Automatic Emergency Braking Problems of Nissan Murano

It has occurred on a few occasions where the emergency braking system has enabled with no obstructions nearby most commonly while backing up into a parking spot but the recent situation of it automatically breaking on the highway while doing 60 with no other vehicles nearby, my wife attempted the gas pedal to disengage the system but it did not affect the braking.

Aeb light was on so we took it into the st. Augustine Nissan dealership. They told us the abs actuator needed replaced and there are now more lights including the abs on the dash after they were in the car. They said the part was on back order since February and that there were about 70 people ahead of us in line waiting for this part. Hearing that I decided to check for recalls and noticed there were abs recalls on other Muranos of the same year. This also keeps cruise control from working.

On Jan 15, 2025, my vehicle exhibited an unintended sudden acceleration event while applying the brakes to slow the vehicle. Shortly after applying the brakes, the vehicle's engine revved very high and the car launched forward despite my foot on the brake and then struck another vehicle in front of me. The automatic emergency braking did not trigger. The air bags did deploy. No significant injuries, but both cars were damaged, my Murano likely totaled. I am confident that I did not accidentally hit the gas pedal.

I was driving about 30 mph on an empty street when the car slammed on the brakes. The sequence was three beeps, then red warning message on instrument panel, then immediate hard braking to almost a dead stop. There was no traffic ahead of me or behind me. Had there been someone behind me they would have hit me. Had I been around cross traffic expecting me to clear, they would have hit me. Two Nissan dealers have inspected the forward emergency braking system and found nothing. Nissan north America will not authorize any additional work unless a dealer finds a problem. In addition to this big problem, there have been two times when a message that forward emergency braking was not available due to obstruction.

The car keeps braking like I've been in an accident when I travel under an overpass. It doesn't do it every time, just sometimes. I've had it at the dealer, don moore in owensboro, ky. And since it doesn't show any codes they can't/won't do anything about it. I don't feel safe driving this car for fear it will slam on the brakes at any time. It has happened 3 times so far. It also did it almost, once, when driving down the main street in town. It all of the sudden showed the cameras and the lights came up on the dash but luckily it didn't brake. Thank you. While traveling experiences slight vibration in which passenger side tire pulled oncming lane, nonemergency brakes were applied not notification of crossing outside of lane, passenger side tire blew out, causing to hit a culvert and all airbags deployed with passenger air bag off. The vehicle would not start.

Have 3 lights on dash abs, awd, and brake. Had the vehicle diagnosed, and was told it is the abs module. Shouldn't this be covered as a safety issue.

The forward collision warning is stuck on saying malfunction. Sometimes the car brakes without warning, activating the automatic emergency braking and stopping suddenly. This is dangerous.

The automatic emergency braking system is malfunctioning whereby for no apparent reason the aeb light comes on which disables it and also my cruise control. Reputable car repair shop told me that a false positive signal is sent which disables aeb. Cannot turn off in settings. When I turn off the vehicle the aeb light will be off however it will come again for no reason after inconsistent time periods have elapsed. Contacted Nissan customer service and was told that there is no record of other complaints about the aeb.

While driving down interstate the car's automatic collision breaking system activated and brought the car to an immediate stop. While breaking the information screen in the steering wheel area flashed red with an explanation point symbol but as soon as the breaking was done it went away and no other lights appeared on the dash indicating an issue. There was nothing that should have triggered the automatic collision braking system to have engaged. Had someone been directly behind me this could have easily caused an accident by them slamming into the back of my car as nothing would have caused them to expect sudden breaking by me. The unexpected sudden breaking happened twice within a 10 minute window while driving on interstate. I have driven it minimally since so I could have it looked at by the dealer to review the issue as it is under warranty and I felt it unsafe to drive. The car has been inspected by a Nissan dealer and they are unable to reproduce the issue and are not taking any repair action at this time.

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The failure resulted in another vehicle rear-ending his vehicle in a collision. The air bags did not deploy. The contact’s wife did not sustain any injuries and medical attention was not received. No police report was filed. The contact’s wife was able to drive away from the collision site. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer informed the contact that they would reset the error code and clean the camera. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,607.

