1 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/02/2026

Electrical/ecu failure while shifting gears (manual transmission), can be inspected by dealership. Vehicle stalled while going into 2nd gear and could not crank/start, happened in busy intersection, emergency tow had to be called, could have easily gotten hit/injured. Problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by dealer/service center. Has been inspected, but only to replace the blown fuse, not to solve the underlying issue. No warning lights prior to failure, only a fuse that keeps blowing (15 amp, slot 55), alarm/beeping does sound when key is turned (possible anti-theft).

6 Electrical System problem of the 2025 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/04/2026

Vehicle engine and all electrical shut-off, at intersection of xxx. In [xxx] on February 4th (on or before 6:57 am mst) where the hazard lights failed to come on. My further answers to the questions above as [jhh]answer[/jhh]: what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? [jhh]the engine, and all electrical, lost power, including the hazard lights. The rental car company has possession, I do not know if they will allow a safety inspection, or not. [/jhh] how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? [jhh]the vehicle was disabled in the middle of the intersection, blocking traffic, I had to open the door, get out of the vehicle, and manually push it out of the way so that a cement truck, and other traffic could get through. My safety was put at risk, as the hazard lights failed to operate, so that fast moving, un-coming traffic, can be warned, to prevent a lethal collision. [/jhh] has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? [jhh]not that I know of. [/jhh] has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? [jhh]the vehicle has been inspected by the rental car company when it was returned on February 12th. [/jhh] were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? [jhh]the hazard lights failed to turn on. I suspect, if there is an "advanced safety feature" installed, it may have created an unsafe, "failsafe" condition, where it not only disables the vehicle, but also, disables the hazard lights. There was some road space between me and the traffic light, so I slowly drove forward while looking down at the dash board. This is about the time the vehicle shutoff completely, when the light turned green, and I could not move out of the way, of traffic, and could not turn on the hazards. [/jhh] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/30/2025

Mileage: approximately 45,000 current status: inoperable; held at joe machens Nissan pending evaluation by Nissan consumer affairs. Description of the problem the vehicle has become completely inoperable, making it unsafe to operate. In the months prior to the failure, traction control warning indicators intermittently appeared on the dashboard. I did not recognize their significance at the time and did not document them, but they may have been early warning signs of the current operational failure. Approximately 22 days prior to the vehicle becoming completely inoperable, it underwent a recall update, oil change, and tire rotation at joe machens Nissan. Staff reported no concerns at the time. Shortly afterward, the vehicle began exhibiting reduced driving function and erratic power, which eventually led to complete inoperability. On [xxx], while commuting approximately 40 miles at highway speeds (up to 70 mph), the vehicle exhibited unpredictable engine response. The rpms fluctuated erratically, and the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 70 mph. There were no dashboard warning indicators at the time. The vehicle is currently in the care of joe machens Nissan pending evaluation by Nissan consumer affairs. I am submitting this complaint to document potential safety concerns and to contribute to investigations regarding this vehicle model, including similar complaints reported by other 2021 Nissan Versa owners. Safety impact statement the operational failure poses a risk of reduced vehicle control and potential accident while driving at highway speeds, even in the absence of dashboard warnings. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Electrical System problem of the 2015 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/08/2025

My skid mark symbol comes on, does not go off until 2or 3 days later. My Nissan will not accelerate over 20 miles per hour. I have had mu vehicle checked several times at the grainger Nissan dealership several times within the past 4 years after they installed a new transmission. They found and corrected other issues, but not what causes the traction lights to come on and decrease speed causing me to have to use flashers and bike lanes where ever available until I get home. Independent mechanics have checked, knocked off traction light. It only comes on again. I have another mechanic at precision tune to check it out tomorrow. The last date of this occurrence was 12/ 08/2025.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 11/20/2025

First this is an automatic. Not a manual. Nissan Versa s. 14000 miles. Bought used. The vehicle will drive then all the lights on the dash will turn on. The tachometer will then go to zero and will no longer move. The vehicle will then only go 20 mph (limp mode). I can move to a parking lot. I will then attempt to start it and it will not even turn over. After about 10 to 15 attempts, it will start. The engine light will remain on. The dealership (of course) cannot duplicate the problem but we do have it on video happening. They also said it needs to happen when they drive it. Last time I only get a few miles down the road from the service center when it happened. Had to be towed back. This problem has occurred at least 5 times. Sometimes its just the engine light that turns on. Other times its all lights. It has gone into limp mode at least 3 times during operation.

