1 Engine problem of the 2007 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

In November I was driving on the highway for 30 minutes, next thing I know is that I have no power in the engine. The car would not go higher than 20 miles and the revolutions on the motor were as high as 5,000rpm. I lost control of the car because I could not accelerate and I could not stop the car because the brakes were very hard and unresponsive. I could not move the car, it felt like the car had the brake pedal push all the way with emergency brake, I tried to accelerate but it did not move. Had to tow the car to the Nissan dealer service department. After 1 week, the service guys told me the problem was the outpeed speed sensor. After 3 days of using the repaired car, the car did the same thing only this time I almost crashed with another car because I lost control of the car again and the car almost got on fire. From the engine compartment you could see smoke coming out. Had to tow the car again to the Nissan dealer service department with no result because they could not replicate problem. The car did the same to me 2 more times and this time the dealer decided to replace the cvt transmission which I have read they have a lot of problems and because of that Nissan extended the warranty to 10 year 120k miles. After the transmission was replaced I used the car for about 1 month and the car in February did the same again. No engine power, unresponsive brakes, high rpm and smoke coming out from the engine compartment. Until when will I have to deal with this problem??? when will Nissan correct or recall these transmissions, when a life is lost? I took the car more than 4 times before they decided to replace and fix the problem. I'm going back again to Nissan, how many times will this time will be? I have lost more than 3 months with this issue and still the car is not working. Nissan does not have a safety recall and don't seem to take seriously the problem.

Failure Date: 02/25/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start and was taken to the dealer for inspection. The dealer advised that the timing chain and head gasket would need replacing. There were no recalls for the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was advised that they would assist with fifty percent of the repair costs but the contact declined. The failure mileage was 54,000.

4 Engine problem of the 2000 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

We had a 2000 Nissan Sentra gxe, with 83245 miles on the odometer. There were no issues with car and it had always been regularly serviced. On July 29, 2010 after a normal day's activities which involved driving to and from work and a short trip within town to and from the local swimming pool, it was as usual parked in the driveway of our home at 8pm. We locked the car and went into the house and were sitting down to dinner when at 8:20pm we noticed a large plume of smoke drift by the dining room window. When we went out to investigate we saw thick billowing smoke blowing out of the hood of the car. We could also see flames under the hood. The engine was on fire. We dialed 911 and the fire trucks rolled in. The firemen had difficulty opening the hood because the heat had fused the hood to the body and they had to punch holes in the side and use crowbars to pry the hood open. After a brief dousing with fire retardant foam, the firemen put out the flames within a few minutes. Once the flames were put out we could see that the entire engine compartment was a mass of burned plastic and rubber and charred and twisted metal. The insurance company has declared the car to be a total loss. Thankfully nobody was injured and our home was not damaged. We are shocked and dismayed that a supposedly reliable compact car could without any apparent reason burst into flames and die like this one did.

6 Engine problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

While driving my 2004 Nissan Sentra (1. 8 liter 4 cyl fuel injected) at low speeds it has stopped running with no warning. This has happened 5 times over the last 5 months, with the last three times happening in the last two days. Obviously this is a dangerous situation. When it's happened I've turned off the car and waited a few minutes. If I start the car too quickly the problem immediately resurfaces. There is a recall for this exact problem for the 2004 Nissan Sentra with a 2. 5 liter engine. The same problem also occurred in a friend's car last year who has the exact same car, bought at the same dealership, as mine.

7 Engine problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 03/07/2010

This was the third time that my engine has cut off due to a malfunction of the butterfly screws on the intake valve of my 2002 Nissan Sentra se-r spec v. I have contacted Nissan corporate about the issue and they have issued a recall on the 2003 and up models but refuse to issue the recall on the 2002 model. This could have resulted in a highway crash on two occasions as well as continuous damage to my engine.

8 Engine problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

My 2002 Nissan Sentra will stop running, shut off when in low speed. This started about one year ago. I have contacted the dealership and have been told there is not recall on my car. But I have read on the internet many people with the same problem, when trying to find a fix for my problem. I also have had three dip stick come off into the dip stick holder. 12/4/08.

