My vehicle has 43,419 miles and after fueling the vehicle the fuel gauge dropped to empty and the service engine soon dashboard light illuminated. A check of the diagnostic trouble code (p0463) disclosed a faulty fuel level sensor "a" circuit high. I had the repair done at Nissan. The fee for labor and parts was $367. 88. I see several hundred registered NHTSA complaints regarding this issue as well as hundreds and hundreds of complaints on the internet. I believe there should be a recall as this is clearly a defective part. There is a recall on the 2006 Xterra for the same issue.
Transmission has failed at 135,000. Fuel gauge does not work. Check engine light stays illuminated, therefore I am unaware of any additional issues, and cannot pass emissions in atlanta, GA, therefore I cannot renew my tag.
Fuel gauge issue p0463 fuel level sensor is erratic, inaccurate, or inoperative. Nissan refused to accept this recall. Nhtsa action number 10032627 service bulletin number 280480.
Just fill up gas and fuel gauge indicates almost empty. Cannot tell if I still have enough fuel. Dangerous situation if I'm driving and suddenly run out of gas.
While I am driving my vehicle the fuel gauge stopped showing the fuel limit properly and service engine soon light came on since then. I did not find any solution, Nissan has the faulty device and it should fix it. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vehicle fuel gauge abruptly dropped from approximately 1/2 full to completely empty with low fuel light illumination while traveling at approximately 55 mph in heavy traffic. Fuel gauge remained at empty with light on after refueling and maintained this status for the remainder of travel (approx. 1 hour, 50 miles). Vehicle was then parked for 1 hour and upon restart, gauge showed 6/8 level. Vehicle was again refueled to ensure adequate fuel and gauge level did not change. After approximately 10 miles gauge again abruptly dropped to empty and remained there.
Vehicle fuel gauge is reporting wrong information, shows empty when full and a half tank when empty. Service engine soon light stays on. Very dangerous barely made it to gas station.
Just purchased 2 wks ago a 2005 Nissan Xterra. At first the fuel gauge was slow to show the fuel level but it showed if it was half full or close to empty. Now just two days ago our daughter called us saying she just filled the vehicle with gas and the fuel gauge is showing it is completely empty - fuel light is on. I have been all over the internet looking at how to fix the problem and how common of a problem it is-wow, its a seriously common problem. This is a serious hazard for my young teenage daughter! if she runs out of gas it could cause an accident. There appearts to be no recall on this and from what I am seeing, it costs a lot of money to fix this problem-a problem that Nissan should fix!.
Tl - the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel gauge and the window motors malfunctioned. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. 2005 Nissan Xterra 4 wd--service engine soon light comes on--checking the diagnostics code indicate fuel sensor is the issue; a few days later, fuel gauge becomes erratic and eventually quits working; a call to the Nissan consumer affairs indicate the car is part of a recall for this problem--except the recall is void after 72,000. My mileage exceeds the 72,000 limit.
My Nissan Xterra has a fault fuel gauge sending unit, the senor went out but I am past the 72k extended warranty. I received a letter in the mail today indicating that if this particular item is being extended to customers of the Nissan Xterra but up to 72k miles, I currently have 75k on my call. Once I called Nissan and asked if this could be extended as a courtesy because I just received the letter today I was not given a clear answer but instead told to go to a dealer have them run the dx and then have the dealer contact Nissan? im confused why can't they just extend it for me since I have already had the diagnostics completed by someone other than Nissan. Please help me.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated when filling the vehicle with gasoline, the fuel level gauge would read that the fuel tank was empty and the check engine light would illuminate. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact believed the failure to be a common failure in her make and model vehicle. The failure and current mileages were approximately 50,000.
My Nissan Xterra has a problem with the fuel gauge sensor. The sensor reading comes and goes and I have even ran out of gas once. There was a recall out on this for immediate repairs and one that gave an extended mileage warranty to 72,000 miles. I called Nissan in may 2010, and was told that they were still dealing with getting the correct part and to call back in a few months. I was around 66,000 miles at that time. I had a friend at work who had the same problem and he had it into the dealer 4 times and it wasn't until around September when it got fixed with the right part. So knowing that, that is when I called in since I knew they had the correct part. I took it in for the fuel gauge and front crash sensor recalls, and they only fixed the one. Nissan told me that the fuel gauge recall for my vehicle was only good til 72,000 miles, and I was over that. I don't believe this is fair since I was trying to get it fixed and I was under that mileage in may, but while waiting on Nissan to get it right, from may to September, I obviously put on more miles and it put me over. Now they say they wont cover it. This is not my fault, and other Xterras with this issue are getting this covered, I feel that I am entitled to the same. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated when starting the vehicle, the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. In addition, the fuel level indicator would read inaccurate fuel levels. The contact proceeded to drive the vehicle and noticed that the fuel level indicator would fluctuate between gas level readings. The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel gauge sensor was erratic and the light remained illuminated. A local mechanic informed him that the fuel gauge error code was p0463. The Nissan dealer quoted him an $85 fee to perform a diagnostic test. The Nissan manufacturer was called and stated that since he did not take his vehicle to a Nissan dealer they would not assist him with the repair. There are no related recalls or warranties for his vehicle. The failure mileage was 109,000.
Fuel gauge not accurate causing service engine light to go on. I can run out of fuel at anytime causing a dangerous situation on the freeway or roads.
Fuel gauge recall - Nissan I own a 2005 Nissan Xterra, that is not covered under the recent recall for Nissan vehicles with the fuel gauge problem. My problem was on 04/06/2009, and cost me $443. 65+tax to have fixed. I have contacted Nissan, and all I got was "a call back in 3 weeks" response. The current recall covers Nissan "xterras" produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008. The problem existed prior to that, my 2005 Xterra. I believe the recall should be extended to cover 2005 models, and that Nissan should give me my money back. The problem was not my fault. . . . . . . .
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. While traveling at approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge did not accurately display the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. The contact stated this failure is similar to the failure in recall 10v074000 (component: fuel system, other: storage: fuel gauge system). The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the fuel gauge sending unit was replaced. The current mileage was approximately 59,000. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. After refueling the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed the incorrect reading. The contact stated that she did not know how much fuel was in the vehicle because the fuel gauge indicator would constantly move. The failure became worse over time and the vehicle was eventually taken to an authorized dealer who stated that her vehicle was not included in any fuel system recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 460,000. The VIN was unavailable.
