I was driving at 45 mph and pressed the gas. It was early Sunday morning, very light traffic. I pressed the gas pedal to accelerate and did not hear the engine respond. I looked at my gauges and the tachometer was at 0. I realized the engine was not running. I tried revving the gas pedal but nothing happened. I managed to guide my car off the road into an entrance road to a business. I put the car in park and attempted to start it. The engine turned over but would not catch. The gas gauge showed a quarter of a tank and no light was on. I called my wife and she brought a gas can. I poured it the gas. The car immediately started. I went to a gas station. The car took 19 gallons. The capacity was 20 gallons so the car was empty. I have been monitoring since. On a typical week my car is slightly under half a tank. This week my car was a little bit under three quarter 3/4 full. The trip odometer showed I had gone 174 miles. I filled up the car and it took 11. 3 gallons. This indicate the tank is almost exactly 1/4 off. I was very lucky when the car stalled I could pull off safely. I have seen many post on the internet regarding this issue on this year car. What has to happen to get this addresses? this is the same problem as the frontier and pathfinder and xterra are having for the same year. They all have the same 3. 5 liter engine. Any one checking to see if the Quest has the same fuel pump/sender assembly? the similarities are just to obvious.
The consumer owns a 2004 Nissan Quest. Vehicle intermittently stalled and hesitated. The consumer took the car to the repair shop numerous times for this problem. The dealer replaced the fuel pump once , and the abs sensor was also replaced, no one knew what was happening with the car. The car has been towed to the dealer again for the same issues. The consumer has not called the manufacturer. The consumer wanted to get rid of the car.

Consumer smelled gas fumes. She has checked, and there was no leakage nor was vehicle losing gas. Also, there wasn't any fire. But the fumes were very strong. Consumer was very concerned. She will take the vehicle to the dealer very soon.

1. Fuel pump failure, replaced by dealer. Transmission starts out in3rd gear vehicle will not travel over 10/15 mph. Dealer claims inadvertantly turning off od can cause this. A/c unitunable to cool off car in weather over 85degrees.
Purchased 2004 Nissan Quest 3. 5 sl 3/13/04. Experienced problems with car starting during first week. Requested full check of engine. Took to dealership for custom package. Upgrade and engine diagnostic during 2nd week. Was not done! beginning 3rd week car would not start. Dealership towed and supposedly fixed. Received. Vehicle following day 4/02/04. On the way home from dealership, car suddenly died in a turn on a major intersection during rush hour. Nearly hit a car and a curb before I could stop vehicle. My children were onboard! unknown to me, gasoline was pouring out from underneath the vehicle. Cars were zooming by on their way home. Some men got my children and I out of the car and pushed to car into a gas station on that corner. We were in the vehicle for several minutes with the hazard lights on, before I could safely get my children from the car. Dealership once again towed vehicle and supposedly fixed the fuel related problem. Replaced the fuel pump. My vehicle to this day does not get near the reported guideline fuel consumption ratings. Window sticker 19 - 26 mpg, lowest end ratings on this model are 16 - 22. Mine gets 13 - 14. 1 in town and 17 to 18 on the highway. Have read of recurring problems with low impact causing fire in the steering columns of the 2004 Nissan Quest, a problem and recall that existed long before the 2004 models.
I purchased 2004 Quest in fall 2003. To date I have had the automatic door break 4 times, fuel pump and fuel chamber replaced, van will not accelerate periodically, brakes sqeak repaired but ow worse, sonar malfunction, no sound from radio/dvd/cd random occurance. The van has been in shop approximatley 10 times in ten months for extended time and problems are no better than 10 months ago. Nissan consumer affairs has not provided any resolution or effort to properly fix problems.
Engine knock, engine failure, replace corroded throttle body, gas smell leaks into interior, faulty front passenger seat belt restraint, vehicle now has 110,000 miles on it and is in the shop for a new fuel pump. Excessive noise pollution when driving, faulty rear hatch lock(electrical), faulty elect. Pwr. Door locks, locks when not touched. This vehicle is what lemon laws were intended for yet Nissan is in denial about all the problems owners have endured with no compensation.