Vehicle routinely triggers the automatic emergency braking system when approaching a certain overpass. Speeds are usually around 40 to 50 mph. Occasionally triggers at other locations where no obstacle should be triggering it. Local Nissan dealer has inspected the system several times, including sending to a specialist, and found no defect.

I was driving from a funeral on Saturday July, 30th. 2022. The car has been fine, & shown no leading hints of error. I did have a spare tire on in which it had no problems either. After the funeral I was notified my tire was ready, so I headed over to get it changed. After about 10/15 mins of driving (taking my daughter to work) the car started to pull, & make a screeching/loud noise. At first I thought maybe it was the brake pads, or tire rubbing. After calling my dad (a mechanic), & talking with others. Searching online as well. It was said to be the transmission. Few moments went by then it was the transfer case, axel, then finally an electrical issue. My all wheel drive light constantly flashes. I have no control over the off/on module. Anything over 5mph it’s does the noise, & tries to pull the car to the left. It gets louder, & more strong as I accelerate. I’ve never had problems out of this car, nor has it acted this way or anything close. It was all like a random happening. Now I feel I’m at a loss as no one knows the actual problem. As my fiancé & I both work. We have no other transportation, & have no way of getting a new car at the moment.

Multiple times I will get a warning that emergency braking is not available for an obstruction. But no obstruction. The Feb system light will come on out of nowhere… literally nothing around! causing cruise control to disengage and not work again until I stop and restart the car ?? no actually crash has occurred, but if this can’t be fixed I see it as inevitable! please advise on what to do. This also I believe is the reason why I’ve had to replace front breaks and rotors twice in 2 years!!!.

We've had the vehicle over a year and have never been able to get used to the forward and backward collision avoidance emergency braking, as it seems to activate for no reason at all. Multiple times this has happened to my wife, the primary driver. She's too anxious to drive it on days with inclement weather when it's the worst. We have the car being evaluated by the dealer, if they can't repair or disable, sensors and auto braking then I'm going to get them to buy it back from me.

Recently my 2007 Nissan Murano was dragging a little on slow speeds. I checked the wheels and found the driver's side rear brake had more brake dust then the other side. I pulled the wheels and found that the brake caliper was froze. I bought two "new" calipers and rotors and replaced them. I then used an air driven suction device to replace all the fluid in the system and bleed the air out of the system. When I started it up the brake pedal was very spongy so I brought to the local tire kingdom about 1/2 mile away and let them bleed it out. They stated that the master cylinder was now no good. I purchased a "new" master cylinder installed it, and re-bleed the system. The pedal was still dangerously spongy and low so on 06/14/202i the vehicle to the local Nissan dealer. After a few days they stated that the "abs brake actuator" was not functioning. I questioned why the abs warning light didn't come on and they didn't know. The dealer said the part was no longer available new so hey offered to get one from lkq scrap yard for $780. 00 and for $220. 00 more it would be covered for a year. I looked into the issue and found that the 2009 Murano's were recalled for this issue, so I inquired what year was the part coming out of. They didn't know so I got one on my own from the exact same vehicle and brought to them to install. A few days later they stated that the new "master cylinder" was defective. I went back to nappa auto and bought another one and gave to them to install and re-bleed the system. My question is a vehicle with an abs warning light a brake system warning light and even just a engine check light never came on, why not? the dealer has no answer for me and I am concerned that this will happen again and possibly at a higher rate of speed. Can you investigate this incident for me? thank you for your time and consideration.

When I leave the parking structure at my office, my front emergency brake gets triggered. Today was the third time this happened. From my research, there are several class action lawsuits. We leased the car in 10/2019, but purchased it around 01/2021. 1)the first time it happened it, the brake pedal automatically released from under my foot, slammed on the brake and came to a screeching stop. I was not going down, but on a level wrapping around. I was driving less than 10 mph in the structure. Thankfully, no one was around me. If someone was behind, they would have definitely hit me. 2) second was a few weeks ago. Again, same parking structure, but going down. No one was around. The car beeped a few times and saying it triggered the "driving aids" and car quickly braked automatically and screeched, but not like the first time. 3) third time today. It didn't even beep and screeched. Again, same parking structure going down. It screeched and jerked the brake, but not as forcefully as the first time. Each time, I have pulled over and shut off this "feature. " however, the feature is set to be automatically "on" and have to manually shut it off at each time the car is restarted.

