2 Body problem of the 2021 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

On Jan 15, 2025, my vehicle exhibited an unintended sudden acceleration event while applying the brakes to slow the vehicle. Shortly after applying the brakes, the vehicle's engine revved very high and the car launched forward despite my foot on the brake and then struck another vehicle in front of me. The automatic emergency braking did not trigger. The air bags did deploy. No significant injuries, but both cars were damaged, my Murano likely totaled. I am confident that I did not accidentally hit the gas pedal.

3 Body problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/20/2024

After noticing a noise on the left rear of my car after hitting a pothole, I took my 2009 Nissan Murano to my local mechanical garage. What was found was a rusted sub frame. Obviously this could have resulted in injuries.

4 Body problem of the 2011 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

Hi I see this vehicle had a recall campaign previously under notice p1261/ntb12-003/ntb14-076. This campaign includes the replacement of the links and other items under this campaign. This vehicle is a convertible and the top frame is once again damaged due to the same recall for links. I recently took the vehicle to lorenzo Nissan as the top is not working. They advised the frame links are bound, and the frame needs to be replaced. As this was covered under previous recall, the recall is obviously not adequate.

5 Body problem of the 2014 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/26/2024

The paint on my hood started peeling last spring for no apparent reason, so I brought my car to a local body shop to have it repainted, and the owner there said that he sees this all the time with Nissans that are that color and that were made around that year, but that there were no recalls for it. I let it be and just paid for the hood to be done, thinking that would be the end of it; but, shortly after that, the trunk started peeling all over, and keeps getting worse and worse; and, more recently, the sides of the car are peeling too and just getting worse and worse. I tried contacting Nissan’s headquarters about this, giving them all of this information, and they told me there’s nothing they can do because the warranty expired in 2016 (I didn’t even purchase the vehicle until 2020), and that it doesn’t matter that the body shop owner said that this is a very common problem, so I’m on my own for the cost of repainting the entire car, even though it’s clearly a manufacturing issue. I even tried contacting my local Nissan, and two workers there even also said that this is a problem they’ve seen several times, so that they also believe it’s a manufacturing issue, but that their hands are tied. At this point, I’m not sure what else to do, but it does seem entirely unfair that consumers — apparently lots of consumers — are having to foot the bill for something that is seemingly Nissan’s fault. Since it’s a manufacturing issue, I don’t see why there isn’t, nor why there shouldn’t be, a recall over it.

6 Body problem of the 2010 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/04/2024

I began hearing a rattling sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. I believed it was possibly the suspension, as the vehicle would also bounce more often than expected when going over any irregularities in the road (potholes, speed bumps, normal wear on roads, etc). I brought it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they found no issues. I had previously replaced all 4 tires and brakes before hearing this sound, and nothing was brought to my attention then, either. The noise continued, and I brought the vehicle to another mechanic, where the damage was found immediately. The frame had corroded to the point where the mechanic advised me to not even drive home, rather have the vehicle towed to the dealership to be assessed and checked for a recall. Multiple incidents similar to mine have been found - all starting after 100k miles - but none have resulted in an official recall notice.

7 Body problem of the 2011 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/04/2024

Premature subframe corrosion: first noticed a knocking noise coming from under rear driver side area when going over bumps with our 2011 Murano. Then the knocking noise (metal on metal sound) got worse and then the back of our vehicle would sway uncontrollably side to side when pressing a little hard on the brakes. Brought the vehicle to the Nissan dealer and was told that the subframe had excessive corrosion and the vehicle is dangerous to drive. Our vehicle has only 106,800 miles and has been garage kept and serviced every year by the Nissan dealership. Discovered online that 100’s, probably 1000’s including unreported incidents of other Nissan owners having the same excessive subframe rusting problem. People have reported their wheels falling off and losing control of vehicle. . . Easily can cause major accident with deaths. There was a recall in 2006 for the same subframe issue but for unknown reasons doesn’t include my vehicle. Nissan has not corrected the cause of the subframe defect and has allowed this dangerous situation to continue with their vehicles even after the recall ended. The parts & labor cost to replace the subframe is between $3,000-$4,000+ and Nissan consumer affairs says since there are no current recalls and the vehicle is out of warranty that they will do nothing for me. This subframe rusting started day 1 when we purchased the vehicle and prematurely got worse each year through the warranty period until it becomes a dangerous situation after the warranty period ends. The prior recall should be extended to cover more vehicles and Nissan should take responsibility for not correcting the premature subframe rusting issues. Nissan should cover the costs to repair the faulty subframe or at the least, Nissan should supply the parts to correct the issue and the owner be responsible for the labor.

8 Body problem of the 2017 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/04/2024

We had an accident on January 4. We were rear ended and pushed it to the vehicle in front of us. The truck that hit us was going about 65 miles an hour. Our vehicle is totaled. No air bags deployed and my seat did not engage.

