3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2010

Sept 27 2010 traveling home from w. V from camping. We was on I - 77 s bound at mile maker 10 in fancy gap. We smelled something funny. I looked at my right mirror and saw white gray smoke coming out of the back of my 2004 Nissan Titan truck. I pulled over and when I put my foot on the brake I had none, due from the heat of the fire, I got out and saw my drivers side under the fender on fire. I had transmission fluid everywhere. Transmission fluid had sprayed on the manifold and caught fire, then the gas line ruptured. I had a transmission fluid and gas fire. Thank god I had a fire extinguisher as well as another man stop to help put it out, it took two fire extinguisher to put the fire out, one wasn't enough. We could have been killed but I was told that the reason why my truck didn't blow up was because I had a full tank of gas. Well I took my truck into Nissan and they told me that I had a rupture in my transmission line and that it was a defective, faulty line. I find out later that they had a technical bulletin out on the 2004-2005 armada and Titan dated Aug 1 2005. I had my truck in for a transmission flush 45 days before this happened and no one told me about the bulletin. No one asked me if I would like to replace my lines and clamps. I didn't know anything about this bulletin until Wednesday night when I did research. If they had told me about this, this could have been prevented. Nissan knows about this and I am trying to work with them. I hope they do the right thing about fixing my truck and paying my tow bills. The weird thing is I tried to get the va state troop to do a report and he said they don't do that anymore.

2004 Nissan Titan rear axle seal leaks left and right.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2010

2004 Nissan Titan - rear axle seals leaking. In shop- waiting for repairs. I understand that this is a commaon failure for this truck and that repairs most likely will not take care of the problem as it appears that it will probably occur again. Need recall to correct this problem as brakes may fail. Do we need what happened to Toyota to happen to Nissan to get results ? ? ?.

10 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2006

My truck is equipped with vehicle dynamic control (vdc). It cuts power to the drive wheels if one or both start to spin. All trucks or cars of its kind have been equipped with a switch that this device can be turned on or off depending on the drivers situation. For some reason my truck did not come with this switch, I am a sitting duck when it rains if one tire so much as slips one revolution as I can mash the gas pedal and nothing will happen. In 4x4 it does the same thing and only in 4x4 lo will this vdc turn itself off. I have asked dealers many of times to fix this as it should have came with this option and was somehow missed. I want it fixed as I have almost been rear ended at least a dozen times b/c of this.

11 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2005

The vehicle the atsc light came on and it lost power. The consumer pulled over to the side of the road, waited for 2 minutes and the computer restarted. The transmission just seemed to to slow down. The dealer found no defects and could not duplicate the problem. The vehicle also smelled of antifreeze, and the switch from high beam to low beam turns all the lights off.

12 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2004

Multiple brake and steering shudder problems with 2004 Titan Nissan se crew cab truck, dealer makes mfg suggested repairs but shudder returns creating safety worries and fear of losing control of vehicle. Moreover, transmission coolant line replaced wherein dealer informs me that blowout could lead to failure. Front tires excessive wear, vibration and shudder with or without brake application. Headlight switch design flawed, easily turned off when turn stalk activated or lights are dimmed from high to low beam. All the above problems occured and still are occuring within first 3500 miles!!.

13 Automatic Transmission problem

When putting the vehicle into reverse the transmission engaged into neutral without warning. The dealer stated they could not duplicate the problem. Please provide additional information.

14 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2004

Titan with full mfg tow package purchased to tow travel trailer. Titan rated by dealer & mfg to tow 9,400 lbs and gvwr at 14,600 lbs. When towing 8,000 lbs (gvw was 13,500) at 50 mph on flat road, no wind, approx 85 deg f transmission temp rose into danger zone. Weights were confirmed at certified scale. Vehicle taken to dealer with description of problem. Dealer said nothing was wrong with vehicle but tow was too heavy. Mfg agreed with dealer that tow was too heavy after consulting with their engineers. Neither could explain how 8,000 lbs was heavier than 9,600 lbs. Mfg asked if I would agree to a test drive. I agreed but dealer was non responsive and not available. Nothing was done and we were forced to trade trailer for lower weight trailer. We had the same problem in July 2004 on a hill with 6,340 lb (gvw 12,140) tow. I advised mgf again and they refused to do anything.