9 Engine problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 02/17/2009

The "service engine soon" light came on. I took it to my mechanic. He ran it through the computer and told me that it could be a transmission problem. I had a transmission flush done and light went off. A week later the light came back on. And now the car wont start. I went to the NHTSA. Gov website, read that the crank position sensor, or the camshaft position sensor or the variable timing control sensor, on the make, model and year of my car, could be causing problems. It could be causing engine power loss, which it does struggle. The "service engine soon" light to come on, which it did. Or a "not starting-up condition" which is where I'm at right now. The car does not want to start. Please help me because I think that I qualify for these services to be done to my vehicle. Thank you for your time.

10 Engine problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 10/13/2008

2nd time since owning the car that my dipstick has broken off in the oil tube. I now must either pay $150 to get it removed or try and figure out what to do to get it out.

11 Engine problem of the 2005 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/27/2008

I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra in April 2006. Since February 2008, I have had the same continuous problem. I get in my car and it simply will not start. I bought the car from Toyota and took it to them to fix it. They were unable to fix it and they sent it to Nissan. When Toyota tried to fix it they told me it was bad gas, that didn't fix the problem, they then said it was a starter, they put a starter on it, that didn't fix the problem. When Nissan got it, they fixed something, I really don't remember at this point. A few months later, the cart wouldn't start again, took it back to Nissan, they said it was a head gasket, they fixed it. Saturday when to get in my car, it wouldn't start. It eventually started later on that day. Been driving the car. This morning (4 days later) car will not start. I am at my wits end. I bought a new car because my old car was unreliable. Now my new car is just as unreliable. Bought a Nissan because supposedly it is a really good car. So far, not convinced. I now have to pay to have the car fixed because it not under warranty any longer. I am really going to have to have a heart to heart talk with Nissan regarding this continuous problem.

12 Engine problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/26/2008

Mt wife's car suddenly died without warning. The dealership told us it was a defective crankshaft position sensor. It was a $589. 00 repair. I know that Nissan has had other model years with recalls over sensors causing sudden engine loss. This incident with my wife happened while she was entering a freeway on ramp. She and her coworkers were towed back to her office. The next day the car started right up and was running fine. I drove it to the shop but it suddenly died after running for about 3 minutes. Luckily I was on a side street.

13 Engine problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/18/2008

While driving my car at slow speeds the engine died. This resulted in reduction in steering and braking ability. No accident or injury occurred though. Engine would crank, but not spark plugs would not fire, so car could not be started and had to be pushed to the curb to get it out of traffic. Car was towed to mechanic who replaced the camshaft timing detector and reprogrammed the computer which solved the problem. Old part was disposed.

14 Engine problem of the 2001 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/10/2008

15 Engine problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/02/2008

We had problems in order to turn it on. Then car suddenly stop running in the freeway. We were lucky we did not have an accident. Then the light of the engine went on. I took it to my mechanic. He told me about the recall r0606 for Nissans Sentra 2004 engine 2. 5 lt took to the nearest dealer to have my car repair, they did not want to repair unless a pay for it. I had to pay because they claim that the bin was nat in their computer, y told them that I was going to complaint to NHTSA they told me that I can do wherever I want. So I pay 275. 00 dlls to have repaired.

16 Engine problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 05/17/2008

My 04 Nissan Sentra 2. 5l qr25 engine is eating oil 4. 5 quarts in 300 miles due to a precat failure on oem header which when failed on deceleration sucks material back into the engine causing piston rings and inner seals to fail and can lead to engine fire. I have found this info also on other model Sentras too.

17 Engine problem of the 2007 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 04/14/2008

My 2007 Nissan Sentra caught on fire wile I was driving on highway .

18 Engine problem of the 2001 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 12/11/2007

Regarding the broken oil dip stick: 1- drain the oil and leave the drain plug out. 2 - use a shop vacuum to suck the lost dip stick out of the engine. 3 - replace oil drain plug, refill with oil, replace new dip stick.

19 Engine problem of the 2005 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 11/16/2007

I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra. I've had it for a year when it started squealing under the hood, it also would shake for at least 5 minutes everytime I started it in the morning. Eventually the car wouldn't start and I was told I needed a new engine. The gauges didn't warn me of any problems before hand. I took the car for regular services, always on time for oil changes. The cd player was also replaced once and still doesn't work. The car no longer has warranty and I don't have the money for a new engine at this point in time.

