1 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2020 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/14/2022

My wife was driving her 2020 Nissan Versa sr back from a doctors appointment at 3:30 pm on 14 Feb 2022 traveling about 25 mph thru residential area when both side air bags exploded and totally encapsulating her so she could not breath nor move to steer the vehicle and it was all she could do to apply the brakes. A fire truck ws right behind so so were able to render assistance and cut her out of the air bags so she could breath. The air bag impact severely hurt and caused bruses and hearing loss and shock. There was no impact nor door closures nor anything else other than a malfunction which caused this. This car has less than 15,000 miles. The. Cars trouble code showed a roll-over cause the air bags to deploy; however, again there was no impact nor roll-over nor any damage to this vehicle which could cause air bags to activate. Please understand the air bags were activated by what appears to be a completely random electrical malfunction. I suspect the caue might be somesort of sensitivity to electromagnectic radiation such as the new 5g cell phones or high powered radios so. . . . In the past. . . Nissan determined the wrong combination of metals was used in the side airbag sensor connector harness, causing oxidation on the pins of the airbag control unit harness connection. The oxidation on the connector pins can cause a short loss of communication from the satellite sensor to the airbag control unit. The Nissan Versa curtain and seat-mounted side airbag system will enter a backup mode when signal loss occurs and this backup mode allows the curtain and seat-mountain side airbags to deploy as intended in a crash. However, the backup mode that kicks in from signal loss changes the requirements that must be met for the airbags to deploy, so simply slamming the doors can activate the airbags. Typically the force needed to activate the airbags can only come from someone slamming a door from the outside, but real hazards exist if occupant is inside the car when airbags deploy.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/02/2021

On February 2, 2021 around 0820 on south marine corp drive rt. 1 (across east agana mobil gas station) the driver's side airbag in my vehicle had unexpectly deployed while driving (vehicle in motion) to work; while in the middle of rush hour traffic. I'm had the vehicle towed to Nissan guam for them to investigate and the results were given to me by service manager gibert a spiral cable in the steering column grounded, overtime causing a short circuit in the airbag module which enacted the unexpected deployment and has nothing to do with the recall. And because the airbag has deployed we there is no recall items to replace. The vehicle remains in Nissan guam's possession at the moment.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 03/30/2019

"takata recall" Nissan dealership will not replace the drivers side airbag, it has replaced 2 airbags only. Bags replaced are side airbag on drivers side, and front airbag for passenger. Spoke to manager of 2 dealership but say those not replaced were not specified, therefore will not replace. Also could not tell me if they were a different brand. Said I would have to pay them to check the brand. Why. Would Nissan use different brands on same car?.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 01/06/2019

I'm just curious as to this newest recall Nissan has issues for certain Versa sedans and hatchbacks. You see, both my front passenger and front driver (steering column) airbags both had to be replaced due to a recall. Now, the side air bags are beginning to show up on the recall list yet when I enter my VIN, it shows no active recalls. I'm not really a betting woman but I will say that if my driver and passenger were replaced, wouldn't it stand to reason that the side airbags should probably be included in this newest recall Nissan has put out? I got two side airbags. One on my driver and one on my passenger. And I don't want little metal fragments exploding in my face if impact comes to my car. Please let me know as it can take a while for my dealership to get the parts needed to replace the airbags. You know if two out of the four airbags have already been recalled, chances are the other two are next.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/20/2018

My front passenger door was closed and my side airbags deployed. My 4 year old son was in his car seat in the back seat on the passenger side when the air bags deployed. My car was in drive but I was not moving, I was dropping a friend off at home. It was on a city street. Nissan is refusing to pay for a rental until they come and look at my car, which they said would take 6 to 8 weeks.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/02/2018

I took the car in for the recalled springs, they were fixed. I took the car in for the replacement air bag, it was fixed. Then the light came on on the airbag again and the dealership said it was a passenger side airbag sensor and it would cost thousands to fix it. He said the car was worth less than the fix would cost.

