1 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2018

Known to Nissan corp, a design defect makes the engine radiator rust and leak into the transmission. My car has always been properly maintained and I jus took it to perform the 90,000 miles service. Coolant fluid was found in the transmission oil and dealer quoted me $6,884. 59. After a class action lawsuit I just learned about, Nissan has extended the warranty with partial copay up to 10years/100,000 miles whichever comes first. My vehicle is now out of warranty. This is something unacceptable and Nissan should be held accountable and fix it for free for life.

2 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

Was sitting at a red light on the way to work. Light turns green tries to accelerate and hardly anything happens besides a whining noise. Radiator fluid has leaked into transmission fluid causing a milkshake like fluid mix. Now Nissan dealer wants me to replace radiator, and transmission on my on dime. I have seen several forums where this has been the case. Now Nissan has not recalled this vehicle for any safety fixes of the nature.

3 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2018

Transmission started slipping. When I took my vehicle to the dealership, radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission causing me to have to replace not only the transmission but the radiator, hoses, etc.

4 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

My vehicle was recently diagnosed stating that the radiator had leaked fluid into the transmission and it would cost $6,200 to repair. My vehicle has 85,000 miles. I was never made aware of the extended warranty when I could have had it checked (the dealership did replace the transmission fluid once so the issue should have been taken care of then when it was under warranty). There is a vibration when the rpms settle around 1000-1500 after the vehicle has warmed up. It is intermittent, but was diagnosed by the Nissan dealer mechanic as the issue.

5 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Radiator fluid has leaked into the transmission, compromising the integrity of the transmission. I feel a shudder when the transmission hits 40 mph - 60 mph.

6 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Apparently there was a known issue regarding a radiator leaking fluid into the transmission causing the transmission to fail. I bought my vehicle a year ago with 117k miles and no one bothered to mention the issue to me. I did buy the extended warranty, but according to them, I'm out of luck because the warranty doesn't cover the radiator and the warranty doesn't cover "corrosion". I am disgusted by the way I've been treated and I feel like I've been scammed.

7 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving at approximately 15 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact mentioned that the vehicle jerked before resuming acceleration. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission fluid had leaked into the radiator, causing the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000. Jo.

8 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving approximately 45 mph, the transmission seized and the check engine warning light illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator fluid leaked into the transmission, which caused the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 158,000.

9 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine sensor light had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that fluid from the radiator had leaked into the transmission and the transmission and radiator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,400. Pam.

10 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

Nissan dealership just diagnosed that my radiator was leaking into my transmission. This was problematic because the radiator coolant has damaged the transmission. In April of 2014, I had had my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder to the same dealership for the same issue and they had flushed and replaced my transmission fluid.

11 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

The vehicle lagged shifting and shifted abruptly. Also the vehicle vibrated. When I took it to an auto shop (not a Nissan shop) they indicated the radiator had a crack in it and fluid was leaking into the transmission I took it to a Nissan shop and they said they are having problems with the 2005 Pathfinder and they would fix the problem but it would cost me $3000 and there would be no warranty on the fix. Seems unfair if, as they admitted at my local Nissan shop, this was a manufacture defect.

12 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

I was driving with my family on the highway when the a/t transmission began vibrating. Then the a/t transmission began slipping out of gear. Was able to coast to a gas station and inspect it. Transmission fluid has been leaking in my coolant tank and reservoir. Coolant has mixed with transmission fluid in the transmission and has caused catastrophic failure as a result.

13 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

Had a problem with the radiator leaking a couple of years ago. My mechanic told me to put in some fluid that seals up the leak. Worked well for a while. Then this may the transmission started making noises and vibrations. Took it to my mechanic and he tells me that the radiator has leaked into the transmission. About $1,000 to fix it. I say go ahead as what choice do I have. They replace the radiator and flush the transmission about 4 times. About a month later the transmission starts shifting into 4wd by itself and the car won't go anywhere while giving it gas. Turn it off then on and that fixes it. I take it to Nissan because my mechanic shop was closed. I explain my previous repairs and my problem. They tell me about the extended warranty. Ask me if I have a factory or after market radiator installed. I don't know. So I wait until Monday to talk to my original mechanic and they say it was an aftermarket. Nissan says this is a problem and after talking to the dealership and Nissan consumer affairs they tell me they can't honor the warranty. I ask them to maybe take a statement from my mechanic that he took out the original factory radiator and replaced it, but they say they need the original which was taken to the scrap yard. Nissan had to replace the accelarator pedal and now I think I will have to replace the transmission. Lesson learned that Nissan does not make good cars. And won't back them up either.

