When vehicle was taken for routine service, mechanic found that both rear axle seals were/had been leaking and likely to fail if not corrected. Mechanic advised very unusual for failure at such low mileage and age of vehicle. Vehicle had recently been serviced by dealer at scheduled warranty check where seals were reported to have been inspected.
Rear axle seal leak.
I purchased this 2005 Nissan Titan new. During a recent oil change and service at 34,150 miles I noticed fluid leaking onto the both sides of the rear brake rotor assemblies. At first I thought it was brake fluid but upon closer examination I discovered it was gear lube from the rear axle. It was leaking past the seals and down the backing plates and dripping onto the wheel and some of that oil being slung onto the brake rotors themselves. I stopped driving the truck since I felt this is now a safety issue and called the dealer. They advised me to bring truck in for inspection which I did on 1/3/08 at 34,206 miles. They confirmed seals are leaking and ordered parts. I asked them to make a note on the service order that I have stopped driving truck unless needed. They then called and told me parts are in and truck was brought in for repair on 1/14/08 at 34,361 miles. The parts that were replaced under warranty are as follows; qty-2 p/n:43070-7s200 axle spacer, qty-2 p/n:40210-7s210 rear bearing, qty-2 p/n:43252-7s200 oil seal, qty-2 p/n:01541-0001u snap-ring and qty-1 999mp-df100p synthetic diff fluid. I am very happy that Nissan repaired and covered this under warranty. But, I am very disappointed that this type of failure occured at such low mileage.
Dvr rear axle seal leak (which saturated brake pads leading to possible severe problem, but was caught before any situation) at 28,xxx miles, rear axle seal leak pass. Side (warranty optioned to replace whole rear end axle assembly at 36,200 miles, rear axle seal leak both sides including 3rd member seal at 60,xxx miles, rear end ring and pinion "grenaded" at 61,xxx miles (extended warranty still unsure on coverage due to lack of rear end maintenance records, I. E. - lube change) (required maintenance is every 30,000 miles, I have not put 30,000 miles on the vehicle before a major issue. ).
I have a Nissan Titan and the other day I was taking off my receiver hitch when I noticed that my rear axle seal was leaking bad, but it has not been leaking for long cause I checked it out the week before. I have to take it in and see what the Nissan dealer says.

Rear end seals leak leading to rear differential failure and oil sprayed onto rear brake assembly.
2005 Nissan Titan left rear axle seal failure. On the morning of 8-21-2007 I noticed oil inside my left rear wheel. I climbed under the truck and could see clearly where it had leaked out the end of the axle. The previous day I had been traveling back to my home from a 6 hour trip. I filled up with gas about 3 hours away from home-I did not see any oil in rear wheel (gas cap is next to wheel). Problem had to happen after fill-up-this is a major problem because I was traveling at night,70 mph on interstate. If all fluid had of leaked out ,that could be catastrophic at that time. Also I do not think that it is safe for diff oil to be leaking on rear brake disks. I know that Nissan is having problems with these seals on Titan trucks and think they should be made to come up with a lasting repair before somebody gets killed or injured. My local dealer replaced the leaking seal.

I bought a Nissan Titan [2005]. New. I have 86,000 miles, out of warranty and the right rear seals has started to leak. Dealer want fix it as a factory defect, also the right tire sticks out more than the left. I need help proving it's totally factory problem.
During a recent oil change, the technician pointed out the axle end seals were leaking onto the rear brake rotor assembly on my se king cab. This reduces the brake's ability to stop. I currently have 81,000 miles on this 2005 model. My extended warranty ran out at 75,000 miles just about 6 weeks ago and this problem was probably happening during the warranty but I didn't notice it as I change my own oil myself most of the time. After looking over the internet, I have found that this is a common problem among the Titans. Nissan should address this problem as they did the brake problem.
During the most recent oil change, I was directed by the technician to the back side of the rear wheels, both sides. From this vantage point, you can easily see that lubrication from the rear axle is leaking onto the rear brake rotor assembly via the axle end seals. I immediatley contacted Nissanusa and have been attempting to get answers from them as to what, if anything they will do to rectify this condition. My extended service plan has recently expired. According to internet forums for Nissan Titans, there have been numerous problems with this and it appears to be a safety hazard. Nissanusa continues to give me the run around by avoiding any dialogue.
Rear axle seal failed, causing differential fluid leak at right rear hub. Caused low level of fluid in differential. Entire axle assembly being replaced.
We own a Titan and are satisfied but had some issues as can be expected with a newly designed vehicle. Each has been taken care of under warranty from our dealer alan jay of sebring florida, a very professional operation I might add. The one most recent of concern caused brake interruption and when I inspected the brake system one of the rear brakes appeared to be leaking, which I suspected that to be the problem. The dealer determined that it was a rear axle seal and replaced both the seal and the bearing which had become damaged. After checking the internet I have found this to be a quite common problem that has been overlooked. We use this vehicle daily for business and already have 44,000 miles on it and it is not yet two years old. My concern is my warranty will run out with exceeded miles brfore the time limit and the other axle can have the same problem. Why did they only change one? I would like the other side changed as they are identical in design. Please respond to my request, this can be dangerous situation.

Ihave a 2005 Nissan Titan and the rear seals has started to leak on the rear brake and rotors. This could possible cause fire or lost of brakes. In addition to the leak ,the right rear axle stick out more than the left. Dealer said there was no chance of the wheel coming off and refuse to fix it as a factory defect. My truck has 87000 miles. Driven over 5000mi before I notice the leak. I cummute 120 mi. Daily to and from work , which account for the miliage. I did very little towing.
