1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2013 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/03/2019

On August 3, 2019 my wife and I were driving our 2013 Murano on a two-lane state highway (colorado 133) between redstone and marble when without warning the transmission stopped working, leaving the engine running normally. It was like the car shifted into neutral. We were then coasting on the highway while we looked for a safe place to stop on the shoulder of the road out of the lane of traffic. Fortunately the car following us was not too close to be endangered by our lower speed. This was a dangerous condition. The odometer read 87,861 miles. We had owned the vehicle for almost 3 years at that point and had driven it in a normal fashion. We had not towed anything nor driven off road or exposed the car to any hazardous conditions. Ultimately the car had to be towed to the nearest dealer, located in grand junction, colorado, 121 miles away, to have the transmission replaced. At that time we learned that the transmission was the cvt model using belts and not gears. The dealer told us the belts had shredded inside the transmission. The normal 50,000 mile warranty had passed, so we were faced with replacing the transmission at our own expense, approximately $4,000. We think this is unacceptable when we hear of cars going into the upper 100,000's and even 200,000 miles on the same transmission. We also learned that Nissan had problems with earlier cvt-equipped cars and extended the warranty to 100,000 miles, but the 2013 model year had not experienced enough failures to justify increasing the warranty period. Basically, we think 87,861 miles is unacceptable for the life of a transmission. We hope Nissan will compensate us for our expenses.

2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2017 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

While accelerating mixed between pulling from zero mph upwards of 40mph the vehicle has a high pitched squealing sound. This happens on any roadway while the car is in motion. It does not happen when the brakes are being used, only while accelerating and pushing the throttle. My transmission will sometimes hesitate or think when shifting from reverse to another gear. Sometimes it is very loud was a large thunk sound coming from underneath the car. The car also seems to make a whining noise when shifting out of different gates. (park, reverse, drive, etc) I have had the dealership check multiple times and they say it is normal operation. I've taken out other Nissan Murano's in the same model and it does not do this.

5 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

My 2003 Nissan Murano awd had 88,300 miles on it, and began vibrating while I was on a 4-lane road. As I tried to pull it off into a parking lot on the left, it came out of gear, and stopped in the center of a busy intersection. It would not go back into gear, and would not rev, but it was idling. The check engine light never came on. It was a dangerous situation, and I called 911, because I was afraid that my stalled car would cause an accident. Then 2 men offered to help push the car into the parking lot. They did, but they put themselves in harm's way in the still busy intersection. Two Nissan dealerships diagnosed the car as needing a new transmission, and I have had to replace it at a cost of $6000.

6 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/18/2008

My 2004 Nissan Murano, with 75,000 miles started to have transmission problems. It would not accelerate, and seemed not to shift into gear. Then it just stopped. Eventually it would not shift at all, and when put into gear, the car would thump and then stall or die. The Nissan dealer, bill hood Nissan, hammond, louisiana said they would need to replace with a new transmission. . . This original charge was $4,635. I cannot afford this expense so I was not able to have the work done there. After reading the Nissan owner's website postings, I found that this has been a recurring problem with a very large number of Nissan Murano owners. . . So much so, that I personally believe Nissan should have recalled this transmission. I am a very upset Nissan customer, as the normal drivetrain warranty is only 60,000 miles, and not the usual implied warranty of 100,000 miles. I am hoping that by positing this, others may become aware of this issue, before it is too late, and they end up making payments on a transmission replacement, -or- please purchase the extended drivetrain warranty from Nissan.
