to a mechanic to find out my fuel pump fuse blew. Since then within a month time my car has lost power twice and abruptly stopped running on a major highway going about 55 mph. Putting myself and kids in a very dangerous situation. After sitting for about 20 minutes the first time and a hour the second time I pumped the gas pedal, turned the key and it started right up. I purchased my 2003 Murano only 4 months ago and never thought I would be here today scared to drive. Nissan needs to take these complaints much more seriously before someone lose their life behind this defect.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

The "service engine soon" warning light has come on several times since I purchased my 2003 Nissan Murano. When in slow traffic or the engine has warmed up, when I press on the accelerator the car will not pick up speed, unless I depress it to the floor board. I'm terrified that I will be hit from the rear while waiting for my to get engine power. Doing my research online I noticed there was a recall NHTSA campaign id # 03v455000) for this exact problem on this year, make and model. I called Nissan with my VIN # and was told that my VIN# was not included in this recall. I'm very frustrated with Nissan at this point. I don't understand how if my car is doing the exact same thing as described in the recall, same year, make & model, why they would take a chance in the safety of me as well as my family. Is there anyone or anything else that I can do in order for Nissan to honor this recall since it was have a direct effect on the safety of my family, myself and other drivers if it was to cause a crash as they describe in their recall.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2011

Vehicle hesitates and does a bunny hop randomly during stop and go traffic. Vehicle won't move at all you can have it floored, than all of a sudden it takes off. Took it to Nissan, they keep telling me its the transmission, which makes no sense since it only does it once in awhile. I finally decided to file a complaint because I was driving home the other day slowed down to get on interstate and car wouldn't go. . . Almost got side swiped by a tractor trailer and rear ended by the guy behind me who assumed I was going. I have done some research, it does not seem like anyone really knows the cause and I am very perplexed as to the number of people having this issue yet no recall. . . I guess someone will have to die for this issue to be taken seriously, usually how things get done in the us.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

I bought this car years 3 years ago in miami and in the beginning I noticed about this problem but I thought that it was a minor problem that I could fix whit the time but I was wrong. If I'm sending this complaint now, is because on my effort to fix the acceleration problem I find this information on the web where it looks that I'm not the only one who has the same problem. The worst part of this began a couple mouths ago when I was getting back from pensilvania with my family on the highway driven around 65 miles and unexpectedly this horrible problem came "the deceleration"from 65 it was getting to 30 miles, it scared me a lot but I considerd myself that I'm a good driver and my first reaction was to let the motor work by itself I didn't toch the speed and the brake and I pull over the car with the emergecy lights I turn it off and I waited 20 minutes and then I turn it on the car again, fortunately it worked after this whitout any problem I thought. I live in new york city and honestly I don't need the car if I bought is just for pleasure to go out the city to vacation and here I find other problem; when you are driving short distances like here in the city you didn't notice about this but the problem it comes when you are driving long distances over 50 miles and then the motor loose power. This problem is getting worse every time when I do the ignition then 5 minutes latter the motor loose power. I change several auto parts on the the engine sistem and the electrical too, I thought that may be the electrical sistem could be the problem a sensor a fusible or something but however I still whitout fix this problem I don't want drive any more this car because I don't know how could be the reaction of the car again on a highway, even I don't want even try to sell it because obviously will be badness to sell at somebody on that condition. Thank you.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

When you come to a complete stop and then press the accelerator down the car does not move initially. If you hold the accelerator down after a few seconds the car will start to move. This has happened 4 times in the last 8 months after driving the car for about 20 mins. I have called Nissan dealership in warner robins, GA but no assistance because the warranty ran out. . . I just purchased this vehicle Jan 2011, they had to put in a brand new transmission a week after I purchased it but I was told months later the warranty ran out so I would have to pay for diagnostic check and this particular Murano was not under the recall for cvt. I find that hard to believe because all the posts I've read regarding this exact same problem received some form of mail regarding a recall of some sort. Today 3/25/12 my car hesitates to start.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2011

