2 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

Vehicle makes a continuous whining/wind noise while in motion and when the gas pedal is not engaged (dealerships state that they can not identify the issue). The transmission was changed back in 2017 but is now juddering and slow to accelerate. The electronic power steering pump making a very loud whining noise, no warning lights nor leaks, at correct level for fluid. Replaced new toyo tires at 20,000 miles.

3 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

Our transmission started shuttering in 2018. Transmission completely stopped working. There was no milky fluid so we simply replaced transmission with a used tranny. 6 months later 2nd tranny failed with only 1st & 2nd working. We took both transmissions to a specialist. He explained that the current antifreeze does not leave milky fluid and both transmissions were contaminated. This means that the radiator was leaking into the transmission causing the failure of both. He told us this is a known issue with the Pathfinder.

5 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

Radiator failed causing leak of radiator fluid into transmission causing vehicle to be towed to auto shop. Vehicle was in motion on highway and then would all of the sudden no longer accelerate. Mechanics, (got 3 estimates) all said same thing; that this was a problem with these Pathfinders. My cost is about 6,500. I had just bought this vehicle for 8,500 about 3 weeks prior.

6 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2010 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

Defective factory radiator led to mixing of trans fluid and coolant causing contamination and vehicle failure. Problem initially exposed while driving vehicle on highway at 50mph. Vehicle lost power and stalled while driving at this speed. Had I been an inexperienced driver, like many out there, this failure could have easily resulted in serious injury, or even death, of myself and my children, as well as, other drivers of the highway! this was the first indication of any problems with my vehicle. All maintenance was, and is, up to date. All fluids are routinely checked with no indication of leaks. Researching this problem, I found that it is extremely common in various models of Nissan between years of 2005-2015! how hasn't this been recalled yet, especially considering that NHTSA has already investigated it? it is not a coincidence that all of these vehicle experience the same problem! my vehicle has been repaired at Nissan dealership, with no assistance from Nissan. $5086 to replace the transmission and radiator, and hook the same defective system back up to inevitably fail again. With no doubt that it will occur after the 12 month warranty period expires. It is your responsibility to keep consumers safe from the corner-cutting, cost-cutting companies. This faulty radiator is causing serious problems. Not only does it cost thousands to fix temporarily, but it is endangering lives. Does someone need to die for it to be considered a safety issue, and recalled? or, is Nissan paying you more than the potential ramifications you face when someone is badly injured or killed?.

7 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving approximately 45 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost acceleration. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who determined that radiator fluid leaked into the transmission fluid and damaged the transmission. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

8 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2010 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/12/2019

Milky fluid was leaking from the coolant area. I had both the coolant & radiator fluid drained and replaced for precautionary measures. Now when I put my car into drive and I step on the gas pedal to accelerate, it revs high before going into gear. It does this especially after I reverse out before putting it into drive which puts me in danger because it takes awhile to go into gear and if a car is coming, I could be hit.

9 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/18/2018

Bought the truck used at 123,000 was running great till 6 months later at 138860 miles all of a sudden truck did not want to start. No crank nothing. Had been serviced one month before and come to find out radiator fluid leaked into transmission. Bad radiator by Nissan and transmission needs to be replaced/rebuilt.

10 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/26/2018

Known to Nissan corp, a design defect makes the engine radiator rust and leak into the transmission. My car has always been properly maintained and I jus took it to perform the 90,000 miles service. Coolant fluid was found in the transmission oil and dealer quoted me $6,884. 59. After a class action lawsuit I just learned about, Nissan has extended the warranty with partial copay up to 10years/100,000 miles whichever comes first. My vehicle is now out of warranty. This is something unacceptable and Nissan should be held accountable and fix it for free for life.

11 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

Was sitting at a red light on the way to work. Light turns green tries to accelerate and hardly anything happens besides a whining noise. Radiator fluid has leaked into transmission fluid causing a milkshake like fluid mix. Now Nissan dealer wants me to replace radiator, and transmission on my on dime. I have seen several forums where this has been the case. Now Nissan has not recalled this vehicle for any safety fixes of the nature.

12 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2010 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/30/2018

Radiator leaked for an unknown amount of time cross contaminating fluid with the automatic transmission. Replaced radiator, and flushed all fluids, but transmission is now ruined.

