The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan with 54700 miles. The contact stated that the rear axle seals have failed. The contact had taken the vehicle to his local mechanic where he found that the rear axle seals had been leaking onto the brakes. The manufacturer confirmed that there were no related recalls. The failure mileage was 54700.
The rear axle seals on my '04 Nissan Titan, are leaking. This is apparently caused by a poorly designed breather valve. I have checked many forums, and this seems to be a very common problem. My truck is, and has been for a while, out of warranty. However, this seems the problem is a defect, and should be treated as such. However, the Nissan dealership I have had look at it, does not see it that way. . Read more...
Bought the Nissan Titan used in November of 2007. I recently found a wet spot on the driver's side wheel (inside) under the brake rotor. I took the truck to the dealership and they said it seems to be a pretty common problem with the Titan. It's a leaking axle seal. This leak was causing brake fluid to leak around and possible onto the brake rotor, calipers, and pads. This is a very dangerous problem due to possible fire and or brake failure.
Under normal driving conditions right rear axle leaking. This is the 3rd occurrence, all of which have been right rear axle seal leaks. First time dealership replaced seal. Second time dealer replaced entire rear axle assembly. Third time, unknown at this time. Vehicle is currently at dealer.
I have rear axle oil leaking onto my disc brake rotor. I found out during a routine tire rotation. Apparently this seal failure is common on this vehicle type.
Rear axle seals leaking onto rear brakes and wheels. First noticed on 11/30/2007; however, the extent of the leak and oily residue indicate that the problem has existed for sometime.
Front and rear axle seal leaks. Fixed by mechanic.
Rear axle shaft seal defective.
Both of my rear axle seals are leaking on my 2004 Titan[67000 miles] . My dealer pointed this out to me while he was performing service on my truck. Fluid was all of the inside of the rear wheels. This truck has never towed and has never been off road. Truck is stock.
Driver side axle seal leaking.
Leaking rear axle seals on driver and passenger side discovered at 51,000 miles not sure when leaks started, but both hubs have oil dripping off of them.
Right rear axle seal leaking, fluid leaking onto brake assembly; left rear axle seal seeping. Seals had been leaking for a while. All problems fixed by dealer, but Nissan should use an improved axle seal, and a different axle vent system. The vent does not allow air pressure to return into the axle housing when there is a negative pressure situation. . Read more...
Rear axle seal leaking after only 33,000 miles. I caught it early but I concerned about how early this has happened. Small amount of oil on the emergency brake.
2004 Nissan Titan, both rear axle seal leaks, being replaced 8/23/2007. Vent tube wet with oil, suspect improper venting of differential is causing seal failures.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. While driving 65 mph, gear oil began leaking from the driver side rear axle. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure, however, they replaced the axle shaft and the axle gear oil. There had been no further occurrences. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 50,000. *updated 12/12/07 updated 12/12/07.
Right rear axle seal blew out and leaked differential fluid. Differential fluid leaking on rear brake rotors which could cause brake failure, which was a major safety concern to me. At time of failure at 56,000 miles the rear differential oil will slowly leak and cause the rear differential to lose fluid and fail. Nissan replaced spacer axle (43070-7s200), bearing (40210-7s210), and seal (43252-7s200). As this seemed to be a very common problem with the Nissan Titan, Nissan should address this issue and offer a permanent fix so it would not be faced with the safety issue in the future.
My rear axle seal is leaking for the second time with less than 27,000 miles on the truck. The first time it started leaking was around 12,000 miles and this second time is with 26,700 miles.
Rear seal leaking fluid into brake components. Front differential seal leaking.
Took my truck to the dealership for a 30k mile check up and they found the rear axle seal to be leaking. The seal was replaced but with the same part as originally installed so I worry that I will have the problem again once out of warranty.
Power train, axle assembly,a xle shaft seal, replaced replaced axle.
Axle seal failure on drivers side.
Left rear axle seal blew out and leaked differential fluid. Differential fluid leaking on rear brake rotors which could cause brake failure. Failure occurred at 27,470 miles (no suspension modifications had been done to vehicle). Also, the rear differential fluid will leak slowly and cause the rear differential to lose fluid, causing failure. Nissan has replaced spacer axle (43070-7s200), bearing (40210-7s210), and seal (43252-7s200). This appears to be a very common problem with the Nissan Titan. As such, Nissan should address this issue and offer a permanent fix so owners will not be faced with the safety issue in the future.
1) through normal use, the rear axle seal on the passenger side of my 2004 Nissan Titan 4x4 gave out and started to leak onto the brake. I was able to catch this failure early. 2) eventually, enough gear oil would have leaked out, causing excessive heat and eventual failure of the rear differential. 3) I took the truck into the dealer and they repaired the leak by replacing all parts associated with sealing the axle.
Rear seal failure.
2004 Nissan Titan rear axle seal leak. I was looking on the web when I cam across a lot of other Nissan Titan owners with the same problem. The 04 I have has 28k miles on it and the axel seals are leaking. This gear oil is now on the brake rotors and may cause a serious problem. I have stopped driving my truck until these seals are fixed. This appears to be a design related issue because I have never had this problem with any of the other autos that I have driven thru out the years. I can see this lead to a serious problem and it may be.
Rear axle started leaking oil onto the passenger side rear wheel assembly and brakes. Truck is at the dealer now, they are replacing rear axle assembly.
Two differential failures within 60,000 miles on my 200 Nissan Titan. Both failure involved wheel seal leaking and loud noises from the differential. My third differential installed by Nissan is the same Nissan stock number so I expect a failure within a few thousand miles. If I don't trade my Titan in before the 12,000 mile warranty on the new differential is up, I will have to pay the $ 3000 + to replace it. I see new stock numbers on the new 2007 models but Nissan refused to give me one of those unless I paid for it. Bet you can figure that one out. Nissan needs to extend the warranty on these differentials.
2004 crew cab Titan, passenger side front window quit working, rear axle seals are leaking, tire pressure sensor will not stay off.
I have 50,000 miles on my 04 Titan crew cab se and just found the right rear axle leaking oil all over the brake and wheel. I would think that a newer truck should not be leaking oil on to the brake as this could cause a serious wreck. I will be taking my truck to the shop this week to be repaired. I have not been driving the truck for fear that it could interfere with my braking power or ruin the rear axle by driving it with no oil.
I have a 2004 Nissan Titan that have leaking seals on the rear drivetrain.
Leaking oil at both ends of the axle tubes. No failure as of yet. Refilled to proper level, contacting dealer.
Rear axle seal leaking.
I have a 2004 Nissan Titan. Had truck in for tire rotation. Service person noticed rear axle seals were leaking. Explained this is a big safety issue because of fluid leaking on brakes. Nissan said they would need to inspect and probably replace brakes when fixing seals, thus admitting they are unsafe.
76695 miles rear axle seal leaking differential fluid on passenger side.
Axle leaked on left rear wheel. Lubricant leaked on rear brakes. I have a concern that lubricant leak presented a danger with both the standard brake and emergency brake when saturated with leaking lubricant. The working surface of brakes shouldn't be lubricated. I have grave concern that this problem was a design flaw with Nissan Titan trucks and the problem, with the inherent danger, will persist for the useful life of the truck.
