Transmission randomly at the blue stopped. The car has a cvt engine and I see that there’s a recall on it. I also received a letter in the mail stating that there was a recall.

I have done a lot of research on these Nissan Muranos and other Nissan models. There are recalls for this exact same issue on models 2015-2019 and I have a 2014. I have viewed many complaints and reviews that state owners also have problem with the cvt transmission. Mine is giving error messages and been acting up while on the interstate. It will jolt into 4 rpm and higher and stay there. This always happens on the interstate and has happened a few times on slower speed limit roads. Seems like the issue is mainly when the car is over 60mph on the interstate. It seems very dangerous and I know Nissan cvt transmission have been recalled. I only have 132,000 miles on my vehicle and many mechanics have told me that it should not be going out like this with this few miles.

6/27/25 at 1378 miles received a malfunction warning light for lane departure. 7/4/25 at 1875 miles pulling out from my home to railroad street the engine started sounding really loud like a motorcycle engine and started to decelerate which could have caused an accident. Video was taken, vehicle was taken to matt bowers Nissan 7/11/25 and states issue could not be duplicated and that the engine noise is normal. Engine sounds really loud each time the vehicle is started and again was told by service technician foreman ken that he has seen similar vehicles with the same problem, and this is normal and preceded to tell me about other noises that I will here that is also normal. Here a sound like valves is tapping. New vehicle should be quiet, and this one is very noisy.
Vehicle will not accelerate. I will drive it a few miles, and it will be just fine. I drive it more, and it will stall and not accelerate. In fact, on 6/30/25, I was getting on the highway and it wouldn't accelerate and 8 warning lights came on. It has a brand new battery, alternator, idle sensor, and throttle position sensor. My dad and grandpa both know a lot about cars, and they are at a loss.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the vehicle shuddered, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle intermittently returned to normal functionality. The contact checked the transmission fluid and noticed the fluid was burnt and emitted a foul odor. The contact found metal shavings inside the transmission fluid pan. The contact who is a mechanic used a thinkcar scanner and retrieved dtc: p17f1. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure had progressively worsened, and the vehicle was no longer driven and remained parked at the residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000.

No warning lights,no issues that car was having any problems 4/20/25, next day I backed out driveway, put into drive, transmission would not engage drive? managed to roll and park it. Then steering wheel lost power, bunch of warnings appeared, car shut down? turned on today, 4/22/25 but no power steering? and no drive engagement. Called Nissan tunersville, also received letter last week about ctv, but cant find letter yet? saw tons of same issue on line? dealer said not recall? yet all over internet coverage problems? I havnt had it towed yet for mechanic to check out.

About 1 month ago my car started dragging going up hills. The rpms were high but the car wouldn't accelerate. On flat surfaces it would not accelerate faster than 40 mph and smoke was coming out of the exhaust. It would not shift gears or accelerate. Firestone had my car for a week but said it could only be fixed by a Nissan dealership because it had to be flashed. I paid a little over $900 to the dealership for them to tell me they don't know why my car won't shift or accelerate correctly. I asked if it was the cvt and they said they didn't know. They put blue devil in my engine which helped stop smoke coming out of the engine but it still doesn't shift and rpms stay high. My son had to take my car to work and when he got on the highway he tried to accelerate to avoid getting hit, and again, my car wouldn't shift but the rpms stayed high.
The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Murano. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle was vibrating and shuddering significantly. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated as needed. The contact stated that the failure had persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,457.

