Internal mounting bracket supporting the drivers seat has broken while rounding a corner causing my hands to slip of the steering wheel and car did strike the curb. The seat now will flop from side to side. The car is not safe to drive. I can't afford the $700+ repair, that will fail again in the short amount of time. Please look into this. It is a common problem on these model cars. Nisan has sent out a tsa for this repair. But the problem is conic and expensive. No after marked parts available. Nisan parts only and the replacements are failing also.

40 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

While turning right while driving my 2005 Nissan Murano I heard and felt a loud pop underneath my seat. Upon investigating I discovered that the back left side of my seat had broken loose from the bracket. The left back of the seat remains disengaged from the seat frame. I went to the Nissan dealer today where I purchased the car and was quoted $898. 08 for a new seat frame (part # 87450+a) and an additional $153-204 labor for installation. After researching online, I have discovered that this has been an ongoing issue with the Murano and that Nissan now uses a newly designed part to prevent this from happening. The fact that my seat is not fully attached in my car is very concerning and certainly is a safety issue. I am a bit surprised by the fact that the Nissan service department I went to appeared to never have heard of or seen this issue and yet when I went to the parts department, the representative told me that he had quoted for the part 4 times recently. Hmmm.

43 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

While driving down the street, I heard a "snap" and then my seat tipped backwards and to the left. While driving home, every speed bump I went over made the seat bounce as it is not held down. I called the dealership and told the man who answered the phone that the seat in my car broke as I was driving. He asked me, "murano?" I said, "yes. " he said, "2004 or 2005?" I said, "2005. " he said, "that will cost $1,300 to fix. I know what the problem is. It happens all the time on the particular car. " I feel like that having your seat break as you are driving down the street is quite hazardous. Fortunately, I didn't have an accident, which is probably in part because I was in a residential area and going slow. This is clearly a defective part and should be replaced by Nissan. If it wasn't defective, the man at the dealership would not have been able to identify my car without me giving him any personally identifying information about me or my car.

47 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

I am writing in regard to a 2005 Nissan Murano. The driver's seat support bracket has broken. The seat is loose and rocks and wobbles. A driver cannot sit securely in the seat as it moves while you are driving. In looking under the seat it shows that the left steel bracket has totally broken in half leaving the seat unsupported. I took the car into the dealership and they said it is not covered by Nissan, and since we are out of warranty, it will cost $900. 00. I cannot afford this so the seat remains broken. I asked the mechanic about it and he said their hands are tied as Nissan will not authorize the repair on a recall basis. The mechanic has seen several of these, but he said that ours is the worst one he has seen. Most of the others have just been wobbly, but ours is totally broken. He offered to talk to someone at Nissan about it and "go to bat for us". This should be a recall item as more than 8,000 have reported this problem. If there is ever an injury to a driver as a result of a broken seat there will be a law suit that will cost them more than the recall.

48 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano. Recently, the drivers seat broke, causing it to rock during regular driving and tip over when going around turns. Nissan north America and the dealer refuse to repair the seat under warranty, stating that it is a result of "normal wear and tear". I did some research on the internet and learned that many people have the same problem. I attempted to locate the part myself and learned that Nissan has changed the part number seven times, in attempts to fix this problem. I was unable to locate the part as it is in high demand. The drivers seat is a major safety concern not only due to the bouncing and rocking but the possibility that it will disconnect completely. I cant even fathom how this seat would hold up during an accident. Last week, while I was driving to work, a tractor-trailer entered my lane of travel. I swerved to avoid hitting it but, due to the broken seat, my body flew toward the passenger side of the car, nearly causing me to totally lose control of the car in the process. My car ran off the road but, luckily, I did not hit anything.

49 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2010

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano se. As I was going 60 mph in the fast lane down the highway, the seat snapped ,tilted to the left then lurched backward becoming unstable. I almost loss control of the car and injured my back. I had to pull over to the side of the road and the bar that is in the lower bottom of the seat bracket broke off and the screw that anchors the seat to the floor became unstable. I had to find a way to secure the seat to ride home and lucky me had some patio bricks in the back which are now holding this seat up otherwise it will collapse. I called Nissan headquarters and they will not help me and they do not care. The dealer wants $1,800 to fix which I could put down for another car because I will never buy a Nissan again. Also , the door handles have broke ,the differential and a long list of many things with this car. I take care of my car but this model is a nightmare. They could offer something of a discount but too greedy. I could of loss my life with this car but I am lucky to be an older driver and experienced. The seat has no support and will fall over backward. There should be a solution the bracket that holds the support bar is thinner than a dime and is a manufacturing defect. This could of happened at any time depending on the type of highway you travel no matter the mileage or the age of the vehicle. The driver's seat is a safety issue not like the passenger seat.

52 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2010

Ref complaint #[xxx]of 9/8/10. Driver seat collapse/Nissan Murano; tues 9/7/10. This is a follow-up because I am understanding that this issue was reported before and simply "dropped" by your department. This is a "safety issue" which could have been disastrous had the seat collapsed when our daughter (short and tiny) was driving the vehicle a few days earlier on a trip from springfield to richmond va. Thank god she did not encounter the problem then. The support for the seat broke! we have the part. This should not have happened and Nissan should take responsibility for the replacement. People are "welding" the part back: what happens if that should break and an accident occurs? one should not be encouraged to take this route!! we would hope that your department would take this seriously and have Nissan recall these vehicles for a total refit of the seat before catastrophe happens. Thank you. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

53 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

Drivers seat is off hinge. Took it to Nissan for review. They said it's not covered under warranty due to mileage. Known issue for seat to break on welded left corner but will cost over $1000 out of pocket to fix. Had Nissan customer service investigate, they refused to cover as well. Faulty seat known issue and cannot get them to pay to fix it.