As I was driving up a parking garage ramp, about 1/2 way up the ramp, the vehicle slammed on the breaks like a front end collision was imminent. There were no cars in front of me, and I wasn't close to any required turns in the parking garage. If someone was driving too close, they would have rear-ended my vehicle. The vehicle simply had no reason to stop on its own.

I was driving at approximately 25 mph and my vehicle suddenly slammed on the brakes without warning. A red warning screen lit up on my dash. There were no pedestrians or other vehicles in front of me. Luckily, the car behind me was able to stop without hitting me.

I am driving my car and the brake light came on battery light came on and then I lost power and it will charge the battery to battery tip acting like he was dead and I put a brand new battery in and it still did the same thing and it wasn't giving the battery any charge I haven't been able to dry my car I got it stuck on the highway it is was in m motion.

Traction control and forward collision detection trouble light comes on at random intervals. Reported multiple times to Nissan dealer and Nissan consumer affairs. Has been in the shop a total of 18 days during 4 occurrences. Nissan corporate will not heed the dealers advice to replace abs system. This safety issue is still unresolved and the vehicle is still in a service bay awaiting Nissan corporate direction.

I have a 2020 Nissan Murano that had 3 occurrences in a 48 hour period where the automatic emergency braking system caused my car to stop immediately with no warning or obstruction in the road. The 1st incident occurred when I was traveling approximately 30 miles per hour on a city street. My car went from 30 to 0 with no warning. The motor didn't stall out, the car was still idling but the car just stopped on the road. I was not braking at the time. I'm thankful no vehicle was traveling behind me at the time. The next 2 occurrences happened while backing out of my drive way. Again there was nothing in the way to obstruct the vehicle from backing out. No maintenance lights or warning lights showed up. When I took my vehicle to the dealership, they found nothing wrong. The computer didn't show anything was in need of repair. I told them there was no maintenance or warning light that showed on any of the 3 occurrences.

At random times while driving the forward collision warning system and cruise control will stop working. On average it happens about every 20 to 25 miles and remains off for 2 to 3 minutes. It does not occur at regular intervals though, this is just the average. It was very difficult to get Nissan to replace the sensor while the car was under warranty. They did not want to and finally when they agreed they said the part was on back order due to high demand so I'm not the only customer who has complained about this. The sensor still does not work properly and having the forward collision warning/automatic braking not reliable is a safety issue. Having the cruise control not work is just an annoyance. At Nissan's suggestions, I've cleaned the sensor many times and I've ensured that nothing is blocking the sensor. It is simply a faulty, unreliable part and I believe there should be a national recall. This has been happening for over 2 years now. It took many months of complaining and sending them pictures of it not working before they replaced the sensor the first time. That fixed the issue for a few months but now the second sensor on the car has been malfunctioning for over a year. I'm attaching a couple of pictures for example. This issue has happened over a 100 times to me though.

The aeb system engaged with nothing infront of my vehicle on Jan 19, 2021. This is not the intended way of functioning for this system.

I was driving 25 mph when the car automatic stopped and applied the automatic emergency brake (aeb) was applied with no obstacles around on a clear sunny day. Purchased the car new with only 3 miles on it. Car came to a complete stop. I am afraid for my safety. Took the car in to dealer and was told nothing is wrong with the car within 1 week it happend again and I was told by the dealer there's nothing wrong with the car.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds with the cruise control engaged, the traction control and collision mitigation warning lights illuminated. The automatic emergency braking engaged and the cruise control was disengaged. The contact had to depress the accelerator pedal for the vehicle to resume normal operation. The vehicle was taken to Nissan of north olmsted (28500 lorain rd, north olmsted, OH 44070) where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the distance sensor was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred intermittently. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