14 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

While driving uphill on the freeway, the transmission in our Nissan began to slip through gears. I had to get towed off the freeway. I took the vehicle to our mechanic and learned the radiator trans cooler was leaking radiator fluid into the automatic transmission system causing cross contamination and failure. Our mechanic flushed the trans system and replaced the radiator. The vehicle transmission operated okay for approx. 3 weeks then began to slip again. Now it will not shift out of first gear. I started checking into this an learned Nissan was facing a class action law suit in 2012 for radiator/trans oil cross contamination issues. There was a deadline on Nissan's settlement in early 2013 where they extended the warranty on the radiator to 100k and would cover subsequent repairs to the trans. My mileage exceeds 100k and I knew noting about the lawsuit back in 2012 and 2013 and did not have a trans problem then. Nissan will do nothing to help. Is there anything I can do besides fork out all this money to have the trans rebuilt.

15 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the engine rpms increased as the transmission failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis, who stated that radiator fluid leaked into the transmission and caused internal damage. The mechanic also stated that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

16 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

In short the transmission in my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder is and has failed. I was in a very dangerous situation on the hyway and jeopardized my family's and my life. The defective transmission/radiator breakdown is a serious situation and a known issue with these vehicles. My radiator fluid leaked into the transmission and failed. The amount to repair this vehicle and make this a safe vehicle is more than we can afford. I feel this faulty product should be recalled and necessary repairs made or a reimbursement made on behalf of Nissan.

17 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2014

Radiator fluid has leaked into my transmission, due to a factory defective radiator. My transmission is damaged and will not shift into 5th gear. The transmission will have to be repaired or replaced along with the radiator.

18 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

I was driving the car and when on the onramp of the freeway, the car lost power and shut down. Nissan dealership said the radiator leaked fluid onto the transmission causing it to loose power. They said I need a new transmission and radiator but will not cover the warranty which was settle in us district court of new york. They want to charge me $5300 for the repairs. This is clearly a faulty design of the Nissan Pathfinder series and website searches verify that the problem exits for thousands of Nissan Pathfinders for the years of 2005-2010 in relations to a radiator crack and fluid leaking onto the transmission.

19 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

While traveling down the highway at approximately 40 miles per hour I felt like I was riding over rumble strips in the road. The road was smooth, so that was not the problem. I later found out that I had a transmission problem. Upon further investigation, I found that the radiator coolant fluid leaked into the transmission and destroyed both the transmission and radiator. Upon further investigation I found that this is a problem experienced by many other Nissan Pathfinder owners (years 2005 - 2010). This is definitely a manufacturing defect not recognized by Nissan.

20 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

Lost all acceleration power; barely moved with full gas. Diagnosed as radiator fluid leak into the transmission.

21 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

Due to a design defect, I have radiator fluid leaking into and ruining my transmission. I learned that Nissan has recognized the problem and has extended the warranty. However, because the vehicle has above 80,000 miles I have a CO-pay of $2,500. I find this unfair. This problem is not due to miles driven or operator error. This is a design defect and to require customers to pay thousands to fix Nissan's engineering problem is wrong. I feel I have been taken advantage of. Nissan should cover the full cost of the repair regardless of mileage because the problem results from a design flaw.

22 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph and there was a slight loss of transmission power with severe hesitation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis andy they informed the contact that the transmission line was cracked and transmission fluid was leaking. The transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 66,889.

23 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan altima. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine service when the contact was told that the radiator was leaking fluid into the transmission. The contact stated that the transmission had been hesitant. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 102,500.

24 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2013

The vehicle has had all sorts of issues starting with the brakes when one brake shoe totally disintegrated and evidently ruptured brake lines at around 61,000 miles. New brake replacement almost $900. Since that time (the vehicle now has 75000 miles) the transmission has continually slipped, the gas gauges and all other gauges work intermittently, and the emissions test last month showed possible catalytic converter issues (there are evidently two). When taken in for service the service technician suggested I get rid of the vehicle because it was notorious for cross contamination of coolant and transmission fluid. Continuing to drive it would eventually destroy the transmission, and even now may have permanent damage. When contacting Nissan about possible recalls and the supposed settled class action lawsuit concerning the transmission contamination, I was told I would need documentation of all service done to the vehicle to receive $800 toward the necessary $3800 repair cost just for the contamination leak. If anyone is considering purchasing this or any other Nissan product, I would avoid it at all cost.

25 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that radiator fluid leaked into the transmission. As a result, the transmission and radiator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 134,000.

