196 problems related to radiator have been reported for the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder based on all problems reported for the 2005 Pathfinder.

36 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

The torque convertor in the transmission failed. I noticed the vehicle stuttering at different speeds during my time on the road. I had an independent mechanic check it and a Nissan dealer confirm the diagnosis. I was told the radiator and the entire transmission had to be replaced. I found numerous complaints on-line similar to mine; the 2005 model showed the most problems with the transmission. I don't have the $5,000 to repair the vehicle. The company extended some warranties due to this problem, but all had expired or I had too many miles (131,000), and a copay of $3000 was required. Not much of an offer from a large thriving company.

37 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

Vehicle stalled. Check engine light displayed. Took vehicle to security Nissan in baltimore, MD to get checked out. Was informed by technician "radiator cooler is leaking coolant into automatic transmission". Technician recommends transmission assembly, radiator with radiator cap, and flush cooler lines. Extended warranty states repairs are not covered. Total bull! cost of repairs $6000! contacted Nissan to see how they would assist with this problem and was basically told they wouldn't. Nissan corp was aware of this problem since 2010. This situation could have been resolved with a recall to repair "crack in the radiator assembly leading to internal leakage of engine coolant". What could have been a couple hundred dollars or repairs by Nissan now is a few thousand dollars to consumers because of the neglect from Nissan corp and many of it's certified dealers to make consumers aware of this problem. We purchased this vehicle in 2011 and not once did the dealer mention that this was a known problem nationwide.

38 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

I got my oil changed at team Nissan in lithia springs, and on the 2nd day of driving the vehicle my 2005 Pathfinder overheated. I immediately called team Nissan and told them of the problem, and they told me that they apologize and to bring it in. Well the SUV was too hot to put on the road at that point so I stopped by wal-mart to add coolant. I let the truck cool off and then added coolant. The levels then appeared normal and I made my way to team Nissan. When I got there they told me that they could see me and to come back the next day. While I was talking with the rep. I noticed that there was a guy topping off my fluids under the hood. When I came back the next day, they check it and told me that I had no coolant and that my radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission and that the fluids were mixing. The repairs totaled up to $5028. 43 incluiding a radiator replacement, coolant flush, and a transmission replacement. I told him that I had heard of other recalls and complaints about this (I had just heard one of the reps call a customer and tell him that his recall om the same issues were complete and that he could pick up his vehicle), but he said that nothing was showing in the system. I then told him that I could not get that done at thia time and I enquired that I have not had this issue at other places after an oil change. He gave me an excuse as the guy did the day before and shrugged me off. He suggested that I needed to check the coolant every other day and that the problem was likely to continue. So the waiting game begins.

39 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

Not sure if this is the right choice but I am filing a complaint about my radiator and transmission w fluids mixing this vehicle has had do many issues I have spent a fortune which I do not have. All I wat is peace of mind knowing I will reach my destination safely. I ask that Nissan take responsibilty and recall these defective radiators.

40 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2014

Radiator fluid has leaked into my transmission, due to a factory defective radiator. My transmission is damaged and will not shift into 5th gear. The transmission will have to be repaired or replaced along with the radiator.

41 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

Vehicle revved erratically, then jerked then cut off . Took vehicle to dealer who diagnosed the problem as "radiator full of oil and transmission fluid and smells burnt-fluids mixing-need transmission.

42 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

I was driving the car and when on the onramp of the freeway, the car lost power and shut down. Nissan dealership said the radiator leaked fluid onto the transmission causing it to loose power. They said I need a new transmission and radiator but will not cover the warranty which was settle in us district court of new york. They want to charge me $5300 for the repairs. This is clearly a faulty design of the Nissan Pathfinder series and website searches verify that the problem exits for thousands of Nissan Pathfinders for the years of 2005-2010 in relations to a radiator crack and fluid leaking onto the transmission.

43 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

Purchased this SUV from a private owner who replaced the radiator and transmission cooler years ago, had it confirmed from their mechanic and when I drove this Pathfinder it has a bump in the trans. Was told by Nissan of paducah, autozone of paducah that it was the cat converter was plugged. Replaced the cat converter, still has the bump/slip in the transmission. Found out through several websites and forums that Nissan needs to do a recall on this problem. I've been part of z clubs in the USA for over 25 years and a loyal Nissan owner and can't believe Nissan won't take care of this problem in their SUV's and small trucks. . .

44 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

I noticed that the temperature gauge was reading a little high so I took it to a friend and he said there was oil in the radiator when the cap was removed. He recommended that I take the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer said I had to pay a CO-pay of $2500. 00 to replace the radiator and the transmission because the warranty had expired.

