Nissan Pathfinder owners have reported 12 problems related to car accelerates on its own (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Pathfinder based on all problems reported for the Pathfinder.
The front radar safety feature deactivates and the amber front collision warning light comes on. The speed control feature is disabled when the radar is not active. When the system finally kicks in the speed control suddenly accelerates without warning. The sudden on/off scenario is dangerous and what was supposed to be a safety feature is now actually a hazard. A car should not unexpectedly accelerate to the speed control limit 10-15 minutes after it was set.

On February 6, 2015having just stopped at a traffic light, my 2006 Pathfinder accelerated spontaneously. I applied more force to the brake pedal in an effort to stop the vehicle from colliding with the dump truck in front of me. As soon as the Pathfinder had almost stopped again, it accelerated spontaneously for a second time, but this time with more force. It took all I had to brake the car to a stop. Had I not allowed extra room between the dump truck in front of me and my truck, there would have been a collision. After the incident occurred, I took the truck to priority Nissan. They were unable to diagnose the problem using their computer, and it didn't happen again during their test drive of my vehicle. The service department had no advice to offer concerning this serious problem of unintended acceleration. However, the service advisor said he is going to look into the problem and further research this issue.

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. While stopped at a traffic light, the contact stated the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into the rear bumper of another vehicle. The contact stated he was applying pressure to the brake pedal but the vehicle continued to accelerate. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated he would have the vehicle towed to the dealer for diagnostic. The manufacturer was contacted and stated a report could be filed but the contact decided to do that at later time. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

I recently purchase a 1999-1/2 Nissan Pathfinder se limited. Soon after we had 3 to 4 experiences where the car suddenly accelerates on its own while coming to a stop. Even apply the brakes cant stop the car from wanting to race off, I have to quickly turn the ingnition off with the key. Ive had 2 Nissan dealer services and the Toyota dealer where I purchased the vehicle from test and drive over 50-60 miles and not duplicate the problem. My wife and I feel this is a serious problem that can cause injury or even death to us or someone if it ever happens.

I noticed after I had stopped car and turned it off that I was not as close to curb as I wanted to be. I restarted vehicle and pulled forward appriximately 1 - 1 1/2 car lengths. Put vehicle into reverse to slowly back up when the car suddenly and unexpectedly began to rev at an exceeding high rpm rate and rapidly accelerated. Attempt to break and stop the vehicle was futile resulting in my vehicle hitting the front of the vehicle that was parked behind me. Other vehicle was unoccupied. I do not trust this vehicle because of this erratic behavior. I drove it home carefully and then had it towed to dealer where it was purchased at the end of April 2003. According to service dept. At dealer, they checked for trouble codes and no codes are stored. They road tested vehicle and vehicle is operating normal. They called Nissan tech line and there is no record of incidents like this. Printout of test indicates "no dtc detected. Further testing may be required. Dealer will not do additional testing - this will require Nissan input. Nissan customer service rep denies any knowledge of other reported instances of rapid acceleration in 2003 Pathfinders. I want to get rid of this vehicle even though it only has 2000 miles on it. If I get another vehicle, however, this does not solve the problem since another operator may experience same situation with this vehicle resulting in injury or death.

With the automatic transmission in reverse and my foot on the brake, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to around 6000 rpm while backing into a parking space. I came within a foot of the bumper of the vehice parked in the space behind the one that I was parking in. I had to turn the ignition switch off to stop the vehicle as the brakes would not stop it. I re-started the vehicle in "park" and the engine was still racing at about 4500 rpm. I turned the ignition off again and re-started the vehicle and this time the engine idled normally. I took the vehicle to the Nissan dealer in toms river, NJ on July 2, 2003 and explained what had happened along with the fact that the "service engine soon" light was on. The dealer was unable to find a problem and stated on the repair form "tech test drove vehicle and also checked to stored failure codes. No codes detected, unable to duplicate sudden acceleration issue". When I picked the vehicle up, they told me that the vehicle was fine and safe to drive. I also contacted Nissan consumer affairs on the day of the incident and after picking up the vehicle from the dealer. On both occasions, Nissan stated that they were not aware of any sudden acceleration problem with the 2002 Pathfinder and that there was nothing else that they could do if the dealer was unable to diagnose and repair the problem. I made both Nissan and the dealer aware of the fact that there were two (2) complaints of this type on your web site for the 2002 Pathfinder and I even gave the dealer a copy of the complaints that I printed from your site. I also see on your site that there are five (5) complaints of sudden acceleration for the 2001 Pathfinder and three (3) complaints for the 2000 model year. I hope that your agency will investigate my complaint, as Nissan and the dealer both state that there is no problem of sudden acceleration with the Nissan Pathfinder.

Unintended acceleration at red light and in parking lot. Low brake pedal when applied, foot hits gas pedal while braking. This is a very dangerous problem that other Pathfinder owners reported.
Fuel/throttle control: I experienced a "sudden unintended acceleration" incident in July of 2002. I was in the process of head in parking and was moving very slowly while applying brakes the vehicle accelerated over curbing into a wall. The vehicle stopped, the engine stopped running, and air bags did not deploy. The vehicle is a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with less than 8,000 miles on it. I have read of other incidents like this for this vehicle and am now afraid to drive it. No other incident has occured. I have never experience this situation before and I originally thought that I stepped on the acceletator the same time as the brake. Now I believe I did not step on the accelerator but for some reason the vehicle malfunctioned. I have not taken this into the dealer because I have no confidence in their ability to diagnose the problem as it appears to be very intermittent. This is a serious problem that is potentially lethal and cannot be detected by normal maintenance and happens so quickly that the driver cannot react to avoid a serious collision. There were no injuries (this time) but vehicle damage was $500.

The vehicle experienced sudden acceleration.
I have had two incidents of sudden unintended acceleration while applying the brake at low speeds. With foot on brake rear tires spun and when placed in neutral engine reved to 4500 rmps for about 5 seconds then returned to normal. Second incident resulted in vehicle going through red light at intersection with a near collision with another vehicle. Vehicle inspected by dealer who claims they cannot "duplicate problem. " consumer rep. For Nissan said that they would do nothing else unless the auto is in an accident.
