4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

My 2009 Nissan Pathfinder (after the warranty ran out), started having issues with the transmission and overheating. Lo and behold we have an issue where the radiator and transmission fluid is mixing. This appears to be the same problem others have reported as a failed transmission fluid cooler integrated in the radiator that allowed engine coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid. There were no warning signs leading up to the failures other than a sudden jolt of the vehicle like the transmission was slipping. This always happens while the vehicle is moving at slow and high speeds.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

The transmission began to slip. Slow moving . Then vehicle would not start. Engine code u1000. Had the vehicle towed to a repair shop. They replaced the started. I paid them 400. 00. I got in the vehicle it would not start. The mechanic replaced a 20a fuse in the fuse box for the ecu. Drove vehicle home, then would not start again. Researched online stumbled onto article about defective Nissan transmission being a ticking time bomb. Check transmission fluid, strawberry milk shake. Radiator fluid dark. Thanks Nissan , I bought this vehicle used, found out the engine was bad, spent 8000. 00 replacing the engine and now the transmission and radiator are bad. I will never purchase another Nissan. Why wasn't there a recall for the radiator ???.

I have taken the vehicle to my local dealership at least three times without them finding a solution or being able to fix the issue. Instead I'm being told that the heat shield is the issue and that it has been taken care off even though the problem still exists.

17 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

Multiple issues with this SUV had to have rear shock/strut replaced. Instrument cluster panel has been replaced. Passenger side air bag comes on when person is sitting there. Cvt transmission problems. The SUV has been in the shop on multiple occasions for each issue the transmission issue has been in the shop 6 plus times and I just picked up the 2014 Pathfinder 8-16-2016 and was told and have it on my invoice that the service tech drove the SUV and feels the transmission slipping or skipping but there is nothing they can do Nissan power train warranty will not allow them to replace it because my check engine light is not showing a code. So I have a 2014 Pathfinder that is a complete safety hazard for my family and other people on the road. The SUV will cut out, slip, shutter, lose power and has the potential of causing and accident when trying to accelerate which is terrible for who ever was to hit me and also could be fatal if I was to be hit and the passenger side air bag does not deploy could really hurt/kill the passenger. Every excuse I get from Nissan is they reprogrammed the car and this never fixed anything. The car was having transmission issues back before it made it to 30,000 miles and now at 55,000 miles the SUV is having major issues with the transmission. This is a known issue but Nissan refuses to fix. Nissan instead puts this SUV back on the road knowing it is having a safety issue for acceleration and passenger side air-bag and putting people at risk. I am requesting Nissan to do a buy back of this SUV. I am not looking for a replacement with another faulty transmission or a rebuilt transmission. I have found that there is a class action law suit in federal court in florida with people having the exact same issue. So obliviously there is a major problem with these transmissions.

18 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

I purchased my Nissan Pathfinder and Nissan rogue new in 2014. Almost all recommended service has been done at banister Nissan of chesapeake, 930 n battlefield blvd, chesapeake, va 23320 dealership. At approximately 30,000 miles the Pathfinder began to shake violently during acceleration between 15mph and 30mph. Also, the transmission slips and hesitates on both vehicles. Details of this problem have been shared repeatedly with dealership advisors at the time of service. At first technicians claimed not have noticed any trembling / issues during test drives with the Pathfinder. Then each time I brought it in for the shudder, the dealer would blame it on other issues. I have replaced the tires, brakes, and rotors several times at the advice of the dealer. None of that fixed the shudder. Nissan had a recall for a defective valve body in the transmission. The valve body was replaced on both vehicles; however, the failure was not corrected. Banister Nissan of chesapeake did not informed me until after the Pathfinder was out of warranty that transmission was causing the problems and will need to be replaced. I requested assistance from the Nissan manufacturer as advised by the dealership since I have complained about the problems for so long. The manufacturer was notified. Nissan agreed to pay for repair costs for the vehicle. Banister Nissan of chesapeake now tells me they will need to do another diagnostic test but refuse to cover any cost associated. The advisors stated that diagnostic could coast anywhere from $200 - $800. My husband and I are experiencing most of the same issues with the 2014 Nissan rogue purchased new at the same dealership.