26 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

I started off at an intersection in heavy traffic where I live in atlanta, GA. My truck would not move. The engine revved when given gas but would not go forward. I was in panic mode because of the traffic and I had my family in the car. I was told by a Nissan rep that radiator fluid is leaking into my transmission fluid and causing it to fail. He said eventually it will fail for good. These vehicles need to be recalled by Nissan!!!!!!! this is a known issue and is very dangerous!! this must be addressed before someone loses a life at the hands of a faulty transmission!. Also this is a very expensive repair for me. Please do something!!.

27 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel continuously. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that there was a combination of both the transmission fluid and coolant leaking together, which could cause damage to the transmission. The manufacturer offered an extended warranty associated with a manufacturer's voluntary recall related to the transmission. The vehicle was ineligible due to the excessive mileage. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 119,072.

28 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

I was driving . It did a click sound when changing shifts from 1 to second. I took itthe mechanic and I was told the transmission had leak some fluid damage because the radiator had a leakage. I changed the radiator and heater assambly hose that it was damage, too. To replace a re-build trans. I was told that I need 5k that I don't have it rigth now. But, sooner of later I have to replace it. I called my dealer and I was told that I'm in my own. Because my car has 137k miles. I found out that there are more than a few owners with the same problem.

29 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2013

I purchased the vehicle from carmax in 2012 w/ 76k miles on it. No warning about possible radiator issue. In may of 2013, radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission and resulted in transmission failure at 96k miles. (thankfully, I was not merging onto a highway). Paid $3k CO-pay to have transmission and radiator replaced. February 4, 2014, transmission hose blew while driving on the highway. Was assured that it was not related to the previous repairs. Paid $262 to have it fixed. March 9, 2014, was driving on highway, rpms spiked, acceleration was sluggish, made it to nisan dealership - transmission failure (less than 1 year later) - 105k miles. I was very fortunate that these transmission failures did not occur while attempting to merge onto a busy highway.

30 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and the transmission slipped out of gear. All of the instrument panel warning lights illuminated when the failure occurred. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer stated that the relay pack malfunctioned and the transmission was defective due radiator fluid leaking into the transmission. There was also transmission fluid that leaked into the radiator. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000.

31 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

I was driving and stopped at a traffic signal. When the light turned green and I pressed the gas pedal the vehicle moved less than 5 m. P. H. This continued all the way to church on March 10th, 2013. I drove to the vehicle to the dealer and 2 days later they diagnosed the issue. The radiator was leaking coolant into the transmission, cross contaminating the transmission fluid. This caused the valve body in the transmission to fail. The Nissan dealer informed me that the radiator and valve body in the transmission had to be replaced. They also informed me that my power train warranty was expired because I was over 100,000 miles and my vehicle is at 104,000. I was told that Nissan wouldn't cover the repair even though the radiator is defective but since I caught it early the transmission wasn't totally damaged just partially damaged saving me more money. However, my repair bill was $2,999. 94!! even the mechanics at Nissan told me that this is an known issue (off the record) and Nissan should cover the repair!! this is due to a defective radiator and Nissan should issue a recall. Consumers shouldn't have to foot the bill for a manufacturing defect that Nissan is aware of! it effects 2005 thru 2010 Pathfinder, xterra and frontier vehicles. Nissan is voluntarily offering to CO-pay for repairs if your vehicle has less than 100,000 miles because of a class action lawsuit that is still pending in court. The issue only occurs after 100,000 miles leaving millions of consumers on the hook for an obvious manufacturing defect!! please help us recover the cost of this expensive repair?? please!!!!.

32 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

Transmission cooler leaks, allowing transmission fluid and engine coolant to mix, leading to automatic transmission damage. Nissan dealer is aware of the incident and offer a $2500 decuctible, this is not a fair deductible and Nissan is not playing a fari game.

33 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, a strong burning odor emitted from under the hood and the vehicle lost acceleration power. The contact was able to move the vehicle into a parking area. The contact inspected the vehicle and found smoke. The contact drove the vehicle home. The mechanic inspected the vehicle and found that the radiator failed and caused the radiator fluid to leak into the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 127,525.

34 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

My Pathfinder began to shudder and make a deep rumbling noise while trying to maintain a constant speed anywhere between 40-55pmh. I took it to the dealership this morning and was told this afternoon that there was a crack in the intercooler inside the radiator and it had leaked coolant into the transmission fluid. It has caused major damage to the transmission. The radiator and the transmission has to be replaced. The tech said the estimated cost will be $5300.

35 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2013

I was at a stop light in washington d. C, when the light turned green the vehicle refused to move. Some kind people helped to push the vehicle and it was later towed to my home. I later serviced the transmission fluid and discovered that the radiator had failed and leaked into transmission. After changing the radiator the transmission remained inoperable. I have not been able to drive the car since. I am still making payment on the car even though I cannot drive it.