10 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 05/04/2018

Between notice for the passenger side air bag recall and then the recall for the driver's side air bag, this process has been unreasonably long and required far too much effort on my part to resolve. At every step this has required far too much of my personal attention and time. The only way I've been able to make this recall process work for me is by setting up a google alert about Nissan recalls to remind me to call them periodically. Otherwise they would never inform me about any developments with this recall. When I finally called them again they required far too much information from me just to give me information about the recall. It's like they just want to put so many roadblocks on this process to make sure that most people just give up and drive unsafe cars instead of getting them fixed. And that's at each step. I give all this information when I talk to one person then I talk to someone else and have to give them the same information and then the next and so on. I can't believe how much time this process wastes. And finally the dealership is ready to replace the driver side air bag. I should be grateful and happy that the process is finally over but they tell me that they've had the parts since February and ask what my problem is getting this fixed. February. They didn't send me any notice about this and the recall hasn't been updated to show that parts are available, and it's my fault somehow? Nissan has to be held to account for this inefficient and wasteful process. I don't imagine most people would stick through this process the way I have and that most people would end up simply not getting their car's fixed. There will only be more and more casualties if Nissan isn't forced to make their recall process reasonable and sane.

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 02/09/2018

Takata recall I went to grey daniels Nissan in brandon, mississippi last year (I want to say August) after reading an article on a financial column I follow in regards to the takata air bags. I was not notified in anyway prior to that. I bought my vehicle used from someone which is what I blamed for not being notified. (however I know that is quite possible that a large company such as Nissan keeps records of vins and could track their vehicle's ownership through that) they replaced the passenger side air bag and broke part of my dash in the process. I was notified that the driver's side air bag was unavailable for replacement and would not be until the beginning of this year. Even though I know that they make replacement air bags for vehicles, I made an excuse and told myself, "maybe it's a certain company they're going with. " I have been trying to get the driver's side replaced since the beginning of this year. Their website would not allow me to schedule anything more than two days in advance until last week, when it allowed four days in advance. I made my appointment and clearly stated why I was coming in. I was informed that it would was not available at that time and they would have to order it. I know people who have other manufacturers who have gotten a rental car while they were fixing the air bag. I was told to contact my insurance company so the insurance company would pay for the rental, not Nissan.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

"takata recall" on October 21, 2017 we took our 2009 Nissan Versa into the Nissan dealership in abilene texas after scheduling the recall replacement of both airbags. Upon picking up the vehicle the same day we were told only the passenger side airbag was replaced because they did not have the driver's side airbag. I was told by the service advisor that due to takata going out of business the replacement airbag was not available and could take several months before becoming available. I asked about loaner vehicle at that time and she indicated their dealership was not providing loaners due to low inventory. She gave me Nissans 800# and told me they would set-up a rental from enterprise. However, the vehicle was being used by our 20 year old son who is a student at a university in town. She said he couldn't obtain a vehicle until he was 21. A few day later I called Nissan consumer affairs and was told to call back after our son turned 21. On 1/2/18 called nca back, they told me a "regional specialist" would call on 1/3. At 4:58 cst on 1/3/18 I received the call back, but it was someone calling on behalf of the reg. Spclst. Essentially telling us the abilene dealership had no loaners, and that the enterprise the dealership used had no vehicles either. She stated they should be getting the replacement parts "ASAP" but would give me no timeframe. So I asked her if my son had to risk his life by continuing to drive the vehicle for an unspecified time period until then, she would not respond to that question. As a parent with a son who is about to graduate from college and begin his life independently how am I supposed to accept this outcome. Nissan says they have had no problems with the driver's side airbag, but is a young life worth the risk? apparently it is to Nissan.

