2 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2004 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/20/2004

The top of my shoe rubs against the wiring harness above the accellerator pedal. This is disconcerting because it sometimes (depending on the exact position of the heel of my foot on the floor) requires extra effort to remove my foot from the accellerator pedal. It takes an extra fraction of a second to move my foot to the brake pedal, and I feel this is dangerous. I have gone to the dealer service department and they will not move the wires. I have also called the manufacturer's service number and they will not recommend any changes. I just want to make a note that my shoe size is not particularly large (size 10), and that I drive with the heel of my foot on the floor (I don't lift my foot up to hit the wiring harness).

5 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2004 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/13/2004

While braking for a red light the consumer depressed the brake and accelerator pedal simultaneously. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. This may have occurred because the gas and brake pedal are too close.

6 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/29/2003

This is the second 1998 Nissan Pathfinder I've owned with the same problem. The throttle sticks in the upright position forcing one to apply great force to proceed from a stopped position. This has been dangerous on more than one occasion and near misses have occured especially when stopped behind another vehicle at a traffic light.

7 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/11/2003

On March 11, 2003, my Nissan Pathfinder was involved in an incident of unexplained sudden acceleration. The vehicle was already shifted into drive, and my foot was on the brake pedal while I was waiting for a red light to change. Suddenly, the Pathfinder lurched forward at a high speed. Almost simultaneously, I heard a loud noise coming out of the motor. The noise sounded like the one produced by an increase in the number of motor revolutions. I turned off the engine immediately when I realized that that I could not stop the vehicle by depressing the foot pedal. Fortunately, no persons or vehicled were at the street intersection when the vehicle jumped forward. My wife was in the passsenger's seat at the time. On March 12, 2003, I took the Pathfinder to Nissan's service department to correct this problem. Nissan's service advisor told me that the vehicle needed a clean-up of the entire fuel system. So, he scheduled a bg fuel induction service to rectify the problem. The Pathfinder had 32,149 miles at the time. My records show that maintenance on the Pathfinder has been performed as scheduled at bill seidle's Nissan. Prior to the incident, a major routine maintenance had been scheduled and performed at 30,000 miles on oct. 16, 2002. No additional failure occurred until Aug. 21, 2003 (the day of the accident).

12 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/13/2001

2001 Pathfinder safety issue. This problem pertains to the spacing between the gas and brake pedal on the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. An accident occurred with our Pathfinder directly related to this problem. Because of the close spacing, the gas pedal was mistaken for the brake pedal while entering a parking lot and the driver panicked and the vehicle struck a wall. A similar problem occurred with me. While driving into a parking space, I braked but my foot was partially on the gas pedal causing the vehicle to lurch. Fortunately, I discovered the problem in time and prevented an accident. The accident which occurred was the driver's first "at fault" accident in 25 years of driving. The clear distance between the brake and gas pedal on the Pathfinder is 2 3/8". On other cars, I measured the clear distance as 3". This extra distance makes a significant difference in distinguishing the brake and gas pedals. I believe that this spacing is a design flaw in the Pathfinder and creates an unsafe condition. I recommend that Nissan recall these vehicles and replace the existing brake pedal and lever arm with a lever which is offset to increase the space between the brake and gas pedals. At this time, I will drive this vehicle without shoes or wear a soft sole shoe so that I can feel the difference with the brake pedal and gas pedal. A hard sole shoe causes both pedals to feel the same, and because of the close proximity of the pedals, is the source of confusion and safety concern.

13 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/19/2000

When depressing the accelerator pedal from a dead stop, nothing happens. Suddenly the pedal catches and vehicle lurches. Problem was reported to the dealership and has been corrected. Manufacturer commented that this problem is considered a routine maintenance, which concerns the owner.

14 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/25/2000

When I tried to accelerate my vehicle, the gas pedal will sometimes stick and when I get enough pressure on the pedal it will then lurch the vehicle forward. The brakes squeal continuously when the weather is above freezing. I have had it in numerous times to the local Nissan dealer and they can not find anything wrong with them. The vehicle's abs systems seems to grab before it should when the ground is dry with gravel or there is snow or ice on the ground. Eems to.

16 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder

I'm just wondering if many people have had this part brake. Nissan is offering to pay for 50% of the repair, but it sounds like this might be a big problem for them so I want to find out if this is going to become a recall item. They already have a "notice" out on the problem. The throttle sticks and could be very dangerous so we are not driving the car till this becomes resolved.

Gas pedal stuck occationally.

18 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder
