1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Car cuts off when driving and while car is idled. Fuels stops repeatedly when refueling.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2018

The vehicle in question started to lose power when driving this past Saturday. So, basically my car does start then after driving it a few minutes or more will stiffen and cut off. Thank you.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2015

Transmission has been slipping . I heard of a recall on this problem and I called Nissan and was told I missed extended warranty buy 8 days ,they admitted that they did have problems with this vehicles transmission. But refuse to do anything about it, also very hard to put gas in,.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Nissan knows about this issue in fact it involves multiple years and models. The radiator cracks and leaks into the transmission ruining both. They entered into a settlement agreement but set the bar so high that it is impossible to meet. This car technically has low mileage for a 10 year old vehicle yet misses the top parameter by 16,000 miles. This is unacceptable .

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2015

My Nissan has the defect that brought a lawsuit against Nissan motor for a failure in the oil cooler that caused my transmission and radiator to be completely rebuilt/replaced because coolant had leaked into my transmission. I ended up with a bill for $3941. 46, and now, I can't even file a reimbursement form or get a hold of any one at Nissan to help because all 3 numbers listed in letters and paperwork are no longer in service.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

Purchased my '05 Nissan Xterra in the spring of 2012 with about 160,000 miles. For the past 2 months I had minor issues like shuddering/vibrations randomly when I accelerated and the heat not working when I was at a complete stop. It was not until the other day when I was at a complete stop and my car would not accelerate properely that I knew I had a problem with the transmission. I took my Xterra to 3 different mechanics and each one explained to me that I would need a completely new transmission and from there they would see if I in fact needed to change the radiator (which they were positive was the original issue due to similar issues with other Nissan SUV owners). The repairs will cost me well over $4,000 and unfortunately as a college student, there is no way I can afford to repair the transmission and radiator. What was appalling to me was when I researched the issue online. There are hundreds upon hundreds of complaints online on various websites about this issue and Nissan has yet to issue a recall. The extended warranty excluded many people and put many more at an unfair disadvantage. I personally bought my Nissan, because of their reputation, but the fact that they will not come to the aid of their consumers speaks volumes of this company.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2014

Engine light came on . Took it to auto zone which yield a code referring to the fuel sensing unit.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

There is a manufacturer's defect with the radiator in which it cracks and leaks fluid into the transmission, which then destroys the transmission. When we called Nissan to ask if they were going to stand by their product, they told us there was nothing they could do for us.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

Check engine light comes on and the trouble shooting number is p0463. Which I understand Nissan automobiles have a lot of trouble with this situation. I would like to informed when they are having a recall to repair this problem.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

I was informed by the dealership service department that radiator fluid had contaminated transmission fluid in my 2005 Nissan Xterra. This defect in the radiator was known to occur in high mileage vehicles such as mine and was known to Nissan as they extended a service warranty to 100,000 miles. Unfortunately my vehicle's mileage is over the extended warranty and I am now responsible for the cost of the repairs. This is a huge safety issue as the transmission plays a vital role in the ability for the vehicle to accelerate into and across traffic on busy highways and roads. The inability to do so properly with a defective transmission may lead to accidents. Not to mention that the contaminated radiator coolant may not accomplish the intended goal of cooling engine components leading to over heating and engine dysfunction. I feel strongly that Nissan new about the defect and did not take appropriate action to notify consumers to have the radiators replaced prior to having complications from the defective parts.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

Check engine light came up in my 2005 Nissan Xterra at 85,000 miles. Took it to the repair shop where I make oil changes, I was told transmission broke and radiator fluid contamination. Took it to the dealer, they confirm that the transmission failure, but they flat out refused the contamination, instead offer to replace both transmission and radiator for $5,500 to avoid future problems. I was not convinced. Immediately, another guy in the dealership offers to trade in for a new car. I took the car out and went to another transmission shop. Sure enough, they noticed radiation fluid contaminating the tranmission fluid. Cost was around $3,750. Because, the deadline was early Jun'2013 and now is early July, they are telling me I cannot submit the claim. I hope the court does not approve the final settlement. Nissan should recall and pay for the repairs of defective transmission/ radiator.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2013

Upon exiting a highway, where traffic was congested and slow moving, my 2005 Nissan Xterra suddenly refused to accelerate. Suddenly, smoke appeared to be emanating from the undercarrige of my SUV. Initially, it appeared that my vehicle had caught on fire. Two passing fireman assisted me and determined that I had a transmission issue because of the fluid that was leaked onto the street. Since the Xterra was not driveable, it was towed to a transmission repair center. It was determined that the transmission failure was caused by a malfunctioning radiator. Apparently, radiator fluid contaminated the transmission fluid and severely damaged the transmission.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2013