Vehicle had new brakes - disks and pads added in early may 2011. July 29 2011 driving 20 + mph the vehicle started to sound like it had a flat tire. Immediately took vehicle to the shop, glancing at the car, mechanic said may be a tire rod, but wanted to look at it more in depth. He stated that the noise was coming from something loose or cracked in the transfer case. He advised me that at some point transfer case will bust and all 4 wheels will lock up. He quoted me at least $2500 for repair. The location of the transfer case makes it very difficult to repair or service. Why will Nissan not stand behind this product. There is no rust on the vehicle, but with 150,000 miles on it now, is it worth the money to repair? I have already replace the intake manfold which cracked in November. What will be the next part to break - the engine itself? love my Murano, but the company should back their product. My Murano has been driven short distances a few times since because I do not want to be on the highway when my "4 tires lock up".

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

The Murano seat frames are known to have a weak spot where the weld will break -causing your drivers seat to rock back and forth - or lean badly to one side. This cause sometime an unintentional sudden move which cause changing the steering wheel direction. That might cause an accident in some cases. Another major problem. Is the car get into sudden power loss after a while of driving after making a full stop. For example on traffic light or stop sign. It will take very very slow taking off and then will get the power back after few seconds. This delay may cause an accident in example of making left turn on a traffic intersection. You will not have any power to move the car for about 2-4 seconds . Thanks.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

After driving in stop and go traffic accelerator does not respond for 3-4 seconds then lunges forward and is very dangerous.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

After extended idle, the vehicle becomes unresponsive to fuel feed. When the gas pedal is depressed there is a hesitation (2-5 seconds) and then suddenly the vehicle will lurch forward. The problem temporarily goes away when the car is shut off for a few minutes.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2010

The first incident occurred while I was driving 60mph on the interstate. The car began do lose acceleration. It jerked and finally began to respond to the gas pedal. The ses light came on also. It was repaired at the dealership where they said it was the oxygen sensors. This cost $1000. 00. Five months later the car lost power while I was driving in a tunnel. I came to a complete stop, turned the car off and restarted it. I drove straight to the dealership but before getting there the car lost power again at a stoplight, , would not accelerate, finally regained some power and I basically coasted into the dealership. I was told it was now a camshaft and crankshaft sensor. This cost 420. 00. A few weeks later after coming off the ramp of the interstate the car lurched so hard that it hurt my back. I felt like it jumped out of gear but it was still in drive and lost acceleration again. I restarted it and called the dealership again. The next day the ses light came on. I have researched this on the computer and found out that many 2003 Nissan Muranos were recalled for this very problem but my VIN number is not on the list. It stated that the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint and needs to be replaced. It stated that the car could stop without warning and cause a crash.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2010

My 2003 Nissan Murano sl will sometimes be slow to respond to accelerator inputs. Usually after the vehicle has been driven about an hour, if I come to a stop at a red light or an off ramp, when I press the accelerator, nothing happens for a second or two, then the vehicle jumps forward at a rapid rate like I floored the gas pedal. This happens whether I depress the accelerator slightly or aggressively. Sometimes if it gets too bad, I will turn the car off then start it up again to reset the computer and it will fix the issue for a while. It is obviously some computer thing. My dealer is useless and I am tired of taking the car in to him. He doesn't fix things well if I tell him what is wrong, to ask him to diagnose a problem would be agonizing. I am just living with this until it gets worse, but it is definitely a safety issue.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2010