10 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

Transmission failure 2 times. First time experienced jerking and some smoke coming out and second time same jerking and smoke along with electrical system failure. Nissan paid 40% the first time to help and I paid 60% even though I did not agree with that I did it. 2nd time they refuse to pay anything because of warranty even though it only took 40, 000 miles and transmission went out gain. Obvious that the transmissions are trash. The constant jerking and smoking in engine and electrical failure not to mention I was in a hit and run and ran into a tree and brake system did not work and the air bag did not come out after running into a tree. Please people run from Nissan fast. I'm thankful for my life.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

New 2024 Versa s 5 speed purchased in Aug 2024 from jim click Nissan dealership in tucson, az. I brought it in to Nissan dealership 2 months later 4200 mi, for complaints of surging, fluctuating fan speeds with air conditioning on high & to check alternator. They couldn’t reproduce problem. It continues to persist to this day as I write this on 4/20/25. Alternator values show 13. 46 v with load off, 12. 29 v with load on. Nissan dealership denies alternator or ac fan problems and no action taken despite 3 service visits/complaints. On [xxx] I attempted to accelerate out of the dealership parking lot. With no warning signs or check engine light, car had power loss and unable to accelerate: rpms would rev to 3500 in gears 1-3 but car would only reach 35 mph max with full throttle. In 4th gear, max throttle, engine rpm’s would not exceed 2250 rpm’s. I continued through 4 miles of local street traffic to reach home, including an anxious moment making a left turn at traffic light narrowly missing oncoming traffic due to loss of acceleration. When I arrived home, I shut off engine and after 10 seconds restarted it and the problem was gone and able to drive normally. This was the first episode ever and experienced at 21,720 miles, and recurred again the following day after stalling on an incline at a right corner traffic light. I immediately restarted the ignition and applied throttle to ascend the incline and to avoid rolling backward to hit the car behind me, only to lose power & stall again. No check engine or warning lights displayed. After another attempted engine restart, I was able to advance & car drove normally. This limp mode power loss can be reproduced after engine stall from rapid clutch pedal release, followed by engine restart. Autozone alternator test on 4/19/25 revealed “charging system failure. ” on 4/22/25, Nissan dealership unable to reproduce limp mode despite my explicit instructions to quickly release clutch to stall, then restart. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of in.

17 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

I purchased my new 2024 Versa s 5 speed on [xxx] from jim click Nissan dealership in tucson, az. I brought it in to Nissan dealership 2 months later [xxx], 4200 mi, for complaints of surging, fluctuating fan speeds with air conditioning on high. They claim they couldn’t reproduce problem. It continues to persist to this day as I write this on 4/20/25. I checked the alternator myself with multimeter on 4/12/25 & it revealed acv ripple of 29-30 volts! battery at rest 12. 7 dcv, battery at idle 13. 8 dcv, battery 13. 9 dcv under load, and repeatedly producing same values on morning of [xxx], just minutes before bringing car in to jim click service appointment for follow up of fan fluctuations & request for alternator check up. However these data results conflict with jim click Nissan dealership diagnosis on 4/18/25 service visit when they stated and documented that the charging system tests all passed & alternator is fine, and witnessed no a/c fan fluctuation. Thus no repairs done, and sent me on my way. As soon as I drove off the dealership lot on that [xxx] evening, the car lost power and went into limp mode as I accelerated out of the parking lot, and continued through 4 miles of local street traffic until I arrived home and shut off engine. After a few minutes I restarted engine so that I could video record same limp mode issue but the problem was not evident after this engine restart. This was the first episode ever experienced and it occurred at approximately 21,720 miles, and recurred again the following day after stalling from early clutch pedal release, followed by engine restart. The episodes happen on both flat surface and slight incline. The faulty alternator must have a part in this, as surging alternating current is causing sensor malfunctioning affecting a/c fan speed and ecu communication. Autozone alternator test on 4/19/25 revealed “charging system failure. ” information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

