1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2022

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle rolled forward, causing the vehicle to roll into a rock, damaging the transmission. Additionally, the air bag warning lights illuminated, and the seat beats locked. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 180,000.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2021

Purchased a used 2004 Nissan Titan truck with lower miles. Rear axel exploded and burst into flames when driving down the freeway. (bowling green, kentucky) we managed to pull off to the side of the freeway without hitting anyone. Fire dept was able to put the flames out. Didn't find any recalls about the truck when we bought it. Now I have seen reports on line that this has happened to other consumers. Something needs to be done to warn consumers. We could have died. We could of hit others and killed them as well. Dealership has completed repairs and seen the defect. We have the damaged part. There were no prior warnings. Vehicle was inspected before the road trip to insure it was safe.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

Leaking axles seals after multiple replacements and incidents on road. Not covered under warranty or recall even though there are thousands of reports for this issue and axle overheating. Vehicle axle broke near bearing going 65 mph on highway with no warning two weeks ago 9/10/2019 there is still no safety recall.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2018

The drivers side rear axle broke while traveling 70 mph up 75 in ky with my whole family in the truck on the way home from vacation it looks like the axle seals started leaking and then it locked up for a split second and lost all ability to pull itself all the axles and seals have already been replaced multiple times and it's about time for Nissan to start taking the hit instead of the vehicle owners.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2018

I purchased this truck on 04/05/18 from harbor motors lihue kauai, and not even a week into having this truck it started acting up, overheating, the truck wouldn't turn over, suspensions, the four-wheel-drive wouldn't disengage, when you turn the key to start the vehicle it would make a clicking noise before starting, the ac would work when it wanted to, and the transmission and engine started knocking. The next week I went running errands and when I pulled out of my yard the truck started jerking then pressed the gas and it revved really high before slamming into drive. Since then I haven't driven the truck. And today it looks like someone just smashed into the front driver light to the side and smashed it while being parked at the place I purchased the truck from. I've continuously asked for help with little to no help at all. The truck is no longer drivable and I'm still making payments on it. The lights on the dashboard has the check enigine light on, snd the abs.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

I have 2004 Titan 100,000 miles, both back seals leaking, had to replace entire back of the truck. This should be covered by Nissan under a recall but isn't.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2016

I'm filing a complaint for the missed recall on the Nissan Titan! the design of the rear axle of this vehicle causes a rear axle seal leak. Many consumers reported this problem and complained and Nissan or this government has not issued or demanded a recall be made mandatory for this rear axle seal issue?! seems a little odd to me as this could cause major repairs and serious injury or death of this fails while out on a public roadway! I unfortunately am a Nissan Titan consumer and have experienced the same issues as everyone online complaining about them leaking and going out. I contacted Nissan and will be pursuing reimbursement for this repair!.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2015

While driving my 2004 Titan, I noticed a banging and clanging sound. I thought it was a limb stuck in my tire. Upon further inspection, I noticed oil on the inside rear rotor, passenger side. I was already miles from home on a hunting trip. I only have 79,000 miles on the truck. After hunting, I limped my truck about 30 miles home, travelling about 35 mph, while it is banging and clanging, sounding as though the wheel is about to fall off. I made several stops on the way home to make sure the wheel was still secure. I feel blessed to make it home as the wheel started to bind when I hit the driveway. After talking to several mechanics, they have seen this issue alot. The repair will cost somewhere between $3,000 to $4,000. Apparently the axle seal blew without warning and now this has chewed up the gears inside and destroyed the housing. The mechanics simply suggested to buy the entire rear axle and replace. They also stated the original design was piss-poor. Of course, this happens after placing $2,000 replacing the exhaust manifolds that were under warranty for 80,000 miles and 10 years old. Mine were 11 years old and the truck had 79,000 miles on it. The local garage said there was nothing they could do to help. It was more than 10 years old. I would hope there is something you could do to make the manufacturer liable for this expensive repair. Thanks for your time.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2015

Trying to accelerate from a stop at crossroads to go right onto a roadway with high speed vehicles approaching. My rear end made a loud bang and back end seemed to lock up or skip and couldn't get going - nearly rear ended by vehicles on roadway while trying to enter as couldn't get going. Took to Nissan dealer and apparently rear end spider gears gone. 71k on vehicle, changed rear diff. Fluid to Nissan recommended type at 35k, no towing, no hard driving, and less than 1 hour total lifetime use of 4x4.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

The front axel separated at 75,000 miles. Dealer stated it would cost $1,600 to repair. I went online to check pricing and if others are having the same problem and they are. . Read more...