54 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2010

On July 31, 2010, the driver's seat on my 2005 Nissan Murano made a popping sound, and suddenly started leaning to the left. A few miles later, there was another popping sound, and the seat started rocking left and right, and was very unstable. I took it to the dealer's service department today, and they told me the seat frame was broken and that it was a common problem for this 2005 Nissan Murano. The seat breaking unexpectedly is a serious safety problem, as it causes the seat belt to be incorrectly adjusted and can be too tight or too loose. Also, if this broke when I was driving on the freeway, I could have easily lost control of my car as the seat lurched to the left. If you do a google search for "2005 Nissan Murano seat frame", you can find hundreds if not thousands of complaints about this exact issue. Nissan refuses to repair the seat, even under extended warranty, and they won't issue a recall. This is a known manufacturing / mechanical defect, and it should be repaired at no cost to the vehicle owner.

55 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

The front drivers seat frame broke under normal operating conditions after getting into my vehicle (I weight about 160lbs, 5'7" tall) on July 25th, 2010. I have not yet gotten this problem fixed because it is going to cost about $900 to fix it.

56 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact was driving about 20-25 mph when the drivers side seat anchor broke. The seat began to rock and repeatly hit the driver's side door. The seat was lowered to the lowest position to stop the rocking. The dealer was notified and the vehicle was scheduled to be taken to the dealer on July 1. The manufacturer was notified and they told her there was no recall on the vehicle and gave her a report number. The failure and current mileage was 72,000.

57 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2010

Driver's seat frame broke while driving. The seat rocked backwards and was unstable during turns. It broke during city driving. I believe if it happened during highway driving, someone might loose control of the car.

58 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

2005 Nissan Murano - front driver seat broken . I was driving and in the process of making a left turn when I felt my car seat come loose. The car has about 105,000 miles and is approximately 5 years old. This is definitely a safety hazard. If I were to get into a car accident, I can get seriously hurt.

59 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

Seat bracket broke causing seat to wobble side to side, weakening other points of attachment. I had the seat bracket welded twice so far and it has rebroken twice. Internet research revealed that these brackets break very frequently in 2003-2008 Nissan Muranos, even those with very low mileage. Nissan recognizes that this is a faulty design, as their replacement part is much stronger and totally different, yet no recall. Quite a safety issue when your seat comes loose while you are driving! seats should not disconnect from the car with normal wear. I weigh 170 pounds, not above average for a full grown adult driver.

60 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The driver side seat was broken and unstable. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the dealer inspected and contacted the manufacturer to inquire how to repair the seats and if the repairs would be covered. The manufacturer stated that they would only pay a percentage and the contact would be paying the difference. The VIN was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were approximately 52,000.

The drivers front seat broke on my wife's 2005 Nissan Murano while she was driving at 55 mph. The seat started rocking back and forth. She was able to make it home as she was only 3 miles away. The car has 32,600 miles.

64 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2010

While driving my 2005 Nissan Murano on Sunday, April 11,201 , I heard something crack and my driver seat collapsed on the left rear. It appears that theseat frame broke. I have approximately 30,000 miles on my vehicle and I feel that this is a serious concern, as I had the presence of mind to pull over as soon as it happened. From an internet investigation, it appears that this is a recurring issue and should be addressed before some dies as a result of an apparent design flaw.

65 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

Totally unexpectedly, the driver's seat tilted backwards all of a sudden, almost causing an accident as I lost control for a while. I took the car to the garage after wedging the seat stationary with blocks of wood. The mechanic said the weld on the seat bracket broke and that it was my responsibility to fix at a cost of $1100. Despite repeated attempts to get Nissan to repair what was clearly a faulty design that caused metal fatigue, the seat still has not been repaired. I went on the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem and found in a short time about 200 instances of this bracket breaking in this same spot. This car has only about 38,000 miles and has only been driven by myself.

66 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2010

On March 27, 2010, I was stopping at a light and the drivers front seat, in my 2005 Nissan Murano, broke. I had the extended warranty; however, my seat was not covered. I took it to the Nissan dealership immediately and it cost me $461. 23 to have my seat fixed. The dealership stated that my rear cushion support bracket was broken, they stated that this was a common problem with the 2005 Muranos, and that I would have to either get it fixed there (at the dealership) or I would have to have the car towed to another facility to have it repaired. This is not normal - wear and tear a broken seat from stopping at a light. The dealership stated that there were no recalls, but would put in a complaint on my behalf.

67 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Murano in March of 2009. In March of 2010 my drivers side seat broke. Looking under the seat the one of the metal support bars has come unwelded from the track causing the seat to lean to the left against the door. I have had a Nissan vehicle since 1995 and have never had any major issues.

68 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

2005 Nissan Murano seat broken mount. Metal mount to seat base has sheared off under normal use causing unsafe driving condition. Seat moves voluntarily. As this appears to be a manufacturing defect through inspection of part , a $1000 replacement is unacceptable.

69 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

1. The events leading up to the failure: sitting in my seat. 2. The failure, how often it occurs, its consequences: seat frame broke. Now seat leans, and rocks on turns. It's very loose. 3. What was done to correct the failure: nothing. I've opened a case with Nissan but they said it wasn't covered in a recall and I'm out of warranty. I've researched this on the web and it appears that this is a very common problem.