In Jan 2010 while traveling on interstate at 65 mph the engine of my 2003 Nissan Murano suddenly died leaving me with no power steering or power brakes. It was terrifying, but luckily, I managed to get to shoulder without an accident. Car engine restarted without hesitation. After waiting 5 minutes with engine idling smoothly with no apparent problem, I exited to frontage road at next exit and, 3 miles later, at 30 mph the engine suddenly died again. Restarted and pulled into nearby parking lot. Car again restarted without problem. After 10 minutes of idling smoothly, engine died while parked. Had car towed to Nissan dealer. Nissan shop reported that the "crankshaft position sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. " I found that there was recall issued in 2003 for 2003 model year Nissan Murano for exactly this issue, but both dealer and Nissan USA, when contacted by me, said the recall did not apply to my VIN # (even though NHTSA indicated recall affected 600,000 vehicles). I believe the failure of my crankshaft position sensor is directly related to the faulty solder joints in the circuit boards for the crankshaft position sensor as described in this recall. I believe the following recall should be expanded to include all 2003 model year Nissan Murano vehicles: NHTSA campaign id number: 03v455000, Nissan recall #: r3022).

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2009

Driving along road at 40 mph and car just cut out, loss power . This happen a few times and also had problems starting vehicle several times. Now there is a recall for this part for 630,000 Nissan Murano's but my vehicle VIN is not one of them . I dont understand how Nissan can only be responsible for fixing a portion of the cars out there when I have the same symptoms and this happens to me and they will fix others but my wife may die in a car crash because no one recalls the cam sensors on all of the 2003 Nissan Murano's instead of just some. Thank you james m. Dickerson.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2009

This Nissan is not fit for the road it is showing signs of the recalls listed for this vehicle and the manufacturers will not fix the defects. This vehicle will not start right away and it lunges forward and could be serious.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2009

Vehicle "service engine soon" light has come on, vehicle has varying pauses between pressing gas and vehicle reaction, vehicle stopped running while driving (with my pregnant wife driving and 18 month old son in vehicle), and restart has long crank duration. On April 17th, vehicle turned off at stop light while I was driving and restarted after long crank period. I pulled off to parking lot and car turned off and failed to recrank. This creates a very very dangerous condition in the vehicle just shutting off while driving! dealership indicated the cam sensors needed to be replaced. I have read that several other people have had similar experiences through researching this problem. I also understand that there has been a recall on crank position sensor or cam position sensor for this vehicle (year, make, model) for these exact problems, but when inquiring to Nissan about this, my VIN was not associated with the recall, despite being the same make, model, and year!.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2009

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano at 65,000 miles the cvt transmission case cracked in half. The car was inoperable and left me stranded. After thousands of dollars in replacing the cvt transmission the transfer case has cracked again at 120,000 miles. I have contacted Nissan USA and they have persuaded me to pay for diagnostic work (although a large visible crack in the transfer case is quite obvious) and then proceeded to deny all reimbursements. This is a serious issue with hundreds on complaints online, an official Nissan TSB, yet no recall from Nissan or NHTSA.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. When the vehicle was started, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle has difficulty starting and will shut off without notice. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and a technician stated that the crank position sensor and camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The repair would cost $400. No repairs have been made. The manufacturer stated that a recall was in place for the sensors; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact could not be reimbursed for the repair. The failure mileage was 51,500 and current mileage was 51,700.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

Service engine soon lit up 3x. First 2 was covered by warranty. Third time had to pay around $100 just to check. Turns out there's computer is sensing gas vapor leak but when checked, turned out no leak but had to pay just to check. Ripoff!.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

Catalytic converter is bad at 110k miles.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle completely shut down due to a faulty camshaft sensor. There were no warning indicators prior to the failure. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage was 82,765 and failure mileage was 82,750.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. While attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle loses power. The vehicle is able to be restarted after approximately 5-10 seconds. The contact stated that the vehicle occasionally accelerates on its own, without even depressing the accelerator pedal. The dealer stated that a valve body needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 65,000.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2007

Recall on some 2003 Nissan Murano cam sensors. My VIN does not fall under this recall but is having the exact same issues that the cam sensor recall states. If this is the case then all 2003 Nissan Muranos should be covered.
