37 Wiring problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/16/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. While driving approximately 5 mph on normal road conditions, the exhaust tail pipe was damaged due to an unknown obstacle on the road surface. The vehicle resumed normal operation. In addition, whenever the driver's side door was opened, the parking light activated without assistance and the driver's side turn signal was nonfunctional. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the tail pipe disengagement contributed to the melting of the wiring harness. The vehicle is operable and has not been repaired. The manufacturer did not assist. The failure and current mileages were 65,000.

38 Wiring problem of the 2007 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/07/2009

Column shifter causes damage to wiring harness of the manual mode transmission button. When shifting vehicle into drive, column hits wiring harness, and over time causes wiring to the transmission manual mode button to break. Once this breaks, there is no means to down shift vehicle, causing a hazard especially when traveling roads where there are elevation changes. Was able to determine the cause of the manual mode button failure by researching Nissan Titan forums (club Titan and Titan talk). Upon removing steering column shroud immediately noticed chaffing of the wiring harness, and the broken wire. Contacted Nissan, Nissan was not concerned with this issue due to the age (currently 3 years) of the vehicle.

40 Wiring problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/20/2008

On 6/20/2008 I went to a Nissan dealership to resolve a recall item to replace rear door wiring harness, recall # r0616. The recall was performed and in the process the dealership also replaced lh-pretensioner, seatbelt and body harness, and reset airbag warning light. On 6/03/2013, the airbag warning light came on and I went to a nearby Nissan dealership and was advised that I would have to replace the lh-pretensioner, seatbelt and body harness, I informed the service advisor that this work was already accomplished once and that I had the documents if he needed them. The service advisor then stated that since the work was accomplished five years ago that even though the parts are a safety item that they were no longer under warranty, resulting in a 574. 30 charge of which I paid. My contention is that this is a safety item, and thus should not have a warranty restriction, I am not sure if the truck is even safe to drive.

41 Wiring problem of the 2007 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/08/2007

A 7 way trailer plug adapter was plugged upside down into a 2007 Nissan Titans receptacle socket and it caused the chassis wiring harness, the engine wiring harness and the main wiring harness to all melt down. Other electrical components are also probably damaged. It would appear that there was not a properly designed circuit to limit the damage to the electrical system or it malfunctioned. Although the vehicle did not catch fire, the plastic coating on the wiring was melted down, the plug adapter was very hot and it potentially could have resulted in a fire if the plug would have been left in long enough. It is suggested that this defect be investigated by Nissan.

42 Wiring problem of the 2006 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/16/2007

On April 16, 2007 thenissan Titan' driver side rear door caught on fire. There was nothing in the door pocket that could have ignited, just a bottle of water, and the keys were out of the ignition. The fire appeared to have started around the speaker area and spread to the rest of the door panel. I got the fire put out before it spread to the rest of the truck, but the rear seat and door were destroyed.

43 Wiring problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the air bags failed and the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 06v459000 (electrical system); however; the repair did not correct the failure. The dealer diagnosed that the air bag wire was loose, but the wire repair did not correct the failure. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle again and determined that the air bag wiring harness assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 30,000.

45 Wiring problem of the 2006 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/15/2006

The vdc [vehicle dynamic control] kept shutting off. This is a safety feature to regulate motion and speed of the 4 wheels. The vdc would not turn back on with the vdc dash button. The dealer stated the rear differential bearings had failed and the Titan was unsafe to drive. It's been at the dealer waiting for a new rear differential for 2 weeks. The truck was not delivered with the power folding - auto dim exterior mirrors; the xm radios did not work; bed extender not installed; gas tank wasn't full as promised.