45 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

I started having trouble with my car exceeding as I would push the gas petal. This started happening around 140,000 miles on the vehicle. I took in to a mechanic who stated that it may be the radiator. I purchased a new radiator and as he put it in he said it looked as if the fluids were mixed. I put all new fluids in the car. Still I couldn't get the car to exceed past 30 mph. I parked the car because of the cost in repair. I finally took it to the Nissan dealer who confirmed that it was my transmission that was gone in the car.

46 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

While traveling down the highway at approximately 40 miles per hour I felt like I was riding over rumble strips in the road. The road was smooth, so that was not the problem. I later found out that I had a transmission problem. Upon further investigation, I found that the radiator coolant fluid leaked into the transmission and destroyed both the transmission and radiator. Upon further investigation I found that this is a problem experienced by many other Nissan Pathfinder owners (years 2005 - 2010). This is definitely a manufacturing defect not recognized by Nissan.

47 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

Lost all acceleration power; barely moved with full gas. Diagnosed as radiator fluid leak into the transmission.

48 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

Transmission just out of no where starts jerking and over heating took to the dealership and they told me that coolant/transmission fluid cross contamination due to internal radiator/transmission fluid cooler failure to fix the problem it will cost 4700. 00 after doing some research have found that there is more Nissan owners having this very issue please Nissan you need to do a recall on these transmissions if not ill never buy a Nissan ever again. I mean who has that kind of money to spend on a part that is internal and not able to be maintenanced how do we know its going bad? OH yea it just stops working I have a family of 5 and we travel the interstate alot im glad I wasn't on the interstate at this particular time. Could have been very tragic if some one hit us because of a malfunction like this.

49 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

I am an owner of a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. On 12/05/13 the transmission and radiator on my car failed with no warning on a deserted road. I had my car towed to Nissan where they told me that it would cost 5,100 dollars to repair. I later learned that there had previously been a lawsuit against Nissan for transmission and radiator failure and the make and model of my car was included. After learning this information I called Nissan back and they stated that they only covered it up to 100,000 miles and my car is at 136,000 miles so it would be my responsibility to fix it. After doing research on line there are so many other people that are having these exact same issues and Nissan will do absolutely nothing about it and they are not willing to help with cost in any way.

50 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2013

Nearly got into an accident on the interstate when my car started jerking out of control and then slowed down drastically to less than 30 mph miles away from an exit ramp. My Pathfinder had to be towed to the dealership I purchased it from. Less than 100,000 miles and still under extended warranty. When I called to ask the service department to confirm what needs to be replaced, they said the my transmission has to be replaced from the damage by the coolant. A flush would be a patch fix that may not work, and only last a month best. My radiator has to be replaced- my car is overheating because of the failure. And my engine has to be completely flushed out- if not totally replaced because of the coolant flowing into the engine as well. Over $4000 possibly as high as $8000 according to the dealership. They said they can't even repair it because its so bad my car has to be sent off. Warranty company denied the claim because the issue is caused by faulty part "transmission cooler" which everyone is aware of and not covered under warranty. I paid $20,000 cash for my vehicle a year ago! Nissan lost a class action law suit earlier this year for thousands of dollars in damages, and I am too late to file. I can't believe the government hasn't forced a recall on this. Thousands of people and vehicles are affected and quit honestly its dangerous! I almost got killed on the interstate with my children in the car when everything failed. This happened on multiple years and the government is okay with this? the dealership and warranty company refuse to cover my claim. Someone needs to hold Nissan accountable. This is unacceptable!.

51 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2013

My family and I were driving home. We live in the mountains of wnc and as we were heading up and incline the transmission slipped and after much research I believe I am the owner of a Nissan vehicle with the transmission/coolant issue involved in the class action lawsuit in NY. However, because my vehicle has 154,000 miles on it and the issue just occurred I am unable to join the lawsuit. I still want you to be aware that this issue has no deadline on it and Nissan should be held accountable for every defective vehicle still on the road regardless of age and mileage. If the problem is specifically attributable to the defective radiator and Nissan has not fixed it then Nissan sold a defective vehicle, period. Had this defect not been built into the vehicle I am sure it would be operational right now. I also own a 2001 chevy cavalier with over 200,000 miles and it is still running!!! shame on Nissan!!!!.