The Xterra fuel sending unit has gone bad/malfunctioned. Upon filling up vehicle the gas gauge continued to show Xterra was empty and diagnostic code p0463 was able to be read. I have heard numerous accounts of this issue with Xterras.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

I noticed the service engine soon light come on 3/13/2013. Today, 3/15 I took it to the Nissan dealership that I get my vehicle serviced at and they told me that the fuel sending unit is malfunctioning and the price to fix it. They also mentioned that they have seen this problem a few times now with other Xterra models. I mentioned to them that I cannot afford the repair at this time and they suggested I keep it full and it shouldn't be a problem. I got home and looked up the problem with my vehicle and it seems that a lot of other people are having the same problem, and not only with Xterras but with pathfinders and frontiers as well, as they are all based on the same drivetrain. Nissan is not covering this problem even though it seems to be a common issue with its vehicles.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Gas gauge wont read, displays empty when full. Goes back and forth. 2006 and 2008 recalled for same problem and part # but Nissan wont pay to have 2005 fixed or do a recall. We but from roanoke Nissan dealer used at 57351 miles. They didnt offer warranty and we didnt get extended warranty.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Recently the vehicle has been turning off while in use (driving down the road) and we have to throw it in neutral, crank back up, then put it back in gear. This is not safe. Took it in to get it diagnosed and the scan came back reading the catalytic converters could be going out (2 on each side, pretty sure only one side is affected). Then were told about an ecm relay recall. Mechanics have told us that this can cause the cats to fail. Nissan said to take it to a dealership and see what they say. What?! of course the Nissan dealership is going to replace only the ecm component of the recall and say it won't affect the cats, while other mechanics at non dealer affiliated shops have more than a few times said it can be a direct effect of the ecm. So we have a "case" number with Nissan and Nissan will "investigate" and let us know if they are willing to pay any towards the repair, or if a recall is issued in the near future we'll get reimbursed for the repair. . . How about you just make a vehicle without faulty parts and if a faulty part contributes to another part going out, you repair the parts affected.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2012

I was driving along and check engine light came on. Checked internet and found out that many people had this happen around 50,000 miles. This is supposed to be guaranteed for 50,000 miles and in practice most last a lot longer, but not in the case of the Xterra. Nissan has noticed the large number of incidents but although they have completely redesigned the system they refuse to recall it. Many of the posts here take about the engine conking out at speed which is an unsafe condition. The dealer admitted today that they have seen 4 this month, its becoming a real problem and should be recalled. Dealer quoted me $70. 00 for the quote, $590. 00 for the canister, and $90. 00 for labor. I can't believe that Nissan would know about the bad design, engineer a fix for it, and withhold the fix from the customer, unless they are willing to cough up almost $800. 00 to fix their mistake. This scares me as SUV accidents are usually pretty bad with far more rollovers than regular cars. Please take the appropriate action before someone is seriously hurt.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2011

Several issues with my 2005 Nissan x-terra that make it very dangerous to drive. We don't know what to do anymore . . . . . The issue with the trans, that we replaced because all the violent shaking episodes. . . Now hopefully done with. Now due to a nocking and sensor light alert, an issue with 4x4, fuel sensor was diagnosed day b/f yesterday. We were told this is extremely dangerous. . . . . Cost ? over $3,000 added to the $9,000 trans repairs. Please tell me what to do!.

19 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2011

On or about may 14th 2011 I observe fluid leaking from my Nissan 2005 Xterra. I sought professional advice. It was mandatory that I replace the radiator, thermostat and flush the engine and transmission. It became very apparent that this was a manufacture defect. I then contact five towns Nissan, who indicated that my vehicle was out of warranty (80,000). I did receive an undated “warrant notification from Nissan north America inc which did compromise any extended warranty especially if it is a manufacturer defect. Nissan north America inc did acknowledge that there was a manufacturer defect on the radiator assembly that will cause leakage of the engine coolant (antifreeze) to mix with the transmission causing the transmission to be rebuilt. This will cost over $6,000. 00 to repair. What became obviously suspicious is that Nissan sent the “warrant notification after the fact knowing that all and or most of the affected vehicles were out of warranty. It became apparent that Nissan was fully aware of the defects, hence, being liable for their negligence. Amidst all the complaints Nissan refuse to recall and or fix the defects. Secondly, I do have problems with the emission system of the said Nissan 2005 Xterra, of which, I did reported to Nissan. In June 2009 it was determine upon paid inspection by Nissan service center, that both #1 and #2 catalytic convertor, fuel level sensor and gas gauge were all defective. I had the gauge replace, but both #1 and #2 catalytic convertor, fuel level sensor will cost over $4,000. 00 to repair. It now has a manufacturer defect of the timing chain that can be disastrous, and will cost $2,500. 00. I am most respectfully asking your office to launch an immediate investigation about the manufacturer defects that I have listed, and would like Nissan to fully compensate me for the repairs. I would like you to take into consideration of all the consumers who are frustrated by this dilemma, and have no possible alternative.

