1 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2017

Purchased vehicle in 2005. In 2017 took to dealership with problem of loss of power to transmission on freeway while my daughter needed to pull over due to problem. Problem of noise in engine timing belt was also told of at dealership. With extended warranty of 10yrs. /100,000mi. They said they were not liable & needed $6971. 28 to repair. Vehicle had 80,825 miles on it but was two years out of coverage. After finding out in 2013 a lawsuit was filed by mendelsohn and mazie slater katz & freeman for known defect to Nissan, problem was never contacted to me for some reason? was just informed by falco v. Nissan notice administrator to file paperwork on known problem with engine timing belt for possible 20% return of payment made to repair of defective tensioner assembly. Why four years ago was I not informed of radiator leak causing possible damage to vehicle & possible injury to driver?.

2 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

I began to hear a noise and hesitation in gear change. Told tires but continue to hear. Had a oil change at twin city Nissan. Rep advice coolant in transmission would charge $3000 to repair and warranty on radiator expires soon. Radiator and transmission and fluids flushed for $3000 cost to me. Contact 1800 Nissan 1 and told over 368 complaints its manufacturing defect he advice can't. Help.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2015

I took my Pathfinder into a local shop because I started hearing noise coming from the transmission at around 45 mph. I was informed antifreeze got into my transmission fluid due to a radiator failure. The shop replaced the radiator and flushed the tranny. Over a $600 bill. The shop hoped it would fix the problem without rebuilding or replacing the transmission. No luck!! now I am looking at another $4000 plus on something that should never have happened. I was told by many shops including the local dealer that this is a known problem. If proactive by the manufacture could have been fixed with replacement of the radiator. Instead, Nissan decided to extend the warranty. Never informing customers to have inspected for premature failure of the radiator or tranny.

4 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate to respond when depressing the accelerator pedal and an abnormal noise was present coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission valve body failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned that the transmission was previously replaced in August of 2014. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000.

5 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2014

Transmission failure making a left turn with oncoming traffic. No warning, no prior, noise or vibration, just a sudden total failure. The cause has been diagnosed as the leaking coolant from the transmission radiator. The current Nissan 'extended warranty' is not sufficient given the nature of the problem and the risks associated with a transmission failure during driving.

6 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2013

I was leaving an appointment at the hospital and as I approached a speed bump I heard a loud drop noise and the vehicle would no longer move upon pressing the gas. There was a complete loss of motive power. I put the vehicle in park and turned it off and then on again and it went into gear however I was unable to accellerate over 40mph and headed straight to a dealership. I received a call on from the dealer diagnosing the problem as a failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer.

7 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle fire that was caused by a defect. The consumer stated the vehicle caught on fire while his wife was driving. His wife felt a jerking motion when she pushed down on the accelerator. His wife pulled over, when suddenly another motorist informed her the vehicle was on fire. Once she exited the vehicle, there was a loud boom noise, which was believed to be the battery exploding. Within in seconds, the uncontrollable flames literally engulfed the entire vehicle. An investigator believed the cause of the fire was a failure in the transmission.

8 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2012

On two separate occasions, I cannot remember the date of the first incident. My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder stalled and would not accelerate. My family was in the vehicle and we were leaving a place of business, which was kind of on a hill and when I tried to accelerate the vehicle would not move, but started to go backward. I cut the vehicle off and tried again and we were off and going, until we were on the road and in traffic going about 45mph the vehicle started to stall, and we had to get ourselves out of traffic. I gt the vehicle going again and everything seemed to go fine for about 2 weeks, then on sept 15 I woke early to take a family member to a weekend class, as I was driving down my street I heard a noise coming from the 2005 Pathfinder I rolled my window down to hear the sound as I was listening the sound went away and all of a sudden I was approaching the traffic light the vehicle began to stall, I was pushing on the gas and it would not go, the light was green and I had cars behind me. I had to turn my hazard lights on and try to get myself out of the middle of the road to safety, once I did I had to park my vehicle in a business parking lot at a shopping center that is close to my home. At this point my vehicle is parked due to the fact that it will not accelerate when put in drive. I have talked to Nissan dealership and they have advised that they have heard of the radiator/transmission fluid mix and this seems to be the case with my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, and that it is costly to get it repaired. The cost is ultimately left up to me, and I feel as if this is a Nissan issue that has been an ongoing issue for quite some time for some other Nissan customers that needs to be considered a recall and Nissan should be fixing this manufacturing problem.

9 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2012

We were traveling about 35 mph in town and heard a grinding noise. The Nissan would'nt move and there was transmission fluid running out of under it. We had to have it towed home. Where it still sits.

10 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

I took in my Pathfinder this week after weeks of hearing a deep noise coming from the engine when I tried to accelerate around 2000 rpm. Turns out the radiator wall cracked and came apart allowing the coolant and transmission fluid to mix together. Apparently this has been a problem in Pathfinders, especially the 2005 model. I had the radiator replaced (total cost $1,671. 61) but was told this is probably a band-aid fix because there's no way to tell how much damage has been done to the transmission.

11 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2011

Transmission started sliipping started jerking while driving, alsosounded like tires were making noise especially around 40 mph. I was driving on rt 62 near my home and was very fortunate not being t-boned as a pulled out,my Pathfinder didnt go like it was supposed to, fortunately the oncoming vehicle stopped. I took it to a Nissan dealer and they said that the 2005,2006,2007 Pathfinder were known to have an issue with the cooler failing and breaking down the transmission and that they knew about the faulty cooler for along time. Nissan said they increased the warranty from 60,000 to 80,000 but other than that they have done nothing. And didnt inform the public. My family and I, didnt get hurt or hurt someone else, however this scenario could be very dangerous and Nissan should inform the public and recall the transmission and faulty cooler before deaths start happpening.

12 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving at 30-40 mph, the transmission began making a shuddering noise. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and then took it to a local mechanic who stated that the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that the fuel gauge stopped functioning at 50,000 miles. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000. The current mileage was 88,562.

13 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

2005 Nissan Pathfinder with 106,000 miles has had 3 transmissions replaced since June 2009. Dealership covered them under warranty, but now other non-warranty issues are occurring which were caused by those transmission failures. Vehicle has had the transcooler replaced, hoses, and radiator replaced and flushed. . . At my cost. Vehicle makes a dangerously loud vibrating noise between 40-60 mph and begins to shake. Almost causing an accident. Parts that were replaced were kept at the dealership and are not available at this time. This is a recurring problem that happens every 2 months or so.

14 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

I just recently purchased a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Just a couple of short weeks after owning the vehicle, I began to notice a strange vibration noise (like you are driving over a grooved surface) coming from the vehicle around 2000-2500 rpms or 45-65 mph. . Read more...

15 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

2005 Nissan Pathfinder has problems with antifreeze leaking into the transmission because of some design flaw. After researching this problem I see that there are many complaints of this occurring with this same particular model. The transmission starts to make a grinding noise and then will start slipping. Nissan is aware of the problem because they are the one that has diagnosed it over and over again, but have refused to issue a TSB or recall. This is a very serious defect and is costing people 5 to 10 thousand dollars to fix. My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder has just begun the tell tale symptoms of this costly problem. Nissan should consider the problems that Toyota is having right now and issue a recall for this defect.

16 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving at various speeds, the brake pedal vibrated when it was depressed. The contact heard an abnormal noise that came from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the suspension needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