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2014

My rear end on my Titan began grinding when turning. After researching this, I found hundreds of people with the same problem. This is a defect on the first models of the Titan and Nissan will not report a recall on them. If these rear ends lock up when the vehicle is being driven on the highway or while towing a trailer, people's lives could be lost. The consumer should not be responsible for a design flaw that has affected such a vast population of Titan owners. Furthermore, Nissan only offers a full rear end replacement at the low price of $2,500. Something has to be done about these problems! a recall must be issued before more lives are put into jeopardy.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

Rear axle seals were leaking, had replaced, began leaking again almost immediately.

14 Power Train problem

Transmisson fluid diluted with anti -freeze from faulty radiator /tranny cooler Nissan needs to adress this problem it is a stall issue , a safety issue , its an expensive repair ,and not uncomon.

Had rear fixed at dealer and it broke again. Now the truck has sat since the date of failure, meanwhile im paying on it still. Called Nissan corp. They said (they were aware of the problems but they were not going to fix it). Not a very respectable corp. .

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2012

2004 Nissan Titan truck - rear axle seals are leaking so badly oil is getting on the rear brake rotors causing them to be in-operative. This is a very serious problem experienced by many Titan owners as shown with a simple internet search.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2012

Rear passenger axle seal is leaking and is coating brake pads and brake rotors. This should not be leaking especially when this vehicle is not high mileage nor is it driven crazy/recklessly. This is causing brakes to not be as effective as it should be.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2012

I first heard a "whine" or "howl" coming from the rear end 2 years ago, when I took it to the dealership, they told me I need a complete rear end assembly at the cost of 4000$. I could not afford that, and they said you couldn't rebuild the rear end, because Nissan wouldn't release the parts for it. I drove on it for 2 years before it went out on me on the 21st of April, 2012. Ive read up on hundreds of complaints, about the rear ends on Nissan Titans going out, and Nissan not having a recall.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

Had the rearend go out 91,000 miles had Nissan rebuild then went out again at 94,000 miles Nissan didn't stand behind their warranty now still sitting in the driveway till find a good salvage one .

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

Rear diff started with small wine noise in am on wat to work - 11. 6 miles. Went to lunch - another 6 miles - noise a little louder - not bad - just a little louder. Go home in evening - made it another 6 miles and noise sounded like some one was crashing into the back of the truck as the back end locked up and sent me skidding across the road. Luckily no one was in the lane next me!! failure according to dealer was from the 'vent' tube being clogged and causing it overheat and blow the seals. . . So, almost a catatrophic accident if was on highway, and now 3500 dollars to fix because of a 5 dollar check valve! this is insane. Google around for the Titan rear diff, and I am not the only one out there!!!!.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2011

Car into dealer for service. Found two cracked manifolds on both sides of the engine resulting in excessive noise and exhaust gases to be released into the cab. Both sides need full replacement at nearly $1,200 per side. This is ridiculous on a vehicle with only 70k miles on the clock.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

The real axle seals in both sides are gone and continuous leaking is inevitable.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

Instrument lights stay on, brake vod, slip. Google search lead to checking real axle seals both are leaking. No repair to date will take to shop on Monday 6/20.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2011

Not known while driving vdc abs brake lights all come on ,found both rear axel seals leaking.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2011

Truck was due for a state inspection, truck would not pass- because of rear brakes not functioning due to leaking rear axle seals. Rear axle seals leaking causing emergency brake to not function. Found a forum with the same problem many owners are having-titantalk. How can this problem, which is a safety problem, not be a safety recall? come on Nissan, you just lost another customer. Thanks to you, I will be only buying gm products.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2011

The rear axel shaft starts to leak due to seal failure but is actually due to spider gear failure causing excessive pressure build up causing the seals to fail. There are over 1000 recoded instances on the internet and supposedly one causing a serious accident with injuries. On calling 3 different dealers all were aware of the issue but nothing is covered past the 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty. All dealers service centers stated they have not seen this failure prior to that frequency.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2010

Driving when I heard noises from back of truck 2004 Nissan Titan stopped and checked , called a tow truck and found out I had blew rear axle seal and the pin from the rear end and now I need to replace the whole rear end called Nissan they said 2006 was corrected and to look for aluminum cover ones because the steel cover ones were the old version.