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2011

My fuel sending unit went out while driving and I ran out of gas on the highway and almost crashed and killed myself. This issue needs to be address and fixed by Nissan before something really serious happens!.

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

2005 Nissan Xterra fuel sending unit has gone bad. Vehicle has ~44,000. Vehicle instrument panel shows no gas in vehicle after filled with gas.

22 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

2005 Nissan Xterra at 58k miles has the gas gauge not working and the service engine soon light on. From what I see on line this is a common theme on Xterras and Nissan only covers recalls on certain 2006 models knowing it exits on the 2005 models.

23 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2010

After checking a service engine soon warning on my 2005 Nissan Xterra, I found that the fuel sending unit was the problem as indicated by the p0463 code came up after inspection. Clearly this has been a problem on past models and continues to be a defect in current models, as many fellow Nissan owners have expressed there concern over a part which may be essential to the functioning of the vehicle.

24 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2010

P0463 obdii code appeared at about 56k miles. My understanding is that this was an issue that was recalled on 1st gen Xterras, and is now a prominent problem with 2nd gen Xterras. However, Nissan refuses to recall.

25 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2010

Check engine soon light came on and dealer said was fuel sensor failure. Cost $600 b/c I'm past warranty though only 40k on 2005 Xterra. There is a recall b/c same problem on other year models of Xterra. . Many complaints same problem on same 2005 Xterra on internet. One site documented 116 -same complaint same 2005 Xterra. Safety issue b/c do not know how much fuel is in truck at any time. Called Nissan customer service and was told to make sure truck "full of gas". Said they've had many complaints but at this point no recall on 2005 Xterra. No solution. Engine can quit if out of gas--crash inevitable, stranded in remote location or unsafe environment with little or no warning. Error code: po463.

26 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

P0463 code showed up on my 2005 Nissan Xterra. 80,000 miles. Have cleared the code twice, and cel keeps popping up with code p0463.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Couple weeks ago my check engine light came on while I backing off my driveway. Then my battery died a week after so I thought the reason why my check engine light came on is because of my battery is running out of juice. So, I replace my battery but then the following day my check engine light came on again. That's when I went to my local auto shop and get my x get check. They told that is the error code p0463.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

2005 Nissan Xterra fuel sending unite/sensor corrosion causing malfunction of gas gauge and turning on service engine soon light. Possible recall was done on 2000-2004 models why not on 2005. Malfunction starts at 39k-47k causing distraction and panic to the driver.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2009

Please help! my fuel sensor is failing. My service engine light is always on now and the repair for this is expensive. I received an extended warranty in the mail for 72,000 miles for this exact problem. I called Nissan directly because my mileage was past this and this is an extremely common failure in Xterras and they said they could do nothing for me. There is a Nissan service bulletin ntb07-069b in existence, but not a recall. Since they wouldn't help me, my light was on long before I hit 72,000 miles, and this is such a common problem in these vehicles, I feel strongly that Nissan should issue a recall. I have high mileage on my car because my family lives 6 hours away and I drive to see them frequently. Is there any thing you can do to help me? please?.

30 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2009

Fuel sending unit breaks at 47k miles, Nissan dealer is used to the problem and says it is $550. 00 to replace. Nissan should recall units and fix them when they are faulty.

31 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2009

2005 Nissan exterra. Fuel sensor light needs to be replaced and will cost 350. 00 to replace! will not pass inspection without repair.

32 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

Fuel level sensor has failed, and returns erroneous results misrepresenting the level of gasoline/fuel available. While not a highly critical issue to the vehicle itself, this is still a threat to vehicle occupants as there is a danger of running out of gas and being stranded in a remote location and/or in an unsafe environment with little or no warning.

33 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2009

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra. After filling up with gas my gas gauge read empty and after a few miles the service engine light came on and stays on. This is a fault with the fuel sending unit that is very common amoung owners of Xterras, frontiers and pathfinders. Cost to repair is about $600. 00. This same issue was classed as a recall for the 2002 models however nmo recall has been issued for the same problem in the newer models. This can be very dangerous as the car could just stop running at any time. With the amount of owners having the same complaint and the fact that this was a recall on earlier models, we think that Nissan should issue another recall on our vehicles and fix the problem.

34 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2008

Check engine light comes on, gas gauge does not work. Vehicle only has 61,000 miles and just went over the extended warranty. Looking it up on the internet, sounds like a major defect as other numerous complaints.

35 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Service engine light and fuel sensor sending unit failure.