The transmission has given out. There are recalls for the same year (2014) on different Nissan vehicles. There are issues that I have never had. One minute it will go then it'll shudder and not move at all even with the pedal pushed down. It goes into limp mode. There are threads and pages created just for this issue and nothing has been done about it. The car gave out on me while in traffic, pulling out into traffic, and nearly avoided causing a crash that could have ended in death or sever injury. Why is this not being addressed??? I've had the transmission flushed by Nissan and also after the incident. The vehicle is available for inspection but will need to be towed. I should not have to fork out thousands of dollars to fix a major Nissan issue. This happened with no warning. Just failure. No warning lamps or symptoms.
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked and hesitated, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The driver was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart but was unable to shift into drive or reverse. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the cvt transmission fluid needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 204,000.
When trying to merge onto the interstate, the car didn't accelerate, causing other vehicles on the road to swerve around me. Afterwards, I noticed that the car was shaking or juddering at low revs (about 1,000 rpm). I internet searched for possible causes and found that this shaking was caused by a known problem with the cvt on my car (Nissan Murano). I bought the car (a 2015 Nissan Murano awd sl) in 2018 as a certified pre-owned vehicle only used by that Nissan dealership, it now has 63,841 miles on it. I needed the vehicle so I had the transmission replaced (I was told that 'fixing' the problem was not an option), at a cost of $7,157. 19. There was no warning, no lights on the dash, etc. I had also just had the car serviced at the dealership (on 8/3/24, which cost me $2,618. 55) where they replaced the cvt fluid as part of the service. I'm just lucky that the transmission didn't fail while I was actually going at a higher speed. Nissan needs to recall and/or replace these transmissions.
The transmission is failing and I recently found out there had been a recall on the cvt transmission and I would like to get it fixed by the company.
When starting my vehicle, it would shake and hesitate to turn on. While driving, it would hesitate when accelerating. When driving at 70 miles, the vehicle would hesitate then drop 3 to 4 miles below speed on its own. The dashboard would indicate drive mode then change to reverse mode then back to drive mode, then reverse mode continuously while driving. The car was also making a loud clanking noise. When I was at a standstill at a red light with foot on the brake, the car was jerking forward on its own. I was driving the car with my 2 year old when this happened and decided to take it to a mechanic who confirmed that it is a transmission problem as well as a broken axle on the left. I left the car at his shop and started shopping around for a transmission replacement which is very costly. My concern is, if this has been a faulty issue with 2009 Nissan Murano transmissions, then it is likely that this can happen again if I purchase a used transmission which at this time, I cannot afford so it is sitting at the mechanics repair shop until I either save money for a transmission or use the money to get a better used vehicle. At this time I have to take my mom to work and use her car so I can go to work. I’ve been doing this for the past 2 weeks and unsure as to how much longer I can keep doing this as our work hours are conflicting.
Cvt transmission gears slipping. Obd ii code states stepper motor malfunction. This has caused the vehicle to go from 75 mph to 45 so quickly it almost caused an accident on the freeway. The most recent incident happened today. The transmission started whining and rpms went high. This looks to be an issue for more Muranos than necessary and should be considered a recall problem.
While trying to accelerate and merge onto the highway, the transmission began to increase in rpms but would not accelerate. There are no warning light or anythign that would inform us of a failure. This almost caused an accident because I could not get up to speed. Then the transmission began juddering at low speeds and has continued. This is a sign the transmission is failing according to Nissan. Upon research, there are many complaints out there about the transmission in the Nissans. There was a class action suit that required Nissan to extend the warranty of their drivetrain. For some reason, the Murano was excluded from this list even though it shares the same issues and the same transmission as the pathfinder, which was recalled/warranty extended. These vehicles are a timebomb when they will fail and could cause multiple accidents. They knowly have an issue that they wont fix that could take someone life.
The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Murano. The contact stated while starting the vehicle and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle started shuddering. The contact had changed the air filter however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the continuously variable transmission had failed and the cvt needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact became aware of a recall campaign; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 51,812.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Murano sl. The contact stated while driving 65 mph the vehicle loss power. The check engine was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who would not perform the work due to recalls on the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but has not been repaired. The contact stated the vehicle was repaired under a previous manufacturer recall that replaced the transmission, however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 166,000.
My car hesitates then launches after a stop. It is the cvt transmission I assume. It is not safe when I am accelerating into traffic or trying to merge. Only 132,000 miles on the car.
I bought a Murano on 3/31/2016 with 17,000 miles on it. I now have 58,000 miles on it & dealership says I need a new transmission. I had no idea that there was a cvt transmission when I bought it. It was never explained or disclosed about the class action lawsuit with these transmissions. I understand these defective transmissions can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicles when it stuttering & jerking at low speeds. My car has been doing this at about 20,000 miles. I have had every recommended service done on the car, including the 30,000 miles transmission maintenance. There have been 2 disturbance alerts with 2 issues that come up on a app on my phone stating 2 issues critical. 1. Cylinder 2 misfire detected/code p0302 & 2. Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected/code p0300. I told the dealership about these issues but they could never find anything wrong with the car.
On 01/20/2024 I was on my way to the park with my nephew when my car suddenly stalled while turning in a busy intersection I had help moving it into a safe place I took it in to new rochelle in purchase a car in 2019 in 2020 Nissan had to replaced the cvt transmission in 3 years same transmission is no longer working. Nissan cvt transmission has been known to have major problem and refused to repair the transmission.

Car began shaking on acceleration and low speeds and wouldn't stop shaking until approx 40mph or above. Upon braking to take a right hand turn car died, just stopped accelerating even though all lights on and running. No response at all when pushing pedal to the floor. Would go in reverse but only very low speed. Replaced alternator. Seemed ok but 4 months later same exact problem happened and car is not drivable again.
This has happened on two different occasions. While driving the vehicle the alternator has gone out and there is no warning that there is any problem but you lose your throttle control and the car loses power and is unable to accelerate. The 1st time this happened I was in the middle of an intersection trying to make a left turn and lost all power to be able to move the car. Luckly no one was coming in the other direction, or I could have been involved in a serious accident!!! I had the alternator check and it was bad, so we replaced it. The second time this happened was two days ago I was doing 65 mph on a four-lane highway and without any warning I lost power and could not accelerate I was able to pull to the side of the road, but m emergency flashers were of no use due to the battery was low because the entire car was using it for power. The car has no gauge or light of any type to warn you that the alternator has failed till you lose power and are unable to accelerate.
Loss power I ,studding had a overheating in transmissonsounds whinning , bumps, locking up hesatation sudden lurching at home in driveway.
2 months ago I bought vehicle for $4300 and found out 3 weeks ago that the frame is broken. The car is very squirrely on wet roads- no wonder? it's very dangerous and it's going to cost more than the car is worth to fix it.