13 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

The vehicle started vibrating very roughly and loudly during acceleration, then suddenly the transmission completely failed while my daughter was driving it on a very busy frontage road to the highway. She was able to steer it onto the shoulder before it stopped coasting; and several people stopped to help her push it into safety in a nearby parking lot. After having it towed to a repair shop, the mechanic informed us that the radiator fluid had leaked through cracks into the transmission fluid, causing irreversible damage to the transmission. Upon researching the problem, we discovered this was a known and acknowedged problem with 2005-2010 Nissan Pathfinders, but neither a recall nor a warning was ever issued. We are now beyond the warranty coverage in time and in mileage, so Nissan will not cover any of the expenses to repair.

14 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/16/2018

Transmission started slipping. When I took my vehicle to the dealership, radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission causing me to have to replace not only the transmission but the radiator, hoses, etc.

15 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

All 4 of my catalytic converters have had to be replaced (or need to be replaced - I've already replaced bank 1. Now bank 2 is bad) in the past 12 months or so and now my radiator is leaking into my transmission. I discovered there was a class-action lawsuit on the radiator/transmission issue, but I'm outside of the warranty period. With respect to the catalytic converters, I occasionally smell exhaust, but the check engine lights stay on. With the transmission, it started out as gear slipping, causing rough driving (which the dealership told me was the catalytic converter). Then, it started running slow out of first gear and hard shifting. I took it to a transmission place that pulled transmission codes and when they dropped the pan, the fluid looked like a milkshake. The rough driving/gears slipping didn't matter - it could be on the highway or in the city. I don't know the exact date in 2018 that I had the issue, but I've been dealing with this issue for a year.

16 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/17/2018

On 17 January 2018, I was driving westbound on I-20, I was taking my niece and nephews to school, there was an accident a few miles ahead, so traffic was crawling luckily. It started when with the vehicle wouldn't respond when I pushed on the gas pedal. It would take a while for the vehicle to gain speed. Then I started smelling oil coming from the air vents, so I turned off the heater and tried to make my way to the shoulder of the highway but was unable to do so because of the heavy traffic. I had to turn the heater on again because it was cold outside and I had the kids in the car. As I was trying to make it to the side of the highway, all traffic stopped, and I smelled the oil again and saw smoke. I immediately turned off the car and popped the hood to check what was smoking or where it was coming from. As I was looking under the hood, I heard fluid leaking, so I started looking around, and when I looked at the passenger side of the car, there was a huge oil spill. Later I found out it was transmission fluid and it was milky white attached are the pictures of the oil spill and when I pulled the transmission dipstick and saw it was milky white also. Upon doing my research, I found out that I was not the only one to have this problem with this particular model and year of vehicle. There was a class action lawsuit, and all they did was extend the warranty, they have not issued a recall, people continue to have this issue. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs, and they said they would not fix the issue repair costs are nearly $6000. 00.

17 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

My vehicle was recently diagnosed stating that the radiator had leaked fluid into the transmission and it would cost $6,200 to repair. My vehicle has 85,000 miles. I was never made aware of the extended warranty when I could have had it checked (the dealership did replace the transmission fluid once so the issue should have been taken care of then when it was under warranty). There is a vibration when the rpms settle around 1000-1500 after the vehicle has warmed up. It is intermittent, but was diagnosed by the Nissan dealer mechanic as the issue.

18 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/18/2017

Strawberry milkshake-like fluid leaking from the radiator infiltrated the transmission, causing catatrophic failure of the transmission. This problem was widely publicized in other states but not California. I was almost involved in an accident because of the car's failure to accelerate while entering onto the freeway. Shame on Nissan not to extend warnings nationwide.

19 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/20/2017

The radiator was cracked where the transmission fluid is and it mixed with the antifreeze which caused both the radiator and the transmission to have to be replaced. The engine was on and vehicle was stationary when we noticed the temperature increased greatly and rapidly until it maxed out. The vehicle was leaking a mix of antifreeze and transmission fluid. We replaced the radiator but the damage was done already to the transmission. The vehicle was in motion when the transmission failed.

20 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Radiator fluid has leaked into the transmission, compromising the integrity of the transmission. I feel a shudder when the transmission hits 40 mph - 60 mph.

