2 Power Train problem of the 2022 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 03/17/2026

I purchased this car from carvana on 02/25/26, 2022 Nissan Versa s manual transmission. On four occasions over the course of two separate days, while under way, I lost power and the car went into a limp mode. Twice I was able to pull off the road, twice I had to stop on the road. After coming to a complete stop I was able to place the car in first gear and continue on driving. This power loss puts me at risk to be rear ended by the following car. I took it to the Nissan dealer on 03/17/26 expressing my concern. I was told that they could not find any code in the car that indicated the trouble I experienced, nor was there any illumination of the check engine light. Because of that I was told that my car could not be serviced.

Failure Date: 03/12/2026

2015 Nissan Versa 83,850 odometer reading complaint: safety for other individuals driving similar vehicles. Daughter was driving recently on 91 freeway in long beach, CA extremely busy highway on a Friday afternoon. Driving in the middle lane the cars forward movement stopped but car still running. Mechanic diagnosis was the cvt transmission. The car did not give us any warning at anytime there were any issues with the transmission. My concern and hope other would know about cvt transmissions this could of been a very bad day for my daughter if an accident was caused due to this issue. Thank god for the California highway patrol, the 911 operator and the California tow truck highway patrol who got her off the highway quickly and safely.

5 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 03/03/2026

0 the vehicle has a cvt transmission failure causing severe shuddering, jerking, and progressive loss of acceleration. Initially the vehicle would not exceed 20 mph, then worsened to 15 mph, then 10 mph, and now will not exceed 5 mph. The issue consistently occurs after the vehicle has been driven for more than approximately 2 minutes. There are no warning lights or alerts prior to the failure. The vehicle has completely lost power while driving and has stopped in the middle of the road with no ability to accelerate or restart the vehicle, creating an extremely dangerous situation and risk of collision. This appears to be a known and common defect with the cvt transmission on this vehicle model and year. The condition has progressively worsened and makes the vehicle unsafe to operate.

6 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/19/2026

The car has 56000 miles and the power train is still under warranty. The cvt belt recently started slipping. When I stop and then take off normally, there is a jitter in the transmission that can be felt and heard. Sometimes it is quite loud and vibrated quite heavily to the point there is concern it will break or fail. It also hesitates at times when accelerating from a stop or slow down and you can hear and feel the slippage before it kicks in. I took it to st charles Nissan stating they test drove it and the jittering happened twice. The dealership says that Nissan told them this is normal ans all Nissans do this in ludington new ones. Mine did not do this when it was new. My daughter has a new nissn Versa and hers does not do this. The dealership says they can investigate further by re wording the anomaly and will charge me if Nissan says they won't cover it under warranty. Very distressing.

7 Power Train problem of the 2021 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/18/2026

Cvt transmission failed while driving transmission popped and no forward drive leaving us in traffic unable to move in forward. Had to get out and push the car to the side of the road. No warning lights no warning signs. Just immediate loss of forward drive. Engine revs up but no movement. Dangerously leaving us in harms way. Haven't had the vehicle inspected by Nissan yet but will be doing so in the next day or so. Vehicle is and will be available for inspection or assessment at any time.

8 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/13/2026

While merging onto [xxx] toward [xxx] , my 2016 Nissan Versa suffered a total loss of power while crossing active railroad tracks. The car stuttered and jerked before completely stalling and stopped responding. I was stranded in a high-traffic zone around [xxx] pm. I was worried that the vehicles coming behind me would not see my small car right away, as I was positioned past the railroad tracks and partway down the middle of the downhill slope. Because of the crest of the hill behind me, I lost sight of approaching traffic in my rearview mirror, which meant drivers coming over the top of the hill wouldn't see my stalled car until they were already descending toward me. I was fortunately able to get it restarted and drove it immediately to a Nissan dealership. A diagnostic scan confirmed code p0746. The service technician told me the cvt assembly is internally destroyed ('toasted') and requires a full replacement. This catastrophic failure happened at only 50,484 miles, which is dangerously premature for a major transmission component. (note- I have a tech video that they sent me of there diagnostic just cant apply to the notes) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

Recently out 2020 Nissan Versa started "shuddering" when accelerating at low speeds. I took it to the Nissan dealership and they quoted me $7,000 saying the transmission had to be replaced. I conducted online reviews and found Nissan customers experience this same issue in concerning numbers. I found multiple Nissan technical bulletins about this very issue, with this vehicle. Not only is it concerning they are allowing the safety of our loved ones to be at risk, but then do not have the loyalty to the customers to fix the problem with a recall.

12 Power Train problem of the 2021 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/27/2025

My 2021 Nissan Versa was struck at high speed while parked and required extensive repairs that exceeded the vehicle’s value. After the repairs, the transmission began acting erratically. The car shudders, hesitates, and feels unstable while driving. Acceleration is unpredictable and the vehicle does not feel safe or reliable. These issues were not present before the collision and have continued to worsen. I have children and do not feel it is safe to operate this vehicle, so it is currently parked.

13 Power Train problem of the 2021 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/22/2025

Need to put in complaint the cvt transmissions has been doing a lot of whining and jerky. Spoke to the dealership they stated had no idea what it was. Started to investigate and found out there were recalls in the 2012 to 2015 cvt transmissions on Nissans and there is pending investigation in the years 2020 to 2023 for the same thing. Was told by a car repair to put in complaint. Due to the fact my Nissan stopped and would not move in the middle of an intersection which almost caused a wreck. There were no warning lights it just wouldn't go into gear. This is a big safety issue. It was due to the cvt transmission issues same as the ones in the 2012 to 2015 investigations. It was inspected by a independent service center.