9 Body problem of the 2018 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

The seal around the panoramic sunroof is faulty. It allows for water intrusion down the inner lining of the "a" frame. Water is filling up along the floorboard. The wiring harness is exposed to water. I've spoken with numerous dealership and they state this is a known problem; caused by backup of the drainage system; however I've own the vehicle for several years and the problem never existed until recently. I've taken it to the dealer twice within the past month for cleaning and the problem continues to exist. The vehicle has no known reported accidents. There is no physical evidence of frame damage and I am the second owner of the vehicle. There was no warnings and this just started occurring this year.

Just noticed a loud bang sound from back and got it checked. Finally found out that the rear subframe has all rusted out which is very dangerous.

13 Body problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/25/2023

Have been driving Murano thinking only needed 4 wheel alignment. Rear wheels as I was told some time ago looked like to tow in I think you call it was off, leaning in. Took to garage, mechanic stated, k- frame completely rusted in half on both sides. Stabilizer bar just dangling. Stated it's a wonder I had not been killed. Said from the look I had been driving it for quite some time in this condition. Currently has 175k miles on it. I bought in 2019, had 161k on it then. Bought up north. Vehicle is in perfect shape otherwise. Now, I have nothing. He said possible I could have bought that way. I see many, many of these frames rusting through too early. Why would Nissan avoid this issue. I will put date discovered, but I believe date was years sooner as I only drive in local area.

14 Body problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/11/2023

Took my car in for a front end alignment and wobbling in the rear when hit bumps. Informed that the rear subframe is completely corroded and “rotted out”. Quoted repair cost of $3900, and the car is deemed unsafe to drive in its current condition.

15 Body problem of the 2011 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/16/2023

Rear sub frame rusted through on passenger side. Allows irregular motion of wheel and bumping of detached parts. Causes vehicle float when brake is applied. Unsafe to drive confirmed by independent and dealership technicians. Braking at medium or high speed could cause severe float, loss of control, accident, further damage. I am not driving the vehicle. Ii is a low-miles, well-maintained vehicle. No accident occurred. I noticed it early and got the diagnosis.

16 Body problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

When I applied the brakes the car pulled to the right so I brought it to my mechanic to find out the rear control arm bracket pulled out of the sub frame near the body bushing the rest of the car is not rotten only parts of the sub frame.

17 Body problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/31/2022

The frame has rusted out of the vehicle at only 156,000 miles. It is unsafe as the rear suspension and sway bars are no longer connected to the frame. This causes unsteady movement and swaying when in motion endangering the driver and others on the road. The problem was confirmed by a professional mechanic. I have not had it inspected by the manufacturer nor another party. There were no warning lamps only the onset of severe instability regarding the suspension.

18 Body problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/03/2022

The rear k frame rusted out ,all of a sudden the vehicle started swaying out of control on gravel or wet roads, no rust on the vehicle except the rear k frame, I parked the vehicle because it's unsafe to drive , I understand that this is a problem that effects more than just mine and I hope it's recalled or something is done about it, thank you for looking into it.

20 Body problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/31/2022

Both rear tires suddenly began wearing severely inside. Both were bald on the inside. The car ha 100,284 miles and the tires have approximately 4,000 miles. I had a 4 wheel alignment performed and was told the rear subframe was too rusted to perform a complete alignment. I fear it will it will crack and lose control. Based upon other complaints on the rear subframe it is clear the material used was inferior.

21 Body problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/15/2022

Approximately 1 month ago my Nissan began shaking when the speedometer reached 20-40 miles per hour. The shaky would get bad enough to where I was not able to keep it straight and would have to pull off the road. This went on for about 1 and half weeks. My husband noticed that the tops of the back tires were tilted inward. When he inspected my car he found that the rear sub-frame had broke. We also discovered that this is something that is not normal due to wear and tear. Failure of Nissan to rust proof the sub-frame is to blame. I noticed several complaints from other owners of Nissan Murano's 2006-2007 on the internet. One of those were able to get a 'settlement' from Nissan, but did not detail how they went about doing that. I called Nissan customer service and all I got was there is nothing they can do because of the age of my car, even though I explained to her that this is something that could have been prevented when the car was manufactured and was due to negligence on Nissan's part. We have not taken my car to a dealer or service center as my husband, who use to race cars, is very familiar with cars. My car that has always been so dependable and is now junk, as it will cost more to repair it than what it's worth.

24 Body problem of the 2019 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/17/2022

On 05/17/2022 I was on my way to work driving about 68-70mph on the interstate, wa hwy 520. At around 0625 am I suddenly heard a loud boom-explosion, and then glass everywhere—the sunroof spontaneously exploded and I looked up and there was a bug hole in it. I swerved a bit and then pulled over on the left, but due to very little shoulder in the road I got back on the highway. I am a physician and really needed to get to work on time so I took the photo after I got there about 8 more miles.

35 Body problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/11/2022

Right rear subframe rusted out - suspension has become disconnected from chassis. Car is unsafe to drive. The car is available for inspection. We could have lost control of the car because of this issue. Nissan did not identify the rust and sub-frame issue, another independent auto repair shop did (worldwide auto: bloomington, in). Nissan missed this when we brought it in for investigation but rather blamed it on a steering wheel sensor malfunctioning. The component hasn't been inspected by police or insurance rep. Dashboard light came on before we brought it to Nissan, who then misdiagnosed the issue.
