Though we did not know it at the time, the fuel vapor emissions control unit had a small fire into the charcoal chamber and the solenoid switch. This attaches to the gas tank so when we saw it, we were horrified. I have saved the unit and had it replaced. Nissan dealer said there was no recall on it, but the new unit was built somewhat differently. Also have pictures if you would like.

5 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

The instrument panel fuel guage displayed that the vehicle still had fuel. The vehicle stalled on the highway, in traffic, and was out of gas. At the time we had no idea what was wrong and only knew it would not start. We had the vehicle towed to the Nissan dealership who diagnosed it was out of gas and the fuel sender was faulty. The fuel sender resides inside the fuel tank according to the dealership but they will not fix it at their expense. Our particular VIN # is not covered for the identical issue that is under a current recall.

6 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/21/2011

At highway speed, vehicle shut off and would not restart stranding wife and kids on highway. The fuel gauge showed 1/4 tank of gas, but it was later found that the tank was empty. Same condition as documented in NHTSA campaign 10v074000, but Nissan corp. Stated that vehicle is not covered under previous recall because VIN range/manufacture date is prior to specifications of recall. Nissan has stated that there is nothing they can do and has offered no assistance in this matter. *safety issue - a major collision could have occurred at highway speed due to vehicle's inexplicable shut down.

7 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/13/2010

1st incident occurred during rush hour traffic. I was driving around 25mph when my Titan started to stall and then came to a complete stop, was just about rear-end by delivery truck. I was stuck on the street in the middle of traffic for 2 hours before a tow truck was able to come tow truck. I had mechanic look it over and it came out that I had run out of gas, mechanic looked at fuel gauge and it was reading ¼ of tank but would not start. Once couple gallons were added truck started right up. Mechanic stated that fuel gauge is reading wrong, mechanic looked up to see if there was any recalls. There was a recall for the 2005 Nissan Titan for the fuel system not reading correctly. But dealer stated that my VIN number didn't fall into that recall. Mechanic stated it would be over $900 to fix. So I had to tell the mechanic not to fix it. Over the years, I have run out of gas about 3 more times due to the fuel gauge not reading correctly. Last time I ran out of gas my infant son was in truck and was just about side swiped from another vehicle at an intersection. I need to do what needs to be done to get my Nissan Titan added to this recall, I cannot afford to pay this to be fixed. Recall id #68299 ? fuel system, other: storage:fuel gauge system.

The manufacturer confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall and provided no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000. Updated 05/05/11 updated 05/13/11.

9 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

While fueling, gas back flows out of inlet during first 1/4 tank. Fueling must be done at a trickle for first +- 5 gallons, or you end up being doused with gasoline.

10 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/12/2010

In August of 2010 was the first time I experienced a problem. The vehicle lost power and died while driving on a main street going approximately 45 mph. Later I discovered that the vehicle was out of gas despite the fuel gauge being at 1/4 tank. Today, after nearly 1 1/2 of keeping my truck above 1/4 tank and logging my miles, the vehicle engine power died on me and failed to start because once again it was out of fuel. . . This time reading just under 1/2 tank. Both situations are extremely unsafe and caused unnecessary stress. I've called the dealer and they are aware of problems with the fuel sending unit on the Nissan Titan model trucks but can not do anything without the official recall. It is widely known that there is a recall on some of the Nissan Titan models and should be extended throughout all of the failing fuel systems before myself or someone is faced with extreme injury.

11 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/07/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Titan. On may 7th I ran out of gas while my fuel gage was still showing 1/4 tank. I was on a fairly narrow state highway in wisconsin and came close to someone rear ending me while I was on the side of the road. I filed my complaint with Nissan and just heard back from them today that there is a recall on the 2005 Titan for this issue, but my VIN number was not included in the recall. Even though my truck is running out of fuel unexpectedly also.

13 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/04/2010

16 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

Driving my 2008 Nissan pro 4x king cab. Fuel gauge read 1/8 tank and computer said I had 8 miles more fuel. Previously when it gave those numbers I had 4-5 gallons of fuel left. Ran out of gas. Fortunately I was not on the interstate doing 70 in rush hour traffic. Would have been difficult to get to shoulder of an 8 lane highway.

20 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/14/2007

At 42,000 miles, my 2004 Nissan Titan started leaking fuel from the fuel tank. My Nissan dealership states that it is due to a faulty fuel sending unit and fuel tank. I have researched this topic online in forums and have found that this is a common problem with 2004 through 2007 Nissan Titans. I have made a request through Nissan corp. For a "good will repair" and have not gotten a response in three days. My vehicle has been at the dealership for eight days. The dealership replaced the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit.

21 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/06/2005

While putting gasoline into my 2004 Nissan Titan it spills back out of the tank. The gas will go into the tank then the pump will stop and then gas will spuw back out. This normally happens several times before I can get the tank full. This has happened more than one time, it happens anytime my tank is low and I am ready to fill up with gas. The tank has been replaced by the dealership. This has not solved the problem.

22 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/22/2005

I have a 2004 Nissan Titan and whenever my gas tank is low and I go to fill up after a while gas will start to gush out. I've taken it to the dealership and like always they can't "duplicate". I know other Nissan Titan owners with the same problem where gas squirts out. This is a heath and saftey issue. The gas has gushed back out at me several times. . And it happens about 30 seconds after you start pumping gas.

23 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

Gas tank "spews" gas at you when filling. The tank has been replaced and still does this. The brakes "judder" and cause the vehicle to shake. They have been repaired three times and are still not correct. Nissan refuses to admit this is a significant safety issue. There are technical service bulletins on the brakes.

24 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/23/2004

Numerous problems have arisen with my leased 2004 Nissan Titan king cab. Including serious vibration problems that occurred upon braking to the point the vehicle was parked until the dealer finally agreed to at least 'turn' the rotors. Eventually brakes were replaced by dealer 6 months after the initial problem. Currently facing problems including a noise at startup that everyone can hear except the dealer mechanics, an overflow problem with gas tank even though just a few liters have been put in an empty tank. Additionally major problems with driver side door refusing to open from both the inside and outside. Dealer has realigned door numerous times but problem continues. Dealer states the door problem is due to a poor design with a heavy door on inadequate hinges. Occasionally have had to drive while holding door closed. Extremely dangerous considering weight of door. This truck is barely one year old and problems just keep piling up with little dealer support offered.

25 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan
