Nissan Versa owners have reported 7 problems related to brake disc pads (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Versa based on all problems reported for the Versa.
The vehicle has difficulty slowing down while driving. And brakes seem not to stop the car (weakened brake pads) it felt like I was losing control of the car. Also the car would loose power when stationary at stop lights. This could be very dangerous if this occurred on a highway or while in motion. I hope they don't rent vehicle out until mechanical issues are solved.

I purchased my 2017 Nissan Versa in July of 2017, with 10 miles on it and that was the 10 miles that I put on it during the test drive. March of 2019 my brakes start to make this high pitch sound when I break. My car does not have 28,000 miles on it yet. Took it to midas (because brakes are not covered under the warranty) and they told me my front break pads were thin, so had those replaced. Three days later the sound is back. So midas did not fix the problem they just took me for $200. 00. My car is still making the high pitch sound when breaking.

It was a rainy day outside. The front and back brake pads/shoes were replaced 10,000 miles previously at a Nissan dealership in dover, OH. I was driving on normal pavement. I drove on a highway at speed limit of 70 mph. I drove on a village main st at a speed limit of 25 mph. It did not matter what speed or whether the vehicle was straight or turning: whenever the brake pedal was depressed there was a loud clunking noise. After that, when the gas pedal was depressed there was another clunking noise. The noise was coming from the brakes. I asked a passenger to join me to test the noise and even let them drive. They confirmed. The noise suddenly stopped after 30 minutes of driving. Once it stopped we pulled over and popped the hood and smelled what seemed to be brake fluid. Checked all the fluids in the car and they were fine.

Bought the 2016 vehicle October 15, 2015. Right away noticed a problem with the automatic gear shift not moving smoothly from gear to gear. The brakes groaning/whining and the emergency brake loosening. Car drifting/pulling right on highways and left on streets. Rattling from under car carriage. Popping and squeaking on right front passenger door. The a/c straining and not cooling car cabin as it should and the a/c interior switch not engaging or staying engaged when pushed. Thumping/clicking sound heard when braking. After numerous complaints made the dealership verified all of my complaints but not in a timely manner. First complaint was acknowledged on October 28, 2015 but claimed there wasn't any abnormalities found. On December 8, 2015, March 16, 2016, April 22, 2016, August 17, 2016 and August 23, 2016 repairs were repeatedly made consisting of replacing gear shift knob, entire gear shift assembly, sanding rotors, replacing brake pads, replacing entire brake assembly and tightening emergency brake. But as to date problems still exist. On February 9, 2016 repair to the suspension and steering. On April 5, 2016 repair to lower rear exhaust shield remounted. On may 31, 2016 door check straps re-secured. On June 23, 2016 faulty bmc switch replaced but problem with a/c still not resolved and a second problem has arisen. A/c turns on when defroster is engaged. On September 23, 2016 problem with both front inner cv joints and axles acknowledged but part on back order. Repairs made on October 27, 2016 in another state. Problem not resolved. Sound still heard when driving over speed bumps, cracks or slight bumps on streets or highways.

I took my new 2013 Nissan Versa back for the new brakes shoes as directed by my dealer. I am told they replaced the back brake pads and had to turn the rotors. I have never had a new car with this kind of issue. The man who talked to me talked about dust and rust as possible reasons or even setting a car up & not using it. . . My car is always parked inside and an 8 month old car with nine thousands miles plus hardly "sets up. " I want to carry my grandchildren in this car & now fear there is a defect in the braking system. The squealing crunching sound the car was making is gone.
My rear brakes started squealing just after 6300 miles, not consistently. My dealer checked them & said they were fine. Today I took it back and was told the rear pads needed to be replaced. My car has just over 9,000 miles on it currently. I looked this problem up on Nissan blogs and found many others experiencing similar brake problems.
The contact said that in the last year the front rotor and pads on the vehicle have over heated and broke. The rotor and pads has been replaced 3 times. This happens at all times regardless of speed. There has not been an accident, but the vehicle constently has problem stopping. This is only having to the front brakes and not the back. 2000 miles at time of problem and 5000 miles on vehicle now. Updated 06/29/10. The consumer stated there was too much heat on the brakes which caused them to wear out quickly. Updated 09/27/10.
