general problems of the 2018 Nissan Rogue - part 1

A/c started blowing warm air when car was idling, then car randomly overheated while sitting in traffic. Once car cooled down, check to coolant levels and they were fine. After the car sat overnight a/c worked fine and temperature gauge was at normal. Started the car with a/c on and popped the hood, the radiator fan was not on nor did it come on. Now anytime the car idles for more than 1 or 2 minutes it overheats.

As I was driving, air conditioner failed to function, resulting in car overheating and 'check engine' light coming on. Was able drive car safely home. Problem was later diagnosed as malfunctioning radiator fan.

Component/system: the fire department determined the cause of the fire to be accidental due to an electrical malfunction within the vehicle. The most extensive damage was located in the engine compartment, though damage spread to the passenger compartment as well. The vehicle is available on request. The vehicle caught fire while parked on a street. No injuries or displacements occured. However, the vehicle became "well involved" with fire, creating an active emergency that required emergent fire department response and suppression. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? since the vehicle receive so much damage, it would only be the emergency response and origin determination by lubbock fire rescue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle was inspected on-scene by lubbock fire rescue (unit e7). The fire department noted no signs of vandalism or tampering, concluding the cause was accidental. The police was also on the scene as well. Were there any warning messages? the owner stated they had driven the vehicle around 20:30 (8:30 pm) the previous evening and it had been parked since. The fire did not break out until approximately 05:13 am the following morning. There wasn’t any warning lamps or unusual symptoms l present during or prior to that final drive. Summary: on may 28, 2026 the 2018 Nissan Rogue internally combusted. Subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed fire damage in both the passenger compartment and the engine compartment, with the most severe and extensive damage concentrated in the engine bay. Fire officials found no evidence of tampering or vandalism. Based on the burn patterns and origin point, lubbock fire rescue determined the cause of the fire to be accident al, resulting from an internal electrical malfunction within the vehicle.

2018 Nissan Rogue. With just over 96,000 miles. I have been working on cars for 35 years and understand mechanics at a professional level. What component or system failed or malfunctioned?: oil level sensor. Oil temp sensor. Knock sensor. Complete rod bearing failure. Outrageously high oil temperature and oil consumption. Rod bearing started knocking. There were no warning lights or low oil level warnings. I was driving home from work yesterday and out of nowhere the rod bearing started knocking with no previous symptoms. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil level. It was literally dry as a bone. It was so low I had to add 2. 5 quarts to even show on the dipstick and 3. 5 quarts to get it to acceptable levels. Not only did this literally ruin my engine, it's going to cost over $6,000 to repair. This is obviously related to the current lawsuit against Nissan for the exact same issue involving 2019-2026 models and should have also included 2018 models. This is an incredibly dangerous safety concern, as an unlubricated engine and/or overheated oil can cause total engine lock up and friction welding of internal engine components (which is what happened to me) can lead to serious accidents, stalls, and is a massive fire and explosion danger. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? not yet were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? none! vehicle is avaliable for inspection upon request: yes.

While driving my engine began to smoke, I had to pull over on a very dangerous highway. After getting the vehicle towed my mechanic determined that the engine over heated due to a faulty cooling fan on the engine. The head gasket now needs to be replaced, as well as the whole engine. He informed me this is a common issue they see in Nissan Rogue sports. There were no warnings or issues noted. Only two months prior the car was serviced by the dealer.

We have a 2018 Nissan Rogue sport s fwd. , and the ac began to cool off & on, then there was no air at all coming from the vents. Took the car to firestone and they said it was the blower motor & blower motor resistor - so I had those replaced. Not even a week passes and there's a noise coming from the engine especially when ac is on and a vibration to go along with it. I carried it back to firestone and they tell me it's the cooling fan, it wasn't wanting to turn off when car was shut off, so I have to make an appointment to bring in etc. . Etc. . , 2 days later the cooling fan just stops working and the engine temp, of course, wants to run hot. So - the car isn't drivable in its current state, and from what I've been reading online, these cars definitely have some issues! I read that Nissan had recalled the year 2019 & up for these same problems ?! what about the 2017 & 2018s with the same issue?? shame on you Nissan!! knowing that you put a defected part in these cars that just stop working out of the blue, causing cars to over heat and could potentially cause unnecessary damage to engine. It's just wrong any way you look at it.

Engine seems very weak. Not enough power to safely pass on a highway. Absolutely gutless and sometimes upon acceleration and/or braking it jerks.

After driving for awhile it will take a minute once putting foot on the gas for car to take off at a traffic light. Also malfunction error comes up on dashboard and car starts to slow down and try’s to cut off. Have to pull over and turn off the car, wait for a few minutes then restart the car.

On June 5th 2025, the radiator fan in my 2018 Nissan Rogue sport stoped working while my idling in traffic and caused my engine to overheat and smoke. I immediately pulled over and turned off the engine to allow it to cool down. This problem could lead to catastrophic engine failure, warped cylinder heads, blown gaskets, and could even cause a fire, which places my safety and the safety of others around me in imminent danger!.

Driver seat moves back and forth while driving, speed control goes wild while driving, transmission does keep gear nor speed level . . Leaking out of motor while the car is turned off after driving for a couple of minutes. . Key jackknife is very week. . The safety issues of this vehicle is very scary wrote a letter to Nissan never hear back to to dealship and they were unable to help me. . Car still under extended warranty but no one wants to honor it. . Very sad. . Please help I can’t afford another car, can barely afford this one. .

Car drives sluggish then takes off rides fine for awhile then problem repeats.

The radiator fan quit working around 116000 miles, causing engine to overheat, a/c to not work, coolant tank to boil all contents out each time the engine overheats. Starting the car is difficult now, have to pump the gas to get the engine to turn over. Battery dies often now.

