Nissan Murano owners have reported 4 problems related to crankshaft position sensor (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Murano based on all problems reported for the Murano.
Incident 1: turned my car on and let it warm up to operating temperature, started driving, speed limit went from 25 , 35 , 45 . Once I was coasting around 45 mph my vehicle lost power completely while in motion, locking my steering wheel. Came to a stop in the middle of the road and car would not turn over. Engine light code p0335 was read from my fixd app. Replaced sensor and all was fine for about 10 days. Incident 2: driving down a road going 30 mph up a hill my car again, lost power and steering wheel locked while in motion, brakes were very stiff and I was almost unable to stop my vehicle from rolling down the hill backwards. Checked my code reader and again, code p0335 was the issue again. Replaced another crankshaft position sensor. Incident 3: was stationary at a busy city intersection when my 2006 Nissan Murano again, lost power and would not start. My VIN number is not on the list of recalls but I feel as though it needs to be. There are other makes/models of Nissan that were recalled for this extreme safety issue.

While driving on the toll road in houston, my vehicle lost speed and power going up an overpass, and luckily I was able to pull off to the shoulder before complete loss of power. The check engine light came on prior to this event. I was able to crank the engine but it would not start. My passenger needed medical assistance due to the heat (100 degrees), and my vehicle had to be towed to the Nissan dealer. This dealer indicated a dtcode p0340, cam sensor and crank sensor failure, and repairs totaled $765. 93. Researching this failure, I learned that there was an earlier recall of my exact vehicle for this failure, but my VIN was not included in the recall. After searching the internet, I discovered many, many other owners of 2003 Muranos with VIN numbers outside of the recall are experiencing the exact same problem as the recall. . Read more...

Murnao has been maintained wth all oil changes/schd mx done by the book. Couple of days ago I was sitting in line at a drive thru and the car abruptly died. There were no warning lights prior to the event. The service engine soon light came on then went back off after a restart. Then yesterday it died while slowing to a stop sign at aprox 15 mph. This time the service light stayed on after the restart. Again this morning it died, this time in traffic while traveling at aprox 50 mph. Parked the Murano and borrowed a friends car for the rest of the day. Did my homework online and noticed the recall for this engine stall. Got the engine codes from a local shop and suprise; camshaft position/crank position sensors. Of course when I called Nissan my VIN is not affected by the recall 03v455000. Contacted local Nissan dealer, est repair costs $600+. Nissan is not holding up its end of thier deal on this vehicle. Please take note, do not buy Nissan.
Vehicle jerked violently then dies! dealer claims it is the crankshaft sensor. Replaced sensor. Happened 3-more times until manufacturer finally authorized complete replacement of sensor terminal connectors. It has been in the shop over 5-total weeks up till now including all 4 attempts to fix. They assured that this would fix the problem. However it happened again on 3/11/04. We have given the manufacturer its final opportunity before proceeding with our lemon law rights, they simply reacted by trying to find a loophole in the process, so we are now proceeding with legal action against Nissan now on our 5th time of this occurence.