21 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

I had noticed fluid leaking from under the front /right portion of my vehicle after I parked. I opened the hood and the reserve cap to the radiator had come loose. After letting my vehicle cool, I inspected both the reserve tank and radiator and noticed the fluid was now a milky/frothy substance. After some detective work, I learned that this is a common issue with Pathfinders from 2005- through 2010 that Nissan has ignored to fix. The transmission fluid cooler in the radiator assembly "fails" causing contamination to the internal transmission components ,and damage to the internal transmission computer. There are no warning signs up to or just prior to the failures. After contacting Nissan and receiving a denial to fix our truck under a warranty, I am stuck with a vehicle with several "thousands of dollars" in repairs all due to Nissan ignoring a known defect and not issuing a recall on all vehicles in the "known" year bracket with these issues. I'm sure nothing will be done regarding this issue due to there not being a major loss of lives involved, I. E. Takata airbags, but I find it is my duty to add my name to an already hefty list of other Nissan Pathfinder owners that have experienced this same problem.

22 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/17/2017

While driving on the highway, penultimate week. I observed loud engine noise, vigorous shaking and jerking and a reluctance in acceleration when I applied gas pedal. I was a little bewildered as I have been very punctilious with the regular maintenance of my car. I gently pulled into a parking lot to avert any danger on the freeway. Upon exiting the car, I perceived a pungent burning smell. At this point, I knew it would be unsafe and pernicious to drive the car home. I immediately called for roadside assistance through my insurance company and had the car taken to my mechanic. He called back the following day with the most disheartening news. For some uncanny reason, fluid from the radiator was leaking into and contaminating the transmission. He vehemently pointed out that he had seen quite a few of the same ominous problems brought to his shop, involving mostly 2006 Nissan Pathfinders. I was given a quote of about $4500-$7000 to fix this problem. I purchased the vehicle from a used car dealer with approximately 117,000 miles. I'm currently financing the car and because of my student loan and exorbitant fees, I still owe a lot on it. Honestly, I cannot afford the repairs at this juncture. It is very rapacious and immoral of Nissan to abdicate their responsibility and pass on the financial burden to innocent consumers. These cars had factory defects and design flaws that Nissan was aware of but chose to ignore. I enjoin anyone having similar problems and indeed conscientious members of the public to vociferously condemn Nissan's action and force a recall. This is corporate greed at it's worst !!.

23 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

Cracked radiator leaking fluid into transmission. This is causing transmission failure. Transmission slipped when trying to accelerate or at a low gear switch. This caused me alarm and I was unsure if my car could accelerate properly if I was in a critical situation. . Read more...

24 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/16/2017

I just learned of an issue with the radiators failing on the model I have causing coolant to leak into the transmission and thus causing damage to the transmission. After further investigation I found that I would have to pay a $3000 CO-pay due to the milege and age of my vehicle. Discovering that Nissan had know of the issue since 2007 and I purchased the vehicle in 2010 I am quite unhappy with level of customer service to take care of this issue properly. If feel that Nissan has not done enough to remedy these issue for consumers. I was driving my vehicle to pickup my children when the incident occured without any warning. The vehicle began to overheat spilling coolant mixed with transmission fluid onto the street. I might as well buy and install the transmission and radiator myself with the CO-pay that Nissan wants to charge. Very unhappy with what Nissan is offering to fix this problem.

25 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Transmission fluid is leaking into coolant.

26 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shook uncontrollably and independently shifted without warning. In addition, the heating system became inoperable and caused an abnormal odor to emit inside the vehicle, which irritated the contact's eyes. The dealer diagnosed that the transmission fluid leaked into the radiator. As a result, the transmission and radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

27 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Takata recall ?? the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder radiator and transmission failure and breakdown due to coolant leak into the transmission. Purchased pre-owned with nothing listed on car facts (carfax), or with any advisement to the issues with radiator coolant leaking into transmission. After a $1,017 bill from aamco for a diagnostic to find the issue, (in which they had to pull the tranny and inspect it was damaged due to fluid from radiator getting inside compromising transmission seals) I discovered, online, this ongoing well know problem. . Called Nissan north America and discovered my vehicle was covered under the 100k mileage (94955 actual) and good through 8-2017, from a previous filed complaint or class action, not sure which. However, apparently I only qualify for a CO/pay of $3,000 on a vehicle valued at tops, $7,500. Needless to say I would have never purchased this vehicle, had I known this was an issue. I have been in touch with my bank, the dealership I purchased it from, and Nissan north America and no one is willing to assist. I suppose I will contact my attorney at this point (lemon law, tort laws, something) because I cant' seem to find anyone understanding to me, the consumer, whom is not at fault on this deal for help. I am extremely unhappy that Nissan has allowed this to happen. They should at least put a carfax warning or something to notify potential buyers or owners of this problem. I understand that parts get worn and go bad, however, this in not something that I have neglected to fix, maintain, check, or anything. This is a bad part/design flaw in the coolant system and should in all rights be fixed at 100% by Nissan. Beware.