16 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/05/2025

I have a 2020 Nissan Versa it only has 100,000 miles on it. That’s not really a lot since it had about 75000 miles on it. I noticed that the car started slightly jerking. I couldn’t figure out what was going wrong and neither could anybody else eventually at around 100,000 miles I took it into another mechanic and he found the problem. The transmission is slipping and it is completely ruined. The whole transaxle assembly needs to be replaced not only is this expensive but it’s also very dangerous sometimes when I try to move the car I put in gear I start to drive and it jerks so bad that it starts to stall when I contacted Nissan about this they refused to help with any solution. The transmission costs anywhere from $8000-$12,000 for that price. I could buy a new 2020 Nissan Versa.

17 Power Train problem of the 2019 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 04/30/2025

Engine slowing down during acceleration, transmission not changing gears, and jittery driving during 40-55 mph.

19 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

I have a manual transmission and can usually go up a steep hill by my house in 3rd gear. But on this occasion in 2nd gear I was unable to maintain speed even with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. It was also having trouble maintaining speed on less steep highway hills. The dealer replaced the alternator which helped, but I feel this puts my safety and others at risk because I was going much slower than expected and felt that I might not even be able to get up the hill. After the alternator was replaced, it has not happened again. There were no warnings then or after, but the dealer said there a code for fuel sensor that they could detect with their computer.

20 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

New 2024 Versa s 5 speed purchased in Aug 2024 from jim click Nissan dealership in tucson, az. I brought it in to Nissan dealership 2 months later 4200 mi, for complaints of surging, fluctuating fan speeds with air conditioning on high & to check alternator. They couldn’t reproduce problem. It continues to persist to this day as I write this on 4/20/25. Alternator values show 13. 46 v with load off, 12. 29 v with load on. Nissan dealership denies alternator or ac fan problems and no action taken despite 3 service visits/complaints. On [xxx] I attempted to accelerate out of the dealership parking lot. With no warning signs or check engine light, car had power loss and unable to accelerate: rpms would rev to 3500 in gears 1-3 but car would only reach 35 mph max with full throttle. In 4th gear, max throttle, engine rpm’s would not exceed 2250 rpm’s. I continued through 4 miles of local street traffic to reach home, including an anxious moment making a left turn at traffic light narrowly missing oncoming traffic due to loss of acceleration. When I arrived home, I shut off engine and after 10 seconds restarted it and the problem was gone and able to drive normally. This was the first episode ever and experienced at 21,720 miles, and recurred again the following day after stalling on an incline at a right corner traffic light. I immediately restarted the ignition and applied throttle to ascend the incline and to avoid rolling backward to hit the car behind me, only to lose power & stall again. No check engine or warning lights displayed. After another attempted engine restart, I was able to advance & car drove normally. This limp mode power loss can be reproduced after engine stall from rapid clutch pedal release, followed by engine restart. Autozone alternator test on 4/19/25 revealed “charging system failure. ” on 4/22/25, Nissan dealership unable to reproduce limp mode despite my explicit instructions to quickly release clutch to stall, then restart. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of in.

21 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 04/16/2025

Car sometimes stall after releasing clutch too soon on first gear and goes into limp mode. Luckily I haven’t gotten hit from behind yet when this has happened but came close multiple times. The limp mode is what scares me that I will get into an accident.

This is incredibly dangerous as I was only able to climb the hill at about 20 mph while the flow over traffic was 55 mph.

28 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/20/2024

Manual transmission barely responded to acceleration with gas pedal to the floor (literally the gas pedal was engaged as far as it would go). The sluggish response was present in all five gears. To restate, the car was extremely sluggish - it barely accelerated. This has been an episodic issue that has occurred about six times over the course of 8 months. In additional details, I put in the date of the most recent occurrence but it has happened multiple times since purchasing the car new in April 2024.

30 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

Critical loss of power on the highway nearly causing multi-car accident and personal injury. No warning lights. No notice of any kind. The car would not rev or accelerate regardless of gear or effort. Would not fix after trying to restart the car several times once I was able to get somewhere safe and calm down. This is the 5th time this has happened in 1,600 miles but 1st time on a +25 mph road, other times driving down the street to school. Brand new car purchased in August. 33 Nissan (dealer) has had the car over a week and cannot replicate or find any codes. Car is unsafe to drive, yet dealer states to "come and get it". Contacting attorney. This is not driver error: I have solely driven manual transmission cars for the past 20 years.

34 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/23/2024

Brand new Versa delivered 8/16/2024. Started to hear chirping, whirring noise from clutch pedal when halfway depressed (right before bite) and also when releasing pedal, halfway up, when engine is warm. First started at 1200 miles and continues presently. Taken to Nissan dealership on 10/8/2024 and was told their mechanics don’t have the time to drive around and make engine warm to reproduce clutch symptoms. Major concern as this is brand new from the Nissan factory already exhibiting major clutch symptoms indicative of faulty release bearing/release fork, causing potentially catastrophic transmission damage a few hundred or thousand miles from now, when it could have otherwise been prevented promptly, under factory warranty. Vehicle is available for inspection by NHTSA. No one injured.

35 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/18/2024

I stalled my vehicle (5-speed manual) in a drive through. I quickly restarted the vehicle and proceeded through. When I pulled out onto the main road my car had no power. There was nowhere safe to pull over so I had to continue. My car would not accelerate above 20mph and even that was extremely hard. I had to downshift to 1st gear to proceed up the hill. Finally, I was able to pull off and restart my car. This fixed the issue and I was able to drive home. I’ve not stalled the car before so I had never experienced this issue. I’ve read about it, and having it happen is terrifying. Had the car who was driving behind me been going faster, I likely would have been hit when I pulled out of the drive through. This is extremely dangerous.