14 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/15/2017

Nhtsa recall 17v-449 my local Nissan dealer has not replaced my drivers side air bag. I have been on a waiting list for 6 months!!!!.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 12/12/2017

Takata recall - both drivers side and passengers side of my vehicle have been recalled. When I called the dealership closest to me, they told me to come in to get my airbags replaced. When I went in, they told me that the driver's side airbag would not be ready and that they would get in contact with me that day to set up my rental vehicle while I waited for the airbags to be available. After calling again, I have heard nothing from them for 2 weeks.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 11/22/2017

"takata recall" at the end of September 2017, I received a letter from Nissan north America stating my driver side airbag is on a recall list and that parts would be available spring 2018 and I would get a second letter when the parts are available. So I was given at rental car since they were out of loaner cars at fred anderson Nissan of raleigh, nc. Which is good. Two weeks ago I got a call from the parts dept. Of fred anderson stating that my driver side airbag part is in and I should come for a repair, so I asked if they had an official letter from Nissan north America, because I had not received the second letter notifying me of the part being available. I asked him what brand and he (alex) said takata and it was a limited supply. Now that company and all its holdings have gone bankrupt. I said I would call him back. Then I received an email from their internet sales person chad susan stating that I should bring my car in and trade it in for a new car, since the recall part will not be available until spring 2018, they would take my car now if I wanted to trade it in for a new car. Hmmmm same dealership. Then I got a call from lauren from service stating the driver side airbag recall part is in. So I called Nissan north America consumer affairs on 11/10/17 ans spoke to bridgette and she said the recall part is not in and was not aware of any limited supply of airbags for the driver side recall. She said she would open a claim and a claim rep,. Would call from a 615 number. So I got a call from jacco from Nissan north America claims who stated that he spoke to the service manager and service director and they had a limited supply of the airbags. So I asked jacco to send me a letter or an email stating that they indeed have a limited supply of airbags for the recall part and he said he could not do that. This is alarming!!!!!! even if takata!.

17 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 11/02/2017

Takata recall contacted Nissan on 11/2/17 and they stated that they would not have the driver side airbag parts until April 2018 for repair. They advised me not to my vehicle and thus leaving me with no means of transportation. They want me to contact my insurance in regards for a rental car and they are making me responsible for storing my vehicle until the parts are available, 6 months from now.

18 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 10/31/2017

Takata recall I'm not sure what is considered a "timely manner" for this repair. I received notice from Nissan in August telling me to not call the local dealer and to wait for Nissan to contact me when parts are available. Today I get a legal notice in the mail regarding the takata chapter 11 bankruptcy hearings and told to contact a local dealership. Edwards Nissan of council bluffs, IA told me they will not have parts until at least early spring 2018 and they would put me on the list of people to contact when parts became available. I guess to me, that is not very timely. That is an "estimate" of when they "think" they can fix it. I'd also like to know if this recall is supposed to include just the driver side bag or if it is supposed to include the passenger side airbag. Doesn't make sense to me to make me take it in twice if my vehicle has just not been released as searchable regarding the passenger bag.

19 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 10/24/2017

Takata recall. I went to Nissan slidell dealership and they replaced passenger side airbag but I was told it was driver side. So I went looking for passenger side. I fond that Nissan covington dealership had this replacement. So I went to covington they in turn tell me it was the passenger side that was replaced. So I had to wait till spring of 2018 for that replacement. I am afraid to drive my car that someone will hit me and the airbag kill me.

20 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 10/03/2017

Takata recall I was informed last week via a letter that I have two recalls on my vehicle. So I did what Nissan told me to do and went to a dealership, to pick up a loaner vehicle provided from Nissan. We went through all of the paperwork and they informed me that the driver side airbag will not be available until spring 2018. I accepted this fact and was willing to accept their loaner vehicle and bring my car home and not drive it. When we got to the rental agreement they informed me I would not be able to use the vehicle for lyft or uber driving, lyft is my main source of income and I have no other option. I am also a driver for amazon flex and I'm leaving pizza hut. When I went to sign the rental agreement they informed me that I would not be able to use their vehicle for my job. Also they informed me that I would need to contact Nissan for it to be approved to be able to use the vehicle for commercial purposes. This is my only means of transportation and income. So I contacted Nissan and the person I was connected with escalated my case to a regional Nissan manager. The second person called me back within a few hours and informed me that I would not be able to use the vehicle for my job, and that if I choose to continue to drive my current vehicle I would be relinquishing any rights if the airbags were to harm me. So I either choose to accept their loaner vehicle and find a new job, or refuse the car and drive my current vehicle with airbags that might harm me and or occupants of my vehicle. While I was at the dealership I attempted everything I possibly could I even asked if they would be able to accept my car as a trade in they denied to this because of the airbags. So I have the choice of changing careers or continue to drive a car that could possibly injure me or any occupants. I was informed to contact the NHTSA by the dealership I purchased my car from.