I have had the door handle on my Pathfinder break twice making you unable to get out of your car in a emergency! this car was purchased new by me. 24 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/08/2015

It was on Saturday Aug 8th, while on a family week end get away, while driving in stop and go traffic in the carpool lane of the freeway, the transmission started to slip and jump a couple of times. . I was pressing the gas pedal with no movemen, I didnt know what to do, so I turned it off and back on again and put it in 4×4 fearing for the safety of my family that was with me, I got it to move and pulled it over to center devider. I turned it off again and took it out of 4x4 and let it set for a few minutes. We were going to call aaa, but I decided to try it again, and was able to drive away safely. That was 2 weeks ago, I have only driven it around my house and haven't had that happen again. I am hesitating taking it to the dealer because I was just there a couple of months ago replacing the timing chain tensioner. $1850.

25 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

In 2012, soon after we purchased our used 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, we knew it was a mistake. Not only did the fuel indicator not work (noticed the day we drove it off the lot) the SUV just didn't feel right while driving. I have been stranded in 100 degree weather on numerous occasions because the fuel indicator says I have fuel, but the light would immediately come on, and the car would cut off & lock up while I was driving it! fast forward to last year, 2015, we started experiencing problems when shifting into and out of park/drive/reverse. The transmission was slipping and sometimes wouldn't even change gears, just keep revving up the engine and not going anywhere. It has left my children and me stranded on numerous occasions since then. Finally, about 6 months ago, the Pathfinder decided to not move out of park at all after cranked. Today, 9/14/16, the transmission left me stranded in the middle of heavy 5 o'clock traffic. I barely had it pulled off the road when I almost got rear-ended! the transmission won't change gears, won't propel the car forward (or backwards) and the shop said it needed a whole new transmission, and maybe a new radiator! I am a student and my husband is in law enforcement - we certainly don't have an extra $4,000 lying around for repairs to a vehicle that should have been recalled! so, it is parked in our driveway, completely immobile and we have a car payment coming up next week (and every month afterwards). We are underwater, still owing $8,000 for a car we thought we'd drive forever, that is valued at around $4,000 on a good day with no transmission issues. Something has to be done! Nissan needs to repair our car ASAP!.

26 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

The service manager shocked me when she said I needed a new transmission ,because antifreeze had leaked into transmission and ruined it. She proceeded to tell me I need a timing chain ,u-joints , muffler clamps and that I should have taken better care of my truck. She advised I should get a new truck the cost would be a total of 4,500. 00 dollars for the repair!. I left in disbelief knowing a truck with 65k miles should not need a transmission. I researched on the web and found that Nissan was aware of a defect in the radiator that caused this problem , not only on my truck but other Nissan models as well. They settled a lawsuit that favors Nissan , but neglected to inform any of there customers like myself with a heads up if the issue has not happened yet. I have to pay the first 3000. 00 dollars of the repair and Nissan will pick up the rest , this is outrageous the cause of the problem was a defective radiator, this should have been recalled. The service adviser did not notify me of this issue at the dealership and as of yet has not sent me a detailed estimate of the repair. This should be a safety issue since the trans could slip at some time causing an accident. Nissan consumer affairs division has not responded with a remedy with my complaint . I have lost faith in the local dealer and with Nissan product as well. Will not buy another Nissan again. P. S. I took my vehicle to another repair facility and there estimate alone for the job was 4,555. 00 dollars, when driving it to them I could hardly drive over 40 mph and the transmission started slipping , again this should be a safety recall !. If I needed power to change lanes or get out of the way of another car I would have been killed.

Failure Date: 11/08/2014

I bought this SUV brand new back in 2006, never had major problem till now. We just found out Nissan's radiators are a huge problem they leak into the transmission and that explains why our transmission died. While I drove on the freeway the transmission slipped. Luckily the car didn't stall after I pulled in the driveway. I brought it to the repair shop they said the coolant leaked in to the transmission. They told me that I needed to have the transmission replaced because it got coolant in it and damage the inners.

34 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

The transmission has been slipping for a number of months. It's only up to 96,000 miles. We are trying to trade it in and have been told we'll get nothing for it because Nissan settled a lawsuit for this year and model to replace the transmissions. I can't find details of this settlement and the dealer never contacted us about it (it was bought brand new). Firstly, it's disgusting that they didn't reach out, and secondly, what can we do? I have heard that we can spend $3k to get a new transmission installed at this point. But if they'd contacted us sooner, it would have cost less.