28 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/06/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving various speeds, the transmission slipped and the vehicle overheated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who would not diagnose the vehicle. The contact then took the vehicle to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a cracked radiator that caused fluid to leak into the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 83,200.

29 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/21/2016

I stopped at the gas station to get fuel. I turned the vehicle off and put gas in the vehicle. When I got back in the vehicle, it will not start. . I towed the vehicle to the Nissan dealership in elizabeth city north carolina. After my vehicle was diagnosed it was determined that the internal cooler in the radiator burst and leaked transmission fluid in the radiator and antifreeze had leaked into my transmission. The tech explained that the antifreeze have cause the internal computer in the transmission to not function properly. He stated that the fuse kept blowing out. After speaking with the dealership they wanted to charge me $3000. 00 dollars to replace the radiator and transmission. I explained to them that I had no warning signs at all. I was told by the tech to call Nissan corporation for further detail. Once I called the corporation, an investigation claim was initiated. She told me that some will contact me by Monday (10/24/16). So now its like a wait and see game. I was told that the radiator had a warranty on it up to 100,000 miles of until 02/2017. I did explained to the tech that the failed part in the radiator caused my transmission to get damage.

30 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While parked, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was coolant leaking into the transmission, which caused transmission fluid and coolant to mix. The mechanic stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,687.

31 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

Coolant fluid leaked from radiator cap into transmission causing the radiator and transmission to have to be replaced. Vehicle has 122,000 miles and has never had any issues before this. The fluid in radiator and transmission is gunk.

32 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/04/2016

My transmission died on I 95 after only 38,000 miles. It was replaced at a Nissan dealership and then a month later the brand new transmission leaked so much fluid that the goodyear mechanic that I took the car to(since the dealership wasn't open) couldn't find where the transmission was actually leaking from.

33 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

As a single father of three teenagers, I needed two vehicles with enough room and safety features to handle high school and college needs. I bought two Pathfinders, a 2007 se and 2008 le, one for myself and one for my son (which would be passed on, etc). My decision was based on my previous experience with Nissan products and my loyalty to the brand. However, I now have both Pathfinders needing major repairs to their automatic transmissions. The 2008 Pathfinder's transmission failed in very heavy houston traffic while driving with my younger son, which caused other vehicles to slam on their brakes and almost created a large pile-up on a major highway. While we avoided being killed by oncoming vehicles, we were also in danger as we moved the car to the side of the highway. After towing the vehicle to a reputable transmission shop, he found the issue to be a known problem with the coolant fluid leaking into the automatic transmission, causing total failure. Estimates are over $6,000 for rebuilding or replacing the transmission with parts and labor, including the required addition of a "cooler" instead of the radiator. I attempted to file this with my car insurance but was denied coverage. Now, the 2007 Pathfinder is having the same symptoms with slippage and inability to use overdrive, which almost cause another multi-car pile-up in houston traffic until I was able to downshift and move aside. It's only a matter of time before the 2007 Pathfinder transmission also fails completely, and I still owe $12,000 to the credit union on both loans combined. I attempted a loan for repairs through the transmission shop, but was denied due to bad credit from a lay-off last year. Nissan, please issue a recall for those of us without hope and unable to buy a new vehicle. This is your chance to save lives and boost your brand to a higher level, through integrity.

34 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle vibrated severely from the front end of the vehicle multiple times without warning. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission fluid leaked into the radiator. The radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.

35 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Radiator defect, that Nissan has known since 2012, class action suit, for Pathfinders and xterras leaked fluid into transmission blowing my transmission. Nissan replaced transmission and radiator but charged me $3,000 as CO-pay. Nissan has been aware of this issue for a while and yet never subject of recall nor were owners notified of this engineering defect of the radiator. Nissan refused to indemnify me for the CO-pay claiming I was lucky I got that from them. When questioned as to why these radiators were never recalled, they refused to respond and stated they were under no obligation to notify owners of this defect. My transmission and radiator went while I was driving the vehicle causing my car to swerve almost resulting in an accident. This is an extremely dangerous defect it is absurd that the owners should have to pay anything because of this radiator that was engineered defective.