21 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Takata recall: my driver's side airbag is under recall and parts will not be available until spring 2018. I called my dealership for information about a loaner vehicle until the repair can take place. After finally being redirected to the service manager from talking to several individuals, I left a message which was never returned.

22 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

"takata recall" I have been told by the Nissan dealership in canton, michigan that they wont have the airbag parts until March 2018. It is the drivers side airbag and I need the car to go to work each day; however, I am afraid to drive it but have no choice.

23 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/28/2017

Takata recall received NHTSA recall 17v-449 pertaining to the driver's side airbag. The recall discribes the condition as dangerous to the driver of the vehicle. Contacted mcgavock Nissan in lubbock texas due to purchasing the vehicle at this dealer. Service department told me to just drive the car that it was not an issue. When I asked about the complimentary loaner I was told that wasn't going to happen. This is my commuter car for work, so now I have to find another vehicle to drive until the parts are available. I don't understand how this dealership makes this my fault. They seem to take no responsibility on the matter. Is there no avenue for the vehicle owner to take as far as getting the complimentary loaner car mentioned in the recall notice. When I call all the phone numbers given, they just circle back and send me to another number that circles me back again. The same dealership damaged the dash on the passenger side when repairing the passenger side airbag months ago. It's like I bought a new car that I can't use and it's my fault. If Nissan isn't going to honor a recall that they chose to send out, why did they send it out in the first place. Nissan is just shifting responsibility for their shortcomings to their own consumers. If I continue to drive the car and it explodes in my face, Nissan with say that I had been warned of the problem and shouldn't have driven the car. However, they give you no alternative because they have no intention of providing a complimentary loaner car.

24 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/26/2017

I received a recall notice saying that my driver side airbag made by takata needs to be replaced and that parts will not be available until the spring of 2018, and that Nissan would supply me with a loaner car until the parts were available, when I talked to the dealer ship they said that I'm not eligible for a loaner because I'm only 23 years old, meaning if your under 25 it's ok to drive a car that could take your life. Also I found out that my passenger side airbag and front springs have a recall on them that I was never notified about, so my question is are company aloud to leave unsafe vehicle on the road leaving me to hope nothing will happen because of my age? I have no tickets or accidents and I've been driving sense I was 16 years old. Thank you adam coots 510-453-9137.

25 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/25/2017

Received passenger airbag warning this spring. My daughter was forced to drive around with everyone in the back seat. Months later we get a recall for the driver side airbag. Now my daughter can't even drive the car! replacement parts aren't expected til 'spring 2018' which is months away. What am I supposed to do with this car during that time?.

26 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/21/2017

I have contacted 3 different Nissan dealers in fresno, clovis, merced and none of them no anything about the recall notice I received. What's more ridiculous is it cannot be fixed until spring of 2018! this is a defect with the driver side airbag that can cause death. I need to be in a rental care until this can be fixed. Notice received in mail 9/21/17.

27 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/14/2017

Takata recall - took auto to dealer for recall on passenger side airbag. After completion and oil change dealer tells me about a recall on the drivers side. Have not received notification yet. Dealer suggests we park the auto and not drive it until parts to repair are available, which will be April of 2018. That is 7 months! will give us a "new" rental vehicle every 30 days, but we have to furnish insurance coverage on the vehicle. For work I park in a garage, and scratches and occasionally dings happen. This would be normal wear and tear for me, but they are explaining that my insurance would have to repair. I have a $500 deductible, and this could possibly be a very expensive solution. Why would takata not have the parts to repair the vehicle? why should I assume such liability and possibly expense. Took vehicle to hays Nissan, madison, tennessee.