After driving home from an appointment tonight 9/14/2024, my Nissan Rogue 2018 began shuttering, stalling and jerking. I was only 3 miles from home, and it happened all the way home, with times I didn't think the vehicle was going to restart. I was in Saturday afternoon traffic and cars where swerving around me avoiding my car, and trying to not hit me. Vehile mileage is 71,256 miles and only myself as owner in it's entire history. I've had allthe oil and fluid changes necessary for it to operate. I have left a message by contacting Nissan USA, and will be contacting attorney because I am almost certain it's my cvt transmission failing.

Radiator fan failure. At around 47000 miles the radiator fan gave out. Ours caused our car to overheat on the highway and start smoking. We took it to a repair shop and got it fixed for between $1000-1500. At that time, we saw plenty of users reporting the same issue around the same mileage mark. It has now been two years since that repair and our fan is starting to squeak and make noise again like it did the few months before it gave out the first time. Our mileage is now 57,000 and I expect we will need to replace our fan within the next 6 months. Also, when trying to get the fan replaced, it is often on back order which our mechanic found interesting—showing this must be a common occurrence with these vehicles. Not only is this a safety issue, it will have costed us almost 3k within 3 years. And who knows how long our next replacement will last.

While driving on the highway at 75 mph my Nissan Rogue lost its ability to accelerate and maintain its speed while on cruise control. The cvt transmission has abruptly become faulty and now has internal issues according to polo s mechanic shop. This is a 6-year-old vehicle, and no warning signs were/are present. I would like this investigated.

Engine burning oil and leaks. Only 62,000 miles. Car accelerated when brake was being applied.

Last year our ac stopped working intermittently, took it to the Nissan dealership and they charged me almost $2,000 to replace the ac compressor. This year the engine radiator coolant fan became an issue, the coolant fan bearing has something wrong with it and causes it to turn the ac off and overheat the engine. Possible causing catastrophic internal damage to the engine. It wasn’t until I was looking at forums to figure out how to replace the electric fan that I realized how many others had the exact experience, and then to find that they recalled 2019 and up. I believe they should have included 2018 and from what others have said 2017 as well.

My car has an engine issue at 45000 miles and needs a replacement of engine. My safety was put at risk because driving a car with engine issue is very dangerous with potential brake loss. This issue was diagnosed by the official dealership. The engine light was on.

On 3/5/24 I had a collision with a large deer. The front of the car was impacted. The air bags did not deploy. I was driving at 50 mph. I have sent my concern to Nissan but they have not responded. Approximately $10,000 in damage was done.

Piston rod broke and fell through oil pan causing damage. Ultimately resulting on car shutting down on freeway and having to be towed in the early hours of the morning. This could’ve resulted in major accident putting myself and others lives in danger. I’m unsure if problem has been reproduced. Vehicle has yet to be inspected by manufacturer. There were no warnings messages or symptoms previous to what happened.

The engine block cracked, and is available for inspection. Our family’s safety was in jeopardy because the engine block crack caused dangerous engine overheating. It could have caused a dangerous breakdown. Two independent mechanics have verified the problem, and identified it as pertaining to Nissan recall ntb20-25a, but Nissan has not included our vehicle in the engine recall. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else other than the mechanics. The engine temperature display indicated the problem. We took the vehicle to the mechanic based on that warning sign. The problem first appeared around Jan 5th.

Ignition key does not turn on the vehicle. Key does not correspond with the vehicle to turn on or open door.

Transmission failed and needed to be replaced with less than 60,000 miles. There is a known issue with other transmissions in the same year for this vehicle and mine should not be included.

I almost got rear ended because my 2018nissan Rogue sport s, randomly went into emergencybraking mode as I was driving through an intersection. I was going the speed limit, and my brakes and inspection are all new. The car started flashing a warning yellow light even thoufh there was no obstruction in front of me and then it came to a complete stop abruptly. I was unable to press the gas or brake.

So the cvt transmission on my 2018 Nissan rouge has begun to fail. I ask my personal mechanic and took it to star Nissan in illinois and both said that the transmission is wearing out quicker than normal, they suggested I see if it had been recalled, and to my surprise, it hasn't and they are guessing that the transmission was worn out before I bought it. They were recalled for the same problem but were never taken. The bad thing is that there is no error or light that says the transmission is failing. I drive with the car on a daily and risk my life and others just cause the car doesn't move and I need to turn it off and turn it back on so it resets. The car smells like burning metal from the transmission. When I go 20 the rpms hit 5000 which should be normal.

The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the adaf control module and aeb system needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

Used key fob to unlock driver's door. Would not work. Used valet key. Started car, open drivers window and notice that nothing else in the cabin was operational. A/c would not turn on, could not put it in gear. Radio wouldn't function. The dash and console were dark. No message flashed. Couldn't exit the car as door wouldn't open. However, the engine continued to run. Hung out open door to unlock with valet key. Called aaa, they couldn't stop engine from running and stated they weren't "authorized" to do anything else. Called Nissan emergency number and person came out and couldn't shut off engine and finally had to disconnect the alternator to stop car from running. After reconnecting the alternator, he could not start car. I called a tow truck the next morning and at that time, the car started. Nissan service garage couldn't replicate that problem except said that the actuator in the door had failed and needed replaced - but that wouldn't cause the other issues. They had car for over a week and could not replicate the problem of the car engine running while every other car function was not operational. The car has only 3824 miles on it although it is a 2018. This is a major safety issue. Contacted Nissan customer care service. Since the problem wasn't replicated, they said they couldn't help. I feel unsafe and won't drive car due to no one being able to explain why that happened or whether it will happen again.
