Nissan Pathfinder owners have reported 2 problems related to steering is loose (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Pathfinder based on all problems reported for the Pathfinder.
The problem started about a month after we bought the vehicle back in 2009, at first it would only start to wobble at 60 mph so we took it in for inspection they told us it needed alignment so we had it done. It worked for a while but then it started all over again and now at just 30 mph so we took in again, this time they did tires and balancing but it is just getting worse. I feel like the steering wheel is loose when it starts to wobble and like my tires are going to fall off. I try not to drive that car so much any more specially when I have my granddaughters with me. I would really appreciate any feedback you may have concerning the problem I'm having with my 1996 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 thank you.

I was turning my steering wheel to leave a parking lot on Friday February 6,2009 and heard a clicking noise in my steering wheel. Next thing I know the steering wheel can be jiggled from side to side because it is so loose. I then proceeded to drive home and it tightened up again after a few turns. It became loose once again after turning a few more times. I have never had a steering come loose and feel like it is going to come off the whole steering column. As of now, we have not had it repaired yet, we are taking the car in on Monday February 9,2009 to gurley leep Nissan in mishawaka indiana. We have attempted to capture this on a short video. Do you have an email address that we can send this video to? we are filing a complaint for a safety concern. We are curious if other people with this make and model have had any similar issues going back to 2005 and newer. This could be a huge safety concern which could lead to the steering wheel coming off the column or losing the ability to steer altogether. I have never owned a new vehicle that had this problem occur, this is not from normal driving or wear and tear on a vehicle. I am very careful with my vehicle and keep up on the maintenance.
