41 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra and recently I had my "service engine soon" light come on. I found out that earlier Nissan Xterras and pathfinders had the same issue. It was a code p0463, fuel gauge detectionproblem. The earlier models got this to be a recall, but the newer Xterras have not. To get this fixed I can only get it done by the dealer and is around a $600 repair.

Have 2005 Nissan Xterra and the fuel guage reads empty or a 1/4 fuel then it shoots up to full. We never know how much fuel is in there. It has been below freezing here in the north and I am scared my wife and kids will be stuck out of fuel someday soon. There are thousands of people with this problem, apparently it is the same problem for a bunch of Nissan trucks and suvs around the same year. Please help!.

44 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2010

2005 Nissan Xterra stalled causing the vehicle to jerk while in reverse. The vehicle had struck a steel beam causing significant damage. The fuel gauge was misreading, showing my truck had gas while in reality it was empty.

45 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

Fuel sending unit problem. Fuel gauge reads empty no matter what fuel level actually is. This turns on service engine soon light and low fuel level light. Code read relates to low fuel. Problem is intermittent at this time. From reading posts online this problem seems to be very common among many Nissan vehicles though the dealer will not repair if vehicle is past 36,000 mile warranty.

46 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

My 2005 Nissan Xterra has experienced a failure of the fuel sending unit which causes the incorrect amount of fuel to be displayed on the gas gauge, causing the potential for running out of fuel on the highway and a significant danger to the driver and passengers. Nissan is currently recalling model year 2006 and up vehicles but has not yet included the 2005s. It is imperative that Nissan include the 2005 models as well.

47 Gasoline Fuel System problem

53 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2010

"check engine" light on my x went off showing error code p0463. It seems this is a very common problem with Xterras and pathfinders. In fact, that previous generation Nissans were actually recalled for a similar issue. Unfortunately, no recall has been placed on the part for the 2nd gen yet, and so Nissan customers are being forced to have the dealer make the repair to the tune of about $600 seems outrageous. . . . . . . . . They should recall it.

54 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Check engine light on constantly showing error code p0463. This refers to a fuel level sensor on my 2005 Nissan Xterra. They light will come back on a few days after being reset. Not knowing the correct fuel level can cause the vehicle to suddenly run out of fuel, causing a dangerous situation. The repair costs around $600. 00. The 1st generation Xterras (2000-2004) had a similar problem that turned into a recall campaign by Nissan. By reading the bulletin boards, this problem is also widespread on the 2nd generation Xterras (2005-2010), but Nissan has not issued a recall yet.

55 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The check engine light came on and the fuel reader is not functioning so I have no idea how much fuel I have. I hooked up a diagnostic to it and discovered a code that indicates a faulty fuel sensor. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs and explained the problem. They made me go into Nissan and have them diagnose it. They charged me $120 dollars and told me that the fuel sensor was faulty and it was going to cost $600 to replace. Nissan just recalled all Xterras from 2006 to 2008 because of faulty fuel sensors. I found a website that has one hundred other owners of a 2005 Xterra with the same problem. Nissan told me they could help me out by knocking off $250 from the $600. This is a safety issue that many are experiencing and I want to see if I can get some help.

57 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra which I don't drive much and at around 50,000 miles the transmission went and cost me $1,600 to repair. Now at around 52,000 miles my fuels gauge stop working which caused my truck to turn off in the middle of the highway with my family in it and I see no recall on these issues from Nissan . My brother has a pathfinder with similar problems.

58 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra that I bought pre-owned. I haven't had any real problems with the vehicle, and have been keeping up with scheduled maintenance. I had my fuel sending unit in the vehicle malfunction, which has caused me to fail an emissions inspection and has caused several instances of running out of fuel as a result of a malfunctioning gas level indicator. After doing extensive research on the issue, it's apparently extremely common and Nissan has failed to recall the problem. They recalled it for earlier model years, but although they're still using the same weak part, have yet to recall it for the year applicable to me (2005).

62 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2009

The fuel gauge on my '05 Xterra read e after fill up. After ecm reset event recurred several times. On two occasions engine shut down while leaving my driveway. Mistakenly, I attributed this to bad fuel and/or cold engine. That is until yesterday, during rush hour at 60mph the engine cut off in heavy traffic. Narrowly escaping a major accident, this would have involved multiple cars. I mercifully coasted to the shoulder of the interstate. I turned off the ignition waited a few minutes and tried to restart. I repeated this procedure until on the fourth attempt it restarted and I made it to work. The engine shut off as I was leaving work that day also. After a diagnostic and simple query on the internet, I found my p0463 code to be related the fuel sending unit, a well known and all too common issue. In fact a relevant service bulletin was issued by Nissan. Moreover, a recall was issued for earlier model Xterras. Frequency of this issue and my safety concerns have progressively worsening. I refuse to transport my children in the vehicle. (imagine an engine shut down while turning left with oncoming traffic. ) though Nissan customer care and my dealer indicate no recall has been issued, I am working with both the resolve. To me $26,000 is a substantial purchase, and commensurate product quality and customer support is expected. Absent Nissan standing behind its product, the estimated dealer repair cost is $500+. The potential cost of not repairing the fuel sending unit on any affected Nissan vehicle is immeasurable.

63 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly ran out of fuel. The contact called an authorized dealership and was advised that the fuel sensor was defective and since the vehicle was not a part of any recalls, she would be responsible for any repair expenses. The VIN was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The current mileage was approximately 63,000.

65 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2009

My 2005 Nissan Xterra off road addition was running fine, had no major issues. The fuel gauge indicator suddenly started jumping up and down between full and empty, the service engine soon light also came on. I brought the truck to a local auto parts store and they read a code po463 with their ecu reader. With some research I found this to be a fuel sending unit/fuel level issue. The Nissan dealership stated this is a common problem, some sort of corrosion issue and it would be around $500-700 to fix the issue. I ended up doing repairs (replaced the fuel sending unit) myself to save money, but I think if this is a "common problem" perhaps a recall is in order?.

66 Gasoline Fuel System problem