20 Engine problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 11/12/2007

I have a 1. 8 liter engine (Nissan Sentra) and it is experiencing the same problems that are listed on NHTSA campaign 06v242000 for the 2. 5l engine. The 11/12/2007 is the third sensor failure and engine cutoff since June 2007. The dealership has replaced the same sensor each time, and I have been lucky to have been on fairly empty freeways at the time of the failure or I would have been in an accident.

21 Engine problem of the 2001 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 09/19/2007

The plastic portion of my oil dipstick broke off on my 2001 Nissan Sentra gxe. This caused the dipstick to fall into the engine. I had to pay for a new dipstick. The new dipstick is also plastic and I anticipate that this will happen again. It does not take a genius to realize that you should not use plastic on an engine part!!!.

22 Engine problem of the 2001 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 09/02/2007

The dipstick broke off in the tube on my 2001 Nissan Sentra. The metal stick and plastic top to the stick are about 3 inches in the tube and are unretreivable by myself. The dealership wants to charge $250 to get the stick out and replace it.

23 Engine problem of the 2000 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/22/2007

2000 Nissan Sentra engine oil dipstick broke off. The dipstick is still in the tube.

24 Engine problem of the 2001 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 06/25/2007

The oil dipstick handle broke and the pastic above the dipstick is welded to the metal tube. The dipstick cannot be removed. I bought a replacement dipstick online, but the Nissan technicians say it costs $200 in service to remove the tube and get the old one out. This is a defective part.

25 Engine problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 05/06/2007

Nissan Sentra ser spec v 2003 has power failure problems, experiencing a mild loss of acceleration. Driving at 70 mph, vehicle lost full power and reduced speed to 40 mph, shut down by itself. Took it to dealership and they discovered that the screws and the "power valve" were sucked into the engine bay. Internal engine damage, same problem as 2004-2005 qr25de engine recalls, but manufacturer has not issues a recall for the qr25de in 2002 or 2003. Please request Nissan north America to issue a "power valve recall" for the years 2002 and 2003 as well. There are several consumers that have experienced the same problem.

30 Engine problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Situation recurring: long crank time before engine turns over and starts. This situation occurs when vehicle has been running for thirty minutes or more and is turned off and turned right back on as well as when vehicle sits overnight and is started in the morning. Problem!.

31 Engine problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/09/2006

My 2002 Nissan Sentra se-r experienced a power valve screw liberation consistent with Nissans voluntary service campaign # 5202. The issue is that the campaign is written to only cover 2004 and 2005 models. Obviously this manufacturing issue predates the dates covered in the vsc.

32 Engine problem of the 2005 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/05/2006

I had a head gasket problem and wire problem but I only had the car for 19 month in been in the shop more than I have had the car.

33 Engine problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 04/12/2006

Went to get an oil change today and the mechanic pulled the dipstick and discovered that the half of the plastic handle that the dipstick was attached to had broken off. We luckily were able to remove the dipstick from home with a pencil and tape, however this signifies a more common problem that this vehicle is made of shotty parts. I had to get a tune-up at 25,000 miles, my battery has corrosion problems that have been communicated multiple times to the dealer with no fix, and my computer died at 40,000 miles and had to be replaced. I will now have to purchase a dipstick since they used a shotty plastic part that corroded and broke. This seems to be a very common problem. It may not be a safety hazard, however, the manufacture needs to be held liable. . Read more...

34 Engine problem of the 2000 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 07/27/2005

The following occurred three times: while driving at highway speeds, and then stopping, and then accelerating slowly, the engine simply cut out after the rpm wavered between 500-1100 for about a minute. The car could not be restarted and two out of the three times had to be towed. After approximately one hour, the car could be started again. All three days were hot days. The problem could not be reproduced and a full inspection of the car by three mechanics revealed no apparent problems.

35 Engine problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 02/05/2005

Went to check the oil and the plastic dipstick had broken off and the dipstick has fallen down into the engine. Checking online for help on removal shows a number of people with the same problem. They want $156 dollars to fix a problem that Nissan is aware of that could have been prevented with a new dipstick not made of plastic for $3.