18 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 03/22/2025

We’ve had our 2024 Nissan Versa that is an automatic transmission for over a year now and there has been some minor issues like headlights getting brighter as you accelerate, sometimes when it’s colder outside I’ve had the auto lights not work because of the advanced driver assistance systems lights would pop on like they not working anymore. The heat seems to take forever to get warm. Now the latest issue is with out any kind of warning whatsoever a friend and I went to the casino and spent about an hour or two inside came out to leave I had turn the key to acc and left it on like that for I don’t know maybe 10 mins before I was done checking gps and ready to leave ( mind you I’ve had in on acc before several times & for way longer) and it will not start! I am currently waiting on roadside assistance to come jump start the car and hopefully that’s all that’s wrong!.

19 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 03/21/2025

On 3/21/25 I was informed by malik's auto repair that I need my transmission replaced after a diagnostic of my car making a vacuum noise. After researching, I found that many Nissan vehicles have been experiencing this problem. I contacted Nissan and they informed me that no recall has been made for my make and model. It is a safety issue because at any time the car could stop causing an accident or fatality. Also, I had to have my starter replaced on this car. My car would not start. I was out with my daughter and if it was not for me having aaa we would have been stranded. Nissan stated that this issue was fixed on my car prior to me purchasing it. There is no record of this issue being fixed on carfax and I paid almost $600 to replace it. Nissan have not assisted me with anything. Now I have to try to come up with the funds for a transmission.

20 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 03/15/2025

Several recalls but dealer my did not have any.

21 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/21/2025

I am writing to report a potential safety and design defect in my vehicle that I have also noticed affecting many other owners of the same make and model. The issue involves the rubber seal at the edge of the windshield, which is supposed to prevent water from entering the engine bay. However, the rubber is not properly secured—it merely sits in place—allowing water to pass underneath it. As a result, water accumulates on the valve cover near the ignition coil, creating a risk of electrical problems, including misfires or potential engine failure. Over time, this could lead to serious mechanical and safety issues. After researching, I have found that many other owners of the same vehicle have experienced this same problem. I believe this issue poses a safety concern and should be investigated further. Please advise on any next steps or potential recalls regarding this matter. Thank you for your time and attention.

22 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/12/2025

Has an issue with the mass flow air sensor. I had this car for 7 months with 84,000 miles on it and noticed instantly that it had poor mileage and stalled a lot. Check engine came on the first time and I took it to have a diagnostic test and a p101 code came on, a couple of days later the car wouldn't start. Replaced the mass flow air sensor and the car was driveable but it had the same poor gas mileage and stalling that it did the first time. Went out again within a week for the 2nd time. Got it replaced recently a third time and im still having acceleration, poor gas mileage, and stalling. Car isn't safe to drive and does not pass the smog test .

23 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

I have replaced the mass airflow sensor multiple times also transmission is starting to slipping, not responding correctly, when this starts all the lights on my dash come on and also does not accelerate or respond as it should very dissatisfied when they saw me would never recommend to buy another one.

24 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 01/25/2025

My 2024 Nissan Versa s goes into a "limp mode" almost any time I stall and then turn the engine back on. In this limp mode, acceleration is dangerously slow. Often acceleration is so weak that if I drive up a hill in this limp mode, the car will lose speed even while I'm pressing the gas pedal all the way to the floor. This can easily be reproduced and inspected by purposely stalling the car in a quiet parking lot and then trying to accelerate out onto a road. In this mode I cannot reach safe speeds on major roads in a timely manner. I have to turn my hazards on and let people go around me as I accelerate for a full minute. On highways and major roads with higher speed limits this is quite dangerous. When stuck in this mode I do not have the ability to accelerate fast enough to get out of the way of any oncoming danger. If this mode turns on in a safe quiet area, I may be able to turn the car off and on until the issue goes away, but if I stall at a busy traffic light, I'm now in a dangerous situation until I can get off the road and to a safe spot to turn off the car and test that the limp mode has gone away. Also, turning the car off and on doesn't always work. I have on two separate occasions been stuck in limp mode for multiple drives. The Nissan dealership in wake forest, nc confirmed that they know about this issue and said they don't currently have a fix for it. A check engine light has turned on two times after entering limp mode, they erased the code and it has never come back since despite still going into limp mode.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 01/20/2025