28 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/13/2017

I purchased this vehicle used and was informed that the manufacturer needed to replace the passenger side airbags. I made several appointments and they were all cancelled stating that they did not have the part and that they part wouldn't be available until spring 2018.

29 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Takata recall. Got a recall notice from Nissan. Said don't allow anyone to sit in passenger side of car. Called van nuys Nissan multiple times for 2 years until they finally could repair it. Three months pass without that omnipresent stress. Then another recall notice arrives about driver's side air bag. Says parts not available until spring 2018. Similar message to before. I have no expectation they will be able to repair my car by then. Afraid to drive but this is my only car. I do work at home so drive less than other people, but I can't stay home 100% of the time. Nissan should replace these vehicles. People have died.

30 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/31/2017

Takata recall, never notified of 1st passenger side recall, much less the new driver side recall. No parts for drivers side airbag. Are we supposed to drive a vehicle that may explode and send metal in to us?.

31 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

Takata recall - our 2008 Nissan Versa had a recall notice that I received in March 2017, stating "do not allow passengers to ride in the passenger seat" due to metal shrapnel potentially striking driver or passengers and causing serious injury or death. It also stated "Nissan anticipates parts to be available for your Versa by the end of April 2017". Since then, I had not received any new updates or notice from Nissan. In August 2017, I phoned Nissan's consumer affairs division and was informed that the driver side airbag also had a recall for similar fatal risk. They said they would look into a form of compensation since the car could not be driven. After setting me up with a local Nissan dealership (campbell Nissan of edmonds), I would find out the dealership expected me to drive the car to the dealership as a prerequisite to get setup with enterprise rental car. This seemed to be flawed plan, considering the driver's side airbag posed a fatal risk. Along with that, because the rental car would require me to add insurance new coverages, Nissan consumer affairs refused to reimburse any additional insurance cost I had to assume for their rental loaner vehicle. The takata airbags parts still do not have an expected date. With the lack of notice (phone call, email, letter) outside of the initial notification for the passenger side airbag, there could have been serious injury or even death to my wife and I due to the lack of communication and ownership on Nissan's part. Not only that, they have setup a very poor system for helping consumer's transition to their offering of a rental vehicle. Attached are the original letter I received as well as a "campaign vehicle storage agreement" that Nissan requested I sign, even though it suggested I was ok to drive the vehicle to and from the dealership before repair. 32 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

Takata recall - I found out about the driver side airbag recall on August 10th from social media and called my dealership on August 12th (ferman Nissan in tampa, FL) expressing my concern about the recall and asked for it to be repaired. I was told that repairs were not available at the time, nor did they expect them to become available until mid 2018. I expressed my discomfort at driving around in a potentially fatal vehicle and requested a loaner vehicle until my car was repaired. I was denied a loaner vehicle from the dealership, and was told to contact corporate about it. I did, and received an email on August 22nd denying me a loaner vehicle, and was told to contact my dealership. I don't feel safe driving my vehicle every day, but have no other choice.

33 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

I received a notification from Nissan a few months back (I believe it was in August 2017) letting me know about a recall on the driver's side airbag for my 2008 Nissan Versa. I called the Nissan dealer empire Nissan ontario, CA (909) 906-7424. I was the parts wouldn't be available until spring 2018. I asked should I still be driving my car, is it safe? at that time the dealer told me to call Nissan north America headquarter, there was nothing he do or say about my car and the recall. I tried several time to call the headquarters and I have been put on hold for long period of time to where I had to hang up. I still have no answer on is it safe for my family or myself to be driving our car? thank you jacqueline a dunn.

34 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

Takata recall I have received a notice of recall for drivers' side airbag, but Nissan has told me they will be unable to supply the replacement for at least a year. There is a waiting list. This is my main concern. Also, I have received a notice of chapter 11 being filed by takata, and this concerns me as well, in case the parts and replacement will not be provided. I have no choice, financially, but to keep driving this car in spite of the safety hazard.