52 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

I was driving from work to pick up my kids from school and felt my vehicle begin to jerk, my service engine light came on so I pulled into a gas staion near by. When I got out of my vehicle I saw a huge puddle of radiator fluid gushing out. I called my local Nissan dealership and they told me to bring it in but keep my eye on the h & c gauge and make sure it doesn't reach up to h by any means. So I go and pull out of the gas station and go about 2 blocks away and immediately the gauge was rising to h quickly, so I pull over and shut the truck off and called a tow-truck to have it towed to the dealership. After Nissan looked at my truck I'm to replace both radiator and transmission! I looked up my problems with my truck and found out that like I, many of other american people are having or had the same problem and Nissan doesn't want to acknowledge that this is a serious problem for any Nissan owner and issue a full recall on these specific problems. Instead I'm stuck paying a $3,000 CO-pay of a warranty that doesn't help me out at all. . . . I can't come up with that type of money spontaneously. My vehicle is my lifeline and now I'm without that due to on-going issue with Nissan Pathfinder trucks. Something has got to give seriously if I would've known that this was eventually going to happen (and it does happen) I would've never bought this truck plain & simple. . . I advise the consumers to stay away from Nissan unless they don't mind all the repairs and driving hasards Nissan has to offer.

53 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

I'm one of many victims that have endured faulty fuel sending units and inaccurate gas gauges that cause me to run out of gas while driving down the road. With such a widespread problem, it is a pure scam that no recall has been issued. Nissan simply extends the warranty to 72,000 miles, which does nothing to help the thousands of victims with more mileage. Just as they did with the radiator defect that contaminated the transmission, Nissan is getting away with offering help up only to the point when the problem begins to appear. This makes them appear they are doing something, but they are doing nothing for the vast majority of victims. How can you let them get away with this approach? it leaves victims without help, and leaves obviously defective cars on the road. It's dangerous to run out of gas on the side of the road, especially when you live in cold climates and have small children. Help.

54 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

I reported a complete loss of motive power. The auto repair diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer.

55 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

Due to a design defect, I have radiator fluid leaking into and ruining my transmission. I learned that Nissan has recognized the problem and has extended the warranty. However, because the vehicle has above 80,000 miles I have a CO-pay of $2,500. I find this unfair. This problem is not due to miles driven or operator error. This is a design defect and to require customers to pay thousands to fix Nissan's engineering problem is wrong. I feel I have been taken advantage of. Nissan should cover the full cost of the repair regardless of mileage because the problem results from a design flaw.

56 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 30 mph independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the radiator and transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being inspected by the dealer for a second opinion. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

57 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

Failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid. The radiator had to be replaced, possible damage to transmission.

58 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Transmission oil in radiator, cause car to over heat. Most likely need new transmission and radiator. Just over Nissan 100,000 mile warranty and they won't cover the replacement. And if the would want me to pay 3,000 out of my pocket for a know defective part. I feel this needs to be recall and Nissan expense and fix my car.

59 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 62,880.

60 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

There is is problem with this model vehicle. Thousands of people are having the same problem. The radiator has a leak in it causing the transmission oil to mix with the radiator coolant creating a mixture of gravy type substance. The transmission and the radiator are filled up with this substance. The engine is not being cooled down. The vehicle starts to vibrate after a certain speed. When you pop up the hood it smells like plastic burning.

61 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

It's the typical Nissan Pathfinder (2005-2011) transmission/radiator failure due to fluids from both devices mixing and causing catastrophic failure of both. Nissan informs me that they certainly understand my problem, which is comforting, but will not pay a dime. Never buy another one.

62 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I experienced transmission shifting problems between 50-60 mph. Local service center diagnosed it as a defective radiator which allowed radiator fluid to get into the transmission fluid. After talking to other Pathfinder owners and checking the internet apparently Nissan was aware of their defect and tried to keep it hidden resulting in a class action lawsuit which was settled. Unfortunately I am out $1,500 for repairs and there is no guarantee I won't be replacing my transmission soon! can you help?.

63 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

My Pathfinder locked in 4wd while switch was still in 2wd and would not start back after towing to dealership I find out it is the radiator leaking into the transmission and both will have to be replaced at $4900. 00. If my wife would of been on a road with more traffic it would of been bad for her and my two year old. We have only owned the car for a year and nothing but problems out of it and our altima. We have always been Nissan owners but will never buy again this is evidently a really common problem and Nissan's customer appreciation is awful.

64 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan altima. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine service when the contact was told that the radiator was leaking fluid into the transmission. The contact stated that the transmission had been hesitant. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 102,500.

65 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

They report in all instances that the dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. The complainants report no warning signs leading up to or just prior to the failures.

66 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Failed transmission due to contamination from radiator fluid.

67 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

It appears the radiator failed leaking coolant into the transmission. When I asked the mechanic about it he said that now your transmission will fail soon. I have been reading that this is very common and has happened alot with this year and model which I believe to be totally not acceptable.

68 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

The radiator is cracked and has leaked fluid into transmission.

69 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that radiator fluid leaked into the transmission. As a result, the transmission and radiator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 134,000.

70 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2013

From stop transmission failed to engage. Checked fluid found water in transmission from failed cooling line thru radiator/ trans cooling line.