I pulled up to a stoplight that was on a hill and tried to put on the brake. The brake pedal was highly resistant and wouldn’t let me push down fully. At that moment, all of the warning lights on the dashboard turned on. When the light turned green, I tried to hit the gas pedal but the car wouldn’t move forward. The car started rolling backward and I almost collided with the car behind me. I had to stomp on the brake as hard as I could to get the vehicle to stop. I then had to put on my hazards, put the car in park, turn it off, and turn it back on again before the vehicle worked like normal. My spouse said he’s had the same thing happen to him twice in the past year. Each time, the brakes and accelerator pedal freeze up and all the warning lights come on. But after turning the car off and on again, it goes back to normal. I don’t think this is a battery problem because the car battery is less than one year old.

26 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/15/2024

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Versa. The contact stated upon inspecting the vehicle, she noticed water intrusion in the tail lights and headlights. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electrical system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

27 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/10/2024

While driving the car just shuts off and I have to stop the car turn the ignition off and then back on, this has happened multiple times and the dealer said there are no recalls on rhus vehicle.

28 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/09/2024

The gear shift selector is stuck in park. Being forced to use the manual override in order to drive, reverse or place car in neutral every time the car is being used. This is ridiculous!.

29 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

Critical loss of power on the highway nearly causing multi-car accident and personal injury. No warning lights. No notice of any kind. The car would not rev or accelerate regardless of gear or effort. Would not fix after trying to restart the car several times once I was able to get somewhere safe and calm down. This is the 5th time this has happened in 1,600 miles but 1st time on a +25 mph road, other times driving down the street to school. Brand new car purchased in August. 33 Nissan (dealer) has had the car over a week and cannot replicate or find any codes. Car is unsafe to drive, yet dealer states to "come and get it". Contacting attorney. This is not driver error: I have solely driven manual transmission cars for the past 20 years.

30 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/02/2024

Vehicle would not accelerate past 55 mph after stalling. No warning. Got on the highway and the car was extremely lagging and the accelerator produced no response. Floored the vehicle and still nothing. Had to pull over and cycle the key 5x to fix the issue. I have stalled a few times, and this was the first time to “limp mode” occurred. The vehicle can be inspected at request of NHTSA. I believe it’s a common issue with these Nissans based on what I’ve read from forums.

31 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/29/2024

The brakes fight and lock from time to time. The steering will get a tug like a car is in front of me. The engine has a weird tug before pulling of and switching gears. When I pull off while turning the car feels like it completely losses power!?.

32 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/10/2024

I was practicing manual transmission on my new Nissan Versa and when I stalled, that check engine light came on and I lost a lot of power in all gears. In first gear, there’s also a whine that goes with it, and I don’t think that’s normal.

33 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Nissan Versa

34 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/03/2024

My 2024 Nissan Versa has acceleration problems. In less than 24 hours of having the car, when driving and without warning, the power of the vehicle began to decline while I was driving in traffic. It didn't matter how hard I pressed the acceleration the car would continue to power down. This caused cars to honk and swerve to avoid crashing in the back of me. It took many pumps to the accelerator to get the car to power to the speed of traffic again. The car also powers down to nothing intermittently if I am stopped at a red light on in rush hour traffic. Again, I am having to press the accelerator numerous times to get the car to work and with that, there is a jerking feel to it. Also within 24 hours, a service symbol appeared on the dash while driving and then went away within 30mins of driving. I took the vehicle back to the Nissan dealership I purchased it from and they claim they did not find anything wrong.

35 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

In July 2024 my airbag light came for no apparent reason. I took it to Nissan service-they got it off with no guarantee it would stay off and said the airbag would have to be replaced if it came on again. In came on again in June 2026. I got my oil changed at a local shop and they got the light off verifying it was the l side airbag causing it to flash. That lasted about 2 months and it is flashing again. I got it off turning the key on and off 3 times. I am not 100% sure the airbag would work if needed. Nissan wants thousands of dollars to fix it. I wonder why this hasn't been a recall. Many Nissan owners have had the same issue.