I bought this Nissan Murano after the owner of suncoast quality cars gives me the nada - consumers report, which states the car was scored as an 82, in "good condition" with major repairs needed. After picking the Murano up 1-week after I made the purchase, when driven more than a couple of miles, you could feel the transmission slipping. While the owner of suncoast said that his mechanic had done a full diagnostic test and had confirmed nada's scoring, just to make sure I took it to courtesy Nissan of tampa and paid for their certified Nissan mechanics to do a full diagnostic test. Courtesy Nissan's diagnostic test revealed that the transmission would need to be replaced, which while I did purchase a used car warranty from suncoast, the car has been out of commission since roughly a week after receiving delivery from suncoast. When I contacted bart pilipajc (owner) by email on 4-separate occasions, from 2-separate email addresses, and text, he states he never received them. Given the owner's approach, and refusing to own up to his lies, or take any kind of responsibility here, I would like a full refund, as I would have never purchased the car, if I knew it had a major safety issue and would have to have the transmission replaced immediately after delivery, and I most certainly wouldn't have paid the price of a car that nada stated was in "good condition", as the cost of the transmission is actually 65% of the price I paid for the car. With the transmission needing to be replaced, the same measuring tool (nada) that suncoast used to sell me the car, actually states the car is worth thousands-less. Attached, you will also find a copy of the results from the certified Nissan mechanic at courtesy Nissan of tampa. Warm regards, david heacock david. Heacock76@yahoo. Com 813-588-1753.
35 complaints on the cvt transmission failing for the 2011 Nissan Murano, which could be a major safety issue while driving. We experienced 3 episodes and have not heard back from Nissan nor the NHTSA on recalling this car and having Nissan repair their known defect that could result in injury. We know the cvt transmission is known by Nissan to have reliability issues as they have recalled other years of cvt transmissions. Does someone have to be hurt before a fix is communicated to the owners of this vehicle. What a shame!.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission seal. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who confirmed the diagnosis and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who diagnosed failures with the axel seals, rear differential axle seal, and left tpms sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 139,000.
While driving car several times on the highway, when accelerating all power went out from the cvt transmission (like running out of gas), rendering the car without power on the highway. This was and continues to be a big concern as we were left on a high speed road with no power to move the car. This has occurred several times and we have been fortunate to be in the right hand lane to get off the main road and not cause an accident. This condition is known by Nissan and other repair facilities as the Infiniti dealer in orlando, fla conducted a diagnostic test and noted the car needed a transmission replacement at approximately 88,000 miles. This replacement was for $12,220 dollars, which was far more than the car was worth and with a car that should have many more miles left to operate and maintained very well. As this is a major safety issue, one of several with this car, we are submitting another incident report indicating our concern with this car, which there are many (rear subframe rusting, rear passenger door locks). The car got towed approximately 200 miles to our local mechanic who knew of these issues, but after a few days of test driving could not duplicate the issue on local roads. We still operate the car on local roads below highway speeds, but are concerned that at any point power will be lost. Even selling the car is an ethical dilemma for us as we know of several safety issues submitted to the NHTSA and Nissan has not issued any recalls or corrections to this year vehicle. Someone from the NHTSA should take action with Nissan to recall this vehicle for safety issues! as with other incidents, we have all the documentation from these events.
2013 Nissan Murano cvt transmission known issue with cvt low pressure no fix only option is to replace transmission for more than the vehicle. Transmission will fail without any warning.
This car I purchased two months ago has the cvt transmission in it and has proven unsafe for regular traffic let alone highway driving. It randomly “lurches” , has a loss of power and hesitates when accelerating or lane changing .

Problems with Nissan Murano cvt transmission - transmission slips with loss of power/acceleration while in traffic, then jerks or lurches forward. No codes (dtc) registered for the symptoms. Dangerous for myself and other drivers as this occurs without warning. Fortunate not to end up in an accident. Nissan manuals do not recommend precautions or service for this. Now faced with all repair costs.
Driving within a few miles headed home from work my car began to loose power as if it wanted to die out on me. It struggled tremendously to gain rpm as if it wasn't getting any gas. I had reached a red traffic light and was afraid it would shut off while awaiting on light to turn green. It would not pick up speed and was shaking badly. Eventually my check engine light appeared but I was already arriving home thankfully. Sadly, upon doing my research of troubleshooting possible issues for Nissan Murano online I came across many issues regarding the transmission. Worse of it all, Nissan has been well informed of this ongoing issue. A class action was filed in 2016 but it appears that was a limited time. My issue has just begun regarding my transmission, so how does this help anyone who is just now dealing with this type of issue? anyone else with recent similar issue your feedback is greatly appreciated.
