Driving came to a stop at a light car died. Restarted it, drove home. Car wouldn't start, replaced the fuel pump. Vehicle started was driving got on the freeway had no acceleration control, loud knocking noise all of a sudden, turned around went back home and before I got to my front door the radiator exploded! the whole top of it cracked open.
During a routine service of my 2003 Nissan Murano, which has 33,293 miles on the odometer, the service technician noticed radiator fluid leaking from a hose that is located behind a fan-belt tension pulley. Upon closer inspection it was discovered that the bracket on which the pulley is mounted had failed causing the pulley to be pushed out of alignment and subsequently damaging the hose and belt, resulting in a repair cost of $450. 27. The repair consisted of replacing all the effected components at my expense. As far as I know, the "defective bracket" was replaced with an identical item sharing the same defective qualities. Nissan will not divulge the reason for the brackets failure. My concern if this "pulley devise" had broken off the vehicle due to the failure of the bracket while I was driving at speed, it would have done incalculable damage ,possibly causing me to loose control of the vehicle, probably causing an accident resulting in injury or loss of life. When I asked the service manager what caused the bracket to fail, he said he didn't know, but that I should consider myself fortunate that he discovered the problem when he did. Apparently, other owners were not so fortunate, their cars had to be towed and the damage was much more extensive. After the repairs were completed I asked to be given the defective and damaged parts and now have them in my possession.

Took vehicle to local Nissan dealer for inspection of problem and mechanic could not duplicate but was advised by shop mechanic about worn drive belt. Vehicle is @ 34,000 miles. Experienced clicking sound and subsequent loss of power while driving in mountainous area. 2003 Murano was completely disabled with what turned out to be complete failure of cvt transmission in Nissan dealer maintained vehicle with 77,000 miles on odometer. At this point, Nissan has offered no goodwill help in replacing $5000 cvt transmission, citing outside of 60,000 mile drive train warranty. Reliability of cvt technology in 2003 model is questionable , if complete failure on cvt is normal wear and tear at 77,000 miles. With exception of replacing two radiators and this cvt failure, I have had been very happy with vehicle.
Driving our 2003 Nissan Murano and car started to overheat. Took it to the dealer who said the radiator was cracked. Car has 72,000 miles with all scheduled maintenance done. Called Nissan na to see if others were experiencing the same problem and they have none reported. Denied to help due to excessive miles.
2003 Murano radiator and transmission malfunctioned. ** answer required***. The alternator was replaced after the alternator light illuminated on the dash. When accelerating suddenly the vehicle would hesitate.
I have a 2003 Nissan Murano sl. I was getting an oil change and noticed a discharge in my radiator overflow. I asked the guy to drain the radiator and reservoir and refill it with fresh antifreeze. The discharge returned and the car became disabled in a busy intersection, with no warning light prior. I had it towed to the dealer and they seemed to know exactly the issue. The transmission fluid had mixed with the radiator coolant?! they charged me $1265. 76 and said it wasn't covered because I was beyond 36,000 miles. The radiator looks new and I just have to take their word for this, even though they can't show me the problem. Since they were so quick to identify this problem, I have to think they are seeing it a lot and maybe this should be a recall. I took the old radiator with me and still have it. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
I bought a 2003 Nissan Murano 6 days ago. As I dropped my child off at day care, and went back to the vehicle, my car was smoking and radiator fluid was leaking everywhere. They said something had pierced my radiator. I had only driven about 1/2 a mile and saw or felt nothing, don't know if it's a defect or road hazard.
Vehicle in front her rollback and hit the grill, no damage was done to the vehicle upon inspection. 1/4 miles on the road notice the vehicle was on fire. Dealer was notified and diagnosis the radiator was broke. Please provide further information. Ph.
